Então ela me confiou a eles e eles me prepararam (para o casamento). Inesperadamente, o apóstolo de Allah veio a mim na parte da manhã e minha mãe me entregou a ele, e naquele tempo eu era uma menina de nove anos de idade." --- Aisha(ra) narrou 2210 ditos do profeta Mohammad ﷺ de acordo com o Livro Assiar do grande sábio Athahabi

Michael Nugent and Ali Selim discussed the recent controversy in an Irish school where a pupil brought in a copy of the Charlie Hebdo magazine for discussion in a class about France, on Today FM's The Last Word with Matt Cooper, on 6 February 2015. They also discussed the depiction of Mohammad and Jesus in Islam. At the end, a listener asked a question about Mohammad marrying Aisha at age nine. Ali Selim denied that these things happened. Here are two Hadith extracts referring to these issues. As with any controversial passage in the Quran or Hadith, there are arguments about interpretation, but it is wrong to try to close down the discussion by implying that, without having the Hadith to hand, the references do not exist. Sahih Bukhari Volume 5, Book 58, Number 234 http://www.sahih-bukhari.com/Pages/Bukhari_5_58.php The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six years. We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew again and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me for the marriage. Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age. Sahih Muslim The Book of Prayer Book 4, No 2127 http://www.sahihmuslim.com/sps/smm/ I, however, preceded him and I entered the house, and as I lay down in the bed, he the Prophet entered the house, and said: Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allaah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him the whole story. He said: Was it the darkness of your shadow that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allaah and His Prophet would deal unjustly with you?

7/29/2013 - Muslim scholar Reza Aslan joined Piers Morgan tonight to react to his Fox News online interview that went viral over the weekend. Aslan said he had an idea of what was coming, but remarked that he was "kind of embarrassed" as he sat there listening to questions about why a Muslim would have any standing to write a book about Jesus. Aslan said he normally finds it "distasteful" for academics to talk at length about their biographies, but found it necessary to patiently repeat to Lauren Green call into question his background and his faith when questioning him about his book Zealot, focusing on the life of Jesus Christ. He talked to Morgan about why he wrote the book and his personal religious journey, admitting that he feels bad for Green, since he understood where she was coming from. He assured that he has nothing against Christianity, and considers "Jesus the man" to be a fascinating character. Morgan concluded the interview by teling Aslan he "should thank Fox News" for really giving a boost to his book sales. Watch the video below, via CNN:

Why Are You Just Standing There? - Suhaib Webb - MSA National Continental Conference 2013
Wednesday Night Live with Imam Suhaib Webb.
I recently read that Suhaib Webb, the Imam and spiritual leader over at the Islamic Society of the Boston Culture Center is leaving Boston in Jan 2015. On my Facebook feed someone posted that he's coming down to DC. I'm thinking there are two major mosques in Washington DC, one being Masjid Muhammad which as I understand it has been around since the Civil Rights era. The other being the "The Islamic Center" over on Massachusetts Ave on Embassy Row, which as I understand it is administered by ambassadors, I think. So I inquire, where in DC is he coming to? The response: Arlington, VA to MakeSpace. That's like saying you're going to NYC, but turns out it's actually North Jersey :P The dynamics for NYC area is similar to that of the DC Metro area. Manhattan folks, pretty much stay on the island. Long Islanders will come into Manhattan, but really have no business in NJ. However, NJ folks will go anywhere. DC is similar in that regard. Folks in DC pretty much stay in DC. They might occasionally they'll cross the Potomac into Arlington. Folks from Southern Maryland will regularly go into DC, but most don't have any business in Virginia. But, Northern Virginia folks will drive everywhere. When talking with outsiders, typically folks from Norther Virginia will say they're from DC. Even if they live outside the 495 beltway. However, folks from Southern Maryland will usually say they're from Maryland. There is a major difference in the movement dynamics however. In New Jersey, it's fair to say that if something is 15 miles away, it's safe to say that it's 15 minutes away. But, in the DC Metro area, if something if 15 miles away, it's about 45 minutes to an hour away. Maybe more if during rush hour. Considering Arlington, VA is about three miles from DC, it'll take about 15-20 mins to get there. But, during rush hour hour it can easily get to be about 30-45 minutes. I think Make Space is an interesting social project. Considering that most major Muslim mosques across the US are communities of two types. The first being that of families that formed around the idea of their children's education, applied mainly through weekend schools or full-time Islamic schools. The other being of university students typically formed around Muslim Students' Associations in colleges across the US, or like the Islamic Center of NYU in New York City. However, for folks like myself that are young professionals, young couples, transplants into a city which they didn't grow up, and converts are pretty much left by themselves. Consider that Make Space seems like a community hoping to cater to these folks, I think this will be an interesting setup. The fact that you have someone who's traditionally educated, but have been born and raised here, and is a convert, being the face of such a social project will be interesting to see develop. Imam Suhaib, Welcome to Not-DC :P Considering you're going to be in Arlington, VA, welcome to the DC Metro Area! I look forward to benefiting from you and your presence here. I look forward to seeing you soon! #ArtofConnection

The Guardian 2015-03-28Suhaib Webb is a contemporary American-Muslim educator, activist, and lecturer. He is currently the imam of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC), the largest mosque in the New England area.
He was born William Webb in 1972 in Oklahoma to a Christian family, including a grandfather who served as a preacher. At age 14, he lost interest in religion going through a self-described spiritual crisis. He also began engaging in delinquency by joining a local gang, was involved in a drive by shooting, and became a successful local Hip-Hop DJ and producer, making records with various artists.
After converting to Islam in 1992, Webb left his career as a DJ and studied at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education. He also studied privately under a Senegalese Sheikh, learning enough Islam and Arabic to become a community leader in Oklahoma City, where he was hired as Imam at The Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City. He simultaneously started teaching at Mercy School, an Islamic K-12 school in Oklahoma City.
Abu Bakr (Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafa) (Arabic: عبد الله بن أبي قحافة, Transliteration: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Quḥāfah, c. 573 CE - 634 CE) also known as Abū Bakr as-Șiddīq (Arabic: أبو بكر الصديق) was a senior companion (Sahabi) and the father-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He ruled over the Rashidun Caliphate from 632–634 CE when he became the first Muslim Caliph following Muhammad's death. As Caliph, Abu Bakr succeeded to the political and administrative functions previously exercised by Muhammad, since the religious function and authority of prophethood ended with Muhammad's death according to Islam. He was called Al-Siddiq (The Truthful) and was known by that title among later generations of Muslims.
As a young man, Abu Bakr became a cloth merchant and he traveled extensively in Arabia and neighboring lands in the Middle East, through which he gained both wealth and experience. He eventually came to be recognized as the chief of his clan. On his return from a business trip to Yemen, he was informed that in his absence Muhammad had openly declared his prophethood. Not long after, Abu Bakr accepted Islam and was the first person outside the family of Muhammad to openly become a Muslim. He was instrumental in the conversion of many people to the Islamic faith and early in 623, Abu Bakr's daughter Aisha was married to Muhammad, strengthening the ties between the two men.
