Our son was diagnosed this year at age 7 as having an autism spectrum disorder, after a long hard road and a lot of everyone dismissing the signs that should have been recognized for what they were. Autism is not always as easy to recognize as you might think, and here is my account of some of the more subtle signs that were there from the beginning. And even in high-functioning kids, it is better to get a diagnosis so you have access to help because there is a good chance you (and especially your kid) will need it.
