The Middle East conflict is framed as one of the most complex problems in the world. But, in reality, it's very simple. Israelis want to live in peace and are willing to accept a neighboring Palestinian state. And most Palestinians do not want Israel to exist. As Dennis Prager explains, this is really all you need to know. In 5 minutes, understand how Israel was founded, and how, since that auspicious day in 1948, its neighbors have tried to destroy it, again and again. Daniel McAdams, executive director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, has been one of the many critics of US policies during the invasion of Iraq. During an in-depth interview with RT’s Ben Swann, McAdams talks about the Obama administration’s hypocrisy in asking for an AUMF in the face Bush administration’s errors, the poor care of veterans when they return to the US and the millions wasted in the years of this military operation. Even though the Entente offensive near Constantinople didn't really take off yet, the allied powers were already dreaming about splitting up the Ottoman Empire between themselves - and even promised territory to other nations. In the meantime, Austria-Hungary started its third offensive in the Carpathians to free the besieged army in Galicia. The rise of ISIS, the disintegration of Iraq, Syria’s ongoing civil war, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the promise and peril of the Arab Spring... What role should America play in the Middle East? For some, America’s restraint has been a sign of disciplined leadership. But for others, it has been a sign of diminished strength and influence. How do we strike a balance between our national interests, moral obligations, and the maintenance of world order? Are we simply recognizing the limitations of our power, or does this embattled region require a bolder, more muscular, American presence?
***For the same video without music click here: http://youtu.be/shHKbPK9c9U According to a monitoring group and local activists, ISIS did gain some new ground in Syria early Friday, seizing an eastern oil field as they try to consolidate their control of an area along the length of the Euphrates river stretching through Syria and Iraq. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the ISIS fighters seized the al-Tanak oil field. Another group, the activist collective of Deir el-Zour, also reported the seizure. The field is in the eastern Syrian province of Deir el-Zour, near Iraq, and it followed ISIS' seizure of Syria's largest oil field on Thursday. Both oil fields were taken from other rebel groups. ISIS now has nearly full control over a corridor from the Syrian provincial capital of Deir el-Zour to the border town of Boukamal. The area neighbors parts of northern and western Iraq that it seized last month, allowing the group to flow freely between the two countries. The group is led by an ambitious Iraqi militant known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who this week declared the establishment of an Islamic state, or caliphate, in the lands it has seized in Syria and Iraq. The claim has been dismissed by officials in the region and, notably, also by many other jihadist leaders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEYlpxbZWqc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dcsyzj4U_0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdgzCbrPqzQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwL0Gjx3aZc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAxeWfpIEoU

The Middle East, already the world’s most volatile region, faces some of its toughest challenges in a century: Borders have been redrawn in Syria and Iraq. States from Libya to Yemen are collapsing. Autocracy is again on the rise in Egypt. And diplomacy is teetering with Iran. Meanwhile, the United States is being sucked back into the region. Come hear four top experts explore the crises of 2015, the stakes, and where they’re headed.
Sen. Richard Black (R-Va.) has thrown his support behind the Syrian government and its army for its protection of Christian minorities during the country’s civil war, while also condemning America’s policies in aligning itself with the rebel fighters in the region. RT’s Ben Swann has an exclusive interview with the senator and goes deeper into his letter to Syrian President Bashar Assad. He cautions that should Assad be kicked out, the rest of the region would fall to the Islamic State. In the 14th century a Muslim historian named Ibn Khaldun wrote about the pattern of history. Farmers would build irrigation systems supporting villages and towns. Later some warrior would bring these towns under his rule and form a united political entity, like a kingdom or an empire. Then a tribe of nomads would come along and conquer the kingdom, seize all the holdings and settle in their place and further expand the new empire. As time went by the nomads would assimilate and become soft city dwellers. Exactly the kind of people they had conquered and at this point another tribe of nomads would come along and conquer them and take their empire. Conquest, consolidation, expansion, degeneration and conquest, this was the pattern of history. Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, modern Turkey and other hot spots are born as the British and French divide the "fruits of victory" in World War I. Written and produced by Marty Callaghan, this film follows conflict from the Ottoman Empire's entry into the Great War in October 1914 to the Allied victory and declaration of the new Turkish Republic in 1923, and the hostilities that have plagued the region since.
http://democracynow.org - As nuclear talks advance before a March 31 deadline, we look at the fallout from the Republican open letter warning Iran against reaching an agreement with the United States. On Monday, a group of 47 Senate Republicans told Iran the deal could be nixed by a Republican-led Congress or future Republican president. "We will consider any agreement regarding your nuclear-weapons program that is not approved by the Congress as nothing more than an executive agreement between President Obama and Ayatollah Khamenei," they wrote. We discuss the fallout from this unprecedented letter with two guests: Hillary Mann Leverett, a former official at the National Security Council who served as a U.S. negotiator with Iran and co-authored the book "Going to Tehran: Why America Must Accept the Islamic Republic of Iran"; and Ali Gharib, a contributor to The Nation magazine. The Middle East Institute and the Arab American Institute were pleased to host a panel discussion about a new poll released by Zogby Research Services. Conducted in eight Middle East and North Africa countries, the poll titled "Today's Middle East: Pressures & Challenges," surveyed regional attitudes on the emergence of ISIS, the role of the Muslim Brotherhood, the growth of sectarianism, the future of Syria and Iraq, Iran's nuclear program, and more. While the poll confirmed many prevailing assumptions about regional outlooks, it revealed some surprising shifts in public opinion. A key finding is that despite deep regional antipathy towards ISIS, there is popular opposition to any Western-led intervention and extremely low support for U.S. policies - two factors which may become a significant challenge to the efficacy of the current U.S.-led military campaign against the group. The poll was conducted in November 2014 by Zogby Research Services for the Sir Bani Yas Forum, an annual event co-hosted by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and surveyed over 7,500 adults across eight countries.

Prostitution, one of history's oldest occupations, although a very controversial issue, is still prevalent throughout the Middle East. It is also becoming increasingly common for Middle Eastern girls to work in this industry in Europe. In this episode of Forbidden Talk, we shall be discussing the various sides of the industry with a panel of experts and in particular exploring why educated women see escorting as a legitimate career choice and, on the other of the spectrum, what can be done to help women and men who are forced into prostitution as a result of being trafficked or due to desperation as a result of war.

Big News Network 2015-04-10The Middle East or Mideast is a region that encompasses Western Asia and all of or part of Northern Africa, depending on the context. The term is considered to be Eurocentric and used as a synonym for Near East, in opposition to Far East. The corresponding adjective is Middle-Eastern and the derived noun is Middle-Easterner.
The history of the Middle East dates back to ancient times, and throughout its history, the Middle East has been a major centre of world affairs. When discussing ancient history, however, the term Near East is more commonly used. The Middle East is also the historical origin of major religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas. Many countries located around the Persian Gulf have large quantities of crude oil. In modern times the Middle East remains a strategically, economically, politically, culturally and religiously sensitive region.[clarification needed] The Middle East's expected economic growth rate is at about 4.1% for 2010 and 5.1% in 2011.
World War I (WWI), which was predominantly called the World War or the Great War from its occurrence until 1939 (World War II), and the First World War or World War I thereafter, was a major war centred in Europe that began on 28 July 1914 and lasted until 11 November 1918. It involved all the world's great powers, which were assembled in two opposing alliances: the Allies (based on the Triple Entente of the United Kingdom, France and Russia) and the Central Powers (originally centred around the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy; but, as Austria–Hungary had taken the offensive against the agreement, Italy did not enter into the war). These alliances both reorganised (Italy fought for the Allies), and expanded as more nations entered the war. Ultimately more than 70 million military personnel, including 60 million Europeans, were mobilised in one of the largest wars in history. More than 9 million combatants were killed, largely because of enormous increases in lethality of weapons, thanks to new technology, without corresponding improvements in protection or mobility. It was the sixth-deadliest conflict in world history, subsequently paving the way for various political changes such as revolutions in the nations involved.
The Middle East one day, it blew in, swept away
In comes the sunshine, story turned to strange
In walking comes a smile, I didn't know the day
She sits down beside me, perfectly arranged
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
She wanders all around, will she make it on fries and coffee
Bigger words then tears, I'm afraid of what it might be
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
And she's bouncing in and out of nowhere
Ain't nobody help me on the outside
Gotta make it through to the inside
And I'm talking strange
Ain't nobody help me on the outside
Gotta make it through to the inside
And I'm talking strange
Talking strange
Laura's gone away, I don't know just how long she'll be there
Sadly eyes of pain are bouncing in and out of nowhere
It's alright, she leaves it all behind
We all run for the Middle East sometimes
Little mind yeah can take us anywhere
Escape us anywhere, escape us everywhere
