The Apprentice: Building a strong, skilled and diverse workforce for Scotland
Please find the post conference report here.
Scotland needs a highly-skilled, motivated and modern workforce to ensure its long-term economic success and well-being. This conference will examine some of the challenges – and opportunities - to give Scotland a labour market fit for a 21st century global economy, with a specific focus on apprentices. The event will be held during Scottish Apprenticeship Week
How can we bring through the right people with the right skills to address key challenges like productivity, unemployment, gender inequality and the pay gap?
What more can be done to ensure young people leave school or college with the appropriate qualifications and the right soft skills to make an effective transition into the world of work? There is much to be done to ensure the skill system and business community work more effectively and collaboratively.
Creating the right opportunities for better and more collaborative vocational and technical training is crucial. It is also necessary to improve soft skills in areas like punctuality, presentation, interview techniques and broad customer service.
There are major issues around opportunities for women, with many still pigeon-holed and pointed towards ‘traditional’ female careers, rather than being give a wider range of options to try to match them with their aspirations.
