PWT0rch [9th Jan 99] Konnan: His future push is in doubt. Is he with Kevin Nash & the nWo or not? If not, he could slide down the card several slots. He's a great role player, but could easily be lost in the shuffle unless he has someone in high places looking out for him. PWT0rch [23rd Jan 99] The political alliances behind the scenes have changed in recent months. Kevin Nash & Konnan had been inseparable for more than a year. Their on-air chemistry as part of the Wolfpac was based on their friendship behind the scenes. Since Nash has aligned with Hogan, Konnan & Nash have not been getting along. Lex Luger & Elizabeth have sided with Nash, leaving Konnan without "friends in high places." That said, Hogan is trying to play "good cop" by telling Konnan that he will make sure he continues to get a push. Hogan says since he gets a percentage of PPV profits, he wants WCW to do well & will push wrestlers who are popular with fans regardless of political allegiances. If that were truly the case, Bret Hart would be getting a push. Hogan's policy over the years has been to hold back anyone who is a threat to him. Apparently Bret is a threat, but Konnan isn't. The heat between Nash & Konnan came through during their on-air comments during Nitro this week. PWT0rch [6th Feb 99] The political tension between Kevin Nash & Konnan has subsided somewhat in recent weeks. Konnan has expressed that he is happy with the way his character has developed in recent weeks & that he likes that his character isn't part of a group, such as the Wolfpac, so he is able to prove himself without seeming to be a sidekick & riding someone else's popularity. Nash & Konnan, who had been close allies last year, had a falling out at the end of 1998. Nash has formed a "new clique" of sorts behind the scenes with Scott Steiner, Buff Bagwell, Lex Luger, & Scott Hall. PWT0rch [13th Feb 99] Lex Luger has a rep for being the instigator in driving a wedge between Kevin Nash & Konnan. There was heat between Luger & Konnan stemming from their PPV match two weeks ago. Konnan called for the match to end early. Konnan told Luger he had a sore back, but Luger began working over Konnan's back anyway, including ramming him back first into the ring apron. Luger gave Konnan a hard time after the match for getting winded & being out of shape. Konnan was upset with Luger for causing damage to a sore part of his body when he asked him not to. Luger argued that he had to set up his torture rack finisher somehow. PWT0rch [20th Feb 99] Lex Luger tore a bicep tendon Jan. 30 in Los Angeles, California. while wrestling Konnan. The injury requires surgery & he will miss up to three months. The heat between Konnan & Luger heated up as a result of the injury, with Luger blaming Konnan. Konnan just a few weeks earlier blamed Luger for working stiff on his back after he cautioned Luger that his back was sore. PWT0rch [10th April 99] Konnan appeared on the new WCW Live! internet radio show last week. He told a story about inviting Kevin Nash to visit a gang he knew called the "The Latin Kings" while the two were in San Diego. He said Nash didn't want to go because he thought he might get shot. He also said regarding Nash: "He's not who he told me he was. Hogan has him brainwashed." "I don't know what Nash is doing. He's the most charming guy. He could sell venom to a cobra." At the peak of their falling out months ago, Nash actually threw Konnan up against the locker room wall in reaction to things he heard second-hand Konnan was saying. PWT0rch [26th June 99] Konnan spoke about the current state of WCW in a USA Today’s article “You have alot of wrestlers who wield a lot of power,” Konnan said. “If you don’t conform or be part of their clique, if you’re not drinking or training with them, you get cut out. That’s just bad business.” He said he thinks WCW is “getting stale” & that “fresh faces are being held back.” He said there was a time Bischoff “was tolerable.” He said Bischoff changed because “his condescending approach was not getting results. Now he’s trying to rectify it.” PWT0rch [3rd July 99] Konnan’s absence from Nitro may be a direct result of his comments in USA Today critical of WCW & Bischoff. Bischoff & Nash confronted Konnan as soon as he arrived at Nitro last week. There was an open yelling match between Nash & Konnan. Bischoff was apparently worried about the article since Time Warner executives had been insulated from the criticism of his management style; they get most of their information regarding WCW straight from him. Konnan’s quotes could prompt upper management to look into the problems in WCW. Bischoff feels Konnan is ungrateful because they have been pushing him & he brought in Master P as a way to elevate him. Nash was upset by Konnan’s comment, “If you’re not drinking or training with them, you get cut out.”
