Travel video about destination South East Asia. South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures and a region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land Of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country’s doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia’s neighbouring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The north west of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun’s Hsinbyume Pagoda that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru.. One of Taiwan’s most important centres of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around forty kilometres north of Phnom Penh is the former capital city of Udong. Today only the remains of the city’s former splendid buildings indicate that it was the last centre of Angkor’s power with hundreds of dwellings and temples. The ruins of Ayutthaya indicate the impressive dimensions of the former capital of ancient Thailand and one of the mightiest royal cities in South East Asia.

There are fewer regions in the world more traveled today by backpackers than Southeast Asia. However, deciding where to go and what to do over such an expansive territory can be a daunting task. Hence, this guide. The following 10 things to do in SE Asia is an attractions travel guide that highlights the best of the best in the region: 1) Visit Temples No trip to SE Asia - and Cambodia for that matter - should be taken without firmly penciling in a visit to Angkor Wat. Built to honor Hindu God Vishnu, Angkor Wat is the largest religious complex in the world. 2) Island Hop Few islands in SE Asia can offer as much as Bali, Indonesia. Paradise for beach dwellers? Check. Into surfing? Check. Culture vulture? Ubud will surely tickle your fancy. Backpacker? Kuta beach is calling. Feel like climbing an active volcano? Mount Batur is calling your name. Love monkeys? Try to avoid getting bitten at Ubud Monkey Forest. 3) Volunteer If you're seeking a place to volunteer that supports a great cause, look no further than Elephant Nature Park. Nestled nearby Chiang Mai, this elephant sanctuary and rescue center protects elephants from abuse in stark contrast with the Thai government which turns a blind eye. 4) Linger for a while in Cultural Hubs Luang Prabang is a cultural hub in northern Laos that is a little slice of paradise. A charming city oozing with character it is different from other cities in Southeast Asia in the sense that is not overcrowded. Whether you go shopping, explore the rural countryside or enjoy riverside dining you'll surely remember your time here fondly. I highly recommend taking a cooking class. 5) Marvel at modern architecture When you first lay your eyes upon the Petronas Towers it is like being in front of a futuristic space towers. These amazing towers are the main landmark of Kuala Lumpur and are easily the most impressive towers in SE Asia. 6) Indulge in Street Food I can't think of a single nation in SE Asia where you can't devour amazing street food. In our travel video guide we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chaing Mai where you can eat Thai and International street food delights without shelling out too much Baht. 7) Explore a Mega Alpha City There are many mega cities in SE Asia worth exploring from Kuala Lumpur to Saigon and Bangkok to Hanoi; however, no city in Southeast really compares with Singapore. Clean. Impossibly sterile. Maybe to some; however it is a beacon of light in terms of development and prosperity with many impressive attractions and landmarks. 8) Get off the beaten track When possible try to visit some smaller gems. Although the road from Chiang Mai to Pai is as serpentine as you'll ever experience, the rewards once arriving are plentiful. Stunning scenery and a slower pace of life await you. Swing on a hammock to your heart's content. 9) Boat Trip Choosing either a two or three day Ha Long Bay boat cruise is one of the top things I recommend to do while traveling in Vietnam. Stunning Karsts, adventure sports (kayaking) and plenty of relaxing are what keep tourists coming in droves. 10) Go Hiking and visit Hill Tribes Sapa, Vietnam is one of your best bets in SE Asia for adventure hiking. You can go on two or three day adventures where you'll be treated to breathtaking scenery, rice terraces, rural life and plenty of hospitality. This is part of our Travel in Southeast Asia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Asian culture, Asian arts, Asian foods, Asian religion and Asian people. Southeast Asia at its best. 85% of the country is untouched nature, widespread forests, steep mountains and wide river valleys, but also cool high plateaus and savannahs. The primeval forests support a fauna like something out of a fairy tale, with elephants, tigers, leopards, and some of the rarest animal species on the planet. Species never seen by humans are discovered at regular intervals. In recent decades, the few large mammals to be described for the first time were all found in Indochina and experts assume that most of them are at home in Laos: wild oxen such as the saola and kuprey or the truong son munjak. No outsider has ever seen a living specimen of the latter; its existence is only known indirectly, through skeletons, horns and bag that are occasionally found in remote villages. And there is the Mekong, one of the last untamed rivers on Earth. Fed by hundreds of tributaries, it is one of the richest freshwater systems on the planet, comparable only with the Congo or Amazon. This is where the Mekong catfish lives. At 3 meters long and weighing in at 300 kilograms, this monster must be the largest freshwater fish on earth.

A footage of a very rare interview conducted with the then Prime Minster Lee Kuan Yew, Republic of Singapore by NBC News. This film is footage of an interview in which the Prime Minister of Singapore spoke on the Vietnam War and the problems of Southeast Asia. Lee Kuan Yew, GCMG, CH (born Harry Lee Kuan Yew, 16 September 1923), is a Singaporean politician. He was the first Prime Minister of Singapore, governing for three decades. He is widely recognised as the founding father of modern Singapore. As the co-founder and first Secretary-General of the People's Action Party (PAP), he led the party to eight victories from 1959 to 1990, and oversaw the separation of Singapore from Malaysia in 1965 and its subsequent transformation from a relatively underdeveloped colonial outpost with no natural resources into a "First World" Asian Tiger. He is one of the most influential political figures in Asia. Singapore's second prime minister, Goh Chok Tong, appointed him Senior Minister in 1990. He held the advisory post of Minister Mentor, created by his son Lee Hsien Loong, when the latter became the nation's third prime minister in August 2004. With his successive ministerial positions spanning over 50 years, Lee is also one of history's longest-serving ministers. On 14 May 2011, Lee and Goh announced their retirement from the cabinet after the 2011 general election but Lee remains a Member of Parliament. Its total landmass is 181,035 square kilometres (69,898 sq mi), bordered by Thailand to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. With a population of over 15 million, Cambodia is the 69th most populous country in the world. The official religion is Theravada Buddhism, practiced by approximately 95 percent of the population. The country's minority groups include Vietnamese, Chinese, Chams, and 30 hill tribes.[8] The capital and largest city is Phnom Penh, the political, economic, and cultural center of Cambodia. The kingdom is a constitutional monarchy with Norodom Sihamoni, a monarch chosen by the Royal Throne Council, as head of state. The head of government is Hun Sen, who is currently the longest serving non-royal leader in South East Asia and has ruled Cambodia for over 25 years. Cambodia's ancient name is "Kambuja" (Sanskrit: कंबुज).[9] In 802 AD, Jayavarman II declared himself king and marked the beginning of the Khmer Empire which flourished for over 600 years, allowing successive kings to dominate much of Southeast Asia and accumulate immense power and wealth. The Indianized kingdom built monumental temples including Angkor Wat, now a World Heritage Site, and facilitated the spread of first Hinduism, then Buddhism to much of Southeast Asia. After the fall of Angkor to Ayutthaya in the 15th century, Cambodia was then ruled as a vassal between its neighbors. More Info : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodia

The Khmer Empire (Khmer: ចក្រភពខ្មែរ), now known as Kampuchea,("Srok Khmer" to Khmer people) and Cambodia to the west, was the powerful Khmer Hindu-Buddhist empire in Southeast Asia. The empire, which grew out of the former Kingdom of Funan and Chenla, at times ruled over and/or vassalized most of mainland Southeast Asia, parts of modern-day Laos, Thailand, and southern Vietnam.[1] Its greatest legacy is Angkor, in present-day Cambodia, which was the site of the capital city during the empire's zenith. The majestic monuments of Angkor — such as Angkor Wat and Bayon — bear testimony to the Khmer empire's immense power and wealth, impressive art and culture, architectural technique and aesthetics achievements, as well as the variety of belief systems that it patronised over time. Recently satellite imaging has revealed Angkor to be the largest pre-industrial urban center in the world. Imagine a pandemic that affected the populations of New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Philadelphia. There’s a cure but it’s not available to the people living in those cities. What would happen? Now, think again, but imagine Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa. Today, 20,000,000 people are needlessly blinded by cataracts. Even children are not immune. In a developed country like the United States treatment for cataracts is accessible and affordable. It’s performed millions of times a year on over 50% of the population. In the developing countries of Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa, it’s not. Cataract blindness can mean dependency, poverty and even death But, this doesn’t have to be the case. For $50 you can give the gift of sight and save a life. Won’t you save a life today? https://helpmesee.org/givenow

South China Morning Post 2015-04-10Southeast Asia is a subregion of Asia, consisting of the countries that are geographically south of China, east of India, west of New Guinea and north of Australia.[citation needed] The region lies on the intersection of geological plates, with heavy seismic and volcanic activity. Southeast Asia consists of two geographic regions: Mainland Southeast Asia, also known as Indochina, comprises Cambodia, Laos, Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Vietnam and Peninsular Malaysia, and Maritime Southeast Asia, which is analogous to the Malay Archipelago, comprises Brunei, East Malaysia, East Timor, Indonesia, Philippines, Christmas Island, and Singapore[citation needed].[dead link]
Austronesian peoples predominate in this region. The major religions are Islam and Buddhism, followed by Christianity. However, a wide variety of religions are found throughout the region, including many Hindu and animist-influenced practices.
Definitions of "Southeast Asia" vary, but most definitions include the area represented by the countries and territories listed below. All of the countries excluding East Timor are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The area, together with part of South Asia, was widely known as the East Indies or simply the Indies until the 20th century. Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are considered part of Southeast Asia though they are governed by Australia. Sovereignty issues exist over some islands in the South China Sea. Papua New Guinea has stated that it might join ASEAN, and is currently an observer.
