Disheartened when his story about Canadian snipers possibly mutilating corpses in Afghanistan is buried, Luke (Nick Stahl) quits his job but is even more determined to return to Afghanistan to get the real story. With his offbeat buddy, Tom (Nicolas Wright), tagging along, Luke returns to Afghanistan and intends to gather enough evidence to get his old story into print. But he soon finds that the country is an even more dangerous place than when he left. To make matters worse, his old friend and fixer, Mateen (Stephen Lobo) has been hired away by Luke's journalistic nemesis, Imran Sahar (Vik Sahay). Soon the trip for Luke and Tom in Afghanistan turns into a surreal and perilous adventure, a journey into an alternate reality, filtered through a haze of gun smoke.

Before leaving on his second tour in Afghanistan, Marine Captain Sam Cahill, a leader, an athlete, a good husband and father, welcomes his screw-up brother Tommy home from prison. He'd robbed a bank. In country, Sam's helicopter is shot down and all are presumed dead. Back home, while Sam wastes away as a prisoner in a remote encampment, Tommy tries to take care of the widow and her two children. While imprisoned, Sam experiences horrors unbearable, so when he's rescued and returns home, he's silent, detached, without affect, and he's convinced his wife and brother have slept together. Demons of war possess him; what will silence them?

However, some positive signs of change have emerged. The Pakistani army has ramped up efforts to combat the Taliban and other militants. Relations with Afghanistan have improved since Ashraf Ghani was elected president, promising greater security cooperation along the border. And US Secretary of State John Kerry is working to help India and Pakistan mend relations. Will these efforts be enough to ensure future stability? Pakistan expert Christine Fair will discuss Pakistan’s security concerns and the outlook for this complex region. As Taliban aggression intensifies, how much has actually changed in Afghanistan? At the height of the Taliban's rule in Afghanistan in 1999, a burqa-clad woman was executed in Kabul's main football stadium. Footage of the killing shocked the world and galvanised international opposition to the Taliban's brutal rule. Yet just two months ago, 22-year-old Najiba was mercilessly killed by the Taliban, just one hour's drive from Kabul. The Taliban created a fake court and once they decided she was guilty, executed her within an hour. "It was tyrannical and barbaric - it is impossible that the law would allow what they did", says Mullah Badam, who witnessed the killing. Speaking to Afghan women it's evident that violent abuse is still commonplace. 18-year-old Mumtaz had acid thrown on her face by her would-be husband, who she had refused to marry. "They would not let me look in the mirror. I cried a lot", she says. But there are women who are fighting back, including MP Fawzia Koofi, who plans to take on Hamid Karzai for the presidency. An outspoken champion of women's rights, she has faced assassination attempts and numerous death threats. She argues that for her male political opposition, "women's rights are a matter of sacrifice". In a military hospital in Islamabad, hundreds of "profoundly damaged and disabled" soldiers are being treated. They've come from the western tribal belt, where for the last nine years Pakistan has been waging a largely hidden war against extremists. "There has been this double game that has gone on for many years, of Pakistan supporting the NATO presence in Afghanistan and at the same time allowing the Afghan Taliban to operate against the NATO forces", explains Pakistan's foremost expert on Islamists in the region, Ahmed Rashid. Afghanische und US-Regierungsvertreter haben nach Medienberichten aus dem Jahr 2011 immer wieder vermutet, der einäugige Taliban-Chef verstecke sich in Quetta und werde vom pakistanischen Geheimdienst ISI geschützt. Pakistan wies dies regelmäßig zurück. Auch Berichte über den Tod Mullah Omars wurden dementiert. Ausgerüstet mit versteckten Kameras begeben sich drei junge Frauen, die lange in Afghanistan gelebt und gearbeitet haben und daher das Land sehr gut kennen, auf seine Spur. Mit viel Geschick, Durchsetzungsfähigkeit und Charme ist es den Frauen gelungen, kulturelle und politische Schranken zwischen der westlichen Welt und den Afghanen ebenso zu überwinden wie gut bewachte Sicherheitsabsperrungen. Manche Türen öffneten sich gerade, weil sie Frauen sind, andere blieben ihnen trotz ihrer Entschlossenheit versperrt. Mit ihren unter den Burkas versteckten Kameras entlarven sie bewusste Fehlinformationen und Propaganda. Mit Fakten, ungefälschtem Bildmaterial und vertrauenswürdigen Zeugenberichten bringen sie Licht in die Gerüchte um Mullah Omar. Ihr Film zeigt Mullah Mohammed Omar als einen Mann, der immer noch Kalif und damit oberster Herr der Gläubigen und Anführer der Taliban ist. Mullah Omar gehört auch noch ein Jahrzehnt nach seinem Untertauchen zu den meistgesuchten Männern der Welt. Und glaubt man seinen Anhängern, so scheint er sein letztes Wort zur Zukunft Afghanistans noch nicht gesprochen zu haben.

Daily Military News & Combat Footage at FUNKER530.com - http://vid.io/xGB The cameraman had this to say to after submitting the footage to FUNKER530: This patrol was a relief in place and I was on point leading the new guys in for the RIP. We hadn't taken much contact in this area, and it was generally considered a "safe" zone in Logar Province. We patrolled the area frequently, and the locals would regularly thank us for pushing the Taliban away from their village so they could live their daily lives without constant threat. The Taliban that we came across during this patrol were actually setting up to shoot down our new surveillance balloon that was launched in the area. The balloon caught the entire fight on camera from above, which confirmed that we killed 3 Taliban fighters during this engagement. I saw the first guy shoulder his RPG, take a knee, and point it directly at me from about 15 meters away. I'm not sure if it was luck, but I shot first and hit him twice. The rest of the team engaged immediately after. At the end of the day there were no friendly casualties, and we had eliminated 3 Taliban fighters. I wanted to share the video with the world because I was sick of hearing all the ignorant things said about what we are doing over there. People need to understand what it's like on the ground for the troops on the front line, and see what we have to deal with on a daily basis without some political spin on the story. The Taliban (Pashto: طالبان), alternative spelling Taleban, (ṭālibān, meaning "students" in Pashto) is an Islamist militant and political group that ruled large parts of Afghanistan and its capital, Kabul, as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from September 1996 until October 2001. It gained diplomatic recognition from three states: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The main leader of the Taliban movement is Mullah Mohammed Omar, and Kandahar is considered the birthplace of the Taliban.
While in power, it enforced its strict interpretation of Sharia law, and leading Muslims have been highly critical of the Taliban's interpretations of Islamic law. The Taliban were condemned internationally for their brutal repression of women. The majority of their leaders were influenced by Deobandi fundamentalism, and many also strictly follow the social and cultural norm called Pashtunwali. The Taliban movement is primarily made up of members belonging to Pashtun tribes, the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan.
