In which John Green teaches you about the Bronze Age civilization in what we today call the middle east, and how the vast, interconnected civilization that encompassed Egypt, The Levant, and Mesopotamia came to an end. What's that you say? There was no such civilization? Your word against ours. John will argue that through a complex network of trade and alliances, there was a loosely confederated and relatively continuous civilization in the region. Why it all fell apart was a mystery. Was it the invasion of the Sea People? An earthquake storm? Or just a general collapse, to which complex systems are prone? We'll look into a few of these possibilities. As usual with Crash Course, we may not come up with a definitive answer, but it sure is a lot of fun to think about. The Bronze Age in southern Scandinavia surpasses most of bronze age europe. It is the richest period of finds, crafts, creativity and artistic expression. Only in Mycenaean Greece there is an equivalent in findings. In Scandinavia it developed over 1000 years the prime Bronze Age craftsmanship and crafts in Europe. Large quantities of buried amber treasures has been found from Bronze Age Scandinavia. Amber was also a very important commodity in countries around the mediterranean sea. Tutankhamun was buried with an amber held over his heart. Amber was seen as magical during the Bronze Age and was used for jewelry. In the richest graves of Mycenae in Greece, it has been found large collars of amber. Modern analysis shows that those amber comes from the Baltic Sea. The Nordic bronze age fits also the Greeks description of their contact with the Hyperboreans in the far north. Amber seems ta have been the Nordic gold during the Bronze Age. Revolutions: The Age of Metal and the Evolution of European Civilization William Parkinson Membership Lecture, The New Mexico History Museum Auditorium Thursday, December 1, 2011, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm The evolution of agricultural villages in Europe, from their beginning in the Neolithic through their fluorescence during the Bronze Age, is the subject of this illustrated lecture. Historically, scholars assumed that most innovations, including in metallurgy, occurred earlier in the Near East and only later moved into the European continent. Advances in absolute dating and other research techniques prove otherwise. Sponsored by Carole Ely and Robert Wickham, AV Systems and Walter Burke Catering Video editing by SAR volunteer John Sadd

How did they build boats in the Bronze Age? That is a question that academics from the University of Exeter hope to find out in the coming months in a new installation and exhibition at National Maritime Museum Cornwall. In a project that is set to last 5 or more months, professional boatbuilder Brian Cumby and a team of volunteers are re-creating a large replica Bronze Age stitched boat using traditional tools and materials. This video shows the progress for the first month and we shall continue the series monthly. The music to this video was created for falmouthphotos.com by the following people. Welcome to Bronze Age Immorality Exodus. In this on going series, selected verses within the book of Exodus will be discussed from a skeptical perspective. Scrutiny will be given to extreme violence, immorality, and injustice, which in most cases are never brought up to the parishioners at a weekly congregation. The verses brought up in this series aren't children friendly, so if you have a child around, or are a child, it would be a wise suggestion for you to close your browser, press the pause button, or simply leave the room. I have the honor of inviting my first special guest to my show! His name is Mike aka ForbiddenFruit. He's a atheist activist YouTuber who does the same thing I do in the case of analyzing biblical scripture, morality, and religious history. He will be reading all selected verses for this presentation and we will both commentate on said verses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Forbidden Fruit's channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoUKxd7BErbKEGfyNfsGzSQ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/sintality

The Late Bronze Age collapse was a transition in the Aegean Region, Southwestern Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age that historians, such as Amos Nur and Leonard R. Palmer, believe was violent, sudden and culturally disruptive. The palace economy of the Aegean Region and Anatolia which characterised the Late Bronze Age was replaced, after a hiatus, by the isolated village cultures of the Greek Dark Ages. Between 1206 and 1150 BCE, the cultural collapse of the Mycenaean kingdoms, the Hittite Empire in Anatolia and Syria, and the New Kingdom of Egypt in Syria and Canaan interrupted trade routes and severely reduced literacy. In the first phase of this period, almost every city between Pylos and Gaza was violently destroyed, and often left unoccupied thereafter: examples include Hattusa, Mycenae, and Ugarit. This film was produced by DecaDance for the Norwegian LARP Svart natt, rød demring, also known as Styggsnipa. It was shown during the LARP on a rigged TV, cutting into a weather broadcast, to the surprised delight and horror of the participants. The film portrays the ghosts of nazi soldiers attempting - and failing miserably - to evoke the Bronze Age Goddess Hnerwathus for occult warfare purposes. Producers: Gudmund Saksvik and Espen Høe.
The 23rd Historic Video Documentary from my series 'Stories from the River of Time." Labbacallee was erected over 4000 years ago at the very end of the Stone Age and the beginning of the Bronze Age. Man had colonised the Blackwater Valley up to 5000 years earlier and for millennia people fished along the rivers which teemed with salmon and eel. They hunted and gathered everything else they needed from the densely-forested interior. The building of Labbacallee is an indication that, by 2000 BC, agriculture provided the inhabitants of the Blackwater Valley with the reserves of food, time and manpower required to undertake such large-scale adventures.

http://tinyurl.com/pkx8lby Formulated by Victoria Landsford, renowned metalsmith and artist and author of the Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters: Russian Filigree DVD, this powdered solder begins with a traditional recipe, then is given a touch of flux to better serve the modern metalsmith. The exceptionally fine texture of this powdered solder allows the artist to use much less to accomplish the same job—especially ideal for Russian filigree and other fine work. Powdered solder is suitable for Russian filigree with sterling frames and fine silver filler wire, 18-karat gold frames and fine silver filler wire, and Argentium® Silver frames and filler wire. The solder flows like an easy solder but, because much of the zinc burns off once it has flowed, in subsequent rounds of soldering it behaves like a medium solder. This feature allows the same solder to be used in multiple rounds of soldering on very fine wire with no risk of collapse in previously soldered areas. To use, simply tip a small amount of powder into the lid or a small cup and mix in a few drops of distilled water until the desired consistency is achieved.

Lecture by Calla McNamee (Post-Doctoral Fellow, Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science, A.S.C.S.A.; Visiting Scholar, Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Calgary) - 4 March 2015 Until recently, the reconstruction of subsistence practices in the Aegean has relied heavily on the recovery and identification of charred macrobotanical remains from site contexts, typically from storerooms. This type of reconstruction provides us with an understanding of the foods present at an archaeological site, but it is heavily dependent on specific circumstances of preservation and does not inform us directly about food processing or consumption. This lecture is focused on the use of another type of evidence: starch grains and phytoliths. Commonly preserved on grinding implements, these microbotanical remains provide a means to identify not only which staple resources were processed at a site, but also to reconstruct practices employed in the preparation of these resources. This talk provides a background on microbotanical residue analysis and presents the results of a pilot study of starch grains and phytoliths extracted from ground stone artifacts recovered from the prehistoric site of Mitrou, East Lokris. The occupation of Mitrou spans from the Final Neolithic to the Late Protogeometric period and provides an uninterrupted archaeological sequence that encompasses the rise and decline of Mycenaean palatial society and the subsequent transition from urban centre to rural community. The pilot study of Mitrou ground stone tools demonstrates the ability of starch grain and phytolith research to enhance our understanding of not only Bronze Age resource processing, but the relationship between subsistence practices and socio-political organization.

The Guardian 2015-03-11The Bronze Age is a period characterized by the use of copper and its alloy bronze as the chief hard materials in the manufacture of some implements and weapons. Chronologically, it stands between the Stone Age and Iron Age. The term Stone Age implies the inability to smelt any ore, the term Bronze Age implies the inability to smelt iron ore and the term Iron Age implies the ability to manufacture artifacts in any of the three types of hard material. Their arrangement in the archaeological chronology reflects the difficulty of manufacture in the history of technology.
During the past few centuries of detailed, scientific study of the Bronze Age, it has become clear that on the whole, the use of copper or bronze was only the most stable and therefore the most diagnostic part of a cluster of features marking the period. In addition to the creation of bronze from raw materials and the widespread use of bronze tools and weapons, the period continued development of pictogramic or ideogramic symbols and proto-writing, and other features of urban civilization.
