Rev. Prof. Cupitt consideredly meanders through the works and lives of a miscellany of thoughtful coves including Galileo, Pascal, David Strauss, Kierkegaard, Jung, Schopenhaurer, Annie Besant, Vivekananda, Albert Schweitzer, Nietzsche, Wittgenstein and others. This learned, yet accessible, and frankly slightly odd series, is just the sort of thing you don't see on TV anymore. I believe this series is still available on DVD via the "Sea of Faith Network". http://www.sofn.org.uk/pages/dvd.html ~~Terms~~ Don Cupitt's 1984 BBC documentary "Sea of Faith" Full, entire, complete, whole Episode 5 Religion Shock, Reverend Professor Cupitt. Annie Besant (1 October 1847 – 20 September 1933) was a prominent British socialist, theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator and supporter of Irish and Indian self-rule. At age 20 she married Frank Besant, but separated from him over religious differences. She then became a prominent speaker for the National Secular Society (NSS) and writer and a close friend of Charles Bradlaugh. In 1877 they were prosecuted for publishing a book by birth control campaigner Charles Knowlton. The scandal made them famous, and Bradlaugh was elected M.P. for Northampton in 1880. Annie Besant daughter of William Wood and Emily Morris was born in 1847 at Clapham, London. In 1866, at the age of Nineteen, Annie married Mr. Frank Besant, who was a vicar. She was deeply unhappy because her independent spirit clashed with the traditional views of her husband. They separated in 1873. Then she completely rejected Christianity and joined secular society in 1874. In 1890, she became the supporter of theosophy which was based on the Hindu ideas of Karma and reincarnation with nirvana. Theosophical Society was against race, color and gender. She became the member of "the Theosophical Society of India" in 1893. In India she founded Central Hindu College in Banaras in 1898. She tried to instill patriotism and contemporary spirit in the youth of India. In 1916, she established the "Indian Home Rule League". She started a newspaper "New India" criticizing British rule and was jailed for sedition. Mrs. Besant and Lokmanya Tilak worked together for the common cause of making India Independent. She died in 1933, and was cremated at Banaras on the Bank of river Ganga. She was eighty six years old. Annie Besant was the most outstanding figure amongst the Britons who played active role in the struggle for the cause of Indian Nationalism.

The interview talk about how the society was hijacked and changed after her death. We talk about Annie Bessant, Alice Bailey, Rudolf Steiner, Krishnamurti and Edward Bulwer Lytton. We also talk about the infiltration of other Secret Societies and some of the strategies behind the Bavarian Illuminati. Towards the end we talk about the diversity that one can encounter when researching everything from philosophy to conspiracy. I also pose the question if modern truth movements like the "9/11 truth movement" also is in danger of being infiltrated by agents provocateur, or has that already happened?

Kashmir Observer 2015-01-16Annie Besant (/ˈbɛsənt/; née Wood, 1 October 1847 – 20 September 1933) was a prominent British Theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator and supporter of Irish and Indian self rule.
She was married at 19 to Frank Besant but separated from him over religious differences. She then became a prominent speaker for the National Secular Society (NCS) and writer and a close friend of Charles Bradlaugh. In 1877 they were prosecuted for publishing a book by birth control campaigner Charles Knowlton. The scandal made them famous and Bradlaugh was elected Member of Parliament for Northampton in 1880.
She became involved with Union organisers including the Bloody Sunday demonstration and the London matchgirls strike of 1888 and was a leading speaker for the Fabian Society and the Marxist Social Democratic Federation (SDF). She was elected to the London School Board for Tower Hamlets, topping the poll even though few women were qualified to vote at that time.
In 1890 Besant met Helena Blavatsky and over the next few years her interest in Theosophy grew while her interest in secular matters waned. She became a member of the Society and a highly successful lecturer in Theosophy. As part of her Theosophy-related work, she travelled to India where in 1898 she helped establish the Central Hindu College, and in 1902 she established the first overseas Lodge of the International Order of Co-Freemasonry, Le Droit Humain in England. Over the next few years she established lodges in many parts of the British Empire. In 1907 she became President of the Theosophical Society.
