Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting. I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours. The general travel time from Jammu to Srinagar is 7-8 hours which took over 30 hours to reach. As the bus was dropping at Srinagar while city would have been sleeping so I chose to go with person I got introduced in bus....and next day I reached to Gulmarg, my destiny, Indian Institute of skiing & mountaineering around 1 PM . A very long journey but a very beautiful journey. The beautiful scenery, first time snow falling memory, night walk in unknown kashmir, getting lost in snow.. all were my favorite times. Muzaffarabad the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), lies 80 km north-east of Pakistani capital Islamabad in foothills of the southern Karakorum Range and just 22 km east of the control line separating it from the Kashmir valley. The Neelam river, a tributary of the Kashmir valley's Jhelum river, meanders through Muzaffarabad until it reaches its confluence in the city's heartland at Domel. Before heading out of the town, the merged river forms a spectacular U-bend around Chattar area. Two further tributaries join the river before it flows into a 97.7 sq. miles reservoir for the Mangla Dam in Mirpur district. Although its majestic mountainous scenery leaves you breathless, Muzaffarabad's mountains are dwarfed by Karakorum's famous giants like the K(Karakorum)2 (8611m), Broad Peak (8,047 m) and Rakaposhi (7,788 m). These are found in northern fringes of the region making up the greatest concentration of high mountains in the world with longest and the largest glaciers outside the polar regions. The town is located at an altitude of approximately 700m and most of its surrounding hills and mountains range in height from 1000 to 1600 m. However, Pir Chinasi (3110 m) reaches height that lies well above this range. Other notable mountains and peaks in its vicinity include Pir Hasimar (2632 m approx.), Pir Chela (2860 m approx.) and Makra peak (3,586 m). In 2005 the city was struck by a catastrophic earthquake with widespread destruction and enormous loss of life. The epicentre was just 19km to the northeast. Muzaffarabad lies on a geologically active fault line associated with slow-motion collision between Indian and the Eurasian tectonic plates, going back to 40 million years. (To be completed)

India has termed as "far from reality" comment of PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that his party will get back entire Kashmir from it and asserted the integrity and unity of the country was "non negotiable". "We are in the process of looking forward and looking forward does not mean that our borders will be changed. We made it very clear that as far as we are concerned, the integrity and unity of India is non negotiable," Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry Syed Akbaruddin said. He said the comment was "far from reality which takes us back into the past century". Addressing party workers in Multan region in Punjab, Bilawal, the 'Gen-Next' politician of Pakistan, had said his PPP would get back entire Kashmir from India. "I will take back Kashmir, all of it, and I will not leave behind a single inch of it because, like the other provinces, it belongs to Pakistan," said the scion of highly influential Bhutto family. When Bilawal made these remarks, he was flanked by former prime ministers Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervaiz Asharaf. Bilawal, who has announced plans to contest next general elections in 2018, heads the secular Pakistan People's Party which officially wants good ties with India. His mother, former slain Premier Benazir Bhutto, was twice elected as prime minister while his maternal grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who founded the PPP in 1967, also served as prime minister in 1970s. Bilawal's father Asif Ali Zardari was Pakistan's president from 2008 to 2013. In J&K;, a 61.23 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the 2008 Assembly polls for these 15 seats--6 in Jammu division, 5 in Kashmir Valley and four in Ladakh. Today's polling was spread over seven districts. The overall turnout in the state in the Assembly elections in 1996 and 2012 was 53.92 per cent and 43.69 per cent respectively. "Polling has gone off absolutely peaceful without any incident. It was 100 per cent flawless polls and there was not a single incident which vitiates poll process," Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi told reporters in Delhi. Dealing a serious blow to separatist politics, thousands of voters had lined up before polling stations. Nearly 10.52 lakh voters were eligible to vote. Separatist groups like all the factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF have called for a boycott of the polls and a general strike as well in the state which has been affected by militancy for over 25 years. A total of 123 candidates including seven ministers were in the fray with the ruling coalition partners National Conference and Congress and the Opposition People's Democratic Party(PDP) and BJP fighting for the spoils. In five Kashmir Valley constituencies, two in Ganderbal district recorded 68 per cent turnout -- an increase of 13 per cent from 2008 assembly polls -- while three in Bandipora district recorded 70.30 per cent, registering an increase of 11 per cent. Sonawari consituency in the Kashmir Valley recorded a turnout as high as 80.10 percent. In six seats of Jammu division, two constituencies in Doda district recorded a turn out of 76 per cent while it was 70 per cent each for the four seats in Kishtwar and Ramban districts. While there was increase of eight per cent in Doda district and nearly four per cent in Ramban district, Kishtwar district recorded a drop of over three per cent. The four constituencies of Ladakh region, which normally witnesses high voter turnout, marked a decrease in number of voters exercising their franchise. In two constituencies of Leh district, the turn out was 57 per cent, down from 61.88 per cent in 2008 assembly polls and substantially down from 68.23 per cent registered during the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year. In Kargil district, 59 per cent voters cast their votes against 72.90 per cent in 2008 elections. Early morning chill and fog failed to dampen the spirits of the voters who had assembled at the polling stations an hour before the scheduled start of voting. The voting time had to be extended in several polling stations to allow those voters, who were already inside the polling station premises, to cast their votes. It has become an order of the day in Pakistan to join politics and indulge in corruption, he told a public gathering in Mirpur Azad Kashmir. Turning his guns again on Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari, he claimed that he had broken the partnership of the duo. He said both the leaders have plunged Pakistan into numerous crises. Before Zardari took over in 2008, “Dollar was Rs 60, and now it has reached Rs 100,” lamented Imran. He claimed that Pakistanis had bought property worth $4.3 billion in Dubai. The PTI chief reiterated that Nawaz and Zardari are top two leaders who had their assets abroad. “Go Nawaz Go will soon be chanted as judicial commission is about to be constituted to probe rigging in elections of 2013,” he said. He appealed people not to cast their vote to a leader who have their capital abroad. MQM under fire Earlier, Imran began his speech his by hitting out at MQM and its chief Altaf Hussain He said people were bludgeoned to attend MQM rally. Let’s be sure that time has come for Altaf Hussain, stressed Imran. “It is now the time that we should set aside this fear and get ourselves liberated,” he called upon people. He insisted masses to snatch their rights, instead of seeking it. Utpaladeva, an influential philosopher-theologian of the Pratyabhijna school of Shaiva thought composed the Ishvara-pratyabhijna-karika, or 'Verses on the Recognition of the Lord' and the 'Shivastotravali'. Shivastotravali Shivastotravali is a collection of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva by Acharya Utpaladeva, the great Shaivite master intensely in love with Lord Shiva and earnestly craving to be one with Him. The book comprises 450 verses arranged in twenty chapters. Each verse is soaked in the nectar of his intense devotion for the Lord and extreme craving for God-consciousness. The book represents his direct and uninhibited one one-way dialogue with Lord Shiva, projecting his problems, one at a time and seeking His indulgence in getting over these. Utpaladeva was renowned as a siddha, a perfected being, or enlightened master of the Tantric tradition in Kashmir. The Shivastotravali reflects Utpaladeva's philosophy, known as Pratyabhijna - the splendor of Self-recognition. The Shivastotravali is a collection of ecstatic devotional songs expressing the process of awakening to Shiva's supreme consciousness. This exquisite path does not require relinquishing one's home and heading for a mountain cave. Instead, it calls for changing one's view of the world and recognizing divine consciousness in oneself, in others, and in every aspect of life. This supreme state, says Utpaladeva, arises naturally through bhakti, or ardent devotion. For over a thousand years the Shaiva community of Kashmir has used in its worship the devotional songs of Utpaladeva's Shivastotravali. Each verse depicts a problem and a request for its resolution. The problem starts in a verse and ends in that verse. The next verse describes yet another problem that he wants to be resolved. He seeks solution of all his problem on the spiritual path. All obstacles on the path to become one with Lord Shiva. He is not worried about the problems that stare him in the face on his worldly path. He is ready to face whatever crises come his way in this world but he wants his spiritual path to be obstacle-free. The Shivastotravali has been called a sacred stream that flows between this world and the world of the gods, consecrating everything along its course. Madhuraja-yogin, a disciple of Abhinavagupta (and thereby a direct preceptorial descendent of Utpaladeva) so praises the Shivastotravali: " Though there are over thousands of Streams of beautiful verses, None at all compares to that Celestial river, the Stotravali. Kashmir (Balti, Gojri, Poonchi/Chibhali, Dogri: कश्मीर; Kashmiri: कॅशीर, کٔشِیر; Ladakhi: ཀཤམིར; Uyghur: كەشمىر; Shina: کشمیر) is the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term Kashmir geographically denoted only the valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal mountain range. Today Kashmir denotes a larger area that includes the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir (the Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh), the Pakistani-administered Gilgit–Baltistan and the Azad Kashmir provinces, and the Chinese-administered regions of Aksai Chin and Trans-Karakoram Tract.
In the first half of the first millennium, the Kashmir region became an important center of Hinduism and later of Buddhism; later still, in the ninth century, Kashmir Shaivism arose. In 1349, Shah Mir became the first Muslim ruler of Kashmir and inaugurated the Salatin-i-Kashmir or Swati dynasty. For the next five centuries, Muslim monarchs ruled Kashmir, including the Mughals, who ruled from 1526 until 1751, then the Afghan Durrani Empire that ruled from 1747 until 1820. That year, the Sikhs under Ranjit Singh, annexed Kashmir. In 1846, upon the purchase of the region from the British under the Treaty of Amritsar, the Dogras—under Gulab Singh—became the new rulers. Dogra Rule, under the paramountcy (or tutelage) of the British Crown, lasted until 1947, when the former princely state became a disputed territory, now administered by three countries: India, Pakistan, and the People's Republic of China.
