On the 14/2/2015 Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call to a horse stuck in a ditch. The horse, called Genie had slipped down into the trench but luckily the rider escaped without injury. A fire crew from Baschurch was mobilised along with the specialist large animal rescue team from Wellington Fire station. Baschurch crews made the scene safe and ensured a vet was on route, ready for the arrival of the specialist team. SFRS crews then worked alongside each other and the Vet for around 1hour to successfully rescue Genie from the ditch. The crew used specialist equipment including the Hi-ab crane from the rescue tender which is based at Wellington. Genie was then taken home where she is recovering with a few bruises. You can follow the specialist rescue team on Twitter @SFRSWellington or contact the teams and find out how you can help. animal.rescue@shropshirefire.gov.uk

http://www.hikingequipmentsite.com/my-day-hiking/much-wenlock-circular-day-hiking-ironbridge-shropshire-england-uk/ - read more here! Much Wenlock Circular Day Hiking Ironbridge was an 11.5 miles anti-clockwise route which started in the town centre of Much Wenlock. The first leg of the trip was in a north easterly direction, mainly along the Shropshire Way route. We passed the ruins of Wenlock Priory before entering the countryside and passing through the hamlet of Wyke. We then went through Benthall Edge Woods and along Benthall Edge. Next we descended hundreds of wooden steps through the thickly wooded hillside of Ironbridge Gorge with dramatic views of the power station. Finally, we hiked along the disused railway track and crossed the now famous iron bridge into Ironbridge town. After lunch, the second leg from Ironbridge back to Much Wenlock was in an "L" shaped direction. The first section led us west through the gorge along the River Severn, over Buildwas Bridge, past Buildwas Abbey ruins and later through the woods of Buildwas Park. The second section led us south, mainly along a long and quiet country lane back to Much Wenlock. Although a quiet country lane care should be taken on the lane, especially when approaching bends. This was a well waymarked route, hiking across fields and also through woodlands and offered a great contrast between scenery views and history. Although not a difficult or very strenuous hike, the length of this route would make it a moderate grade. Note that there were a lot of paths and various waymarked trails within Benthall Woods and this could be confusing. A number of the paths have dead ends and some sections along the edges of disused quarries can be dangerous. Please stick to the route through the woods. Take great care when hiking along Benthall Edge and beware of tree roots so you do not trip over the edge. I also recommend beginners taking their time descending the hundreds of steps down into Ironbrdige Gorge. DESCRIPTION Circular Walks In Shropshire, Ludlow Walks, Heart Of England Hikes Uk was a very pleasant hike. The landscape was fairly level and quite easy to hike over except for one hill. There was a short steep climb up the hillside to Bringewood Chase. The hiking terrain included crop fields, long tarmac driveways, farm tracks, woodland paths and a short quiet country road section. Most of the hike was on firm flat surfaces with the occasional muddy section. There were a couple of rocky sections underfoot which need to be walked with care, especially if wet. http://www.HikingEquipmentSite.com/my-day-hiking - Click to find out about more Day Hiking Trips http://www.hikingequipmentsite.com - Click to get a FREE HIKING EQUIPMENT CHECKLIST

The Independent 2015-04-03Shropshire ( /ˈʃrɒpʃər/ or /ˈʃrɒpʃɪər/; alternatively Salop; abbreviated, in print only, Shrops) is a county in the West Midlands region of England. It borders Wales to the west, Cheshire to the north, Staffordshire to the east, Worcestershire to the south-east and Herefordshire to the south. A unitary authority (Shropshire Council) was created on 1 April 2009, taking over from the previous county council and 5 district councils, and covers most of the county. The borough of Telford and Wrekin, included in Shropshire for ceremonial purposes, has been a separate unitary authority since 1998.
The county's population and economy is centred on five towns: the county town of Shrewsbury, which is culturally and historically important and is located in the centre of the county;Telford, a new town in the east which was constructed around a number of older towns, most notably Wellington, Dawley and Madeley, which is today the most populous; and Oswestry in the north-west, Bridgnorth just to the south of Telford, and Ludlow in the south. The county has many further smaller towns, including Whitchurch in the north, Newport just to the north-east of Telford, and Market Drayton in the north-east of the county.
Bryn Terfel Jones CBE (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈbrɨn ˈtɛrvɛl]; born 9 November 1965) is a Welsh bass-baritone opera and concert singer. Terfel was initially associated with the roles of Mozart, particularly Figaro and Leporello, but has subsequently shifted his attention to heavier roles, especially those by Wagner.
Bryn Terfel Jones was born in Pant Glas, North Wales, the son of a farmer. His first language is Welsh. He knew of another Welsh baritone named Bryn Jones, so chose Bryn Terfel as his professional name. He had an interest in and talent for music from a very young age. A family friend taught him how to sing, starting with traditional Welsh songs. After winning numerous competitions for his singing, he moved to London in 1984 and entered the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied under Rudolf Piernay. (He has recorded that he initially applied to the music college in Cardiff but when the reply was addressed to ‘Miss Terfel’ he was so annoyed a Welsh College did not know Bryn was a man's name that he switched to London.) He graduated in 1989, winning both the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Award and the Gold Medal. The same year he came second behind Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the Cardiff BBC Singer of the World Competition, but won the Lieder Prize.
