Arnakia

Arnakia (Lambs) started as a band back in 1984 jamming under the sounds of the Clash, Stranglers etc in various basements around exarchia and kipseli in the center of Athens, Greece. They participated two tracks on the infamous various artists LP “Syllogh Antithanatou”. The band changes constantly members till '88 when bassist Dimitris Papatheofilou meets during his army's service Haris Papasideris who joins the band as a guitarist, soon after that an advertisement on the “Pop & Rock” magazine brings Antonis Protonotarios in the band as their new drummer and that's their final line-up. They recorded the LP “Sto stoma tou lykou” (In wolve's mouth) somewhere in 1992 and in 1996 they started to record for their new Full-Length, but suddenly Antonis after the drums recording session dies due to heart problems. The rest members record later that year the tracks on antonis pre-recorded drums and finally release their second LP “To Ergostasio” (the factory) in 1999. Arnakia is a band that take equal parts from the 90's rock alternative scene of Athens as of course elements from the 80's punk scene. They may have a clear and bass-driven sound but you can definitely listen some huge tracks, nice melodic vocals and lyrics that goes from personal frustration to social rage all written in a personal way. The last track of the second LP (that everyone knows as their self titled LP and not as “To ergostsio”) “Imouna nekros” (I was dead) it's written for the death of the greek anarchist Christoforos Marinos. Here you get the second LP on a 256kbps rip from my hard-copy and this LP is my favorite tune for my running sessions lately because it fills me with a great feeling of inner peace. Take care.

ALT T.C

live in Villa Amalias squat somewhere in 1998

I'm trying some time now to find the right words to start explain my feelings about one of my favorite bands of my childhood. Alt T.C were a band that I got so fucking much of, mainly to my friendship with one of the band's members, Doros who was the bassist of the band and the first person who copied tapes for me. He opened the magic world of punk in front of me with cassettes of Blitz, One way system, GBH, Dead Kennedys, Antidrasi, Genia tou Xaous, Negative Stance, Naytia and so many more great bands so this post is also a big THANX dude. Alt t.c born in July of 1994 in the island of Corfu, greece. Four young men that wanted to express their concerns and beliefs and anger through their music, they released one demo and a 7'' till 1998 that they changed vocalist and they added a second guitar with the sound going-on more on the anarcho-punk scene of that era, sharp and tight punk with dual angry vocals. They self-released their second demo Akoma Zontanos (Still Alive) with ten great hardcore punk songs. The sound is not the best but, for a one-day recording on a four-track I think it's dynamic and powerful. I remember like it was yesterday -back in the high-school years – when mom was going to take a nap after her work I was snicking in her car and played fucking loud this cassette. Three years later they released a split LP with 20 minutes de chaos from france on the anarchist collective / record label Maloka. Better production and sound enforce the synthesis with melodic riffs, tight rhythm section and political lyrics. I can say that this band did it for me back in the day and from time to time when I feel frustrated I put the demo on the player and start screaming the lyrics right through my heart. Maybe the greek answer to Sin Dios? Enjoy...

Haggatha & Hibernation @ Kalidromiou 94

My dear diary,

I had the honour to be in kalidromiou 94 basement that silly and so prospective night of our beloved september. You know, i didn't had the chance to see Eternal Hated cause i told my self "what the fuck name is that? i don't like metalcore names". I met sarabante twins and we had some drinks, while Haggatha guys ruled the stage with their theatric, traumatic and heavily dizzed stoner/sludgecore the way we used to like it back in early 00's, with a mascot for a drummer that i cut off my hands he was playing on "life of Brian" by Monty Pythons.

And then, ohhh my beloved diary. Then came Hibernation. As we say hell on earth. They were crucial, like they enjoyed every fucking second of their set, with he crowd - packed as in a human furniture - going nuts, with endless singalongs and fists in the air and some pogo and more sing along and so much feeling, with the canadians sludgers to delivering the goods "best band we saw live". Hibernation alive and kicking. Big hugs to Worlds appreciatice kitsch and Nick "the huge" Pale for the great photos. That's all for tonight my beloved diary. I kiss you, goodnight.

Toxic Vomit

Κάθε φορά που έρχεται μία κυκλοφορία εδώ στα κεντρικά του φιφντινκάουντζοβάρσον στο Πικέρμι που ταράζει τα νερά, και κάνει τα μυαλά μας να πονάνε όπως όταν κατακτά, με την αξία του, ο Αστέρας Εξαρχείων την κούπα, ξεκινάω το ριβιού με την φράση ''Τί να πεί κανείς...'' και μετά λέω και άλλα πολλά πράγματα, συνήθως θετικά...

Έτσι και τώρα...

ΤΙ ΝΑ ΠΕΙ ΚΑΝΕΙΣ για αυτό το θερμοπυρηνικό ολοκαύτωμα που έκαψε τα προηγούμενα κεντρικά μας γραφεία στη Λούτσα και αναγκαστήκαμε να μετακομίσουμε στο Πικέρμι;!!;)  Η μπάντα τα παίζει όλα σε ένα δίσκο! Βασικά πάνκ παίζουν, αλλά οι μάγκες τα'παν όλα. Οι προτάσεις πλέον για contract στην Maverick της Μαντόνα τους έχει αναγκάσει να δουλέβουν παράλληλα 3 διαφορετικούς λογαριασμούς mail, και τα γκρούπ στο facebook δίνουν και παίρνουν... Όσο για τα likes στο youtube είναι τόσα πολλά που η πράσινη μπάρα κοντέβει να τετραγωνίσει όλο το βίντεο. Τόσο πράσινο ούτε σε αναδάσωση του Σκάι (του Αλαφούζου... που έχει την Πανάθα... που είναι και αυτή πράσινη... όλα συνδέονται...).

Στιχουργικά, γιατί μουσικά γαμάνε τα'παμε και πιό πριν, κινούνται στο ρεαλιστικό φουτουριστικό ρεύμα του Νίνο (..Και αν έρχεται το τέλος και η κα-τα-στροφή, το μόνο-που μετράει.. για μέ-ναεισαί σύ)... Καταστροφολογία, μαύρος ψόφος, κλάμα και οδυρμός, uber-ζόφος και μιζέρια... ότι πρέπει δηλαδή για να υποδεχτούμε την νέα σεζόν... 'Ντάξει τα παιδιά, τα κορίτσια δηλαδή γιατί στην μπάντα παίζουν η Κατερίνα κιθάρες, το Μαράκι τύμπανα και φωνές, η Κατερίνα που λέγαμε πιο πρίν επίσης φωνές, η Κατερίνα που έχει ξανααναφερθεί μπάσο και πλήκτρα, ενώ η Δούκισσα είναι επί του νομικού (τα πιάσατε το αστειάκι έτσι..) και επί του μάνατζμεντ. Τί λέγαμε; Τα κορίτσα λοιπόν έχουν και κοινωνικές ευαισθησίες και αναλύουν θέματα που μας αφορούν όλους και που κανείς δεν μπορεί να πεί ότι κλείνει τα αυτιά του, άλλος τα μάτια του και άλλος το στόμα του σαν εκείνο το σκίτσο με τις μαϊμούδες, ούτε όμως να μοιάζει με λάχανο όπως ο δίσκος των Discharge, που γενικά έχουν αρκετές επιρροές από Τοξικός Εμετός.

Τοξικός Εμετός λέγεται η μπάντα που παίζουν η προαναφερθείσα Κατερίνα, το Μαράκι και που δουλεύει η Δούκισσα επί του νομικού τομέα και του μάνατζμεντ.

Μιλάνε για τον ιπτάμενο τρόμο, τα νέα αυτά αστικά panzer, τους αρουραίους των αιθέρων, τα περιστέρια και τις 18ούρες (που κανείς δεν ξέρει να τα ξεχωρίζει γιατί καμουφλάρονται), που αυτά τα καρφιά που βάζουν κάποιοι στα μπαλκόνια και στα περβάζια τους δεν τα ενοχλούν πια, γιατί είναι μαζόχες και πουστοπερίστερα και απλά τα βάνουν στον κώλο τους και μετά απλά πετάνε παραπέρα. Επίσης τα χιώσματά τους, τα απεκρίμματα αλλιώς, φέρουν μολύνσεις και είναι πουτάνα φάση αν τα αφήσεις και ξεραθούν. Μιλάνε για τις βόμβες πλουτωνίου, κρυπτωνίου , ουρανίου και νετρωνίου, που καθημερινά σκοτώνουν τα τρισεκατομμύρια παιδάκια που προσπαθούν ακόμα να βγάλουν τα riff του Γάντζου, και είναι πολύ δύσκολα για αυτά, αλλά πολύ εύκολα για αυτόν, αλλά και πως να τα βγάλουν άμα δεν τους δίνει κανείς την ευκαιρία, και τα σκοτώνει με μπόμπες;

Επίσης λέει για παπάδες μπούστηδες, κάτι πρεζόνια από Βάθης (athens city hardcore ρε καργιόλια), και για τα ναρκωτικά, κάτι το οποίο συνάδει με το νέο ήθος του blog (το οποίο είναι φούλ τρέξιμο, σαλάτες και κοντά στο κίνημα ''Πανκ, βάρη και ξύλο στους φασίστες)..

Επίσης βρήκα άλλους 5 λόγους για να ακούει κανείς τον δίσκο:

1) Την ώρα του φαγητού
2) Ξύλο στους φασίστες
3) Αντί του κλίσματος, ή συνεπικουρούμενου με αυτό
4) Ξύλο στους φασίστες
5) Μαζί με ένα χαλαρωτικό μπάνιο σε μια μπανιέρα γεμάτη παγάκια με κλειστό το φως

Ο τρόπος που πεθαίνει ο τύπος στο τέλος του ''Τρίτος Παγκόσμιος Πόλεμος'' είναι φαντασμαγορικός, επιπέδου χόλυγουντ, ενώ έγκυρες πληροφορίες με πληροφορούν για επικείμενο εφτάρι το οποίο κράζει το Βέλγιο στην πρώτη πλευρά ενώ στην δεύτερη έχει διασκευή Μάβρα Ιδανικά από το λάιβ στα Μέγαρα στις 13/1/85.

Τέλος το έβαλα μετά από Out Cold,
και ενώ δεν παίζουν ίδια φάση,
κολλάνε οπότε κομπλέ...

Gutter - Demo 2012 & Interview

It seems that every now and then a great band pop-up outta nowhere in our beloved Athens zofos city. Gutter seems to be the reason to start a new band and deliver some sloppy and menacing hardcore punk, you should try it, it works. Read carefully this interview, you won't become a better pesron but surely you'll appreciate some interesting views from some dedicated and good young lads (and an old one). FC : Ποιοι στο διάολο είναι οι Gutter και πως έχουν δημιουργήσει τόσο τεράστιο hype γύρω απ'το όνομα τους; Ρωτάω κυρίως επειδή συνεχώς ακούω κόσμο να μιλάει για σας και δη να σας βρίζει...
Bak : Αν μας βρίζουν τότε έχουμε εκπληρώσει έναν από τους στόχους που θέσαμε σαν μπάντα, για το hype εσύ φταις με τις βλακείες που γράφεις στα ίντερνετ.

Ι : Φίλε, νομίζω οι ερωτήσεις είναι στοχευμένες. Ξέρω πολύ καλά με ποιους κάνεις παρέα.

St : Οι Gutter είναι απλά μια παρέα ατόμων,που ξεκίνησαν ως 4 και κατέληξαν 5,οι οποίοι γουστάραν να παίξουν 80’s αμερικάνικο hc punk. Έτσι απλά. Όσο για το hype. Hype my ass! Για να μιλήσω και λίγο αμερικάνικα.

FC : Μόλις ολοκληρώσατε την ηχογράφηση του πρώτου demo. Πως πήγε η φάση, είστε ικανοποιημένοι; κάνα ευτράπελο;
Bak : Πήρε λίγο καιρό αλλά βγήκε ικανοποιητικό, βέβαια τώρα είναι και ο Μάνος με δεύτερη κιθάρα που δεν είναι στο demo. Ευτράπελα δεν είχαμε, εκτός ότι τα όργανα μας παρουσίασαν βλάβες (είναι σάπια) και ηχογραφήσαμε με δανεικά.

St : H φάση πήγε μια χαρά. Και ας είναι καλά η Βασιλική και ο Γιώργος που μας βοήθησαν αρκετα με την ηχογράφηση – μιξη – mastering. To μόνο που θα θέλαμε βέβαια να γίνει και δεν έγινε ήταν ότι το demo θέλαμε να το βγάλουμε και σε κασσέτα. Αυτό όμως είδαμε ότι θα μας κόστιζε κάπως παραπάνω και το αφήσαμε. Διανύουμε καιρούς κρίσης βλέπεις.

FC : Πολλές φιλικές συμμετοχές στα φωνητικά καθώς και ένα rivalry σε εξέλιξη. Πως ξεκίνησε αυτή η φάση καθώς  και αν νοιώθετε την καυτή ανάσα των B(A)TTER στον σβέρκο σας;
Bak : Την φάση με τα gang vocals θέλαμε να την κάνουμε εξαρχής, το συναίσθημα του να ουρλιάζεις σε ένα μικρόφωνο με φίλους είναι απλά τέλειο. Οι Batter καλό θα είναι να προσέχουν από εδώ και πέρα...

Vang : Όσο για την καυτή ανάσα των Batter στο σβέρκο μας, έχουμε όλοι αρχίσει να αφήνουμε χαίτη-λασπωτήρα και δε θα παίξει πρόβλημα.

Ι : Φήμες θέλουν τον drummer των batter να αυτοεξορίζεται από την πόλη γιατί δεν άντεξε τις συνέπειες του rivalry, οπότε μπορούμε να βγάλουμε πλέον κάποια συμπεράσματα.

FC : Πόσο εύκολο είναι να δουλεύεις καινούρια κομμάτια με ένα γέροντα με υπέρταση και αυξημένη ουρία; υπήρξαν στιγμές που θα θέλατε απλά να τον τουφεκίσετε;
Bak: Αν εξαιρέσεις τις φάσεις που κάτι τον πιάνει και θέλει να αλλάξει σημεία από κομμάτια που τα παίζουμε για ένα χρόνο,  κατά τα άλλα είναι ότι ακριβώς χρειάζεται αυτή η μπάντα.

FC : Ξεκινήσατε ως κουαρτέτο και τελικά προσθέσατε ακόμα μια κιθάρα που εγώ θεωρώ πως έδεσε καταπληκτικά.  Πως και πήρατε τον Μάνο απτούς Sarabante; Παρότι φαίνεται να μην ταιριάζει στο στυλ σας ανταυτου δείχνει να το διασκεδάζει. Πως τον ξεχωρίζεται απ τον δίδυμο αδερφό του; Φοράει κομποσκοίνια; Κανα τρικ για να καταλαβαίνουμε κ εμείς με ποιον μιλάμε κάθε φορά;
Bak : Πράγματι έδεσε τέλεια με τον Μάνο και χαίρομαι πολύ που είναι μαζί μας, κάτω από το βαρύ crust γιλέκο του κρύβεται μια αγνή hardcore ψυχή χαχα. Δύσκολα τους ξεχωρίζω και εγώ, πρόσφατα όμως πρόσεξα ότι ο Μάνος έχει τρύπα σε εμφανές σημείο όποτε ξεχωρίζουν.

Vang : Ο Μάνος είναι εξαιρετικός τύπος και χάρηκα που γούσταρε και μας πρότεινε ο ίδιος να παίξει μαζί μας. Ο ήχος έχει αλλάξει προς το καλύτερο πιστεύω και μας δίνετε η δυνατότητα να έχουμε πιο πλούσιες συνθέσεις στα έγχορδα. Απαγορεύονται τα crust αρπίσματα χαχα.

Ι : Πάντως μια φόρα που είχε έρθει ο αδερφός του δεν καταλάβαμε τίποτα. Ήταν αρχή και δικαιολογήθηκε ότι δεν θυμόταν τα κομμάτια. Μας το εκμυστηρεύτηκε 3 μήνες αργότερα.

St : Στην αρχή δε σκεφτόμασταν να έχουμε δεύτερη κιθάρα. Ο Μανος ήρθε από μόνος του να μας πει ότι θα γούσταρε να παίξει μαζί μας και αυτό το εκτιμήσαμε πάρα πολύ. Βάλε και το ότι είναι φίλος και βιρτουόζος (χαχα) . Ε, δε μπορώ να πω ότι το σκεφτήκαμε και πολύ. Στη πράξη είδαμε κιόλας, όχι ότι μόνο ταίριαξε, αλλά έδωσε και κάτι πολύ παραπάνω στη μπάντα. Όσο για τις διαφορές με τον αδελφό του. Ο Μάνος απέδειξε ότι είναι και old school τύπος,  ενώ ο αδελφός του επαναπαύθηκε στη σουηδική μαύρη crustila να πούμε!  Τώρα για το πως να τους ξεχωρίζεις φυσιογνωμικά δύσκολο να πω. Πριν 2 χρόνια είχα κάνει προτροπή και στα 2 αδέλφια να φτιάξουμε μια hc μπάντα η οποία δεν έκατσε. Πριν λίγο καιρό βλέπω, τάχα μου, τον αδελφό του τον Βαγγέλη και άρχισα να του πετάω σπόντες που δεν ήθελε να κάνουμε μπάντα παλιά και να του λέω ότι τώρα καλά να πάθει που ο αδερφός του ήρθε με εμάς κλπ κλπ. Και ξαφνικά ακούω ‘’ Ρε Στάθη ο Μάνος είμαι! ’’ . Ε, τότε κατάλαβα ότι η κατάσταση είναι αδιέξοδη! Δε ξέρει κανείς ποτέ με ποιόν μιλάει! Βαγγόλης ή Μανέλης? Who knows!

FC : Στάθης ο αδέκαστος κριτής του hardcore ή John Brannon;
Βak: Ο Brannon ψήνει μπιφτέκια σε φαστφουντάδικο τώρα οπότε σίγουρα ο Στάθης.

Ι: Δεν μπορείς να πεις όχι στον Punk εισαγγελέα


FC : Τι σχέση έχουν οι Gutter με την μεταθανάτιο ζωή;
Bak : ..ότι σχέση έχουν και οι χατ τρικ με το punk.


FC : Σε ποιο απτά κάτωθι θεωρείται ότι βρίσκεστε πιο κοντά και γιατί :
raw power – Screams from the GUTTER
discharge – born to die in the GUTTER
behind enemy lines – GUTTER religion
Bak : Raw Power σίγουρα, αν και τα άλλα δύο μας εκφράζουν επίσης.

Ι : Savatage - Gutter Ballet

St : Θα έλεγα τους Raw Power ασυζητητί και το τραγούδι ‘’Gutter boy´´ από One Way System!


FC : Λίγα λόγια για τους στίχους. Πολύ μαυρίλα ρε παιδάκι μου. Γιατί έτσι; Σε αντίθεση με τη μουσική που κρύβει κάποιους τόνους αισιοδοξίας οι στίχοι είναι αρκετά σκληροί. Όνειρα που ξεθώριασαν στο πέρασμα των χρόνων, καταραμένοι έρωτες ή απλά οι Gutter είναι μια ωδή στο σύγχρονο Negative hardcore;
Βak : Υπάρχουν και αισιόδοξοι στίχοι, είναι πως το αντιλαμβάνεται ο καθένας όμως. Negative hardcore δεν θα το έλεγα, μελαγχολικό με δόσεις μίσους ίσως...

Vang : Οι στίχοι είναι βιωματικοί με τον έναν ή τον άλλο τρόπο. Καθότι μιλάνε για πράγματα που έχουμε βιώσει άμεσα στις  περισσότερες περιπτώσεις. Νομίζω ότι μέσα από αρνητικά συναισθήματα και αντικρίζοντας το αδιέξοδο αυτού του κόσμου βρίσκει κανείς πιο ξεκάθαρα τι είναι αυτό που τον κάνει πραγματικά να θέλει να συνεχίσει να ζει.

St : Νομίζω ότι οι στίχοι που έχουμε γράψει εμπερίεχουν τα πάντα. Από αισιοδοξία μέχρι απαισιοδοξία. Από μελαγχολία μέχρι  χαρά. Από παραίτηση μέχρι επίθεση και οργή. Δεν έχουμε πιστεύω ένα συγκεκριμένο μοτίβο στους στίχους και θεωρώ ότι αυτό είναι και το καλύτερο. 

FC : Σε μια παλιά συνέντευξη ο LG-Petrov των Entombed λέει πως δεν νοείται death metal με πιασαρικα αλά Iron Maiden riffs. Το death metal είναι πόνος και μίσος και όχι χαρούμενες κιθάρες. Κάπως έτσι νομίζω είναι και το hardcore. Τι γνώμη έχετε για μπάντες που προωθούν τον όρο positive hardcore;
Bak : Οι Entombed γίνανε γνωστοί όταν φλωρέψανε τον ήχο τους και βγάζανε μόνο πιασάρικα κομμάτια, αλλά δεν μπορώ παρά να συμφωνήσω με την δήλωση του. Στο hardcore πιστεύω όμως πως υπάρχει χώρος για μελωδικά στοιχεία (Poison Idea, ένα καλό παράδειγμα). Για το positive hardcore δεν έχω να πω κάτι, υπάρχουν μπάντες που έχουν κάτι να πουν και άλλες που απλά αναμασούν κλασσικά θέματα (κατακερματισμένες φιλίες, χαμένους έρωτες κλπ) και γίνονται κουραστικοί.

Vang : Έμενα μου αρέσουν τα πιασάρικα τυροκομικά ριφφάκια και στο punk πάνε γάντι κάποιες φορές, δες Ιαπωνία.. Εντάξει αυτά τα positive/negative hardcore, τα θεωρώ ψυχαναγκαστικά. Ας ροκάρει η μουσική και θα βρεις και εσύ πως νιώθεις και τι σε άγγιξε και τι σιχάθηκες. Εντάξει θετική ενέργεια με το στανιό δεν γίνεται.. χαχα. Αφού η ζωή έχει ups and downs που λένε και οι Εγγλέζοι.


FC : Μιας και πιάσαμε τα Αποφθέγματα  μεγάλων στοχαστών ο Paco ignacio Taibo II αναρωτιέται σε ένα βιβλίο του “Είναι το Λεαντρο ένα όνομα για ξεκωλιάρηδες;”. Οι Gutter πως στέκονται απέναντι σ'αυτο;
Bak: Με έπιασες αδιάβαστο...ρώτα κάτι για τον Darby Crash και θα σου πώ.

I: Σταυροπόδι. 

FC : Τελευταία μετά από μια περίοδο μουσικής ακαμψίας της ελληνικής hardcore / punk σκηνής επιτέλους ξεπηδάν πολύ καλές μπάντες. Conspiracy of denial, Jagernaut, Dirty wombs, Go filth go και τώρα Cut off και Gutter. Που νομίζεται ότι οφείλεται αυτή η μουσική “άνοιξη”;
Bak : Αδράνεια, βαρεμάρα, απόγνωση και ανάγκη για έκφραση είναι νομίζω τα βασικά συστατικά.

Vang : Μου φαίνεται γραφικό να πω πως "το punk αναδύεται σε περιόδους κρίσης" οπότε θα πω απλά πως για να την παλέψεις στα δύσκολα στρέφεσαι σε κάτι συλλογικό και δημιουργικό..

St : Δε πιστεύω ότι υπάρχουν κάποιοι ιδιαίτεροι λόγοι γι’ αυτό. Απλά έγινε και θεωρώ ότι είναι πολύ σημαντικό αυτό το ξεσήκωμα. Εδώ και 2 – 3 χρόνια  γίνεται κάτι το οποίο σε καμία περίπτωση δε βλέπαμε τη περασμένη δεκαετία η οποία ήταν μόνο ζόφος σε αυτό το θέμα. Κάποτε δε μπορούσαμε να βρούμε με ευκολία κάποια μπάντα για να παίξει με μια μπάντα του εξωτερικού ή να για να στηθεί κάποιο live γενικώς . Τώρα μπορείς να κάνεις 2ημερο φεστιβάλ με πληθώρα από μπάντες με σχετική άνεση κιόλας! Πιστεύω απλά ότι αυτό συμβαίνει, γιατί τώρα υπάρχουν πιο πολλά άτομα που έχουν διάθεση και ενέργεια να δημιουργήσουν αντί να κάθονται όπως συνέβαινε τα προηγούμενα χρόνια.


FC : Πόσο δύσκολο είναι να μάθεις στον bak να παίζει μπάσο;

St : Έχεις ακούσει ποτέ σολιά στο μπάσο από τον Bak να σου φύγει το κλαπέτο που ομιλείς κιόλας?


FC : Bak ή Sid Vicious;
Vang: Bak, γιατί τον κυνηγάω μόνο για τα τσίπουρα  πριν τις συναυλίες..


FC : Πως βλέπουν οι Gutter to DIY; Τελικά υπάρχει τέτοιο πράγμα και τι στον κόρακα είναι; Να οργανώνεις μόνος σου τις συναυλίες σου η κάτι παραπάνω και γιατί;
Bak: Το diy υπάρχει και θα συνεχίσει να υπάρχει, είναι κάτι που λειτουργεί σε πολλά επίπεδα. Οι συναυλίες είναι μόνο ένα από τα πράγματα που μπορεί κάποιος να κάνει, προσωπικά το αντιλαμβάνομαι σαν μέσο έκφρασης και εναντίωσης στην κενή και
“ασφαλή” mainstream κουλτούρα.
Επίσης, μέσω του να κάνεις πράγματα diy ανακαλύπτεις και τα όρια σου.

Vang: Tο DIY μπορεί να γίνει πράξη σε πολλές πτυχές της ζωής και της καθημερινότητας, βρίσκοντας τρόπους στο να καλυφθούν διαφορές ανάγκες και επιθυμίες ενός ή περισσοτέρων ατόμων παρακάμπτοντας την σύγχρονη καταναλωτική πραγματικότητα όσο αυτό είναι δυνατό..
Βοηθάει στη αυτογνωσία, την αυτοβελτίωση και την συνεργασία μεταξύ των ανθρώπων και χίλια δυο άλλα..
Στεκομενος στο μουσικό μέρος θα συμφωνήσω με το Bak...

i: Δεν ξερω ρε συ τι λένε οι άλλοι, έγω κάτι ενισχυτές κουβαλάω, κάτι ηχεία, κατι καλώδια τραβάμε, καλώδια κολλάμε. Τι να σου πω ?

St: H diy φάση, όπως και το punk που είπα παραπάνω, έχει δυναμώσει τον τελευταίο καιρό. Δε θα πω πολλά. Απλά, τι πιο ωραίο να δημιουργείς συλλογικά με φίλους και διάφορους συντρόφους αυτοργανωμένα και χωρίς επαγγελματίες μεσάζοντες . Είτε αυτό είναι συναυλία, είτε θεατρικό, είτε πάρτυ και πάει λέγοντας. Κουραση υπάρχει και βγαίνει, αλλά ειλικρινά  η συγκεκριμένη κούραση είναι πολύ υποφερτή και γλυκιά επειδή νοιώθεις ότι κάνεις κάτι που αξίζει τον κόπο. Και αυτό το συναίσθημα δε νομίζω ότι βγαίνει σε οποιοδήποτε μαγαζί για παράδειγμα.


FC : Γιατί διασκευές Reagan Youth και Void και όχι D.S.B και Uniform Choice;
Bak: Γιατί μας εκφράζουν περισσότερο στην παρούσα φάση...

Vang: Άσε που δεν είμαστε ούτε Γιαπωνέζοι, ούτε Straight edge.

St: Είναι ή δεν είναι από τις καλύτερες μπάντες που έχουν βγει στο hc punk οι συγκεκριμενοι? Δε νομίζω ότι χρίζει κάποιας ανάλυσης. Οι D.S.B θα κόλλαγαν καλύτερα για Dirty Wombs ή Anti Mob θα έλεγα. Uniform Choice? Χμμ, ωραία θα ήταν! Μη βάζεις ιδέες! Χαχα!


FC : Οι πληροφορίες μου λένε για καινούριο 7'' και περιοδεία στην κολομβια...Άλλα σχέδια για το μέλλον;
Vang: Λάθος σου είπανε οι πληροφορίες σου όχι στην Κολομβία... Πάμε για τρέλες στις Σεϋχέλλες! ΩΩΩ!

St: Υπάρχουν ιδέες για ένα 7'' και ενα split 7'' και λέμε να μπούμε τον Ιούνιο να ηχογραφήσουμε κάμποσα τραγούδια.Μετά από αυτό θα πάμε Tζαμάϊκα σε περιοδεία με Bad Brains και θα παίζουμε τα τραγούδια μας σε dub!


FC : Κλείστε όπως θέλετε...
Bak: Οι Metalica και οι DRI είναι οι χειρότερες μπάντες που έχουν επηρεαστεί από το αμερικάνικο hardcore, ορίστε το είπα! Επιτέλους το έβγαλα από μέσα μου!

Vang: Τραγουδάω κρυφά Hallowed Be Thy Name καραόκε καμιά φορά σπίτι, ήθελα από μικρός να τραγουδήσω σαν το Bruce και τον Βασίλη, με τζίν γιλέκο…  Rock On!

Dirty Wombs - We Rise cassette

“You can sample the sound of fire or the air in the woods. But, to sample the sound of rain, that is forbidden. And the sound of bell too. Especially, if it's used on a band's first demo or album. Any band that use a bell or a rain on it's first release it's doomed to fail.”

Well, Dirty Wombs from Patras, greece did the sin in fenriz's black book. In their latest cassette they kick off with some rain sound only to start their attacks of speedy hipper energetic tunes of good old-school hardcore. I think i have to sent him this cassette, with the note “First album, rain sample. Kicks ass”. Nice guitar works and double shouted / gravy vocals by some nice and “down to the ground” kids (consider that they call a 27 year old girl “cougar” and you'll understand why I have to call them kids).

“Eternity shore” starts with a great japanese fa(s)t and tight heavy riff (just after the rain sample) that many bands would like to have on their releases, while the rest tracks nail you to the ground. So, com'on push the PLAY button again - you fuckers - coz these guys really deserve it.

They did also the great japanese trick. They wrote some of the couples in greek and filled the choruses with English (that's clever guys...) while the majority of the English shouts have that old greek accent (αξεπέραστη ελληνική προφορά στα όρια της θέωσης). They did a great cover to Death side's “Fight your way” changing the lyrics to the greek language and added a bouzouki instead of a piano. Goat followers, tzatziki eaters and larissa locals take care (η αλλιώς “η προβατίλα μυρίζει από μακρυά”). Fans of japanese – burning spirits style – hardcore check these malakes coz many bands would like to have this sound and most of all, many bands would like to have so good compositions. If you like bands like D.S.B, Crude, Death side and the rest in your face doomed hardcore punk legends these dudes doing it great filtering it, in their own unique style. Arigato...

Ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ, στον ντίνο και τον βάιο από dirty wombs που μας άνοιξαν το σπιτικό τους, μας σήκωσαν στον αέρα για να κάνουμε crowd surfing με χίλιες δυο βλακείες για soundtrack, μας σκλάβωσαν με τα καθαρά χαμόγελα τους και μας έδειξαν τα κατατόπια σε ένα πραγματικά απολαυστικό σαββατοκύριακο για όλους εμάς που δραπετεύσαμε για λίγο απ'τα νυχιά της μητρόπολης.

Land of Martyrdom

''Ανακάλυψα'' τους Land of Martyrdom μια Δευτέρα πρωί....
Με διάθεση σκατά, από αυτές που σε κάνουν να καπνίζεις ενώ σιχαίνεσαι τη νικοτίνη και με το άγχος να δίνει το τελικό κροσέ κάνοντάς σε ''να ψάχνεις τα δόντια σου με σπασμένα δάχτυλα''.
Το πρώτο κομμάτι που άκουσα ήταν το ''ganges''. Και λέω δεν γίνεται να υπάρχει κάτι άλλο στον κόσμο αυτή τη στιγμή που να περιγράφει καλύτερα αυτό το συναίσθημα.
Δεν υπάρχει κάτι άλλο που παράλληλα να το προσπερνά. Σαν οδοστρωτήρας.
Τα φωνητικά στα κομμάτια είναι όσο απόκοσμα χρειάζεται για να θυμίζουν πώς θα έπρεπε να ψελλίζονται οι ''καλημέρες'', πώς να ξερνιούνται οι πληροφορίες στις συνεντεύξεις για δουλειά, πώς να στριγκλίζονται τα τελευταία αντίο.
Τα τύμπανα με ακρίβεια και ξεσπάσματα που σπάνε κόκαλα, ο ήχος συμπαγής σαν ''steel and stone'' (στο κεφάλι φασίστα) και η κιθάρα συντροφεύει/συνθέτει με τον καλύτερο τρόπο αυτήν την ατμόσφαιρα που κάνει τα βράδια στα μπαρ να φαντάζουν πιο βαρετά, την ημικρανία της διασκέδασης ακόμα πιο ξένη.
Σε αυτό το ''έδαφος'', το διάτρητο από μέταλ, χάρντκορ και άλλες (κοντινές /;/ ) διαδρομές, συναρμολογείται αυτό το ''μαρτύριο'' που στέλνει στα τσακίδια τις κατηγοριοποιήσεις.
Η μπάντα αποτελείται από δύο άτομα. Και οι δύο παίζουν κιθάρα και στους Hellstorm...
Συνιστάτε ανεπιφύλακτα και αφιερώνεται σε αυτές και αυτούς που τριγυρνάνε στα στενά των πόλεων ''άσκοπα'', ψάχνοντας χαραμάδα που να μην την έχει διαποτίσει το lifestyle, που να μην την έχει ισοπεδώσει το socializing.
Ψάχνοντας γωνιά που να μην την έχει ''καθαρίσει'' το γκλομπ του μπάτσου ή η τιμιότητα των ευυπόληπτων πολιτών.

Conspiracy of Denial - demo 2012

My good friends Conspiracy of Denial starts tomorrow morning their mini tour alongside turbo-blast sacrilege Jagernaut. Their heading to the east, and to be specific to Instanbul and Ankara for two gigs. First, they'll unleash their inferno stings to Biologiko squat in Thessaloniki tomorrow night. Please support both bands, because they fucking deserve it. Conspiracy recorded the three tracks i have posted a while back again with their new drummer and he has been also the mind of the recording procession. Nice recording, this time with some blast-beats, the vocals sound better and the leads are killing me slowly (τις κοβω τις φλεβες, που λενε...). In the Valley of Solitude

Speaking about good crust bands, i've totally forgotten this cd-r (2004 release) masterpiece. Hailing from Kastoria, greece this quartet visualizes how should TRAGEDY sound if they had moved somewhere in greek province instead of portland. The rest comes from salonika's black jaw, d. :

Οι Έρημος είναι, κατά τη γνώμη μου, μια από τις πολύ καλές ελληνικές μπάντες των τελευταίων χρόνων. Επηρεασμένοι κυρίως από την ελληνική σκηνή των αρχών τις δεκαετίας του '90, οι Έρημος (πολύ ταιριαστό όνομα) κατάφεραν να δημιουργήσουν έναν ήχο δικό τους και κάπως μοναδικό για τα ελληνικά δεδομένα. Η σκοτεινή τους ατμόσφαιρα γεμάτη με αίσθημα μελαγχολίας και απογοήτευσης είναι το κύριο χαρακτηριστικό της Κοιλάδας Της Μοναξιάς (ο τίτλος μιλάει από μόνος του). Όλο αυτό φαίνεται παντού μες στον δίσκο, από τη μουσική και τους στίχους ταυτόχρονα. Σκοτεινές μελωδίες, γρήγορο drumming, δυνατά διπλά φωνητικά και στίχοι πολύ προσωπικοί/κοινωνικοί,με τους οποίους μπορούν να ταυτιστούν λίγο-πολύ αρκετοί από εμάς. Κομμάτια που πραγματικά κόβουν σαν λεπίδια, σε γονατίζουν, αλλά την ίδια στιγμή σε καλούν στη μάχη ενάντια στη μιζέρια του σήμερα. Αυτή είναι η μοναδική τους κυκλοφορία (μαζί με το demo Γερασμένη Πόλη), ενώ αργότερα κάποια από τα μέλη τους δημιούργησαν τους Επιθανάτιος Ρόγχος και πήγαν όλον αυτόν τον ήχο ένα βήμα παραπέρα.

Avgrund Livet

Σίγουρα, δε θα μπορούσα να είμαι αντικειμενικός για ένα συγκρότημα του οποίου τα μέλη είναι όλοι φίλοι μου. Άνθρωποι για τους οποίους τρέφω απεριόριστο σεβασμό, με τους οποίους έχω οργανώσει συναυλίες και όχι μόνο, άρα η κριτική μου δεν μπορεί σε καμιά περίπτωση να ειδωθει ως αντικειμενική.

Οι Avgrund Livet (σημαίνει νομίζω “Χαμένοι στην Άβυσσο”) προέρχονται απτήν αθηνα και ήταν ενεργοί για αρκετά χρόνια, αν και, αν δεν κάνω λάθος δε πρέπει να έπαιξαν πάνω από 5-6 συναυλίες στα χρόνια που υπήρξαν ενεργοί. Αποτελούνταν από διάφορους γυρολόγους της ελληνικής “Καν'το μόνος σου” σκηνής. Ο Δ και ο Τ έπαιζαν στους Reality Bites και αργότερα στους Ατοπία, ο Β (ή αλλιώς D-Bill) στους Antimob και schwartz and anger, ο Χ στους Antimob και ο Μπ στους Kalazaar και Jagernaut μεταξύ άλλων.

Συγκρότημα δημιουργημένο κυρίως μέσω της παλιάς συναυλιακής της Villa Amalias Από άτομα που ασχολούνταν (άλλοι περισσότερο και άλλοι λιγότερο) με τα μουσικά δρώμενα της εποχής. Πρόβα με τη πρόβα στο ανήλιο μουχλιασμένο υπόγειο (ας το πούμε προβαδικο) δημιουργήθηκε αυτό το βαρύ και ασήκωτο γκριζωπό Caterpillar που λίγοι καταφέραμε να απολαύσουμε. Αλλά για να κατανοήσουμε το μέγεθος της σπουδαιότητας του εν λόγω συγκροτήματος πρέπει να κοιτάξουμε καλά το περιβάλλον στο οποίο ανδρώθηκε.

Είναι η εποχή που δεν έχει καταλαγιάσει ακόμα ο θόρυβος γύρω απτό επικό Vengeance των Tragedy, τα σημάδια είναι ακόμα νωπά απτά μεγαλειώδη live με crust μεγαθήρια που ήρθαν απτό εξωτερικό. Χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα ότι μετά τις συναυλίες των Jeniger και The Dagda μεγάλο κομμάτι των πανκς ήθελε να σχηματίσει συγκροτήματα τέτοιου ύφους. Προσθέτοντας και τους μεγαλειώδης δίσκους που κυκλοφορήσαν τότε οι Isis και Neurosis μπορούμε να καταλάβουμε τις καταβολές του group. Μεγαλειώδες σε στιγμές, βασανιστικό crust hardcore με μικρές post πινελιές. Μελωδικά riffs που συνθλίβονται από ασταμάτητα blast-beats και φωνές από τα τάρταρα. Κομμάτια γραμμένα για “όλες τις καμένες εκκλησιές” από φοιτητές της θεολογικής σχολής. Να προσθέσω πως οι Avgrund Livet ήταν ίσως η πιο δυνατή μπάντα που έχω δει εγώ μαζί με τους Schwartz and anger επί σκηνής. Χαρακτηριστική η “κόντρα” των δυο, όταν οι Schwartz διασκεύαζαν Πρωτοψάλτη και “πάμε χαβαυ” οι Avgrund παίζανε διασκευή Χάσμα 5 φόρες πιο γρήγορα με blast-beat και ουρλιαχτά. Ακόμα θυμάμαι το live με τους Ballast (Canada) και το πόσο εξουθενωμένος ένοιωθα με ένα συναίσθημα ασφυξίας να διαπερνά την σπονδυλική μου στήλη. Ballast who?

Δυστυχώς, δεν κατάφεραν να κυκλοφορήσουν τίποτα και αυτή η πρόβα απτό μακρινό 2006 είναι το μοναδικό πειστήριο μιας ακόμα καταπληκτικής μπάντας που κλειδώθηκε για πάντα στο χρονοντούλαπο της ιστορίας.

Arnitiki Stasi (Negative Stance) - Aggeloi tou pseudous (Angels of deceit) LP (1993)

I have made this post a long time ago, but the rip (especially the b-side) was a crap, so my good friend 7inchcrust gave me a truly helpful hand with the rip of this LP. He ripped the b-side of his own copy and cut the tracks. So, finally this rip is good (not soooooo clean - the a side, the rip is mine. don't be angry mr.7inch) and you can use it at your favourite dj parties when you want to play tracks like "the fall" in a quality better than the 128kbps. So, from the past come the storms :

Arnitiki stasi (Negative stance) was one of the best greek hardcore punk bands outta greece.

Formed in late 80's, the band appeared in many tape-compilations, both greek and abroad. They have released a split lp with Kismet HC, a 7inch (get it here) on profane existence recs (profane claims that this is on the top-5 releases the label has done since nowadays) and a full-length lp.
This one.

 Released in 1993 from wipe out records this masterpiece of pure energy has 11 tracks of perfect hardcore "the-greek-way" punk. I have said before, I think greece's scene (if you can call it this way) have had one of the most technically accomplished bands around the globe. Mainly influenced by the greek punk bands of early 80's, mixing the heavy (and thrash) metal influences of the late 80's era has given a blend of sounds to be named as catchy, strong, technical, from the heart and finally over the top.

 This release is the most "fast" and angry (and the last) the band ever released. Compared to the previous releases that have more melodic and mid-tempo tunes, this one "take-no-prisoners". Give notice to the excellent drum-works and the catchy-as-hell guitar riffs. Members of arnitiki stasi used to play to Viomihaniki autoktonia (Industrial suicide). Also, makis (bass-player) left the band before the release of this one, to join the forces of anasa stahti (ashen breath).

I don't know how many of you have been isolated for your physical environment, but I can tell you this. If you are nailed in bed with your leg shattered inside a plaster you seek for some reasons to hook on simple daily-life things. Even if you read a neo-noir book of Taibo II (“Ε'ιναι το Λεάντρο ένα όνομα για ξεκώλιαρηδες?”) with some Bulgarians communist revolutionaries dressed up like magicians making a real mess the whole world you can't escape to directly connect them with some killer new band that suddenly came up in your mind (ρε κάτσε να βάλω το demaκι των Conspiracy να το ακούσω, καλά παίξανε τις προάλλες) and this turns to be very annoying, especially when your leg aches.

The band recorded recently 7 tracks for a proper release but due to lack of time and in front of their participation in Arm your Desires fest, they decide to offer a 3 track demo as a cd-r without mastering. The sound nevertheless is above that you can call decent. If you like all that neo-crust haunting style guitars with lyrics preaching the end of the world with glitters of hope through a personal revival dressed up with Schifosi's dress, From ashes rise's maskara and Massmord's αελαινέρ then...the choise is up to you!

My turn - Noble intentions (demo 2010)

So, the time is now for the most boring review of the whole blog-sphere.

Apostolis sent me his band's demo a couple of months ago and i still digging the words to make it through. Here you'll find no nice words.

My turn comes from athens, greece and they play positive hardcore (no, i'm  no kidding... they declare it).

So, in the vein of 7 seconds and with their original name to be Positive Approach, My Turn delivers short-fused hardcore tracks full of of childish freshness (even if they are close to 30).

Add the screams of a young virgin girl and you have the new must of athens city, something like mojito with fresh lime...

Including members of black trinity, dyspnea and terrorismo musical these guys are your new fix for good, old-school dis-core like the "parents" first played.

Pure noise D-Beat in the old Discharge way, but with the reverb,distortion and tremble turned up until the buttons on the amp fall off from overturning!!! (dbill's holy words - sideburn's of the guy are way more punkier than kawakami's). RAW FILTHY PUNX :

常に前進決して後方

Είναι πολύ περίεργο συναίσθημα να  προσπαθήσεις να περιγράψεις τον ήχο ενός συγκροτήματος, το οποίο συμπαθείς και θεωρείς φίλους (τουλάχιστον ένα απ'τά υποκείμενα που το αποτελούν). Θα βάλω τα δυνατά μου.

Μιλώντας συχνά πυκνά με τον Δημήτρη (κιθάρα σε black trinity / Go filth go) δεν μπορώ να κρύψω την συμπάθεια μου προς τη μπάντα και αυτό όχι για μουσικούς λόγους. Νοιώθοντας ότι μοιραζόμαστε κοινά εδάφη, τρόπους επικοινωνίας, ιδεολογικά και πολιτικά πεδία καθώς και αγάπη για την αυτοοργάνωση και την καλή μουσική (θα αφήσω τις ταμπέλες έξω για λίγο) νομίζω πως δε θα είμαι αντικειμενικός με αυτούς τους μπουγατσαδες από το Κοτζι city.

Εδώ, λοιπόν, έχουμε να κάνουμε με την πρώτη κασέτα (ναι, βγαίνουν ακόμα) με τίτλο “no escape from noise dis-truction” που πρόσφατα οι συμπαθέστατοι θεσσαλονικείς κυκλοφόρησαν. Με το τεράστιο πνεύμα τον Confuse να κυριαρχεί αυτά τα νόθα παιδιά του γιαπωνέζου Cal (aka Kawakami) κατάφεραν να ακούγονται φρέσκοι και πολύ δυνατοί. Συνδυάζοντας τα καλύτερα στοιχεία των Discharge, Disclose και Contrast attitude με ολίγη από Disable δηλαδή αυθεντικό “γαμώ-τη-μανά-σου-DBEAT” με κιθάρες πιο βρώμικες και από ένα Morbidangel-ικο βόθρο (γίνεται απλά : παίρνεται το πιο φτηνό guitar-distortion, το πιο φτηνό ενισχυτή των 15 watt και τα βάζετε όλα στο 10 για να μη πω στο 11. Η συνταγή αυτή βρίσκεται επίσης στον πρώτο δίσκο των Entombed. Nicke Anderson’s τσελεμεντές, εκδόσεις Clandestine, έτος 1989.)

Επίσης θέλω να σταθώ στα φωνητικά της μπάντας. Ο man πίσω απτό μικρόφωνο τυχαίνει (?) να έχει τα καλύτερα copy-paste φωνητικά του πλανήτη. Εδώ να υπογραμμίσω ότι το λέω αυτό με θετική χροιά. Ακούγοντας ειδικά τα φωνητικά του με black trinity θεωρώ ότι ούτε ο nocturnο culto μπορεί να κάνει πλέον τόσο καλά τα – ιδία του – τα φωνητικά όποτε καταλαβαίνετε λοιπόν ότι ούτε ο Kawakami (πόσο μάλλον ο Tsoukasa) θα είχε πρόβλημα (μάλλον θα σιγονταρει άπ'τον επουράνιο θρόνο του). Η κασέτα κυκλοφόρησε πρόσφατα και μπορείτε να την βρείτε σε χίλια δυο όμορφα μέρη η να επικοινωνήσετε απευθείας με την μπάντα. Περιέχει 13 κομμάτια "χορευτικού" hardcore με διασκευές σε Discharge και Disclose (πως και έτσι?). Οπότε μη χάνεται χρόνο.

Τέλος, να πω και το παράπονο μου. Έχοντας δει 2 φόρες live τη μπάντα έχω να πω πως παρότι είναι καταπληκτικοί και πολύ δεμένοι, τα set υπερβαίνουν κατά πολύ τη μια ώρα κάτι που κουράζει συνήθως. Μάγκες κάντε κάνα 35 λεπτό set-ακι ώστε ο κοσμάκης να φωνάζει ρυθμικά το όνομα σας (sic) και αφού δε θα κάνετε encore γιατί δεν είστε τίποτα φλορούμπες, θα περιμένει καρτερικά την επόμενη συναυλία……

Disharmonic - A Life Without Regrets

Some weeks ago Apostolis (vocalist of Disharmonic) asked me if I could post their last (and final) album "A life without regrets". Even if I was a little bit thoughtful due to personal issues about diy and the rest (yeah, i'm a little bit stubborn - or just old-school-way-of-thinking-fucker -  and i don't think diy bands must play club and bar shows, but that's an other conversation) i've chosen to post their album mainly due to my class consciousness (apostolis and i work together occasionally, plus he is a good guy). 

Disharmonic started back in 2001 in volos, and they released in their "brief" history two demos ("Kick over the traces" & "Unholy remains"), a mini-cd ("By your side") and this album. In their first steps, these pioneers of the huge volos hardcore scene (let's laugh...) used to play a mixture of hardcore with death metal. While the years pass the sound has changed, more modern hardcore listening i guess. The band have played a lot of shows all around greece and after their hiatus some members formed Ruined families (check out their euro-tour dates), Faithreat and Do something now! (a hell of a straight-edge name, ha?).

Their sound consisting of huge Stampin' ground and (later-) Kafka elements (that's what i listen here) plus some thrashy guitars and you get the picture. Their mid-tempo parts reminds me a lot "A new darkness upon us" from Stampin' ground and i think that's the strong point of the band. When they try to play faster the whole thing gets fucked up. I don't know, maybe it's the sound that i can't stand (full of NYHC stuff) or the drummer isn't dave lombardo, or.... I don't want to be a cruel jerk but this type of hardcore it's for sure not my cup of tea, but on the other hand you can check it out - maybe it's just me.

Abra macabra - Death is certain. Life is not

 Abra macabra was a band created in Athens on January of 2008 and finally disbanded on february of 2010. In their brief history they fonded of the dark and punk/post-punk sound back from the 80's till now. Moreover, Abra Macabra was a DIY band, willingly have chosen to self-organize their sound / word and support similar actions.
 The copy i have on my hands is a "try" of their vocalist (fotis) to release their album (that won't be released as it should be, due to the already mentioned disband) so the tracks not be "lost" in time... 200 copies will be burnt and will be given hand-by-hand at squares, squats and friends in general against commercial shit and profit. If you’re lucky you’ll get one.
All the rest are in (fucking) greek or for (fucking) greeks, so use google (or some type of) translator.

  Όταν πρωτοέβαλα αυτό το cd στο στερεοφωνικό μου, νομίζω το πρώτο συναίσθημα που ένοιωσα ήταν έκπληξη. Έκπληξη γιατί δεν περίμενα ποτέ πως κάποιοι dark-wave ήχοι θα με πόρωναν τόσο ώστε να τους βάλω στο repeat για να συνεχίσω να περιπλανιέμαι στα υπέροχα στενά της κόκκινης Μασσαλίας (βιβλίο του Maurice attia που συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα) ανάμεσα σε σφαίρες που σφυρίζουν και πεζοδρομία που ξηλώνονται κάπου στο μακρινό ’68.
 Σαν τέλειο soundtrack νουαρ μυθιστορήματος οι σκοτεινοί και παραπλανητικοί ήχοι τους είναι σαν ένα απλωμένο χέρι για μια νυχτερινή βόλτα που μόλις ξεκίνησε. Φτιάχνοντας αργά αργά μια ατμοσφαιρα βαναυση – εδώ να σημειωσω πως ο ηχος είναι αρκετα πιο up-tempo απ’το σύνηθες rebound-ικο new-wave το οποίο δουλεύει ιδανικά, τουλάχιστον για μένα – και ταυτόχρονα αδυσώπητη οι macabra σε μεταφέρουν σε πλανά από ταινίες του ν.νικολαιδη. Εκεί που οι καραμπίνες οπλίζονται σε αργά μπλουζ θέματα (παρτε για παραδειγμα το κομματι "mouths"), παρανοϊκά βλέμματα κεντράρουν κάτω από ερωτικά μπλουζ και μαύρες δαντέλες αποδεικνύονται θανατηφόρες.
 Οι στίχοι αποστρέφονται κάθε τι που θυμίζει αυθεντία ρίχνοντας χολή για την κατανάλωση, τους κάθε λογής αφέντες καθώς και τη θρησκεία αλλά ταυτόχρονα αφήνουν και μια προσωπική χροιά και άποψη.
 Μια πάρα-πολύ καλή προσπάθεια από ένα group που δυστυχώς διέλυσε. Ευτυχώς που τα κομμάτια κυκλοφόρησαν έστω και με αυτή τη μορφή αφού θα ήταν κρίμα να χαθούν και αυτά με τη σειρά τους όπως τόσον άλλων συγκροτημάτων.
 Το cd-r θα καεί σε 200 κόπιες και θα μοιράζεται χέρι-χέρι, χωρίς αντίτιμο σε καταλήψεις, στέκια, πλατείες, ανάμεσα σε φίλους και γενικότερα με όλους τους τρόπους που ανταγωνίζονται το θέαμα και το κέρδος.
 Βάλτε ένα ποτήρι κόκκινο-κρασί, και τσεκάρετε την “ύπαρξη της μη-ζωής”.

Naytia - European regeneration LP

This one maybe is already everywhere in the net, but it's not on my blog, so shut up and read carefully (and then listen carefully).
Naytia was the best band ever came outta greece (at least for my own taste). From the ashes of the band aganaktismenoi polites (indignant citizens) these four guys (or three guys and a girl, if you prefer it better) accomplished to create one of the most solid and ear-destroying sounds ever to be named in the tiny geographical limits of the shithole of greece...
The band's first release was a demo back in '88 (six tracks, with two great songs that never released on vinyl). After that, another demo (again with six tracks) and a european tour with chaos u.k with their set in oslo, norway to be released as a tape with the occult title "sex, drugs and greek salad". After that the band released this lp that the majority of the fans consider it their best release. Finally in 1994 a split lp with Graue zellen from germany. They participated in many tape compilations in greece as much as in the famous Whispers double lp (here and here).
So, now that we ended the history lesson let's get to the meat...

April '92 and the greek label Athanati ellhnikh leventia (trans. Immortal greek manliness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), the band's own label releases the lp Europaiki anagennisi (European regeneration). Label's name can be faced as a joke and an ironic description of what greeks think for theirselves.
Mixing the greek punk sound (or the primal-hardcore) of the early 80's scene with european thrash (you can defenetely can listen the Destruction guitar scratching) alongside with great political lyrics that have over-exceed the boring (or surface "touched") punk themes the band made a whole music genre to start thinking more seriously issues like modern-daily life or how the diy thing must "run". Naytia alongside Anasa stahti (Ashen breath) were the first bands that had some political opinions about why a band must-not play in major commercial events, clubs or pubs that others make profit of them. The played mainly in squats and social centres and sold their albums at the price of the cost.

Lyrics referred to topics such as : army, school, the exploitation of animals, jailsystem, human dignity, solidarity and more. The drums are like a machine gun turned onto you while the bass is distorted and heavy and the guitars throw some trully apocalyptic riffs, as for the dual male / female vocals, they work terryfic. The artwork has been made by maria-elektra (r.i.p). i know that i'll go on and on and on if i continue so....

Despite everything - With my bear hands 7'' (2010) & In desperate times 7'' (2009)

Despite everything is hardcore punk band from athens, greece featuring former (or current) members of bands globally known as 925, nekra katsikia trikavalo, schwartz and anger, endsight and censored sound.
Heavily influenced by the us punk rock scene (fucking boring) they have accomplished to refresh a sound, more or less, trivial. Mixing it with stuff like strike anywhere and late-Propagandhi the band has made it. Angry vocals, beautiful lyrics and up-tempo "hard"core music. Great live acts as the "too-tough-judge-Dredd" Dbill agreed in the past. Even if you don't like this type of music they are so uplifting and catchy that you'll defenetily shake your right leg for sure.. Even if i am jealous about how girls look at Peyio i must declare that the band "has it", the "it" for enthousiasm and love for what they're doing. Don't miss them live if you got the chance.
Maybe my description is a little bit misleading but these two seveninches are damn good. Being obsessed for some time now, i choose to post them 'coz the band had them already posted in their myasspace.
They toured for over a month in europe so the band is tight and this is reflected on the wax.
Also the track "prison" is not included in the vinyl version so this is a "plus".
the seveninches comes in recycled paper, has been printed by the band itself with great sepia inks so don't be fool...

Psychosis - Unreleashed cd & "Burial of wrath" demo tape

This one maybe not be the best band's introduction, but it's clearly personal and cathartic, that's how it's going :

The first time that my ear listened to the claustrofobic tunes of psychosis i was nearly 13 years old. Over 10 years has passed and everytime i'm putting that cassete - that my cousin has recorded for me back in the great tape-trading era of the late 90's. Yeah, i know. i was a little kid! - on my cassette-player i'm feeling the same terrifying emotions roll my body like it's the first time. Back in the day to have miserable band-names - here in greece - was a "must", maybe nowadays some of them seem a litlle bit naive and childish, but when i was a little kid i was afraid to put some of them in my cassette player (maybe the fear of dragons come out and eat me, i don't know) psychosis included.

I know that you're already laughing (especially if you are among the lucky bastards that have seen them play live and the usual stuff).
Ψυχωση (Psychosis) started back in 1993 in a suburb of athens, greece. They have released a demo tape called "burial of wrath" and have been a part of the legendary greek vinyl comp. "Disturbance of domestic peace".
They had scheduled the release of a cd that never came out (urban legend says that they will release it some day soon, 'coz the original tapes of the recording has been founded at last).

The cd has 8 tracks of Amebix / Axegrinder worshipping crust. Has been recorded somewhere in 1997 and i think these tracks are from the same session with the two tracks from the above mentioned comp.Guitars scissor ears with catchy and destroying riffs, while the drums keeps everything in place before the bass follows and destroy it. Heavy, mid-tempo hardcore / crust by one of the best bands ever (for me, globally)
Psychosis has written some of the best lyrics that i have ever read (and it's a shame that has not been translated) for the rotting hardcore scene, the alienation of human society and our power to change things. Some songs are untitled and with no vocals, but for me that's fine. I hope this cd someday to be released properly.

The "burial of wrath" demo tape has been recorded some years earlier, has more harsh production and the bass it's up to 11, but the quality of the tracks leaves no time to think about it, 'coz you'll press the "repeat all" button after the first listening. Now, that i'm thinking it again, you'll propably burn it on a cd - both files - and you'll listen it for one month straight in every place you'll be.

If an album has the "highly recommended" stamp, it's this one.
Their bassist nowadays plays for the post-rock band incognita sperans.

Schwartz and anger - II

Under the sickening moonlight of the Athenian night, these four wolves had team-up their forces to deliver a blistering combination of insane riffing crust mayhem alongside fast drum-part-changes turning into hot and erotic grindcore (to be more specific they think that they play grind, something that exists only in their wet-fantasies).
Schwartz and anger was a band that it’s reason of existence was to terrorize, to “speak” to the open-minded or to try to create groundbreaking field, to play extreme music and to communicate their own manifesto (if you can call a living part of four different individuals as a manifesto).

Having experienced the sludgy and dirty culture of the greek d.i.y. hardcore punk scene, Schwartz’s members decided to distribute by themselves their first album and not to sell it as the classical “rules” orders (despite the negative comments that they received), in an against-merchandise, against-"selling and buying" ideology (anyone could give anything that he wanted, without paying a standard price).
The band has chosen to create a great piece of “art”, if you can call art something like this, and I don’t mean any type of alternative, sterile and in the end, dead piece of commercialization, but an alive, energetic and interactive power of thinking and acting…
Members of Schwartz and anger has been playing – formerly or currently – in the following bands : antimob, avgrund livet, boktorva bhq, 925, atopia, despite everything, nekra katsikia trikavalo and nata (hip-hop!!!) so their experience made their skill a weapon, a well-sharpened knife that keeps turning-around making your mind bleeding.
As a band they managed to establish their own unique footprint mainly of their beastie, unleashing-hell live performances.
You may already know that I am a blood-sucker for the Schwartz’s tunes, and I consider them – maybe - the best greek live performing-act that I have ever seen. Their energy acts as a cathartic pressure valve – in a good way.
Even now I cannot recall any influences from other bands, and not ‘cos there aren’t any but mainly ‘cos these guys managed to make it sounding so unique and “their stuff”. In this album (II) all the hard-work has been made by their guitarist G. Riffs, bridges and lyrics has been written by him and after tones (lol) of rehearsals the other members contributed their magic.
Lyric themes work as a vomiting, disgusting poison against consumerism in modern societies and in modern life in general, against state and capital(ism), but in a personal way of express. The album starts where the previous album (get it here) ends. The band screams it’s lungs out the lyric-phrase “η το τέλος της αρχής…” (Trans: or the end of the beginning…) before a vicious assault of constantly-changing riffs bites your carotid, ice-breaking tempos grab you from the neck, and the feeling of nausea diffuses in every inch of your body.
This album has not as many blast-beats as the previous one but the fast chugga-chugga parts make you wanna chop-off your head. The post-rockish leading riffs create different tone-colours. The relaxing soundscapes soon turns out to be a nightmarish soundtrack that only a pervert could compose.
Reading an interview of the band on a fanzine some time ago, when the guy asked them: “if Schwartz and anger was a machine, what type of machine would be?” the answer was: “Schwartz and anger would probably be a machinery of minced on wheels”. And “what type of food would be?” the friendly journalist continued. “For sure Schwartz would be a burnt food, ‘cos it’s black (Schwartz) and make you feel angry when you eat it”. I agree!
I’m very proud to post this awesome band, after taking the permission of the (half) band.
Let's see if db-ill has the guts to judge the band that he does vocals and plays bass-satanist-guitar.
No guts - No glory, my dear friend.
