Been binging on the documentaries lately, all of which will now be posted over here http://www.dailymotion.com/dai-flu Don't worry I'll get back to the music and stuff soon. Thought I'd post this one here what with everyone reliving WWI this year and all; I like the politics of war more than the battles themselves. "The trauma of the First World War gives Europe no appetite for any further conflicts, but within the subsequent two decades the world would return to rearmament and militarism. The Paris Peace Conference introduced the concept of self-determination, leading to the establishment of Czechoslovakia, Poland and Yugoslavia from the former Central Powers. The League of Nations is established to assist in resolving international disputes in an open environment, but fails to receive strong support and is eventually proven impotent in preventing Italy's conquest of Ethiopia. Despite a public push for disarmament, prompted by All Quiet on the Western Front and other reminders of the First World War, few countries make any serious moves. French and British demands for heavy war reparations lead to Germany's economic ruin, but this and other unforeseen consequences of the Treaty of Versailles would result in the emergence of Adolf Hitler. As Germany begins to absorb its neighbours, the rest of Europe mobilises, and the moral utility of pacifism is questioned. The introductory scene shows Armistice Day. Interviewees include Lord Soper."

Teams: Australia Kangaroos v New Zealand Kiwis Venue: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia. Capacity 52,500 Date: Saturday October 25th 2014 TV: Game shown on Channel 9 with Telecast beginning at 7.30pm Sydney time. Kick-off time: 6.30pm local time Australia defeated New Zealand in the 2013 RLWC Final and again in the mid-year ANZAC test in 2014. The Kangaroos will be looking to do the same in their first match of the tournament. The Kangaroos have a team of stars and will be playing in front of a packed house at home. All indications point to a convincing win to the Australian's but they did get ambushed at the same venue in the 2010 Four Nations Final. The Kiwis ran out 16 - 12 winners that day. The Kangaroos will be on their guard for their opening Four Nations match. The Kiwis put in a disappointing showing in the 2013 RLWC against Australia. This forced Coach Kearney's hand for the mid-season ANZAC test where he picked a host of new players. The Kiwis will be looking to put their best possible team on the park for the Four Nations tournament. The Bookies will write the Kiwis off but taking on Australia first up will be the best time to spring an upset.

This is the opening game of the 2005 Tri-Nations rugby league competition at Telstra Stadium, Sydney. The Kiwis entered the match after a disappointing 2004 campaign, under the stewardship of inexperienced coach Brian McClennan and weakened by injuries to upcoming stars like Benji Marshall and Sonny Bill Williams. Stacey Jones was playing in what he planned to be his second-to-last test match and the side was captained by Ruben Wiki. The Kangaroos were looking to build on their 2004 Tri-Nations triumph and 2005 Anzac test success, buoyed by the legendary pairing of Lockyer and Johns in the halves, and Golden Boot winner Anthony Minichiello at fullback. Teams: New Zealand: 1 Brent Webb, 2 Jake Webster, 3 Paul Whatuira, 4 Clinton Toopi, 5 Manu Vatuvei, 6 Nigel Vagana, 7 Stacey Jones, 8 Paul Rauhihi, 9 Lance Hohaia, 10 Ruben Wiki (c), 11 David Kidwell, 12 Frank Pritchard, 13 Louis Anderson Interchange: 14 David Faiumu, 15 Roy Asotasi, 16 Nathan Cayless, 17 David Solomona, Coach: Brian McClennan Australia: 1 Anthony Minichiello, 2 Timana Tahu, 3 Brent Tate, 4 Mark Gasnier, 5 Matt King, 6 Darren Lockyer (c), 7 Andrew Johns, 8 Petero Civoniceva, 9 Danny Buderus, 10 Steve Price, 11 Luke O'Donnell, 12 Craig Fitzgibbon, 13 Ben Kennedy Interchange: 14 Jason Ryles, 15 Andrew Ryan, 16 Trent Waterhouse, 17 Craig Gower, Coach: Wayne Bennett Referee: Steve Ganson (England)
Having each comfortably accounted for Great Britain, New Zealand and Australia met in the Tri-Nations rugby league final of 1999 at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland. The Kiwis had held onto a narrow lead to win the opening game of the series but came into the final with one crucial absentee: Stacey Jones, who had broken his arm in New Zealand’s match against Tonga. Australia was strengthened from the opening encounter by the inclusion of Andrew Johns, as well as better selections that saw Darren Lockyer start at fullback and Darren Smith in the centres. Teams: NEW ZEALAND: 1. Richie Barnett; 2. Nigel Vagana; 3. Ruben Wiki; 4. Willie Talau; 5. Leslie Vainikolo; 6. Henry Paul; 7. Robbie Paul; 8. Joe Vagana; 9. Richard Swain; 10. Craig Smith; 11. Matt Rua; 12. Stephen Kearney; 13. Logan Swann. Substitutes: Gene Ngamu; Jason Lowrie; Nathan Cayless; David Kidwell. Coach: Frank Endacott. AUSTRALIA: 1. Darren Lockyer; 2. Mat Rogers; 3. Interactive videoconferencing program presented by President Woodrow Wilson House - Washington, D.C., a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Presidential Primary Sources Project is a collaboration between the National Park Service, U.S. Presidential Libraries and Museums, other cultural and historic organizations, and the Internet2 community. Program Description: Woodrow Wilson and the League of Nations Grades 9-12 Woodrow Wilson served as our 28th President from 1913 to 1921, a time of great challenges and changes regarding civil and human rights. President Wilson received the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership in establishing the League of Nations at the end of World War I. The establishment of the League of Nations laid the foundation for the modern vision of global human rights. However, The League of Nations generated controversy. After a great national debate, ultimately the United States decided not to join the League. Only after World War II was the United States persuaded to join the United Nations, the successor to the League of Nations. The Wilson era saw many other events that affected civil and human rights, including the growth of the American labor movement, the institutionalization of racial segregation, the “Great Migration" of agricultural workers from the South to Northern cities, the restriction of civil rights during WWI, and the assimilation of a large and varied immigrant population. In his time, President Wilson framed many of the questions about civil and human rights that our nation continues to address today.

The Independent 2014-03-26The League of Nations (abbreviated LON in English, and SDN in its other official languages), was an intergovernmental organization founded as a result of the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War. It was the first permanent international organisation whose principal mission was to maintain world peace. Its primary goals, as stated in its Covenant, included preventing wars through collective security and disarmament, and settling international disputes through negotiation and arbitration. Other issues in this and related treaties included labour conditions, just treatment of native inhabitants, human and drug trafficking, arms trade, global health, prisoners of war, and protection of minorities in Europe. At its greatest extent from 28 September 1934 to 23 February 1935, it had 58 members. Many of which left towards the end.
The diplomatic philosophy behind the League represented a fundamental shift from the preceding hundred years. The League lacked its own armed force and depended on the Great Powers to enforce its resolutions, keep to its economic sanctions, or provide an army when needed. However, the Great Powers were often reluctant to do so. Sanctions could hurt League members, so they were reluctant to comply with them. When, during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, the League accused Italian soldiers of targeting Red Cross medical tents, Benito Mussolini responded that "the League is very well when sparrows shout, but no good at all when eagles fall out."
