Pleasure in Pain – A Cycling Movie filmed in South Australia
Brought to you by www.southaustralia.com as part of the Through Local Eyes Film Project
Hundreds of thousands of cycling enthusiasts descend on South Australia each January to see the world’s best cyclists compete in the Santos Tour Down Under, while images of the race are broadcast to millions around the world.
While the professionals put their bodies through the ringer over six stages and a criterium race, the truth is that thousands of cycling fans do exactly the same thing during the week - hopping on their bike and riding all over the state as they immerse themselves in all that surrounds the race.
This film tells the stories of those people. The everyday riders who see January in Adelaide is the perfect time to immerse themselves in their passion of cycling. Whether it’s a cycling club from Sydney that have come down to ride each leg of the race or recreational health focussed cyclists that are training for the satisfaction of completing the Bupa Challenge Tour (www.tourdownunder.com.au/bupa-challenge-tour/event-details/about-the-bupa-challenge-tour), it is the professional race that brings likeminded enthusiasts together in the same place – South Australia to share in their love of cycling.
This film, which was created during the 2015 Santos Tour Down Under, highlights why South Australia is the home of cycling in Australia, with Santos Tour Down Under as the jewel in that crown. The professional race creates a sea of lycra right throughout the state, transforming South Australia into cycling’s global hotspot for one week in January, while also highlighting the abundance of amazing landscape that supports cycling 365 days per year.
Narrated by the global voices of cycling Phil Ligget and Paul Sherwin, Pleasure in Pain explores the universal truths of a sport regardless of age, experience or level of expertise.
Pleasure in Pain was created by South Australian filmmakers and cycling fanatics Adam Forte and Tim Standing from Daylight Breaks (www.daylightbreaks.com.au)

Australia, part 2 of 3
In this second part my journey continues from the Roe plains in the outback of the Nullarbor onwards where it was a continuous battle and struggle against the unrelenting strong tireless headwinds snapping away and blowing me back to the west on my east bound journey and constantly zapping my energy long before I anticipated and making me go through my days of food reserves in half the time as many times I found myself going at half the normal speed on twice the amount of energy.
Looking back I don't know where I mustered the energy to film this battle with the winds particular on the days where I was depleted of energy and not finding resources for many many miles and taking my hunger and thirst to new levels thus having a deeper appreciation of the importance of water and the charity I was representing, Charity: Water.
But I was continuously immersed in the beauty of the nature and stunning scenery and the warmth of the people throughout which I evidently manage to capture!

No one likes being stuck in traffic! The average time a Sydney resident spends travelling is approximately 1.5 hours every day. With our growing cities, the stress on transport will keep increasing. Especially because the demand for liveable cities is getting bigger.
What's in a bicycle? It has to be the easiest way to travel, to prevent travellers from using their car for their daily commute. Integrating cycling in light rail stations and systems could be done by increasing the amount of parking spaces for bicycles at train stations and by providing a bicycle sharing system. In the Netherlands, the PT-bike (public bike) is run by train company NS. Bicycles are therefore an extension of the rail network. Incredible results are made by integrating these two simple principles. They made the Netherlands by far the biggest cycling country in the world.
Together with the Dutch Cycling Embassy, the Consulate-General is promoting the Dutch transport mix here in Australia. The goal is to integrate cycling into Australians’ everyday life, by exchanging our knowledge and preventing Australia to make the same mistakes the Netherlands made.

Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia. Sydney's urban area is in a coastal basin, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Blue Mountains to the west, the Hawkesbury River to the north and the Royal National Park to the south.
The most important places to visit in Sydney are: Sydney Opera House (among the world's most recognized landmarks. Set on the Sydney harbor, it is an unforgettable sight), Sydney Harbor Bridge (simply called "the bridge" by locals, courageous ones can even climb up the bridge), Bronte Beach (lesser known than Bondi, it is a beautiful beach, popular amongst families), Blue Mountains (an unspoiled mountain range filled with Eucalyptus trees. It is located 30 miles from Sydney, and there are plenty of hiking trails), Bondi Beach (Sydney's most famous beach, its lively promenade is as exciting as the beach) and many more.

Cairns is a regional city in the far north of Queensland, Australia, founded 1876. The city was named after William Wellington Cairns, then-current Governor of Queensland. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but experienced a decline when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. As of June 2012, the population is approximately 153,075.
The most important places to visit in Cairns are: The Great Barrier Reef, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Kuranda Scenic Railway, Daintree and Cape Tribulation, Dine and Wine at the Atherton Tablelands and many more.

http://www.expedia.com/Adelaide-and-vicinity.d6051330.Destination-Travel-Guides
Adelaide is the capital of South Australia and is situated close to the Great Southern Ocean.
It is a compact beachside city that is full of churches, stone buildings and beautiful parklands.
This picturesque city is unusual amongst Australian cities in that it was founded by free settlers, not convicts. Those early founders put a lot of passion into creating a better life for themselves even though they were many thousands of miles from home.
Because of that history, Adelaide has a unique sense of refinement and beauty.
One of the most popular places to visit is Victoria Square which is right in the heart of the city. From here, it is easy to wander along the North Terrace District and admire the graceful buildings and museums which echo with stories from the past.
At the South Australian Museum, visitors can learn about the rich cultures that were in the area before the Europeans arrived.
Another great place to visit is the Art Gallery of South Australia where visitors can enjoy the extensive collections of Australian and International Art.
Don’t miss the legendary Adelaide Oval which many claim to be one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world.
Adelaide is also well known as a gateway to the famous Barossa and Clair Valleys which are a food and wine lovers paradise.
Many of the early settlers to this area were German and they brought with them grapes from their homeland. The area is now well-known for producing outstanding shiraz and reisling.
While you are in the area, stop at any of the many wineries for a wine tasting or to enjoy a meal using fine local produce.
Adelaide is an old world city that attracts visitors for its elegance and romance.

Perth is a must visit if you're thinking of a trip over to Western Australia, the beautiful coastline and Perth attractions make it the ideal place to take family, friends or your partner.
The city is easy to navigate, with everything fairly close, Hay and Murray Street is home to big name shops, cinemas and the GPO.
Kings Park and Botanic Gardens are a beautiful place for a stroll and offers some great views of the city. The Botanic Gardens features over 3,000 species and the Rio Tinto Naturescape is great for the kids.
The coastline is one of Perth's draws, and if the heat is getting to you head for a dip at the golden sands on Cottesloe Beach, City Beach or Scarborough.
Fremantle is located at the mouth of the Swan River, boasting historical buildings, the Roundhouse and the Maritime Museum it's a popular place to visit. From Fremantle, hop on a boat over to Rottnest Island, it's a protected reserve and great for walking and cycling trails.
For entertainment, Perth offers popular musicals, plays and dance performances, along with bars, restaurants and clubs.

The 2016 MARS Cycling Australia Road National Championships got underway in the heart of Ballarat on Wednesday, with ORICA-GreenEDGE's Caleb Ewan (NSW), Specialized Racing's Sophie Mackay (NSW) and State of Matter/MAAP rider Jesse Kerrison (QLD) claiming the criterium titles.
CALEB CROWNED CRITERIUM KING
In a race controlled by the Orica-GreenEDGE train, Caleb Ewan (NSW) has capped off the hard work of his teammates to win the 2016 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships Criterium.
Ewan led home Brenton Jones (Vic) and 2012 criterium winner Anthony Giacoppo (WA) in front of a huge crowd in blustery conditions on Sturt Street in Ballarat.
“It was actually a big relief. Obviously there’s a fair bit of pressure going into the race as favourite," said Ewan. “It’s pretty nice to get the gold one finally, well not finally only after one season, but it feels really good and I’m an elite national champion and that’s something nice to have on your palmares."
As well as gold in tonight’s criterium, Ewan also won three stages on his way to claiming the yellow jersey at the 2016 Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic, showing he is in fine form heading into the men’s road race on Super Sunday.
UNHERALDED MACKAY UPSTAGES CRITERIUM FAVOURITES
A decision to take up cycling as a hobby on the advice of a friend four years ago has paid dividends for unheralded Wagga cyclist Sophie Mackay as she claimed the biggest win of her career in Ballarat today - the national criterium title.
Mackay, who races domestically in the Subaru National Road Series with Specialized Racing, upset Lizzie Williams (VIC) and former champion Lauren Kitchen (NSW) to win the women's criterium at the 2016 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships. Full results.
"When I realised I had won, it was more disbelief to tell you the truth," said Mackay whose previous career bests came in 2013 when she claimed the NSW road race crown and finished second in the criterium.
"Being able to wear the national champions jersey is an amazing feeling. Now I guess I will have a name to live up to so I better lift my game."
KERRISON TAKES SPRINTING MATTERS INTO OWN HANDS
Jesse Kerrison (QLD) has returned to his winning ways and capped a dominant display from the State of Matter/MAAP team to claim the Under 23 criterium crown at the 2016 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships.
In a close finish, Sam Welsford (WA) was second, and Kerrison’s teammate Daniel Fitter (QLD) was third after suffering a mechanical in the final sprint.

When the calendar turns to 2016, the Road to Rio for Australia’s road cyclists will begin at the MARS 2016 Cycling Australia Road National Championships from January 6 in Ballarat.

Moreton Bay is a bay on the eastern coast of Australia 14 km from central Brisbane, Queensland. It is one of Queensland's most important coastal resources. The waters of Moreton Bay are a popular destination for recreational anglers and are used by commercial operators who provide seafood to market.
The Port of Brisbane coordinates large traffic along the shipping channel which crosses the northern section of the bay. The bay serves as a safe approach to the airport and reduces noise pollution over the city to the west of the runway. A number of barge, ferry and water-taxi services also travel over the bay.
Moreton Bay was the site of conflict between indigenous Australians and early European settlers. It contains environmentally significant habitats and large areas of sandbanks. The bay is the only place in Australia where dugong gather into herds. Many parts of the mainland foreshore and southern islands are settled.
Moreton Bay is described as lagoonal because of the existence of a series of off-shore barrier islands that restrict the flow of oceanic water. The tidal range is moderate at 1.5–2 m in range. Moreton Bay has an average depth of 6.8 m. This shallow depth lets light filter through to the seafloor, allowing an array of marine plants to grow which support a diverse range of fauna. The bay itself covers 1,523 km² and has a catchment area 14 times larger, covering 21,220 km². The waters of the bay are mostly blue in colour. Western parts of the bay are sometimes tinted green from algae, brown from suspended sediments or yellow-brown from humic runoff.
