Proxy - Police car 7''

Sometimes it's so hard to find the correct words to describe something, a feeling, a movie or even a song and some of these times is happening right now as i'm writing this boring words trying to make 'em something worth paying attention to it. And still, i can't find the proper words. As my pal D. did a brilliant review for a "blog" about Proxy's first album "Something we've all seen before" i've chosen to review the band's latest - the third - release called "Police car". The self titled track have been also part of the mind-blowing first demo of the band two years ago and i have to confess the demo's version was more raw and ugly than this one. The band i think tried to put out a 7'' full of rock'n'roll influences blending the ultra powerfull UK82 style ala Blitz (first era), Varukers or/and GBH (and a little bit of Infa-Riot??? listen the track "Schackled to a corpse" from their 12'' and you'll see) with heavily Motorhead influenced parts and as a result this release tends to by more "funny" and ass-kicking in a good way. "Fountain of Youth" is my favourite track and you can think of me pogo-ing my self while yelling WE DON'T GIVE A SHIT, ANYWAY. Too many good albums and seveninches lately guys, and i can't afford to buy them all, so now you know what i want for a gift for my birthaday. Released by DiscosMMM, go grab it.

No Problem - Living in the void 7''

When No Problem released "And now This" lp, i was too cool to give a damn although a bunch of friends expressed their belief that (the word that seems to be my favourite word lately) these canadians from Edmonton is one of the few really a-class hardcore-punk bands out there. I didn't take the bait, as i've done with Hoax and other great bands that had no appeal to me. And for sure, i was so deadly wrong about them and i explain : their above mentioned LP is by far the most played album lately in my car and their third ep called "Living in the void" is equally good. The self titled track goes on with one and only riff that stays in your head forever while the vocal changes make you wanna sing so LOUDDD. In the end, is this the magic of punk or what? Three chords, a lot of ungry voices and fists in the air. Yep, that is Punk, and No Problem trully delivers. "What have i become" is somewhere betwwen "enemies", "paranoid times" or "r'n'r deathcamp" and "Happy family" make me think of Ramones playing hardcore....

Hassler - self titled 7''

Hassler comes from toronto, canada and they are really good. What else can you except from a drummer that wears an ENTOMBED shirt and a bassist on a RAZOR shirt? The dudes have to enjoy the good old metal. Now, to the point. Hassler done the simple trick. Simple, short and raging tracks thrashing up the whole place. They had compared to Carrer Suicide and Double Negative and that's no coincedence, bro. A solid 7'' that needs your attention

Haggatha & Hibernation @ Kalidromiou 94

14/09/2012

My dear diary,
I had the honour to be in kalidromiou 94 basement that silly and so prospective night of our beloved september. You know, i didn't had the chance to see Eternal Hated cause i told my self "what the fuck name is that? i don't like metalcore names". I met sarabante twins and we had some drinks, while Haggatha guys ruled the stage with their theatric, traumatic and heavily dizzed stoner/sludgecore the way we used to like it back in early 00's, with a mascot for a drummer that i cut off my hands he was playing on "life of Brian" by Monty Pythons.

And then, ohhh my beloved diary. Then came Hibernation. As we say hell on earth. They were crucial, like they enjoyed every fucking second of their set, with he crowd - packed as in a human furniture - going nuts, with endless singalongs and fists in the air and some pogo and more sing along and so much feeling, with the canadians sludgers to delivering the goods "best band we saw live". Hibernation alive and kicking. Big hugs to Worlds appreciatice kitsch and Nick "the huge" Pale for the great photos. That's all for tonight my beloved diary. I kiss you, goodnight.

Burning Love - demo 7''

I woke up this morning and i was chatting with my good friend vas about the phenomenon band Burning Love. For those who may not know, Burning Love - the name is taken from the famous Elvis Presley song - consists of the huge Chris Colohan who has offered the hardcore / punk community some of the most hateful, clever, salty, pepper, provocative, political through personal lyrics mainly as a singer of the colossus band Cursed, and Our Father members bassist Dave O'Connor, guitarists Pat Marshall and Andrus Meret, and drummer Easton Lannaman. So, the conversation was going somehow like this:
-V: Do you know Burning Love?
-M: I'll kill you, you messing with me.
-V: Their lp shreds...
-M: Their lp is shit, is that "songs for burning lovers" name for an album? And the sound is really shitty.
-V: I'm talking about "Rotten things to say".
-M: I'll check it
Something that i never did, because when you have a certain opinion about a band and the things you like to hear in certain situations and mind conditions. So, i picked up my own copy of their first demo back from 2009 - released in a 7'' format through Deranged records - and put it on the turntable. Fuck man, "lives of the saints" what a fucking anthem , or that "alien vs. creditor" snake type of a riff, or the badass cover to Battalion of Saints (BL does not fear to do crazy covers, check "Jack the ripper" a cover of Nick Cave and the bad seeds) or everything in the end. Sound is perfectly dirty, Colohan is on top form, the band kills and i don't want to listen anything else from this band. Do yourselves a favor and buy it.

Chokehold - 1995 - Content with dying

Is that really anything to be spoken about this album? Low-tuned, heavy-weight, straight edge and fucking political. This canadian band have been one of the most influential of all time in the hardcore scene with their anti-religious, anti-homophobic and alimal/earth liberation lyrics. If you don't know them please check them out and if you do know them pay respect (a. i'm waiting a review of Trial's "are these our lives").

"They have us fooled reaching for the amerikkkan dream. Trapped in the 9-5 its like swimming upstream. Do as they tell you forethought is bound to fail. We are dying and no one seems to care. To busy rushing to a go no-where career. You think you're free? You just cant see the bars. we're all in prison in these free countries of ours. Your not free, you never were."

Members went on to play in such bands as The Swarm, Brutal Knights, Left for Dead, Haymaker, Our War and Seventy-Eight Days.

IRE - I discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice

On the last masakari's album we can find a song under the title "pain convicted as a tool", perhaps the verb convicted may not be the right one but the canadian powerhouse that combines the three letters IRE is the true description of how the human mind can create or describe a painfull atmosphere. Ladies and gentlemen, from '97 comes the vocabulary of grief, the mighty "I discern an overtone of tragedy in your voice".

Members of IRE have been or still are on famous bands of the canadian scene such as: Cursed, The black hand, Land of Kush and Cobra noir. Not bad at all, huh?

Ire delivers four tracks in more than 24 minutes, mixing the technical hardcore and enmocore of the mid-90's scene aka Catharsis with ultra sink(y) parts, the guitars are deep inside shit, the mind that came up with that riffs is deadly ill while some black metallic blast beats creates a nightmarish environment. Have in mind that we are in '97 and still bands have something to say (i can't understand why people are so impressed with bands like Light Bearer and the other boring kind).

I made an arrangement with bat from fugitive equilibrium to make a short tribute to IRE so here you can find the split with seized and their self titled 7''. He will also post their other Lp "What seed, What Root?".

The Fallout - Dismantlement

I woke up this morning with the tunes of this great canadian band ringing in my ears, so i give you some good old surfing punk rock. And that's coz i can't post again Rajahtaa's demo cd-r.
While i was searching some new bands on the web i came across a very good radio-show from canada, called equalizing-x-distort, where the guy behind the mic played all the tracks from the fucking rajahtaa demo. At last some greek band gets some notice outside greece. In his "show" i saw that he posted a band called The Fallout and i got a flash-back "somehow i know that bastards'. So, getting my head clear i remembered that this band is the same one with the band that have been impressed me a while back. They have been part of two cd-r(s) the magazine Profane Existence gave with the mag. Tracks like "peace, love, anarcgy" and "compassion over killing" made me dance on my bedroom like i am a 15 years old boy that now comes across - for first time - with bands like the Adverts, dead kennedys, Magazine or Blitz. Yep, Fallout combines all the great melodic parts of the early uk punk bands with very good - to the point - lyrics and some hints of modern us punk rock (reminds occasionaly anti-flag or pennywise but in a good way - trust me). This album was released back in 2007 and i think it's their fourth full lenght and their final release. Yeah this is punk-rock to the bone and this is my new week's soundtrack.

p.s. i got some goodies from the 7inchcrust mastermind and i'll post'em in the next few days. cheers on...

Nightbringer - Inhale, the night begins 7'' (2010)

Just get home from my best friend's birthday party. Everything was fucking awesome. beer as well as wine runs in my veins. As i opened the door and pressed the pc-button i realised that i have a fucking gift. Drock from the canadian bulldozer called System Shit (check them here and here) sent me the new 7'' of canada's japunks Nightbringer released this year on Chris Colohan's (yep, Cursed fame) label High Anxiety records. I'm so fucking excited.
Motorhead meets Bastard. Can you call this life?
Here we have, ann arbor's nightbringer - consisting of Ruination, Earthmover and Life set struggle members among others - that offer us three raging hardcore hymns in the vein of their first demo but with more (or less.hahahah i'm drunk) japanese elements. Imagine judgement plays like Warcry. D-beat mania for the wicked. The second song is a fucking killer that starts with all that cliche motor engine (BIKES SOUND - JULIA’s 1984 HONDA VF500F and IAN’s 2003 KAWASAKI Z1000) giving heads to a great rock'n'roll riff, fucking reverbed vocals and a bass-guitar like a five-speed fueled engine. Something like Burning Leather αλλα φουλ πιο αλητεια. Yes, they play both kinds of rock n roll...fast and loud, indeed. The sound is great, dirty and punky as it should be - Chris Colohan made a great job as producer - and if you like i can upload also their previous demo that is solid as hell but i know that you now found your new fix, one way or another, you have to ask for it. Finally, if i have a statement, this propably is :
INHALE, THE NIGHT BEGINS...

"I stormed the gates of heaven
And found their god was gone
Despite all those converted
By the sword and by the crown"
