Lyrics (with footnotes): I am the very model of a celebrant of Chanukah With information relevant from cooking to sermonica I know halachic (1) principles that govern the menorah flames And where the mentions of these days are hidden in the Torah names (2) I can recount in Ancient greek the story of the Macabees Including the obscurer bits that explicate why we eat cheese (3) And also how Antiochus turned more and more to lunacy To set the stage for what became Hasmonean hypocrisy (4) The sages of a later time were unimpressed with dynasties They sought to downplay all the wars and needed that on which to sieze A miracle was sought and found to replace the bloody chronicle And thus the very model for a celebrant of Chanukah So Chanukah receives its name from subjects quite Levitical Rededication of the shrine if you want want to be that literal When Macabees arrived they found the temple left in disarray The Greeks had setup idols there and no place left was fit to pray The desecration quite porcine by Hellenistic foes did yield A need for oil, olivine, embossed with priestly mark still sealed The vial found contained a bit, enough for merely one days worth But wondrously it lasted for eight rotations of the earth So oil lasted long enough to restitute the lost supplies And this constitutes a miracle in even a curmudgeon's eyes In short, Citing this happening and its inspired moniker Became the very model for a celebrant of Chanukah And chanukah is not a slouch in symbols mathematical The candles sum is 36 a number more than practical The meaning of this double chai knows any seminarian And corresponds, or says a source, to hours prelapsarian (5) The flames themselves can be produced from any substance that ignites Each candle lines up one by one, except the shamash there for light The wick and fuel must be enough to last till there are passersby And placed no higher then the range expected for a person's eye (6) The candle light is then declared off limits for its normal use The point is just to spread the word that something happened for the Jews (7) In short, whether traditional or lighting electronica This is the very model for a celebrant of Chanukah And I can make a latke that is totally original Frying esoteric vegetables with olive oil virginal And donuts that are dripping with sweet jellies flavored sinfully So dieticians and the like will surely have it in for me The gifts I give accentuate the spirit of this festive time My chanukiah is in good taste and made to stand the test of time In short in matters ranging ritualistic to sermonica I am the very model of a celebrant of Chanukah (8) 1 Halacha is the process of Jewish law 2 Chanukah is post-biblical but sources connect its themes to some passages in the Torah. For instance, the first letters Mi kamocha baelim adonai "Who is like you O G*d" spell out MACCABI in Hebrew 3 Cheese is a lesser known food associated with Chanukah. The practice connects to a story of how the heroine Judith used milk then wine to decapacitate, then decapitate the enemy Holofornes 4 The Maccabees became the rulers of the Hasmonean dynasty. Very soon there were was infighting, abuse of power, and, alas, an end to Jewish independence once again. This made the Rabbis ambivalent about celebrating the Maccabees rather than the miracle. 5 According to the Rokeach the 36 candles used for Chanukah correspond to 36 hours of light in the Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve “fell” from paradise (ie, prelapsarian) 6 These laws are found in the Talmud (Shabbat 21a). 7 Traditionally a ritual formula (Hanerot Hallalu) follows the lighting of candles to declare that they are special and only lit to make known the miracle and, except for the Shamash, they are not used for their light or their flame at all. 8 Happy Chanukah!!!! (It had to get to eight, right?)

Jordan a Biblical land Travel - Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a country in the Middle East. It shares control of the Dead Sea with Israel. Jordans only port is at its southern tip, at the Red Seas Gulf of Aquaba, which it shares with Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Much of Jordan is covered by the Arabian Desert. However, the north-western part of Jordan is part of the Ancient Fertile Crescent. The capital city is Amman. During its history, Jordan has seen numerous civilizations, including such ancient eastern ones as the Canaanite and later other Semitic peoples such as the Edomites, and the Moabites. Other civilizations possessing political sovereignty and influence in Jordan were: Akkadian, Assyrian, Judean, Babylonian, and Persian empires. Jordan was for a time part of Pharaonic Egypt, the Hasmonean Dynasty of the Maccabees, and also spawned the native Nabatean civilization which left rich archaeological remains at Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World located in the Maan Governorate. Cultures from the west also left their mark, such as the Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Turkish empires. Since the seventh century the area has been under Muslim and Arab cultures, with the exception of a brief period when the west of the area formed part of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem and a short time under British rule. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy with representative government. The reigning monarch is the head of state, the chief executive and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The king exercises his executive authority through the prime ministers and the Council of Ministers, or cabinet. The cabinet, meanwhile, is responsible before the democratically elected House of Deputies which, along with the House of Notables (Senate), constitutes the legislative branch of the government. The judicial branch is an independent branch of the government. Jordan is a modern Arab nation, its population is 92% Sunni Muslim with a small Christian minority. Jordanian society is predominantly urbanized. Jordan is classified as an emerging market with a free market economy by the CIA World Fact Book. Jordan has more Free Trade Agreements than any other country in the Arab World. Jordan is a pro-Western regime with very close relations with the United States and the United Kingdom. It became a major non-NATO ally in 1996, and is one of only two Arab nations, the other being Egypt, that have diplomatic relations with Israel. It is a founding member of the Arab League, the WTO, the AFESD, the Arab Parliament, the AIDMO, the AMF, the IMF, the International Criminal Court, the UNHRC, the GAFTA, the ESCWA, the ENP and the United Nations. Jordan is also currently undergoing close integration with the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Jordan expects to receive advanced status with the EU by 2011. Mary Magdalene (original Greek Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνή), or Mary of Magdala and sometimes The Magdalene, is a religious figure in Christianity. She is often thought of as the second-most important woman in the New Testament after Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary Magdalene traveled with Jesus as one of his followers. She was present at Jesus' two most important moments: the crucifixion and the resurrection. Within the four Gospels she is named at least 12 times, more than most of the apostles. The Gospel references describe her as courageous, brave enough to stand by Jesus in his hours of suffering, death and beyond. The Gospel of Luke says seven demons had gone out of her,[Lk. 8:2] and the longer ending of Mark says Jesus had cast seven demons out from her.[Mk. 16:9] The "seven demons" may refer to a complex illness, not to any form of sinfulness. She is most prominent in the narrative of the crucifixion of Jesus, at which she was present, and of the events on the morning after the immediately following sabbath, when, according to all four canonical Gospels,[Matthew 28:1–8] [Mark 16:9–10] [Luke 24:10] [John 20:18] she was either alone or as a member of a group of women the first to testify to the resurrection of Jesus. John 20 and Mark 16:9 specifically name her as the first person to see Jesus after his resurrection. Mary Magdalene was there at the "beginning of a movement that was going to transform the West". She was the "Apostle to the Apostles", an honorific that fourth-century orthodox theologian Augustine gave her and that others earlier had possibly conferred on her. Ideas that go beyond the gospel presentation of Mary Magdalene as a prominent representative of the women who followed Jesus have been put forward over the centuries. These include giving her a role similar to that of Simon Peter among the male disciples, believing that she had been a harlot, or that she was the secret lover or wife of Jesus and the mother of their child. Mary Magdalene is considered to be a saint by the Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican and Lutheran churches — with a feast day of July 22. Other Protestant churches honor her as a heroine in the faith. The Eastern Orthodox churches also commemorate her on the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers, the Orthodox equivalent of one of the Western Three Marys traditions. Mary was a very common name in New Testament times, held by a number of women in the canonical Gospels. The reception history of Mary Magdalene has been greatly affected by different interpretations as to which biblical references actually refer to her, beyond those where she is identified by the toponym "Magdalene". Historically, the Greek Orthodox church Fathers, as a whole, distinguished among what they believed were three Marys: The Virgin Mary, mother of Christ Mary of Bethany, the sister of Martha and Lazarus Luke 10:38-42 and John 11 Mary Magdalene In addition, there were Mary, the mother of James and Mary Salome. In the four Gospels, Mary Magdalene is nearly always distinguished from other women named Mary by adding "the Magdalene" (ἡ Μαγδαληνή) to her name. This has been interpreted to mean "the woman from Magdala", a town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee. Luke 8:2 says that she was actually "called Magdalene". In Hebrew מגדל Migdal means "tower", "fortress"; in Aramaic, "Magdala" means "tower" or "elevated, great, magnificent". Talmudic passages speak of a Miriam "hamegadela se’ar nasha", "Miriam, the plaiter of women’s hair" (Hagigah 4b; cf. Shabbat 104b), which could be a reference to Mary Magdalene serving as a hairdresser. In the Gospel of John, Mary Magdalene is also referred to simply as "Mary" at least twice. Gnostic writings use Mary, Mary Magdalene, or Magdalene. Mary Magdalene's name is mostly given as Μαρία (Maria), but in Matthew 28:1 as Μαριάμ (Mariam), both of which are regarded as Greek forms of Miriam, the Hebrew name for Moses' sister. The name had become very popular during Jesus' time due to its connections to the ruling Hasmonean and Herodian dynasties.
The Bible declares that God hates Esau. Esau Edom hated his birthright, a gift from God. Esau was Jacob Israel's brother and Abraham's grandson King Herod who built the temple in the days of Jesus was an edomite. Obadiah 1:8 - Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau? Malachi 1:3 - And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. Romans 9:13 - As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. Obadiah 1:18 - And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it. Gen 36:9 - And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir: Deu 2:5 - Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. Ezekiel 35:15 - As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD. From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antipater_the_Idumaean "Antipater I the Idumaean (died 43 BC) was the founder of the Herodian Dynasty and father of Herod the Great. According to Josephus, he was the son of Antipas (I) and had formerly held that name.[1]" "A native of Idumaea, southeast of Judea between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba, which during the time of the Hebrew Bible had been known as the land of Edom,[2] Antipater became a powerful official under the later Hasmonean kings and subsequently became a client of the Roman general Pompey the Great when Pompey conquered Judea in the name of Roman Republic." "When Julius Caesar defeated Pompey, Antipater rescued Caesar in Alexandria, and was made chief minister of Judea, with the right to collect taxes."

Ha'aretz 2013-01-21The Hasmonean dynasty (/hæzməˈniːən/; Hebrew: חשמונאים Hashmonayim; Audio), was the ruling dynasty of Judea and surrounding regions during classical antiquity. Between c. 140 and c. 116 BCE, the dynasty ruled semi-autonomously from the Seleucids in the region of Judea. From 110 BCE, with the Seleucid empire disintegrating, the dynasty became fully independent, expanded in to the neighbouring regions of Galilee, Iturea, Perea, Idumea and Samaria, and took the title "basileus". Some modern scholars refer to this period as an independent kingdom of Israel. In 63 BCE, the kingdom was conquered by the Roman Republic, broken up and set up as a Roman client state. The Kingdom had survived for 103 years before yielding to the Herodian Dynasty in 37 BCE. Even then, Herod the Great tried to bolster the legitimacy of his reign by marrying a Hasmonean princess, Mariamne, and planning to drown the last male Hasmonean heir at his Jericho palace.
