My wife and I took Bus 312 from Brommaplan to Adelsö Island, an island located on lake Mälaren to the west of Stockholm city centre with only 750 permanent inhabitants. The special thing about this bus route is that Adelsö has no road connection to the "mainland". Therefore, there is a bus ferry between Adelsö and the rest of the island chain (which is connected by road). The ferry is a special cable ferry rather than a propeller ferry. Adelsö
Adelsö is an island in the middle of Lake Mälaren in Sweden, near southern and northern Björkfjärden. The administrative center of the important settlement Birka (on the neighbouring island Björkö) was situated at Hovgården on Adelsö.
Geography
The Adelsö landscape consists of pine-clad rocky hills and moraine ridges dotted with fields and deciduous trees, mainly oak. The highest spot on Adelsö is Kunsta Mountain, which is 53.2 m above sea level. The top of Kunsta has an outlook tower offering a great view of the middle of Lake Mälaren.
Demographics
Adelsö has about 700 permanent residents, a number that has been quite stable throughout the centuries. Many residents commute to jobs in Stockholm, but there are also farmers and fishermen. During the summer months, the island is popular with tourists.
Transportation
Transportation to Adelsö is very good. Buses (lines 311 and 312) run from the bus terminal at Brommaplan in the middle of Bromma, to Sjöängen on Munsö. From here, the Adelson Ferry, a vehicular cable ferry crosses to Adelsö. Bus 312 travels on the ferry and traverses the whole island. The ferry runs every half hour during the day and hourly during evenings and nights. The night ferry runs less frequently during the summer months.

Runsten i Edinburgh 2013
En runsten från Lilla Ramsjö, Vittinge socken i Heby kommun fördes bort till Skottland år 1787 av Sir Alexander Seton. I dag för den en undanskymd tillvaro nedanför muren till Edinburgh Castle. Få känner till den och ingen information finns tillgänglig vid mitt besök i december 2013. Området runt runstenen är dessutom avspärrat och ett kraftigt nyuppfört staket går framför runstenen.
