Witnesses said that Houthi fighters and their army allies advanced in a column of tanks on Wednesday into a central district of the southern city of Aden, the main foothold of loyalists of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. The Houthis' military push happened despite a week of Saudi-led air strikes as well as bombardment from naval vessels off the coast of Aden aimed at reversing relentless Houthi gains on the battlefield. Witnesses and militia sources said that earlier on Wednesday, dozens of fighters were killed in clashes between Houthi fighters and their army allies on one side, and militiamen and tribesmen opposing them around Aden and elsewhere in south Yemen. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/16mkIfGYTVM/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
An uneasy handshake Monday between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe marked the first meeting between the two men since either took power, and an awkward first gesture toward easing two years of high tensions. As the two men approached each other, stern-faced, to shake hands in front of cameras, Abe briefly tried to say something to Xi, who gave no response and turned away, appearing distinctly uncomfortable, to fix his gaze toward the cameras for the rest of the handshake. The spat between China and Japan over uninhabited East China Sea islands and other contentious issues has raised concerns of a military confrontation between Asia's two largest economies, which could draw the U.S. into the fray alongside ally Japan. Although core divisions won't be resolved soon, Abe told reporters afterward that the countries made a "first step" toward reconciliation. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/3d281c11a96b4ad082fe88aa0db04305/Article_2014-11-10-AS--APEC/id-2ec77bf7ffcb4be8adad807782636c05 http://www.wochit.com
Dressed in reflective yellow construction gear while working under the cover of darkness early Monday, a small group of artists installed a tribute to NSA-leaker Edward Snowden in a Brooklyn park. The Snowden bust stands atop a column at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument in Fort Greene Park, a site built to honor more than 11,000 American prisoners of war who died aboard British ships during the American Revolutionary War. The artists said they hope the city will considering leaving the sculpture where it is — they said it was designed specifically for its current location, so it "feels organic" and doesn't ruin the "vibe and the flow" — though they recognize that's probably not going to happen. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/-65LO75PHV4/ http://www.wochit.com
A CBS spokesperson on Saturday said CBS Sports basketball analyst Greg Anthony has been suspended indefinitely by the network after being arrested in Washington, D.C., on a charge of soliciting prostitution. The spokesperson added in an email that Greg Anthony will not be working again for CBS this season. Anthony, 47, was arrested Friday evening after making an agreement for sexual favors, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. https://news.yahoo.com/cbs-sports-analyst-greg-anthony-suspended-soliciting-prostitution-163836663--finance.html http://www.wochit.com
More than 5.8 million citizens are eligible to vote in Tuesday's closely-fought election in Isreal, as voters choose candidates for Israel's 20th parliament since 1949. Current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting for his political survival. High turnout was reported on Tuesday, with voters waiting in lines of up to one and a half hours to cast their ballots. Under Israel's proportional electoral system, no party has ever won the 61 seats needed for an outright majority in the 120-member parliament — and it typically takes weeks of negotiations for a governing coalition to be formed. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/447c4467/sc/7/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Cnews0Cworld0Cisrael0Eelection0Ekey0Ecandidates0Ehow0Eit0Eworks0En324796/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
Dustin Diamond has pleaded not guilty to charges resulting from a bar fight Christmas evening in Wisconsin. According to an NBC News local affiliate, Diamond and his fiancée, Amanda Schutz , appeared in Ozaukee County Circuit Court Thursday morning. The "Saved by the Bell" actor is accused of of stabbing a man at The Grand Avenue Saloon after his fiancée became involved in an altercation. The man who was allegedly stabbed said he had shoved Diamond forcefully but didn't realize he had been cut until later. Diamond, 38, entered the not guilty pleas to second-degree reckless endangering safety, a felony, and two misdemeanors. Schutz entered the same plea to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. At a previous hearing, Diamond's defense attorney, Thomas Alberti, stated that none of the witnesses at the Port Washington bar reported seeing the actor stab the man, but the Ozaukee judge ruled that there was still enough evidence for Diamond's case to go to trial. http://www.eonline.com/news/617274/dustin-diamond-pleads-not-guilty-in-stabbing-case?cmpid=rss-000000-rssfeed-365-topstories&utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=rss_topstories http://www.wochit.com
President Obama on Friday vowed to veto any bill Congress sends him that could tighten economic sanctions on Iran, saying it would undermine negotiations seeking to limit the country's ability to build a nuclear weapon. My main message to Congress at this point is, just hold your fire, Obama said in a joint White House news conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron. The so-called P5+1 coalition has set a March 1 deadline to reach a general agreement with Iran, and a July 1 deadline to hammer out the details. http://feeds.nbcnews.com/c/35002/f/663303/s/42680c40/sc/7/l/0L0Snbcnews0N0Cnews0Cus0Enews0Cobama0Evows0Eblock0Econgress0Eiran0Esanctions0Enuke0Etalks0Econtinue0En287781/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

On Super Bowl Sunday, Americans eat huge amounts of food. This year's game features the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots with a halftime show courtesy of Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz. According to the American Institute of Food Distribution, Super Bowl Sunday is the second highest event in America for most food consumption — following Thanksgiving. Across the country, people will consume more than one billion chicken wings, 120 million pounds of avocados and 2.5 million pounds of nuts. Not to mention more than 325 Million gallons of beer to wash it all down with. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/Ke1l0gAPiFc/ http://www.wochit.com
The U.N. Security Council rejected a Palestinian resolution demanding an end to Israeli occupation within three years late Tuesday, a blow to efforts to get the U.N.'s most powerful body to take action to recognize an independent state of Palestine. But it didn't have to because the resolution failed to get the minimum nine "yes" votes required for adoption by the 15-member council. The resolution received eight "yes" votes, two "no" votes — one from the United States and the other from Australia — and five abstentions. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/3d281c11a96b4ad082fe88aa0db04305/Article_2014-12-30-UN-United-Nations-Palestinians-Israel/id-dc8a16fb52954ec7b3f736a495beb0f1 http://www.wochit.com
Iran's foreign minister said on Wednesday serious dialogue with the West would be easier if it respected Muslim sensitivities, ruffled by the latest Charlie Hebdo cartoons, as he began nuclear talks with the chief U.S. diplomat. Speaking to reporters before seeing U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Mohammad Jawad Zarif said the meeting would help gauge whether both sides were ready to advance toward a deal to curb Iran's nuclear work in exchange for sanctions relief. "I think it's important. I think it will show the readiness of the two parties to move forward and to speed up the process," Zarif told reporters as he waited for Kerry, who arrived four minutes late for their meeting at a Geneva hotel. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/X6NeMC2dph0/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
Yemeni and Western sources said, Saudi Arabia has suspended most of its financial aid to Yemen, in a clear indication of its dissatisfaction with the growing political power of Shi'ite Houthi fighters friendly with Riyadh's regional rival, Iran. Yemen, which is battling an al Qaeda insurgency, a southern secessionist movement, endemic corruption and poor governance, has often relied on its richer northern neighbor to help finance everything from government salaries to welfare payments. But soon after Houthi fighters took over the capital Sanaa in September, Sunni Saudi Arabia promptly suspended much of that aid, concerned the rebels will use their military muscle to dominate domestic politics and project Iran's influence. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/N4fJITt09Us/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
Iranian actress Leila Hatami, co-star of Asghar Farhadi 's 2011 Oscar winner 'A Separation', has become the target of outrage in her home country, after photos surfaced of her greeting Cannes Film Festival head Gilles Jacob with a kiss on the cheek, as is the French custom. Iran's deputy culture minister, Hossein Noushabadi, accused her of maligning Iranians -- especially Iranian women -- with her actions and presence at the festival. Noushabadi was quoted as saying on the website of state broadcaster IRIB, "Those who attend international events should take heed of the credibility and chastity of Iranians, so that a bad image of Iranian women will not be demonstrated to the world." http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/thr/film/~3/BmmnXgP_VgE/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
A witness said, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif began talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and European Union envoy Catherine Ashton in Oman on Sunday to try to advance efforts to end a standoff over Tehran's nuclear program. The discussions, aimed at curbing Iran’s sensitive uranium enrichment work in return for a gradual lifting of sanctions, are taking place just two weeks before a self-imposed Nov. 24 deadline for reaching a comprehensive deal. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/3uQXPkPz818/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
The United States and Iran are expressing hope that nuclear talks can be accelerated in order to meet a March target for a framework agreement, as the countries' top diplomats met Wednesday ahead of a resumption of full negotiations. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif met for five hours a day before negotiators from Iran, the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany are to resume talks here. Ahead of the meeting, Zarif said his talks with Kerry would show that both sides understand the importance of picking up the pace. Zarif was coy when asked if he thought the deadline could be met and what particular issues were most vexing. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/3d281c11a96b4ad082fe88aa0db04305/Article_2015-01-14-EU--United%20States-Iran/id-0716090b6e544d2784893d8f8864eced http://www.wochit.com
Witnesses said at least 10 people were killed in fighting between Houthi tribesmen and militants linked to al Qaeda in central Yemen on Thursday, part of a growing struggle over territory and influence between the two enemy sides. The Shi'ite Muslim Houthis established themselves as Yemen's new power brokers last month, capturing Sanaa on September 21st to little resistance from residents or from the government. Houthi fighters have been making advances outside of Sanaa in recent days, taking over cities and towns with the apparent agreement of the authorities there, but clashing with some al Qaeda linked militants in central Yemen. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/e02Hxqockhk/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Bobby Jindal says he was “disappointed” at the move to change Indiana’s controversial religious-freedom law amid a backlash over the potential for discrimination against gays and lesbians. Jindal, who is still deciding whether to jump into the race for the Republican presidential nomination, said he objects to using government “to force people to contradict their own sincerely held beliefs.” Jindal said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press, “This is about business owners that don’t want to have to choose between their Christian faith, their sincerely held religious beliefs and being able to operate their businesses.״ http://www.politico.com/story/2015/04/bobby-jindal-indiana-religious-freedom-law-116672.html http://www.wochit.com
Images of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appearing frail and in bed have raised questions about the seriousness of his condition, and who might eventually succeed him. In early September, Khamenei made a surprise announcement that he was having surgery and asked people to pray for his health. The head of the surgical team said Khamenei had an operation on his prostate which lasted less than half an hour and only local anesthetic had been used. He was completely awake and speaking during the procedure, the surgeon said. But if Khamenei's health deteriorates, the traditional clergy and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Iran's top military force and an economic powerhouse - will need to settle on a successor quickly if the country is to avoid a period of political instability, experts say. "The illness of leaders in undemocratic countries is seen as a national security issue," said Mehdi Khalaji, a former senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy who is now the CEO of the Idea Center for Arts and Culture. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/sSxe-qfRpGQ/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com
The Big Bang Theory paid tribute to the late Carol Ann Susi during its Thursday, Nov. 13 episode. Susi, who voiced the unseen Mrs. Debbie Wolowitz since the show's start in 2007, passed away at age 62 after a battle with cancer. At the end of The Big Bang Theory's recent episode, a card featuring Susi' headshot aired with this message: "In loving memory of Carol Ann Susi. 'Mrs. Wolowtiz.' Every time you spoke, we laughed. You're in our hearts forever." Big Bang Theory executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Bill Prady said in a joint statement, "Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing." http://feeds.eonline.com/~r/eonline/tvnews/~3/slzThK3P8ek/the-big-bang-theory-s-touching-tribute-to-carol-ann-susi http://www.wochit.com

A crew is at work in Boston unearthing a time capsule believed buried by patriots Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. CNN affiliate WBZ reports, the 18th-century capsule was left in a cornerstone of the Massachusetts State House. The capsule is believed to date from 1795, when construction started on the building. The cornerstone has been removed because of repair work to the historic building, and a worker from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston was chipping away at it Thursday to get at the capsule. Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin, who also heads the state's historical commission said, the capsule contains rare coins, a Paul Revere plate, papers and other artifacts dating back to the 1600s. He said, he capsule was last dug up during emergency repairs to the State House in 1855 and put back in place when the cornerstone was reset. http://rss.cnn.com/~r/rss/edition_us/~3/eYRVSRaHpGg/index.html http://www.wochit.com
Don't expect many changes for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt now that it's airing on Netflix. Little more than a month after news broke that their new show would get a second season and run on the streamer, not NBC as originally planned, 30 Rock collaborators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock trotted out the cast for television critics and discussed how the move happened and why a departure from broadcast means little to the content of the comedy. "I think season two is going to be mostly shower sex," joked Fey, adding that the tone of the series was already set with the first 13 episodes written and filmed with the intent of airing on NBC. http://news.yahoo.com/tina-fey-netflix-move-means-unbreakable-kimmy-schmidt-192839513.html http://www.wochit.com

Sports analysts are frequently former athletes who participated in the sport being analyzed. A sports analyst is different from a sports commentator in that sports commentators provide a running commentary regarding a sporting event while the event is taking place, whereas sports analysts usually provide commentary about sporting events which have yet to take place or which have already concluded. The job of the color commentator is a hybrid of the two styles, providing expert analysis of a sporting event while the sporting event is taking place.

She then joined SNL as a writer, later becoming head writer and a performer, known for her position as co-anchor in the Weekend Update segment. In 2004 she adapted the screenplay Mean Girls in which she also co-starred. After leaving SNL in 2006, she created the television series 30 Rock, a situation comedy loosely based on her experiences at SNL. In the series, Fey portrays the head writer of a fictional sketch comedy series. In 2008, she starred in the comedy film Baby Mama, alongside former SNL co-star Amy Poehler. Fey next appeared in the 2010 comedy films Date Night and Megamind.
She has received seven Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, four Writers Guild of America Awards and has been nominated for a Grammy Award for her autobiographical book Bossypants, which topped the The New York Times Best Seller list for five weeks. She was singled out as the performer who had the greatest impact on culture and entertainment in 2008 by the Associated Press, which gave her its AP Entertainer of the Year award for her satirical portrayal of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in a guest appearance on SNL. In 2010, Fey was the recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the youngest-ever winner of the award.
