I have re-uploaded this song for better sound quality. While I always thought that no one could ever top Eydie Gorme's massive hit "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" - this instrumental by the great Joe Harnell comes pretty close as a fine "second runner". Ever since Joe had his first instrumental hit with another bossa nova ("Fly Me To The Moon" on Kapp Records) - his virile, exciting approach to keyboard arranging and playing has entertained listeners throughout the 1960s - and beyond. Joe Harnell made his first albums for Epic in the late 1950s - switched to Kapp - and then returned to CBS on Columbia in 1967. At the beginning of his career, in 1943, Joe Harnell joined the Air Force and played with Glenn Miller's Air Force Band, and after the War, studied under Aaron Copeland and Leonard Bernstein. Originally working with Lester Lanin's orchestra, he later accompanied such stars as Peggy Lee, Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich, was pianist on the Dinah Shore Show, and was musical arranger for many years on The Mike Douglas Show. The Bronx native later moved to Hollywood and composed for "The Bionic Woman", "The Incredible Hulk", "Alien Nation" and other shows. This unique approach to "Blame It On The Bossa Nova" is an exciting recording. Arranged and conducted by Joe Harnell. Produced by Mike Berniker.
This is Joe Harnell in pre-"Fly Me To The Moon" days. The album was produced in 1961 and my copy was released under the "Kapp Medallion" label - the only one...
http://www.FullOnDrums.com Episode 33 - Jazz w/Jason Harnell! In episode 33 Jazz master Jason Harnell joins us with special guest Joe Bagg on keyboards. They give a fantastic live performance that we think you will really enjoy! Jason's kit is a Yamaha Master Custom with a 12" rack tom, 14" floor tom, and an 18" kick drum all covered with Remo heads. For metal he has a fantastic set of Istanbul Cymbals. Our goal for this episode was to capture a completely natural and organic sound. To reach our goal we used an uber simple setup, featuring micophones from Mojave Audio, and spent some time getting our placement right. Just in front of the kick we used a Mojave Audio MA301 FET and for overheads we used a spaced pair of MA300 Tube mics. These microphones did a fantastic job of capturing the kit accurately! Enjoy the episode! http://www.jasonharnell.com http://www.joebagg.com

“Ouça a natureza!” The series debuted September 10, 1994 on the Fox network's Fox Kids block and was responsible for introducing the satirical comic book character to a mainstream audience. Lasting three seasons, the final episode aired on November 24, 1996. Since then, The Tick has been syndicated by various networks, further increasing the show's cult following, and has been released on both VHS and DVD. A live-action series was created in 2001. While still in college, Tick creator Ben Edlund was producing his independent comic book series based on the character. He was eventually approached by Kiscom, a small, New Jersey-based toy licensing and design company. Kiscom wanted to create successful merchandising off The Tick similar to that experienced by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then a fellow independent comic series, the year prior. However, major TV networks and studios were reluctant to take on an animated series based on the absurd character. Kiscom stayed in touch with Edlund and finally Sunbow Entertainment, the small, New York-based animation company that created The Transformers, G.I. Joe, and The Mask, paired him up with writer Richard Libmann-Smith. The two had virtually no experience in animation or television but for two months worked vigorously on the first episode of The Tick. Neither man held high esteem over their final script, and their feelings were validated when FOX turned down the first pitch. They were given one more chance to refine it within five days. Over the following weekend, the two worked "instinctively" with little sleep and ended up satisfying FOX. Edlund later reflected, "We kind of defined in one weekend exactly where the show went for that first season, which was cool." While some darker characters and sexual innuendo seen in the comic series would be removed for its animated counterpart, Sunbow's Tick series would hold to its satirical roots. Writing duties were also given to Christopher McCulloch who had met Edlund prior to their television work and wrote several issues of the Tick comic book series. The two would much later work together on McCulloch's Adult Swim series, The Venture Bros.. Edlund, a co-producer of The Tick, remained very hands-on during the production of episodes and delayed the series. According to Edlund:

The two would much later work together on McCulloch's Adult Swim series, The Venture Bros.. Edlund, a co-producer of The Tick, remained very hands-on during the production of episodes and delayed the series. According to Edlund:

The series debuted September 10, 1994 on the Fox network's Fox Kids block and was responsible for introducing the satirical comic book character to a mainstream audience. Dhaka, March 07 (ANI): Members of United Artists Group organised a day-long hunger strike against the recent political violence and killing of the US blogger Avijit Roy in Bangladesh. Bangladeshis have been staging protests against the brutal killing of American critic of religious extremism Roy in Dhaka, in the latest of a series of attacks on writers who support free thinking values in the Muslim-majority nation. Hundreds of people joined the hunger strike and shouted slogans against the dilly-dallying of the administration in arresting the accused of Roy's murder. Members of Ganajagaran Mancha also organised a rally to protest the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the guilty. Roy, a U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin, was hacked to death by machete-wielding assailants on February 26 after a book fair, sparking widespread condemnation from home and abroad.

The thrill of the chase, the find, the capture… When I was 10 years of age my biggest buzz of my first decade was actually catching Christine Carter in the school playground.. cornered, unable to escape.. I stole the kiss I dreamt about.. 4 years later, that elation was totally eclipsed, when, with my Dad watching I scored a 15 yard volley from an Ian Newham cross for Melton Swifts one Sunday morning - the perfectly sweet contact I made, still stays with me today.. Many years later whilst stalking the river Eye with my young son, a free-line piece of cheese tempted a monstrous 6lb Chub to my hook and eventually onto the bank my most impressive fish I ever caught.. Yesterday I was rummaging through a box of neglected 45s and I found this stunner in immaculate condition… s Sorry to Christine, my Dad and the glittering fish; But all of the three above memorable moments in my over 60 years of rather ordinary life.. cannot compare to the tumultuous euphoria of the vision this Red & White PROMO of one of Northern Soul most-coveted British releases… Vinyl finds - you can’t beat them. Skiddle 2015-04-04Joe Harnell (August 2, 1924, The Bronx, New York City - July 14, 2005, Sherman Oaks, California) was an American easy listening composer and arranger.
His father was a vaudeville performer who also played in jazz and klezmer ensembles. Harnell began playing piano at age six and was performing in his father's ensembles by age 14. He attended the University of Miami on a music scholarship in the early 1940s, and in 1943 joined the Air Force, playing with Glenn Miller's Air Force Band. He studied with Nadia Boulanger when stationed in Paris and then under William Walton at Trinity College of Music in London. After his discharge in 1946, he studied at Tanglewood under Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.
Eschewing the art-music world, Harnell sought work in pop and jazz, working as a for-hire pianist after returning to New York City in 1950. He played in Lester Lanin's band at this time and found work as an accompanist for singers such as Judy Garland, Maurice Chevalier, and Marlene Dietrich. From 1958 to 1961, he was Peggy Lee's full-time accompanist and arranger for the albums Anything Goes:Cole Porter and Peggy Lee & the George Shearing Quartet. In 1962, he was hurt in a car crash, and while he recovered, Kapp Records asked him to work on writing potential hits in the then-hot genre of bossa nova. Harnell's biggest success was with his arrangement of Fly Me to the Moon, which was a hit in the US in 1963 (#14 Pop, #4 AC) and which won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. The song also peaked at #6 in Joe's hometown, on WMCA in New York, on January 16, 1963. The album from which it was taken went to #3 on the Billboard 200. Harnell would go on to release nearly 20 easy listening albums, on Kapp, Columbia, and Motown among others.
