VO The most recent survey data show that Laos still ranks high in terms of child mortality INTRO: The most recent survey data show that Laos has achieved the previously set national MDG target for under-five mortality rate of 80 per 1,000 live births and can now set a more ambitious target for 2015. However, Laos still ranks amongst those countries with the highest under-five mortality rate in the region, STORY: According to the recent survey, to achieve the child mortality targets that are more ambitious, Laos needs to continue its current reduction rate of more than 4 percentage points a years. This will require tackling significant challenges. The health expert explained that most child deaths in Laos are due to preventable and treatable conditions. An increasing number of children in Laos now have access to high impact child survival interventions (such as immunisation and oral rehydration therapy) known to be effective in reducing child deaths and childhood diseases. Implementing these high impact, low-cost interventions could reduce two-thirds of child deaths. Laos shows good progress on some interventions but overall, the coverage is still low. The greatest challenge will be to ensure sustainable and predicable financing for maternal, neonatal and child health services. Another challenge will be to strengthen clinical and management capacity and develop better supply and logistics management systems. There are several opportunities for accelerating progress towards national targets for the under-five mortality rate and infant mortality rate. First, Laos has good overall policies that aim at expanding child survival interventions and reducing inequities in health services utilisation among different groups. Second, the health reforms prioritise the expansion of high impact, low-cost interventions to reach the MDGs. Large scale implementation will be needed so that these interventions reach high levels of population coverage. Finally, Laos’ steady economic growth provides growing fiscal space, which would allow an increase in the national budget allocation for recent costs. This should be sufficient to cover vaccines, other essential supplies and the functioning of primary health care facilities, including health outreach services. However, to achieve the target by 2015, under-five mortality rate should be 70 per 1,000 live births and the infant mortality rate should be 45 per 1,000 live births.

VO A recent report from the Ministry of Energy and Mines reveals Lao mining sector eyes larger output INTRO: A recent report from the Ministry of Energy and Mines reveals that production in the mining sector is expected to increase in value this fiscal year, though the slump in the global ore price is still reflected in Laos' mining output. STORY: The ministry's report states that production in the mining sector is expected to increase in value to about 14.785 trillion kip in fiscal year 2014-15. The growth rate will be about 12.66 percent more than last fiscal year, the report noted. To achieve this goal, the ministry reported that the sector will have to produce larger quantities of important ores. Target figures include include 24.88 tonnes of mixed gold and silver ore, 91,600 tonnes of copper ingot, 350,000 tonnes of copper ore, 470,000 tonnes of potash ore, 1,200 tonnes of lead ore, and 600,000 tonnes of gypsum. But a current downturn in the world ore price caused the output value of the Lao mining sector to drop by almost 9 percent in the 2013-14 fiscal year compared to the previous year. The ministry reported, output in the mining sector fell by 8.88 percent. The sharp drop in production value in the mining sector in 2013-14 was largely caused by the cessation of gold mining at the MMG LXML Sepon gold and copper plant, when it was impacted by the falling global ore price. Another significant factor was the stoppage of production at the Viengphoukha coal mine in Luang Namtha province when the concession agreement ended. The slump in ore prices affected gold, potash and copper, and no new mining ventures replaced the lost production. The gold price began falling in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal year 2012-13, dropping to US$1,200 - US$1,300 per ounce, and significantly impacted gold production in Laos. The mining sector produced about 30.01 tonnes of gold and silver in 2013-14 – an increase of 36.8 percent on 2012-13, but the market price dropped by about 29.15 percent. Both local companies and overseas investors operate mines in Laos, including investors from Asean countries. As of September this year, there were 69 companies operating 107 mining projects on a total area of 274,663 hectares in Laos, the ministry's report noted. Mining operations fall into two main groups: one group excavates ore and processes it. This group comprises 50 companies operating gold, copper, coal, lead, potassium and gypsum mines. Companies in the other group are preparing to begin excavation and the construction of processing factories. This group comprises 19 companies who will operate gold mines in Vientiane, Attapeu and Borikhamxay provinces.

VO Elephants to make 630km trek from Xayaboury to Luang Prabang INTRO: The government and provincial authorities from Xayaboury and Luang Prabang together with the Elephant Conservation Centre plan to organise an elephant caravan to mark the 20th anniversary of Luang Prabang's World Heritage status in December. STORY: Based on the success of other elephant events (the elephant caravan in 2010 and the elephant festivals held from 2007-2012), the caravan will journey 630km from Paklai district in Xayaboury province to Luang Prabang province. Sebastien Duffillot is the co-founder of ElefantAsia, the Elephant Conservation Centre and the Elephant Festival in Laos and Regional Programme Manager for Southeast Asia for “Des Eléphants et des Hommes”. In 2002, Sebastien travelled 1.300 km with four elephants between Champassak and Luang Prabang provinces in Laos' first ever Elephant Caravan. According to the Elephant Conservation Centre, the outward and return legs of the trek itself will take place from November 30 to December 17, while an elephant parade and performances will take place in Luang Prabang from December 7-10 to celebrate the town's World Heritage status (1995-2015), The centre is now looking for partners from the private and public sectors to participate in this event. The elephant caravan and associated shows promise to be one of the largest cultural events in Laos this year. The project combines an elephant trek across rural and urban Laos with educational and conservation activities for village children. It concludes in an artistic and cultural festival celebrating Luang Prabang's 20 years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caravan and the cultural festival will be organised by the provinces of Luang Prabang and Xayaboury, in partnership with the Elephant Conservation Centre, with the support of the French NGO ‘Des Eléphants et des Hommes' and the Lao-based ‘Community Learning International'. There are only 900 elephants left in Laos, a country once known as the ‘Land of a Million Elephants'. If the current trend continues the elephant, the earth's largest land mammal, will completely disappear from Lao forests within the next 50 years. The elephants will march across the length of Xayaboury province, an area known as the cradle of ‘Lao elephant culture'. The province shelters 75 percent of the current national elephant population. The march symbolises a call for help from Lao elephants to the citizens and governing bodies of Laos. The caravan will be accompanied by theatrical and musical performers as well as educational staff, making it a kind of multi-cultural roadshow. As the caravan stops in each village, there will be daily public performances to engage local residents and educate children about elephant conservation. The story will revolve around the elephant, as an ambassador of biodiversity and cultural diversity, of the cultural heritage of Laos and the biological heritage of humanity. Because the elephant is both an endangered ‘keystone' species in its ecosystem and a revered living emblem of the Lao nation, the Elephant Conservation Centre is using this event to pay tribute to the elephant and promote Laos as an environmentally friendly tourist destination. The arrival of the elephants in villages in Xayaboury and Luang Prabang provinces is an opportunity to send an educational message to young people and their parents. The aim of the project is to raise public awareness, both in Laos and internationally, about the threats to the Asian elephant and to the rainforest, its natural environment.

VO Laos and Vietnam agree to provide more support to investors in terms of legal and administrative formalities INTRO: Laos and Vietnam agreed to provide more support to investors in terms of legal and administrative formalities during the 37th meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Inter-governmental Committee, which took place in Hanoi on Wednesday 21st of January STORY: The meeting was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Sub-Committee, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and his Lao counterpart, Somsavat Lengsavad The Lao delegation said their government will consider approving land leases for licensed projects for rubber tree and industrial plant development. On the political front, both sides will work to realise commitments made by their leaders while proposing essential mechanisms and policies. They will also accelerate the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos cooperation strategy from 2011 to 2020, an agreement on Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the Lao provinces of Huaphan and Xieng Khuang until 2020, and the 2011-2015 cooperation agreement. In trade, Vietnamese and Lao goods will continue to be entitled to preferential export-import tariffs. Business communities will be apprised of any available tax incentives and receive support in border customs clearance. The two sides also agreed that a plan for building markets along the Vietnam-Laos border, to run until 2020, must also be carried out. Concluding the meeting, both sides signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation for 2015 on behalf of their two governments. The outcome of the meeting is seen as a boost to trade and investment between the two neighbours. It was reported previously that the two countries have set a target to increase Vietnamese investment in Laos to US$5.8 billion in 2015, an increase on the current total value of about US$5 billion. Laos has so far granted investment licences to 413 Vietnamese projects with a combined capitalisation of around US$5 billion, making Vietnam the second largest investor in Laos after China. Bilateral trade value between Vietnam and Laos in the first nine months of 2014 reached US$995 million, with bilateral trade expected to reach US$1.4 billion for the entire year. Total trade value between the two countries is expected to reach US$2 billion in 2015, according to a recent report in the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam (Vietnam Economic Times) newspaper. Vietnamese-invested projects in Laos have helped the country increase revenue collection, boost economic growth, and generate about 300,000 jobs.

VO Laos-Myanmar Friendship Bridge set to open in August INTRO: The Laos-Myanmar Friendship Bridge linking northern Laos with Myanmar across the Mekong River is set to open officially in early May – ahead of the original plan slated for August. STORY: Deputy Prime Minister Prime Minister Dr Bounpone Bouttanavong, who is in charge of the macro-economic and service sectors led officials visit the construction site of Laos-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in the northern Lao province of Luang Namtha. Construction work on the US$26 million project, which began early in 2013, is set to complete by August. The bridge is built across the Mekong River, linking Thakhelek district in the Shan State of Myanmar and Luang Namtha province in Laos. Built with a two-lane motorway, the bridge will be capable of accepting vehicles with a maximum gross weight of 75 tons and it can withstand earthquakes of up to 7.0 on the Richter scale. Once opened for public service, the bridge is expected to significantly boost trade, investment and tourism between the two neighbours, whose current volume of trade is still low compared to other neighbouring countries. Through the bridge, officials said the two countries will see smooth and speedy road transport contributing towards a swift flow of commodities, driving economic development. The bridge is a joint investment by the Lao and Myanmar governments. The Laos-Myanmar bridge is 691.6 metres long and 10.9 metres wide. So far, four friendship bridges have been built across the Mekong River linking Laos and neighbouring Thailand, with the bridges having reportedly caused a remarkable increase in two-way trade volume and tourism visits.

VO Direct charter flights between Laos and Russia could take the two countries’ relationship to new heights INTRO: Direct flights could take Lao-Russia relationship to new heights. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Laos, Mikhail Baranov, said flights from Vladivostok on Russia's Pacific coast could help facilitate package tours bringing greater numbers of visitors from the nation to Laos as well as Cambodia and Vietnam. STORY: The proposal was among key points outlined in a wide-ranging briefing on current and future prospects for bilateral cooperation held at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vientiane. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Laos, Mikhail Baranov, said flights from Vladivostok on Russia's Pacific coast could help facilitate package tours bringing greater numbers of visitors from the nation to Laos as well as Cambodia and Vietnam. He said adding that, Direct flights between our countries would facilitate development, trade and tourism expansion, so we are considering the plan. He also said both Lao and Russian governments w ere preparing to implement mutual short-stay visa exemptions for citizens. The Ambassador also sought to highlight outstanding achievements in the expansion of cooperation between the two countries over the past 12 months, and referred to long-standing strategic cooperation. He said collaboration between Laos and Russia had been rejuvenated in the recent years after a lull following the collapse of Soviet Union. The Russian Culture Centre in Vientiane was closed in late 1998 due to the country's economic difficulties at the time. The Russian Science and Culture Centre recommenced operations in Vientiane in late 2013. The centre, in cooperation with the Lao National University, and the Russky Mir or Russian World Foundation are about to establish a Russky Centre in Laos. Russian government scholarships provided to Lao students have also increased in the period since. The ambassador also discussed the potential to boost trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, particularly increasing volume of exports from Laos to Russia. He also highlighted Russian investments in mining and the plans for development of a special economic zone in Vangtao, Champassak province. Trade and investment between Russia and Laos has been increasing in line with development of the hydropower and telecommunications sectors.
VO Laos and Vietnam launch a single-stop and single window inspection system at the Lao Bao-Dansavanh border checkpoint INTRO: Laos and Vietnam officially launched a single-stop and single window inspection system at the Lao Bao-Dansavanh border checkpoint to facilitate trade between the two countries and along the East-West Economic Corridor. STORY: The launch took place after the two countries had piloted the system at the border of Laos' Savannakhet province and Vietnam's Quang Tri province. Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic affairs, specifically the production and circulation of goods, Somsavat Lengsavad, and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other officials cut a ribbon to inaugurate the system. It is said that, the launch will encourage countries to expand the model to other international checkpoints along the East-West Economic Corridor, as part of the Cross-Border Transport Agreement in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The 1,450-kilometre East-West Economic Corridor connects four countries in the GMS and is strategically significant to economic development and poverty reduction in both Laos and Vietnam. A single window allows trading partners to declare imports and exports when transiting to and from their countries at only one service point. Laos and Vietnam have set an ambitious target to increase Vietnamese investment in Laos to US$5.8 billion in 2015, an increase on the current total value of about US$5 billion.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of Cathay United Bank Chen Tsui Pei said the presence of the bank signals the first Taiwanese bank in Laos and it is also set to support the rapid growth of the Lao economy by bringing more investors from Taiwan. He said, the bank has the largest banking network among Taiwan's private banks, however the overseas expansion was established worldwide, including in America, Mainland China, Hong Kong and some Asean countries Dr Somphao Phaysith said the presence of Cathay United Bank in Laos is on right track due to the country's economic environment adding that, this was a significant moment for commercial banking competition in Laos as the bank will serve as a bridge for bringing investors from Taiwan to Laos. It is said that, the Lao economy has experienced robust growth in the recent years and the rate of economic growth was above 8 percent Laos, which is higher than mainland China and Taiwan. Laos is widely witnessed by investors all over the world after the country has become a member of the World Trade Organisation in early 2013,” the Chairman of Cathay United Bank, disclosed saying that the inauguration of the bank represents a strong interest in the Lao market. Investment in special economic zones tops US$1 billion: More than 100 companies have invested in the country's 10 special and specific economic zones (SEZs), with the value amounting to over US$1 billion, creating about 8,000 jobs. Deputy Minister and Vice President of the Lao National Committee for Special Economic Zones, Madame Bouatha Khattiya, said SEZ development and management is new in Laos and an SEZ development model is still lacking so the relevant sectors need to ensure that SEZ development is based on a sound strategy from now until 2020. The developers of the 10 SEZs initially required more than US$4 billion to install the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the inflow of investment.
VO Government officials and development partners to assess Laos' economic progress and investment potential. INTRO: Government officials and development partners to assess Laos' economic progress and investment potential. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Dr Phankham Viphavanh, worker development was of prime importance for the overall development of Laos. STORY: The issue of worker development was highlighted for debate in Vientiane at a meeting of government officials and development partners to assess Laos' economic progress and investment potential. Speaking at the Lao Development Report and Investment Climate Assessment meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Dr Phankham Viphavanh said worker development was of prime importance for the overall development of Laos. Dr Phankham noted that Laos had seen many achievements in its development efforts but there were still some problems, one of which was the slow development of human resources. World Bank Country Manager in the Lao PDR Ms Sally Burningham said that fueled by rapid growth in the hydro and mining sectors, the Lao economy is growing fast. However, it is not generating a lot of jobs. The World Bank reported that the growing Lao economy needs to diversify beyond its natural resource base to create more jobs and improve the business environment for foreign and domestic investors. The existence of more workers presents an opportunity for growth but only if productive, income-generating jobs are created and workers have the skills needed to fill the positions. The report also noted that improving education results through early education for children, more classroom time for reading and mathematics skills, and more time spent in school, will best help equip new and young entrants to the Lao workforce to take advantage of employment opportunities in the future.

When you get tired of the often hectic pace of traveling in Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, the sleepy alternative of Laos awaits. With a slower pace of life and a rich culture, Laos offers a lot to potential visitors in terms of its attractions and cuisine. If you have to ask me to pick only one city in SE Asia that I could ever visit again it would be a close call between Chiang Mai, Thailand and Luang Prabang, Laos. Having visited the city several times before, I convinced Audrey – who was visiting for the first time – to stay for several weeks for an opportunity to relax and really appreciate all that the city has to offer. We spent our time exploring local temples such as Wat Xieng Thong, climbing hills such as Mount Phou si for great views of the city, visiting the night market, gormandizing on local Lao cuisine and learning how to cook Lao food. What really won us over though is the lack of street traffic, slower pace of life and charming colonial architecture. It's a city where you'll want to linger for days on end and if we decided to return to SE Asia - in the near future - it is a potential base for us. After reluctantly leaving Luang Prabang, we ended up in the capital city of Vientiane after taking the overnight bus. Although Vientiane, has a bit of a bum rap (some have called it the most boring capital city in Asia) we happen to think it's a decent stopover for a couple of nights. You can spend your days exploring museums and temples and your nights cooling off along the Mekong River (where you'll notice locals exercising and relaxing) before grabbing tasty intentional cuisine. The following is a top attractions travel guide offering a snapshot of the best things to do in Laos during your next vacation to the most chilled out country in SE Asia. To cross into Laos from Thailand we decided to take a three day tour the included a bus ride from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong and a two day Mekong river slow boat tour to Luang Prabang with a overnight stay in Pak Beng. Overall, our substandard tour made us wish we had of done our journey independently. Aside from all of the problems we encountered we also had to contend with some rather obnoxious backpackers who were more than boisterous about their overzealous enthusiasm towards doing drugs in a developing country. The two days we spent cruising down the Mekong was the only pleasant/redeeming aspect of the journey. Armed with a full charged iPod, Kindle, camera and camcorder, I alternated between listening to music, reading, taking photos/videos and drifting off to sleep when I wasn't admiring the views of the murky water, lush jungle and occasional hillside settlements. In hindsight, we'd travel back in time and either do this journey independently or join a higher end tour. Having the flexibility to choice of our hotels and board boats less crammed with tourists would have made the journey infinitely more pleasant. If you're considering doing a slow boat trip to Luang Prabang, Laos don't make the same mistakes we did ;) The journey to Laos is actually a three day trip. Day one involves driving from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong, which is at the border between Laos and Thailand. On day two we finally get on the boat and travel from Chiang Khong across the border and arrive at Pak Beng. The last day (the third day) is nine hours on a boat all the way from Pak Beng to Luang Prabang. We're going to tell you all about our journey - the pros, the cons, the things that were great and what wasn't so great. First, this is the actual trip. Overall conclusions about this trip - we'd definitely recommend taking the slow boat from Thailand to Laos; however, doing the three day tour is definitely something we'd reconsider. Perhaps a lot of our negatives come from the fact that we did a budget tour and we took the option that is only 2400 Baht. Some of the things we didn't like so much is that we were always leaving behind schedule and sometimes we'd be waiting around for an hour before anything happened. Also, when it came to accommodations the hotels weren't amazing. Our first night was spent at a former jail and it kind of felt a bit spartan. There was no hot water so we couldn't shower. In terms of food, I would call it prison food. It was boiled cabbage and just overcooked rice. Those were some of the cons. I think you're being a little bit too kind with your description of the hotel. That was literally the hardest bed I've ever slept on. I would have been more comfortable on a rock. If I had to do this trip over again I would definitely do it independently. You can take a bus from Chiang Mai (or other Northern Thai cities) all the way to the border. You can cross it yourself and find your own accommodations. You can find something that is a little bit better and more suitable than what we stayed at. Also, you can buy your own boat tickets as well and by showing up early at the pier and purchasing it yourself ensures you get a good seat. That is the key to enjoying your experience going down the Mekong. A few tips to make the trip a bit more pleasant would be to show up early. You want to be the first person on the boat so you can choose the best seats. You don't want to be near the front because the views aren't that great and you're kind of sitting sideways. You don't want to be near the back because the engine is rambling and it is incredibly loud. You want to choose a seat in the middle. Also, you'll want to bring a cushion or a pillow just in case you end up sitting on the wooden seats. Those are not very comfortable and you'll also want to stock up on lots of food and bring sandwiches, pastries and whatever it is you'll want to eat because it is a long trip and on the boat they just have chips and tea and cups of noodles. http://nomadicsamuel.com/video-blog/slow-boat-luang-prabang-laos This is part of our Travel in Laos series. HIV has the tremendous negative impact the national human resource and several complicated obstacles. However, young people in general and young key affected population don't get enough access to sexual health education, rights to health treatment and many crucial supports, due to the lack of government support/policy. The European Union (EU) will provide 900,000 euros to Laos for a project to develop nationwide health coverage through a service that everyone can afford. The launch of the joint three year project between the Ministry of Health, EU, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) took place in Vientiane yesterday. The project is titled ‘Improving accountability in health financing and functioning of National Health Insurance Branches in two provinces' (Vientiane and Luang Prabang), and seeks to move Laos closer to achieving universal health coverage. Timely access to health care is critical to maintaining good health yet the high cost of health services often means that people cannot afford care even when they need it the most. The result is that they are forced to make a difficult decision between receiving essential care and facing severe financial hardship. “The concept of universal health coverage seeks to ensure that everyone can obtain the health services they need without suffering financial hardship when paying for them,” Deputy Minister of Health Associate Prof. Dr Som Ock Kingsada said. He noted the country's commitment to achieve universal health coverage by 2025 as part of the National Health Sector reform framework. To reach this goal, scaling up and improving existing social health protection schemes will be critical. In his remarks at the launch of the project, EU Chargé d'Affaires Mr Michel Goffin reminded the audience of last year's outbreak of dengue fever, when 24,000 to 25,000 people had to go to hospital. He also noted the financial hardship these people faced when paying the bills for their hospital stay. “Equitable access to quality health care services is one of the enabling vectors for inclusive and sustainable growth. Universal health coverage, among other dimensions, will increase financial protection against ill health so as to improve health outcomes for all Lao citizens,” Mr Goffin said. The 900,000 euro project is fully funded by the EU and includes several other line ministries such as the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Finance. This financial support is part of the 18.5 million euro EU Budget Support Programme to the Education and Health sector reforms in the context of Laos' 7th National Socio-Economic Development Plan. District health insurance staff in four districts of Vientiane and Luang Prabang provinces will receive considerable support to improve the management of social health protection schemes. Activities will i nclude training, supportive supervision and ensuring that roles and responsibilities are more clearly defined. They will also benefit from improvements to the accounting and financial reporting systems of health facilities. The project will engage different line ministries and stakeholders to ensure a su stainable and functional system is in place that can be replicated in other provinces once the project is completed and evaluated. “The goal of health financing is to ensure adequate spending and effective allocation of financial resources to improve health services so that people will not be at risk of greater impoverishment as a result of health care expenses,” WHO Official in Charge Dr Dapeng Luo said. Vice Governor of Vientiane province Mr Bounmy Phoutthavong was also present at the project launch ceremony. By Times Reporters (Latest Update November 20, 2014)

To achieve the goal of health for all, the Government of Lao PDR has adopted the Millennium Development Goals and primary health care (PHC) strategy, in particular targeting rural poor, ethnic minorities, and women and children. With its ongoing project, ADB s Loan 1749 supports PHC expansion in 8 northern provinces and strengthening institutional capacity for PHC management nationwide. A network of health facilities has been put in place and volunteers have been trained to improve access. Paramedics and villagers are being trained, many of them from ethnic minorities. This expanded PHC system provides the basis for improving sector impact. However, the health system faces chronic underfunding, management constraints, lack of qualified staff for rural locations, and lack of public education.

Travel video about destination Laos. Laos is a tropical country in the heart of Indochina and was once known as ‘The realm of a million elephants’. Set amid mountains and surrounded by China, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Laos lay undiscovered for many years but today it is gradually opening its doors and its dreamlike royal cities, contemplative temple complexes, mysterious plains and ethnic mountain villages are now accessible to all. The capital, Vientiane, originated at the point at which the first navigable section of the Mekong River joins with the Gulf Of Thailand, once an important trading route to South China. We travel north into the pure Asia of bygone times, a land full of adventure where there is little tourism, past many villages with small markets at the roadside and various temple complexes. Most of Laos consists of rugged mountain areas and only a small number of roads connect the country’s few large towns. We repeatedly pass through large valleys flanked by densely wooded mountain slopes until karst covered mountains appear and reveal yet another captivating landscape. Amid this romantic area on the banks of the Mekong River is a town that is one of Laos’ most impressive historic destinations, Luang Prabang, which became the official residence of the monarchy in 1453 and remained so for several centuries. Thirty five monasteries that accommodate around seven hundred monks as well as a thousand novices and also the city’s many splendid temples highlight the deep religious faith that determines the everyday life of Luang Prabang. Laos is one of the most fascinating countries in South East Asia: a sleepy paradise that is slowly awakening. It is a land trapped somewhere between age-old traditions and a modern way of life.

A compilation of videos relating to travel and tourism in the south east Asian country of Laos. I'm sorry for the strange lines appearing at times- there seems to be some problems with my video editor. Includes: 'Welcome to Laos-Visit Laos Year 2012' uploaded by PhouIuTravel Laos 'Laos Travel Video - Finally Found Love, Finally Found Laos' uploaded by iSpotTravel 'Laos Tourism - Visit Laos' uploaded by bestdestination Laos overview by Rough Guides: Often overlooked in favour of its better-known neighbours, landlocked Laos remains one of Southeast Asia's most beguiling destinations. Caught in the middle of the two Indochina wars and long isolated from the rest of the world, the country retains a slow, rather old-fashioned charm, and its people -- incredibly laidback and friendly, even by Asian standards -- are undoubtedly one of the highlights of any visit. Laos's lifeline is the Mekong River, which runs the length of the country, at times bisecting it and at others serving as a boundary with Thailand; the rugged Annamite Mountains historically have acted as a buffer against Vietnam, with which Laos shares its eastern border. Most people visit the country as part of a wider trip in the region, often entering from Thailand and following the Mekong further south. However, Laos alone rewards further exploration, and with a little more time it's not hard to feel like you're visiting places where few Westerners venture. Stretching from the forest-clad mountains of the north to the islands of the far south, there's enough here to keep you occupied for weeks, and still feel as though you'd barely scratched the surface. For such a small country, Laos is surprisingly diverse in terms of its people. Colourfully dressed hill tribes populate the higher elevations, while in the lowland river valleys, coconut palms sway over the Buddhist monasteries of the ethnic Lao. The country also retains some of the French influence it absorbed during colonial days: the familiar smell of freshly baked bread and coffee mingles with exotic local aromas in morning markets, and many of the old shophouses of its larger towns now (appropriately) house French restaurants. The effects of the wars, and of its communist government, are unmistakable -- it remains completely inadvisable to strike out into the countryside without following paths for fear of UXO (unexploded ordnance) -- and the country remains heavily dependent on its neighbours for all manner of products; indeed in some parts of the country, the local markets stock more Chinese and Vietnamese goods than Lao. However, whether you're riding through the countryside on a rickety old bus crammed with sacks of rice, more people than seats, and blaring tinny Lao pop music, leisurely sailing down the Mekong past staggeringly beautiful scenery, or being dragged by a stranger to celebrate a birth over too much Beer Lao and lào-láo, it's hard not to be won over by this utterly fascinating country and its people.

The 3rd episode in the Solo-Traveler's Guide To: The World series. This episode guides you from northern Laos in Luang Namtha all the way down south to Don Dhet. Motorcycle adventures, drinking with the locals, bowling, and kayaking all await you in this hidden gem of a country. Filmed in July of 2014. Here is a list of 10 things to do in Luang Prabang, Laos including all of the best travel and top attractions in the city: 1) Explore the countryside 2) Ride a bicycle around the city 3) Wander the streets 4) Enjoy riverside dining 5) Visit a Buddhist Temple 6) Climb up Phou Si hill for the best views of Luang Prabang 7) Eat local Lao cuisine 8) Visit Luang Prabang night market 9) Join in a Buddhist Alms ceremony 10) Take a Lao cooking class We have made it to Luang Prabang and this city has quickly become one of my favorites here in Southeast Asia. This is the cultural hub of Laos and we're going to show you a few of the things you can do around town. When you're visiting Luang Prabang, it is really easy to stick to the city center. There is so much to do and see there but if you have the time come outside and explore the outskirts of the city. Right now we're going across a bamboo bridge and we're going to see what is on the other side. Lead the way. Because this is a very small city it is really easy to find yourself in the countryside. That's exactly what we've been doing just wandering down rural areas and we even found a dog to join us for the walk. Now we are up bright and early for a biking tour around the city. We picked up these bikes for 20,000 Kip, which is $2.50 USD and we have them for the day, so we're going to be cycling around. Let's see what we find. Luang Prabang is very pedestrian friendly. In fact, there are so many different little back-alleys and lanes to explore that it is just a great idea to wander about without any sense of direction. There are some fantastic views in this city so one of our recommendations is to enjoy a meal by the river, which is what we're doing tonight. Another thing you'll want to do when you're in Luang Prabang is to visit all of the temples around the city. This morning we're visiting Wat Xieng Thong and it is one of the main temples in Luang Prabang. It is also known as the Golden City Temple and it really has some impressive glass mosaics. You'll want to wander around and take some photos. It is 20,000 Kip to enter which is $2.50 USD and like most places it is good to come early because it starts to get busy during the middle of the day. Now it is time for us to get a little bit of exercise. We're going to climb up 328 steps up Mount Phou si which is more like a hill for the best views of Luang Prabang. Admission to reach the top of this mountain is 20,000 Kip which is again is $2.50 USD. It is kind of cool going up because you go up one way and then you come down the other side of the mountain so you get to see different views along the way. How could we have a list of things to do in a city without focusing on the local cuisine. We're here at our favorite restaurant Tamarind. We've been here so often it's literally our home away from home and we're going to show you a few of our favorite dishes. This is the dipping platter. This over here is a coriander pickle. Next we have an eggplant dip. A tomato dip. We have paste made from buffalo skin. We have some seaweed chips and then some vegetables that we can use with the sauce. Let's dig in. That all goes together, of course, with our sticky rice. I'm going to unveil our steamed fish, which comes wrapped in banana leaf. It is called Mok Pa. And when the sun goes down it is time to go shopping. We're at the tourist night market and we're picking up souvenirs. If there is one thing that Luang Prabang is known for is for its Almsgiving which happens every morning at six AM. This is where monks collect alms of rice from kneeling locals and tourists. If you love to eat like we do then you can't leave Luang Prabang without taking a cooking class. Today we're at the Phou si market and we're picking up ingredients before we start preparing our food. Not much sugar in Lao cooking like in Thai food. When you taste Thai food you taste milky and creamy and sweet things because they add lots of coconut milk and lots of sugar. That is why their food tastes like that. Laos food is different. Lao food tastes lots of herbs and lots of texture. This is Lao food. I'd like to point out that Sam and I are making the exact same dish. This is his sauce and this is mine. What are you missing? Just about everything. Here we have our buffalo salad. We stir friend some buffalo meat and we also added beansprouts and there is banana flowers. We have string beans, hot chilies and mint leaves. We're going to be rolling this up in lettuce leaves. It is kind of like a little fresh roll: http://nomadicsamuel.com/video-blog/luang-prabang-attractions Proudly presented by: http://nomadicsamuel.com , http://smilingfacestravelphotos.com , http://thatbackpacker.com & http://backpacking-travel-blog.com All photos and video taken by Samuel Jeffery (Nomadic Samuel) and Audrey Bergner (That Backpacker).

After years of war and isolation, Southeast Asia's most pristine environment, intact cultures and quite possibly the most chilled-out people on earth mean destination Laos is fast earning cult status among travellers. It is developing quickly but still has much of the tradition that has sadly disappeared elsewhere in the region. Village life is refreshingly simple and even in Vientiane it's hard to believe this sort of languid riverfront life exists in a national capital. Then, of course, there is the historic royal city of Luang Prabang, where watching as hundreds of saffron-robed monks move silently among centuries-old monasteries is as romantic a scene as you'll experience anywhere in Asia. (Lonelyplanet).
I can't exactly say I'm the travel expert but I am a fellow backpacker who went to Laos and this is what I found out! Recommendations! http://www.easygohoste...
Laos Adventure Travel: After years of war and isolation, Southeast Asia's most pristine environment, intact cultures and quite possibly the most chilled-out people on earth mean destination Laos Adventure Travel is fast earning cult status among travellers. It is developing quickly but still has much of the tradition that has sadly disappeared elsewhere in the region. Away from the cities, there is so much more to see; the Plain of Jars in Xieng Khuang Province, the forested mountains of Northern Laos, the gothic limestone karsts around the backpacker-haven Vang Vieng and in the deep south, past the market town Pakse, is Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands), where the mighty Mekong spreads out and all the hammocks are taken. The Lao wilderness is drawing travellers looking for nature, adventure or both. Kayaking, rafting, rock-climbing and biking are all available, but it's the community-based trekking that is most popular because it combines spectacular natural attractions with the chance to experience the 'real Laos' with a village homestay -- while spending your money where it's needed most. There is undoubtedly a growing tourist trail in Laos, but that just means there's plenty of roads off Rte 13 where you can make your own trail. After all, half the fun of travelling here is in the travel itself -- the people you meet, chickens you share seats with, wrong turns you take and lào-láo you drink with the smiling family at the end of the road less travelled. Southeast Asia at its best. 85% of the country is untouched nature, widespread forests, steep mountains and wide river valleys, but also cool high plateaus and savannahs. The primeval forests support a fauna like something out of a fairy tale, with elephants, tigers, leopards, and some of the rarest animal species on the planet. Species never seen by humans are discovered at regular intervals. In recent decades, the few large mammals to be described for the first time were all found in Indochina and experts assume that most of them are at home in Laos: wild oxen such as the saola and kuprey or the truong son munjak. No outsider has ever seen a living specimen of the latter; its existence is only known indirectly, through skeletons, horns and bag that are occasionally found in remote villages. And there is the Mekong, one of the last untamed rivers on Earth. Fed by hundreds of tributaries, it is one of the richest freshwater systems on the planet, comparable only with the Congo or Amazon. This is where the Mekong catfish lives. At 3 meters long and weighing in at 300 kilograms, this monster must be the largest freshwater fish on earth.

The Secret War In LAOS.
Vientiane is the capital and largest city of Laos, situated on the Mekong near the border with Thailand. Vientiane became the capital in 1563 due to fears of a Burmese invasion.[2] Vientiane was the administrative capital during French rule and, due to economic growth in recent times, is now the economic centre of Laos. The estimated population of the city is 754,000 (2009).

CounterPunch 2015-04-10Laos ((i/ˈlaʊs/, /ˈlɑː.ɒs/, /ˈlɑː.oʊs/, or /ˈleɪ.ɒs/) Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, pronounced [sǎː.tʰáː.laʔ.naʔ.lat páʔ.sáː.tʰiʔ.páʔ.tàj páʔ.sáː.són.láːw] Sathalanalat Paxathipatai Paxaxon Lao), officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is a landlocked country in Southeast Asia, bordered by Burma and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south and Thailand to the west. Its population was estimated to be 6.5 million in 2012.
Laos traces its history to the Kingdom which existed from the 14th to the 18th century when it split into three separate kingdoms. In 1893, it became a French protectorate, with the three kingdoms, Luang Phrabang, Vientiane and Champasak, uniting to form what is now known as Laos. It briefly gained independence in 1945 after Japanese occupation, but returned to French rule until it was granted autonomy in 1949. Laos became independent in 1953, with a constitutional monarchy under Sisavang Vong. Shortly after independence, a long civil war ended the monarchy, when the Communist Pathet Lao movement came to power in 1975.
I crawl out in the morning time and I am fine
and then I breathe in this air and I slide
why does it always end up like this?
and what is the meaning of my decline?
I drift out and I drift out far, and I surmise...
that just everything that I've felt has declined
why did you leave me adrift like this?
and what is the meaning of our decline?
I could have had it all
deep in this haze, I see her face
she creeps to me, she begs for me
I can not go, not this again
I'm much too weak, I'm conquered
and then I feel myself decline
in the grip of ionia
and then I see myself resign
to the lust for Ionia
and then she takes me down, down, down
and then she keeps me down, down, down
and then she speaks of love, love, love
love, love as misery (as I lose control)
she clings to me, she won't let go
and then she takes this all away
she's tainted me, I'm nothing now
I'm so obscure, I'm conquered
and then I feel myself decline
in the grip of Ionia
and then I see myself resign
to the lust for Ionia
of Ionia, oh Ionia, oh Ionia, oh Ionia
this time is not anything, it's nothing
oh Ionia I swear, that you will haunt me
and I'll never know why I resign all the time
and I reach straight for nothing
oh Ionia I swear, in an instant you're lonely
and just like all the time you will throw this aside
and you'll move on to nothing
oh Ionia I see, through the haze she is fading
Standing in a field flying my kite
the string slips out of my hand
the kite, it drops out of control
tangled and trapped on the telephone wire
please help me, don't walk right by
the angel's wings are trapped in telephone wires
and nobody cares, they go out of their way
standing on the street watching the day
a car stops in front of me
a gun, I drop out of control
I am seeing christmas
In the garden with venus
In my eyes they kiss
Oh, to be involved in this
All the aching signs we miss
To live in purple scarlet bliss
And swim with jeweled golden fish
Sugar sweet, pressing lips to taste defeat
Something divine, something divine
Fingers reaching through the air
Twisting tongues and pulling hair
Cross the line, crushing the line
Catching the corpse before she falls
Watching her crack apart the china doll
Shatter the time, shatter the time
Bleeding through her milky skin
Flesh is torn and stretched from sin
Enemy mine, enemy mine
Smelling the sickness, swelling the veins
Blacken the sun and blacking the days
Climbing the sky, climbing the sky
This place is just nothing
It's just like every place
It feels like nothing
I don't fit in
So on to another place
It's just like the last place
I just feel nothing
I can't fit in
Not here, not anywhere
....on to a new place
This day is just nothing
It's just like every day
It feels like nothing
I don't fit in
So on to another day
It's just like the last day
I just feel nothing
I can't fit in
Not here, not anywhere
....in to a new day
washed out, pale skies
cold sun burns bright
I can really feel this vacant, winter day
taking me away
...I’m gone
...far away
cold breath, hits hard
quiet, until springtime
and the cold winter air seems so far away from the
summertime
and we will wait until springtime
and we will wait for the gentle breeze of the summertime
as we move through this winter town
one last look, one last day, but so far away from the
summertime
we’ll be glad when we leave this cold, fading town
but so sad when we think of the gentle breeze of the
summertime
and in a flash it lingers...
in the fire in the pain
the burning spiral burns again, for the last time
and then it fades
the dust it settles all around
and through the fire comes better days
and all these memories burn away
and the circle fades
and all of this i leave behind
and i watch it fade
and all of this i leave behind
and i welcome better days
and in the light it flickers... the new fire. the new day
the night sky beats down hard again
with just a smile and no pain
the dust it settles all around
and though the fire comes better days
and all these memories burn away
i am so tired, please just take me away
just let me lay down here for awhile, again
open my eyes to the bright morning sun
hoplessly stare, she is with me again
why does she come and why does she care so much for me
she reaches out to me, she whispers so sweetly
"come to me, be with me, sink with me, die with me"
Sorrow is her name and she's mine
her hands reach out to me, her words bore deep in me
"i'm so alone, please won't you come and be with me"
Sorrow is her name and she's mine, and i...
breathe in this air, so humid and dark
this doesn't takes me in again and again
reach out my hands to the dark desert sky
fall to my knees she is with me again
and then for awhile her "night time" prevails in me again
she grips and pulls at me, she sinks her teeth in me
"you're not alone as long as you sink deep with me"
Sorrow is her name and she's mine
naked in front of me, lust gets the best of me
"loneliness adds to our beauty and our decay"
Sorrow is her name and she's mine
and she's mine
the top of the world is so endless and stark
there's ice in my eyes and ice in my heart
the desert slowly fades into cold, restless days for awhile in me
the summer seems long on this hot humid day
salvation tonight if she fades in the rain
but tonight i will stay as she creeps in the rain
and seeps through me
she sinks her tongue in me, "i will not ever leave"
she sings a song that's so sweet (but in disarray)
Sorrow is her name and she's mine
"slip through this open door, come in an never leave"
she smiles for me and says "i'm all you'll ever need"
Sorrow is her name and she's mine and she's mine!
i will never leave her again
..will never leave her again
..will never leave her again
aqua smile blue rhythm pulse me you
molten syrup flows through veins
twilight sprinkled a zillion eyes shine few
lava consume cool numb and trancing view
rings of dust around us coil embrace
breath falls like dust against your skin
starshine moon drips dew and pulled me in
crystal sips of heaven entwined in him
heart soft lullaby swarming my dizzy head blood swim
everyday i pray for you
every day i pray
every night i think about...
every day i pray
I was out walking in your eyes
lines on my hands map the skies
we were just falling in deep sea
I’m afraid of you - and you of me
naked before you, I stand
this flesh is a line in the sand
your smile is my only true friend
as the afternoon, summer sunshine prevails
flowing, flickering, off the desert palms today
washed out summer blue, hovers closely to the rails
I stand quietly, I absorb it all today
pale blue prevails
first so quietly, then so violently, the train...
roars so endlessly, on the desert floor today
cypress green details, summer clouds prevail, then rain
you are my skin stretched soft
cover my bones
like grass on an ancient grave
moss on a forgotten stone
nimble fingers feel you feel me
eyes pushed wide open to heaven
tears from Christ fall down cover me
"the gentle salt of pious tears"
slides down my cheeks
"across my open lips tastes tongue gently"
fantastic this love
"in heaven love... angel's wings beat"
like sand beneath the sea
"muffled...flowing"
and the tiny star blinks and I missed it
"the past was stolen"
stare into vast grey skies
"pinlights dance in cold grey eyes"
the faeries playing firefly
"and you beneath me...wet grass shimmering"
We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Mother Mary, feel me prevail...
you're not anything at all
drifting, fading, clean, sharp detail...
you're not anything at all
stationary, vivid and clear...
you're not anything at all
mother Mary, save your tears...
I'm not anything at all
I don't think that I, I don't think that i...
can feel anything at all, and i...
mother Mary, broken and pale...
you're not anything at all
watching, waiting, withered and frail...
you're not anything at all
visionary, wasted, stagnant years...
you're not anything at all
mother Mary, silence your fears...
I'm not anything at all
mother Mary, feel me fade
hear me whisper, hear me fade
drifting, waiting, feel me fade
the morning breaks so cold and gray
and i'm still here, alone
it's all the same, the years have passed
so slow and gray, with nothing
i can't believe that ten years have passed
and i'm still here, alone
i need to change, i need to move on
i'll whither here forever, forever
the time has come for me to leave
i must go, i must leave this all behind
i must leave, no need for second thoughts
i must go, the time is ripe i hear
and everybody waves goodbye
they hate me, they were never friends at all
they needed... for me to roll around
they wanted me to stay and never leave... their misery
the clouds break, the sun beats through
i'm so alive, again
the cold and grey is so far behind
i'm so alive, i'm so... alive
i'll never go back to that grey place again
i must stay here, i must..., i must...
i have found a place of happiness
the sun beats down on me for awhile
wave goodbye to the lonely days
goodbye at last, goodbye
just let me be alone and feel this place
and see this place, alone again, alone, again
wave goodbye to the lonely days
goodbye at last, but wait...
then the morning breaks so cold and grey
and i'm back here again, again, again, again
I stagger out into this fading day
The mood is vacant and the clouds are grey
This day seems so bare and this air is so cold
I look around, then slide...i feel so old
And then i think about the little things i think
About
And then i feel and i remember
And then i look around and see the things i always
Then i slip hard as i remember
everything fades
as i decline
this facade burns away
lifeless sharp volts pump hard through my veins
emotions sucked clean and drained clean from me
this gray horizon fades stark to endless days
electricity and light pumps life into me ...for awhile
strap this mask firm, bolt hard this lightning rod
the storm outside fantastic pumps life into me
out to the darkened sky, take my hand for awhile
electricity, I'm here, strike down on to me...forever
swirl and swirl and swirl and swirl and...
I'm on fire, electricity is clean and pure for awhile
is pure for awhile...
You with me in heaven
floating like ribbon in the sea of tranquility
the perfume of your soul intoxicating
water in cascades
surrender
fall with me into the arms of angels
the feather touch of kisses
into the light forever
tongues twist in time to oblivion
water rising higher
and we sink into the sea
lungs filled...smiles explode
and home again
(time stands frozen forever)
and in my arms you stay
(like a baby to my breast you stay)
the stars fall to earth and we catch them
the sugar of your kiss reflects them
eyes wide like oceans vast
inside with me chosen at last
"time in the presence of the garden never-ending
rib fit firmly back in place
the circle complete as the skies explode
the blessing of angels cry down on us
like diamond chips our flesh glistens
i can't think, think about anything
i can't think of anything at all
my thoughts drift but keep coming back to you
face to the ground, eyes closed hard
i still care
i can't sleep, i just lay here awake
sleep comes but quickly fades away
i'll just lay here and wait for the morning sun
sleepless again, eyes closed hard
i still care
Every little harmony
swirls around my head...
like a symphony, of old and past
every little harmony
bores inside my head...
like a tyranny, of old and past
don't you ever think of things
don't you want to sing like sirens do
don't you ever want to know
don't you wonder where just everybody goes
in the burning sands
then the blinding snow
from the highest high to the lowest low
from the tallest peaks to the river low
there's a place so near
it's the place I'll go
I don't ever think
I don't ever want to think
I don't want to know anything
I don't ever know
I don't ever want to know
I reflect everything, I percieve it all
I surmise just everything, I desire nothing
I need to back to the desert
so I can feel new again
I need to go back to the desert
so I can feel fresh again
don't care about anything
don't care about everything, anything
don't care about anything
except for the desert
and then I climb from this world
and head straight out to the desert
and stand under her brilliant blue
I am cleansed, cleansed by the desert
then isolation builds
and I want to escape from this desert
then desolation burns
and I just want to sin again
HATE, LOVE, HOPE, GREED
LUST, FATE, LOSS, NEED
GRIEF, TRUST, TRUTH, LIES
PAIN, WANT, DAYS, TIME
Then she and I
drove out to the country
and I felt fine
but she seemed lonely
and so resigned
it seeped deep into me
and then she cried
sparks fly upward again
our dust in spires, spin
ashes and snow in my eyes
red embers paint blackened skies
my heart froze in the river
winter water black and dead
I hide snow in my heart
and orange velvet fires in my head
blue flames dance in the wood
I'd hold them on my tongue if I could
silence is gold, and I sink
in the vastness of you, I shrink
Cuyahoga
remember us in the ground
in thick brown earth we drown
dried, broken, split our skin
green blades grow, new again
Cuyahoga
I fell asleep in the dream
in icy arms in icy streams
my eyes are open, gather moss
The day has come for everything to change
As i slip in the cold, and i fade
The time has come for everything to fade
I will not sleep tonight
too many thoughts, muscles too tight
here in the dark I’ll replay
all that has passed, my youth, the glory of broken days
cold winter sun, rises, decays
I’ll just get up to stay drunk all day
too many doubts, thoughts that delay
I saw you standing in a field of green
you were smiling, shining in the sunny breeze
and you were fine
I saw you sitting in the trees
you were dreaming, reaching up on bended knees
and you were fine
we are rolling, flying on the sea
arms extended you envelope me
and we are fine
cold air, Distant Eastern Glare
a gleam runs in my eye
it feels like nothing
fresh air, refreshed and then divined
a chill runs down my spine
it feels like nothing
come to me, out from the glare
you're so adored, you're so adored
come back to me, out from the glare
you're so adored, you're so adored
that dark, that frozen Distant Glare
reach straight to me
it feels like nothing
these hands melt then disengage
what is this and that?
i remember things, things from long ago
days that were so bare, times that seemed so low
i don't think that we can even be together
.. anywhere but home
take me in your arms, smile for me again
please don't ever leave, this must never end
i am so alive, why must this now end?
I see the sky so blue and it reaches to me
And then it crashes down...reality sinks deep
And then i coil back and sink into defeat
The day is just so cold, my whispers so discreet
I hide in this dark room, this dark warm eases me
The pain's so far away...this time drags perfectly
It's late and i am here...this night is mine to keep
My perfect quiet place...it's late and i'm at peace
The night sky seems so pure
I breathe so deep and i am here
This dark room is so pure
skies are open again
birds in the willows . . . grin
I watched you drowned
afraid of the sight, afraid of the sound
swallowing air, lungs break
heart in your hand, heart in ache
blue grass blowing again
waves through the summer trees spin
bumble bees drinking lilac wine
soft is the fur, tangled and vine
I watched you cry
afraid of the light, afraid you would die
listen for breath, bone body aches
alone in the night, loneliness breaks
cotton flies in the sky
wind breaks the branch, orioles fly
dark skies grow, clouds fill with rain
summer storm rolls
Skin peel like pink ribbon to the floor
Catching the falling sun, pressing it to her smile
Watch and beware of all she said and did
Time waits for no one, especially when you're dead
Cross the sea and walk with me
Cross the stars and sigh with me
Cross the lies and awaken with me
Cross the time and fly with me
Glimpsing the pretty girl dancing in front of me
Naked in her eyes for all the world to see
Taking the razor tongue, trimming the paper doll
Glass feels like nothing when you're completely numb
Look inside her eyes, a well of hopelessness
Cascading dreams obliterate this night
Pick up the slivered mirror, carving another face
Staring back at someone else, she's left without a
Trace
La, la, la...
Tired and afraid of the mess she's made
Cutting perfects emptiness when you're caressing a
I remember... going down on the backslide
I remember... back room down
I remember... from the top of the mountain
Let's pretend i'm dead ...she said
I feel nothing
...one more time
I remember... just one more day
I remember... the parting of those pretty lips
I remember... just everything
Let's pretend i'm dead ...she said
Up from the fields
they come to me from far away
up from the sea
they take from me just everything
up, out of time
they smile for me then drift away
up from the foam
with twisted fates they torture me
smile for me again
and then i prevail again, again
as all these memories pass again
i look ahead to the new day again
please no more dark days, dark days
again, again
and from the top of the mountain
i stare down on new flowers
and go straight into a new day
and i see the new flowers
and i drift down towards a new day
and i feel like new flowers
now i'm on the steps of a new day
has your love passed away
and do you think of me at night in stormy weather?
and when the clouds burn away,
and the sun beats so deeper and brighter?
does your memory fade,
when you think about all the things that we dreamed of?
does your heart drift away in the morning time,
as frustration prevails, prevails... for awhile?
is everything alright? why have you run from me?
why have you left me forever?
did i scare you away?
or is it something that i only dreamed of?
so is this your goodbye? cloaked in silence
have you left me forever?
you seem so far away, and i can't help but think
looked straight from afar then stared at the ground
the blood in the veins trips the heart and the days
not long ago it seemed promising, but it's changed
now it's all passed but the ghosts and the laughs
and the remnants of this all
dismissed by the lack of an honest reply
the truth rips it bare and exposes, denies
what little there was became faded and bound
the rains from the heavens never reached... the brittle ground
crawl back home and smile again
smile like a madman
look in here and fear again
afraid of these ruins
at the end of the long, dark room
he sits alone and envisions the distant ruins
he smiles and hides his face
toppled again
eyes firm in a weakened stare
back here again
holed up in this warm room
again, again
eyes closed, it burns in me
come close again
sedate me then, sedate me then
that brilliant white smile
takes me away
that brilliant white smile
blows me away
from the top of this weakened wall
I stare down on everything
is this for real?
Everything is fading away
straight to the door
sedate me then, sedate me then
this is The Realization
the haze fades
she speaks in tongues of brighter days
i sink back
i'm so afraid in every way
the past fades
she sings the song of brighter days
i reach out
she takes me in to brighter days
and i can feel, again, no for the first time
our souls embrace, my heart beats for the first time
grey days are gone, my heart sings for the first time
the sun beats down on me, no for the first time
the brand new day is here
i will never leave you
the brand new day is here
i will always love you
the brand new day is here
i will never leave you
Everybody goes down there, everybody goes down
Everyone sees everyone, again and again
Down there, down...down there, down
Down again...down there, down, down
Snowflake skin
Cheshire grin
Frozen in space
I'll twist your face
My empire vast
This night breaks fast
You fall down dead
i'll wait, each and every day
i'll wait, for better things to come
everything will go my way
if i just wait patiently
all this sadness fades away
with better things to come... come, come
I remember when I was just a little child
I remember when all of this felt so alive
I remember when I could see and I could smile
I remember when I would hope and I would try
I remember when I would stare out at the miles
I remember when I could fall deep in blue skies
I remember when I was just a little child
I remember when all of this felt so alive
now I look around and all of this just feels like nothing
now I look around and all of this is so declined
now I look around and wonder why my heart feels nothing
now I look around and wonder why the blue skies died
now I look around, I realize that I've been tainted
now I look around, I see the world through blurry eyes
now I look around and all of this just feels like nothing
now I look around and all of this is so declined
this light glares hard, and I'm here
the sun beats so hard, and I'm here
then I slip back to another day, a simple day
and I creep back, and I want to be with Daphne
she's so simple, she's so pure, she's so, so, so...
she's so simple, she's so pure, she's so, so, so...
she don't care, oh Daphne, do you remember me? Daphne
this day drags hard, and I'm here
these days stall so hard, and I'm here
then I sink back to another day, a simple day
and I creep back, and I want to be with Daphne
i climb to the mountain
to the top of the mountain
and nine hours later
i stop in despair
i try to envision
the face of the girl
but she's so far away
from the top of the world
she's the girl i love
this dark and cold of winter
makes me so lonely
so sad and lonely
in this dark room
and then for one moment
a deep and warm embrace
and nine hours later
she waits for me
she's the girl i love
at least for awhile
this all fades away
Outside it's so cold and grey (ha, ha)
Nothing but the wind and rain (ha, ha)
But through this haze i hear her cry (ha, ha)
She's coming back to be with me ...tonight
Hope is here, she's close, she's near
Hope is here, she's close, she's near ...and she's
Embracing me
She's here, she's close, she's near
Hope is here, she's close, she's near ...and she's
Embracing me
Quietly she stares at me (ha, ha)
She calls me over to her side (ha, ha)
Softly she caresses me (ha, ha)
I sit there like a timid child ...and smile
See me from a thousand miles
See me pass, see me fade
See my face melt the final time
Just one face, another burned
No use, this time
Throw that fire at everything
No use, this time
Aggravated with everything, anything
Cleanse this soul, eased mind
...Incinerate just everything
Aim these flames straight at me
...Through the smoke you'll see everything
Walk through these charred remains
On the ground, melts then fades
Stare down at these lost remains
They are me, another burned
No use, this time
Throw that fire at everything
No use, this time
Aggravated with everything, anything
Everything, anything
Cleansed soul, eased mind
Incinerate, incinerate it all
These flames, are me
Incinerate just everything
Incinerate it all
Smoke fades by a hundred times
Settles down, blows away
They yawn then close their doors
Just one fire, another burned
No use, this time
The fire moves on to anything
No use, this time
This stagnation is everything, anything
