Ethan Hawke & Matthew McConaughey have become Richard Linklater's go-to actors over the years. Patricia Arquette had not worked with Linklater when she signed up for a 12-year run in his film, Boyhood. But mom & pop did granddad proud with two award caliber performances. The duo discusses how they ended up making the film, the process, and "the Linklater thing" with David Poland. To help keep the DP/30 machine going, please visit our Kickstarter at http://kck.st/1s3uVeA Shot in Los Angeles in June 2014.
She is a veteran actress, from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 to True Romance to Ed Wood to Flirting With Disaster to Lost Highway to Stigmata to Medium. But nothing has been quite like the odyssey of Boyhood. Patricia spoke to David Poland about the film, a career, and how she sees the world. Q&A; with Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke of BOYHOOD. Moderated by Tim Grierson, Back Stage BOYHOOD Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater's BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (a breakthrough performance by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. Snapshots of adolescence from road trips and family dinners to birthdays and graduations and all the moments in between become transcendent, set to a soundtrack spanning the years from Coldplay's Yellow to Arcade Fire's Deep Blue. BOYHOOD is both a nostalgic time capsule of the recent past and an ode to growing up and parenting. It's impossible to watch Mason and his family without thinking about our own journey.
Q&A; with Director Richard Linklater, Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, and Ethan Hawke of BOYHOOD.
Patricia Arquette's Oscar Speech was NOTHING but a DEFLECTION from RACE. White women like Kate Jackson, Suzanne Somers, Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker have been getting paid on par with White men for decades while Black actresses have been getting paid NOTHING and getting the BOTTOM of the BARREL when it comes to scripts and work. Don't Black women deserve equal pay too? Read All About Marilyn and learn the truth about Hollywood in Black and White: http://www.amazon.com/All-About-Marilyn-Shawn-James/dp/0615342582/ref=la_B00379H1CG_1_2?s=books&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1424878108&sr;=1-2
The Oscars just keep getting more and more racist, don't they? Best Actress-winner Patricia Arquette has recently come under fire for a feminist, post-win Oscar speech that revolved around equal pay for women. While that sounds like a noble cause, her use of phrases like, '“To every woman who gave birth," "To every taxpayer and citizen of this nation," and, "We have fought for everybody else's equal rights," rubbed many the wrong way (What about women that haven't given birth? Non taxpayers? Non-citizens?). Elaborating further backstage, Arquette also stated, "All the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we've all fought for… [need] to fight for us now.”' Yikes. Not only is this getting heavily into 'Oppression Olympics' territory, where members of marginalized groups pit themselves against each other over who is the 'most oppressed,' her speech also buys into the idea of 'feminism' as something does that does not include men, or gay people, or people of color, etc- in a nutshell, what many of us call, 'white feminism.' This particular brand of feminism revolves around ignoring concepts of intersectionality, where, for example, race and sexuality affect gender. It's very easy for rich, cis, straight white women- like Patricia Arquette- to see feminism as this 'one thing,' because they benefit from privilege: he privilege of being rich, so poverty doesn't have to intersect with their feminism. The privilege of being cis, so being non-binary doesn't have to intersect with their feminism. The privilege of being straight, so sexuality doesn't have to intersect with their feminism. And the privilege of being white, so race doesn't have to intersect with their feminism. In addition to Arquette's white feminist rant on Oscar night, fashion correspondent Giuliani Rancic also made headlines by claiming actress Zendaya Coleman's faux locs made her look like she smelled like 'weed' and 'patchouli oil' on the red carpet. Many pointed out that her comments had racist undertones, especially because Rancic recently praised white teen Kylie Jenner's similar hairstyle of fake dreads as 'hip' and 'edgy.' Zendaya blasted Rancic on Instagram, claiming she wore the hairstyle specifically because of the racial climate around natural hairstyles on Black people, and that she found Rancic's 'slurs' to be both offensive and stereotypical. Rancic quickly said she never *meant* to be racist, and that she only meant to call Zendaya a 'hippie.' That's a nice backtrack, but especially when placed within the context of Rancic's glowing praise of Jenner's hair, it was clear that Rancic carries subconscious biases about Black hair. This is a classic case of 'Black features' being unacceptable on black bodies, but being accepted and praised on white bodies. What next with these Oscars??? Thanks for watching. I DO NOT own this movie! A priest from the Vatican is sent to Sao Paulo, Brazil to investigate the appearance of the face of the Virgin Mary on the side of a building. While there he hears of a statue of the Virgin Mary bleeding tears in a small town outside of the city. Meanwhile, a young woman in the U.S. begins to show signs of stigmata, the wounds of Christ. The priest from the Vatican links up with her and cares for her as she is increasingly afflicted by the stigmata. Her ranting and raving finally begins to make sense to the priest who starts to question what his religion has stood for for the last 1900 years. Stars: Patricia Arquette, Gabriel Byrne, Jonathan Pryce Stigmata - Full Movie english version
