Gertrude Weaver, who just last week became the world's oldest-known living person, has died at the age of 116 at a senior care facility in Arkansas, officials said on Monday. Weaver, who said the key to longevity was to treat people kindly, basked in her brief moment in the global spotlight. She enjoyed being read news articles about being the oldest person on the planet, said Kathy Langley, the administrator of the Silver Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Camden, Arkansas. "She certainly enjoyed it,'' Langley said. "We are devastated by her loss.'' Weaver was born on July 4, 1898, according to the Gerontology Research Group, which validates ages of the world's longest-living people. The daughter of sharecroppers, Weaver was born in Arkansas near the Texas border and worked as a domestic helper. The world's oldest known person is now Jeralean Talley of Inskter, Michigan, who was born on May 23, 1899 and will turn 116 next month, according to the group. Misao Okawa, a Japanese woman who credited her longevity to "eating delicious things,'' had been the world's oldest living person until her death on April 1 at the age of 117.

Turkey blocks Twitter, YouTube over hostage photos For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS A Turkish court has ordered blocks on Twitter and YouTube for sharing photos of a hostage taken during an armed siege last week. The blocks have been imposed because images of a deadly siege were being shared via the social networks. In the siege two gunmen reportedly from a far-left group took a prosecutor hostage at Istanbul central courthouse. All three died in a shootout when police stormed the building during a rescue bid. Before imposing the blocks on the websites, Turkish authorities had moved to stop newspapers printing images taken during the siege last week. The newspapers were accused by the government of disseminating "terrorist propaganda" for the DHKP-C group that was reportedly behind the attack on the courthouse. The DHKP-C is considered a terrorist group by Turkey, the European Union and US. The prosecutor at the centre of the siege, Mehmet Selim Kiraz, was apparently taken hostage because he headed an investigation into the death of a boy during anti-government protests that took place in 2013. The same pictures showing attackers holding a gun to Mr Kiraz's head were also being widely shared on social media, leading authorities to act, reported Turkish newspaper Hurriyet. In total, 166 websites which shared the images were blocked by the court order. YouTube published the text of the court ruling on its website saying an "administration measure" had been enacted by Turkey's telecoms authority. Facebook was also subject to the same block but it is believed the restrictions on it have been lifted after it removed the images. Many Turkish people reported via social media that they were having problems accessing the sites and many others. This is not the first time that Turkish authorities have imposed blocks on social media sites and networks. In the run-up to local elections in March 2014 blocks were imposed after recordings circulated allegedly revealing corruption among senior officials. Figures provided by Twitter revealed that Turkey filed more requests to remove content from the social network than any other nation between July and December 2014.

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Refugees from Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, and Eritrea steadily descend on a migrant camp in the French coastal town of Calais. They hope to gain entry to the UK, just 21 miles away across the English Channel. But in May, French police destroyed their camp and told the migrants to go elsewhere. And so they moved... across the street. With the few tents and blankets they're able to salvage, the refugees formed the Salam camp, which now holds about 400 people. Every night, the migrants — many of whom have been forced to flee war and conflict in their home countries — attempt to sneak aboard trucks headed for Britain; eight migrants have already died this year while trying to make the journey. Inside Salam, things have gotten so bad that some occupants are hunger striking in an attempt to draw attention to their plight. But the French authorities do little to help, while the UK government turns a blind eye. VICE News spent time in the Salam camp to find out why hundreds of displaced people are being allowed to live in squalor — and even die. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has threatened to take Israel to the International Criminal Court over it’s refusal to fully release tax funds it owes to the Palestinian Authority. Abbas says Israel has returned only two thirds of what it owes in overdue custom duties. In early January, Tel Aviv stopped the monthly transfer of about 127 million dollars it collects on behalf of the PA following the Palestinians’ move to join the ICC. On Friday, Israel finally released the funds after deducting debts due for the utility bills and medical services. Now, Abbas says the Palestinians won’t take anything but the entire amount. The Palestinian Authority has been struggling to pay its employees over the past months since the monthly funds constitute for about 70-percent of its budget. It’s not clear if Israel will resume the normal monthly payment. A Turkish court has ordered blocks on Twitter and YouTube for sharing photos of a hostage taken during an armed siege last week.
The newspapers were accused by the government of disseminating \

A Japanese woman has become the first 100-year-old to complete a 1,500m freestyle swim in a 25m pool.

Mieko Nagaoka, who only took up swimming at the age of 82, already holds the record in her age category for the same distance in a 50m pool.
She completed the latest feat in just over one hour and 15 minutes, using backstroke all the way.

She was the only person taking part in her age range - 100 to 104 - at the competition in Matsuyama on Saturday.

Nagaoka already dominates the world record board for her age group, as awarded by the international swimming federation (Fina), holding 24 titles over both short and long distances.

Her latest achievement is now expected to be recognised by Guinness World Records.

Refugees from Afghanistan, Syria, Sudan, and Eritrea steadily descend on a migrant camp in the French coastal town of Calais. They hope to gain entry to the UK, just 21 miles away across the English Channel. But in May, French police destroyed their camp and told the migrants to go elsewhere. And so they moved... across the street. With the few tents and blankets they\'re able to salvage, the refugees formed the Salam camp, which now holds about 400 people.

Yemen conflict: Red Cross to send aid flights to Sanaa
The International Committee of the Red Cross is due to make two emergency aid flights into Yemen\'s capital, Sanaa.
The ICRC has been given permission to land planes carrying staff and medical supplies in Yemen, which it says is facing a humanitarian emergency.
Saudi-led airstrikes targeting Houthi rebels have hit the country for 12 nights.
Fighting has intensified in the southern port of Aden, as government troops battle the Houthis.
The UN says more than 500 people have been killed over the past two weeks in Yemen.
The ICRC says it will send a cargo plane carrying vital medical supplies, and a small passenger plane of aid workers.
However, it is still awaiting approval to send a surgical team by boat to Aden.
