In this episode of the Keiser Report back in London, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss the Greek situation and that a nation is not what it thinks it is but what others attempt to hide about that nation - like the fact that it is bankrupt. They discuss the role Goldman Sachs played in helping Greece hide its debts and, thus, strapping it to the euro and the mispricing of real risk by well-compensated bond investors lending to Greece at ultra low interest rates. They also discuss that, while deflated footballs was the main headline on the nightly news in America, a memo was delivered to Obama outlining the various ways that brokers defraud American investors of years worth of retirement income. But many of those who've crossed illegally into Greece have found that they have traded one bad situation for another. Refugees from war-torn countries like Syria and Afghanistan are finding themselves stuck in a country that is not only battling an economic crisis but is witnessing a rise in anti-immigrant violence, exemplified by the a nationalist political party known as the Golden Dawn. VICE News' Alex Miller travelled from Athens to the western port of Patras to find out what it is like to be trapped in a country you never wanted to be in in the first place. Both the EU and Greece say the country should remain in the eurozone, but creditors are resisting pressure from the new Greek government to write off massive debts. As a result, the future of Greece's bailout is in doubt and the country faces a possible exit from the euro, the so-called "Grexit". BBC News explains the issue in 60 seconds. The three-day celebration traditionally culminates in a mass protest that ends in Exarcheia, an artist neighborhood generally considered to be the spiritual home of the anarchist movement. VICE News attended this year’s demonstration, in which protesters were met with an unprecedented level of police brutality. Greek riot police used tear gas, flash bangs, and batons against protesters till the early hours, in what appeared to be a complete crackdown on any form of civil disobedience. Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News In September 2013, Greek authorities took the unprecedented action of arresting a number of members of the far-right political organization Golden Dawn — including its leader, Nikos Michaloliakos. In the wake of the economic crisis, Golden Dawn has risen to become Greece’s third major political party, despite regular reports linking the organization to hate crimes. The trigger for these arrests was the murder of Pavlos Fyssas a.k.a. Killah P, a rapper whose songs often carried anti-fascist sentiments. His death sparked an investigation into Golden Dawn, leading to members being charged with crimes including murder, running a criminal organization, weapons offenses, and reported assaults on immigrants. In the days surrounding the first anniversary of Fyssa's death, VICE News traveled to Greece to attend a protest in the rapper's memory and see how the events of the past year have affected Greece’s anti-fascist movement. Germany rejects a Greek request for a six-month extension of its EU loan program, setting the stage for a showdown in bailout talks on Friday. Berlin dismissed the proposal from Athens as not substantive and insisted the country stick to its existing austerity plan. Greece had sought a temporary assistance package to avoid running out of cash, rather than a renewal of the existing deal. The country's new anti-austerity government is trying to get easier payback terms for its 240-billion euro bailout program. In a sign that a deal could be salvaged, German and Greek leaders held talks by telephone. The discussions were described as positive. EU finance ministers will meet on Friday again for the third time in just over a week to try to reach a deal with Athens. Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News On December 6, protests in Athens and other Greek cities broke out on the sixth anniversary of the killing of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos, who was shot in 2008 by a policeman in the district of Exarcheia, a neighborhood in central Athens known as the spiritual home of anarchists. Annual demonstrations have been organized by many different leftist groups, students, and particularly anarchists, to commemorate the teen's killing and to protest against police violence. The protests often culminate in clashes between protestors and police. VICE News attended the 2014 demonstrations, which this year had an additional cause: to support 21-year-old Nikos Romanos, who put himself on hunger strike after authorities prevented him from attending university while in prison — a contravention of Greek law. Romanos, a self-declared anarchist and the best friend of Grigoropoulos, is behind bars for armed robbery. A few days after the protests, Romanos ended his four-week hunger strike after reaching a compromise with authorities. All eyes are on Greece, as investors wait for news of a possible debt deal, as the country seeks $11 billion and looks to renegotiate the terms of its bailout program. Fears of a 'Grexit' from the eurozone were also fanned once again on Tuesday, which would have significant implications for the euro. Exit polls suggest a historic victory for the anti-austerity Syriza party in Greece's closely fought general election. One poll suggested Syriza took 35.5% of the votes, while another suggested it took 39.5% - well ahead of the ruling New Democracy party on 23%-27%. It is unclear whether Syriza has enough votes to govern the country alone, as Mark Lowen reports.
A growing business relationship is developing between China and crisis-ridden Greece, where unemployment is at a record high. Greek companies are increasing exports to the Chinese market, although they are still only one-twentieth of what China sells there. One company just outside Athens, carbonated drinks producer Frutop, has tripled its exports last year, thanks to sales to China. And at the historic sights of Greece, Chinese tourists are arriving in growing numbers - a welcome boost for the country's biggest industry. Mark Lowen reports.

Newly-elected Greek officials, including Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and finance minister Yannis Varoufakis, are touring Europe to drum up support for a new debt plan. But attitudes to Greece's attempt to renegotiate its bail-out program vary widely from Madrid to Berlin. What reaction is likely to be from Berlin to Madrid - and crucially from the European Central bank? Also: banks face billions more dollars in fines for financial misbehaviour - that's the forecast from Morgan Stanley but do those fines ever have much effect on banks' earnings? And does the past bad behaviour of banks turn young people away from a career in finance?

Top Documentary Films: The Bizarre World of Ancient Greece The Greek civilization is considered by historians as the first one in the history of mankind. A study of their archeological remains confirms that the ancient Greeks were a highly developed community. Their lifestyle and inventions indicate a high sense of order and aesthetics. The ancient Greeks built houses along the shores of the land. They were dependent on the Aegean seas for their food supplies and other trade. Traveling brought them in contact with other cultures. They gained exposure to various agricultural methods and different types of metal work. Different communities arose from the ancient Greece civilization. Some of them were the Aegean, Achaeans and the Pelasgians. Crete was the center of the Aegean civilization and was the dominant community in 2500 BC. The Achaeans made Mycenae their capital. A volcano caused the destruction of the Aegean community around 1400bc. The Mycenaeans absorbed the culture of the Aegean community. In course of time, Greek settlements were transformed into city-states or poleis and each city-state was ruled by a king. The government was usually unstable due to the tyranny of the aristocrats. Democracy was hardly ever practiced. The ancient Greeks were very keen on sports. The great athletic contest called the Olympic games began in 776 BC, which marked the beginning of the rise of the Greek civilization. At that point of time, Greek ideas were greatly influenced by many different foreign cultures. Artists were focusing on recreating human figures of mythology. The civilization saw its zenith around 500 BC. Excellence was seen in the fields of philosophy, art and literature. Wars with other civilizations began in 490 BC and the superior Greek armies overran their opponents to establish their supremacy. The ancient age of Greek civilization saw the birth of great philosophers like Pluto, Socrates, and the great emperor, Alexander. The ancient Greeks were pagan. They prayed to the various elements of nature. They believed that favorable climate and good crops occurred when the gods were pleased. When things turned bad, they attributed it to the wrath of the gods. They performed sacrifices to appease the enraged gods. Ancient Greeks were essentially simple-minded folks who left behind a beautiful legacy of art, philosophy and literature. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Greece http://www.ancientgreece.com/s/Main_Page/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/ancient_greeks/ http://www.ancientgreece.co.uk/ http://www.ancient-greece.org/

http://www.democracynow.org - In their new book, "The Body Economic: Why Austerity Kills," economist David Stuckler and physician Sanjay Basu examine the health impacts of austerity across the globe. The authors estimate there have been more than 10,000 additional suicides and up to a million extra cases of depression across Europe and the United States since governments started introducing austerity programs in the aftermath of the economic crisis. For example in Greece, where spending on public health has been slashed by 40 percent, HIV rates have jumped 200 percent and the country has seen its first malaria outbreak since the 1970s. An economist and public health specialist, Stuckler is a senior research leader at Oxford University. Dr. Basu is a physician and epidemiologist who teaches at Stanford University. "Had austerity been organized like a clinical trial, it would've been discontinued given evidence of its deadly side effects," Stuckler says. "There is an alternative choice that we found in the historical data and through the present recessions: When we place people and their health at the center of economic recovery, it can help get our economy back on track faster and yield lasting dividends to our society." Greece's economy continues to flounder and the fallout is negatively impacting its citizens' health. Greece's economy continues to flounder, and the country's unemployment rate is now at 27 percent. Those circumstances have been reported to be negatively impacting citizens' health. Among the most extreme hazards has come in the way of people infecting themselves with HIV to secure a government assistance payout of 950 dollars. Testing positive for the virus also gives them preferred access to drug substitution programs. This adds to Greece's already stratospheric rise in HIV cases over the past several years. No doubt, the problem isn't being helped by the fact that the number of people working as prostitutes in the country has reportedly increased by 150 percent since the economy collapsed. Healthcare is one of the public services hard hit by the nation's financial problems. Over 25 thousand of the industry's employees have lost their jobs and hospitals that remain open are trying to operate on budgets that have been cut in half. Addressing the needs of patients has become exceedingly difficult. As access to medical help has been declining, suicide rates have been escalating. Between 2007 and 2009 instances of people taking their own lives shot up 17 percent. In the first half of 2011, that number rose by 40 percent.

The authors estimate there have been more than 10,000 additional suicides and up to a million extra cases of depression across Europe and the United States since governments started introducing austerity programs in the aftermath of the economic crisis. Greece Tourism & Vacations 2015, Greece Trip 2015, Greece Travel Guide 2015 Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Greece is a country in Southern Europe, on the southernmost tip of the Balkan peninsula, with extensive coastlines and islands in the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. It shares borders in the north with Albania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Bulgaria, and Turkey. It has an ancient culture that has had a significant influence on the arts, language, philosophy, politics, and sports of western society, including the genres of comedy and drama, western alphabets, Platonic ideals and the Socratic method, democracies and republics, and the Olympics. Furthermore it's a geographically appealing place to visit, with a mountainous mainland and idyllic island beaches. Cities in Greece ============= Athens — the capital city known for the Parthenon Chania — second largest city on Crete surrounded with beaches and the Samaria National Park Chersonissos — party capital of Crete in the summer Heraklion — Crete's largest city and main hub with the archaeological site of Knossos Patra — 3rd most populated city, known for its wines and carnival Larissa — the country's fourth largest city Rhodes — magnificent city with impressive medieval structures, nightlife and beaches Thessaloniki — the country's prime city in the Macedonia region Volos — coastal port city with nice museums and architecture Kavala - coastal port city with scenic old town See in Greece ============== Few countries can pride themselves on a heritage as important to Western civilization as Greece. A range of first class historic landmarks remind one of the days when the great Greek emperors and writers made their mark on the development of science, literature and democracy. No less than 17 of those monuments are listed as World Heritage Sites. However, the many charming little islands, sandy beaches and picturesque whitewashed coastal towns are at least as much a reason to come for the millions of tourists that this Mediterranean country receives each year. Islands in Greece ================== When it comes to Greece's famously gorgeous islands, it's hard to take your pick out of the 6000 options you have, 227 of them being inhabited. Their rocky coast lines, sandy beaches, charming villages, sheltered bays and many yacht harbours make them extremely popular among all kinds of travellers. The large island of Crete is a highly popular tourist destination, with landscapes varying from great sandy palm beaches to snow-covered high peaks and stunning river gorges and a good deal of night life in its main tourist towns. If you're looking to party at night, lovely Mykonos or Ios are good options too. The volcanic island of Santorini is one of the most romantic picks and offers some spectacular views. Its whitewashed capital of Fira is dramatically situated on the edge of a 400m high cliff, overlooking a beautiful blue lagoon. Other popular ones are Lesbos, Paros, Lefkada and Kos. The National Marine Park on Zakynthos is the primary nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles in the Mediterranean. The rugged, green hills and valleys of Kefalonia boast a number of vineyards, and the island's cliffs and beautiful beaches make it a tourist hotspot. For a slightly more authentic and less touristy experience, try Syros, Amorgos or any of the other small and less developed islands.

Travel video about destination Greece. Although Greece is the home of ancient gods, birthplace of European civilisation and a country of great warriors and philosophers it is also a country of many islands with tiny villages and white houses, a deep blue sea and almost constant sunshine.Athens is a lively city set in historic surroundings. Unique among all other Greek temples is the Acropolis whose imposing appearance and artistic decoration signified the great influence and power of ancient Athens. Six female figures, the Karyatides, support the southern hall of the Ionic Temple of Erechtheion that stands on sacred ground close to the main temple. The imposing Mitrópolis is the main Greek Orthodox cathedral in Athens. A total of four architects designed this cathedral whose walls comprise the remains of no less than seventy former sacred buildings. The Cyclades Islands are situated in the middle of the Southern Aegean that like a magic circle flows around its former centre, the sacred island of Delos, Mykonos. For centuries this picturesque former pirate village in the middle of Cyclades group of islands has been the meeting place for artists, V.I.P.’s and the international glitterati. The Cyclades are also known as The Pearls Of Greece and it seems as though the gods have scattered a handful of beautiful pearls into the deep blue Aegean Sea. In ancient times they were also known as The Islands Of Light because Apollo, the God of Light and Learning, was born here and also worshipped on the islands. Santorini is the most southerly of the Cyclades Islands and the legendary location of the mythical lost island of Atlantis and also a breathtaking island paradise of rock, lava, sea and light.Crete is the ‘Island Of Light’ and the birthplace of Zeus. Heraklion is the capital of the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands on which a highly developed culture has existed for four thousand years. It’s no wonder that in these magnificent islands in the Aegean numerous gods, knights and tourists have always found much good fortune and enchantment!

A walking travel tour of Athens and Piraeus in Greece. Filmed in 2010. This was my very first walking tour video. I apologize for the shaky footage. Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece. Athens dominates the Attica region and is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning around 3,400 years. Classical Athens, as a landlocked location was a powerful city-state that emerged in conjunction with the seagoing development of the port of Piraeus. A centre for the arts, learning and philosophy, it is widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Today a cosmopolitan metropolis, modern Athens is central to economic, financial, industrial, political and cultural life in Greece. My visit there was great and I will always have fond memories of my time in this amazing city! Travel to Athens today and enjoy its wonders for yourself! Greece. Travel / Tourism. Greece officially the Hellenic Republic (Ελληνική Δημοκρατία and known since ancient times as Hellas, is a country in Southern Europe and Balkans. According to the 2011 census, Greece's population is around 11 million. Athens is the nation's capital and largest city. Greece is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. It shares land borders with Albania to the northwest, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north and Turkey to the northeast. The country consists of nine geographic regions: Macedonia, Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Thessaly, Epirus, the Aegean Islands (including the Dodecanese and Cyclades), Thrace, Crete, and the Ionian Islands. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. Greece has the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Basin and the 11th longest coastline in the world at 13,676 km (8,498 mi) in length, featuring a vast number of islands (approximately 1,400, of which 227 are inhabited). Eighty percent of Greece consists of mountains, of which Mount Olympus is the highest, at 2,917 m (9,570 ft). Modern Greece traces its roots to the civilization of Ancient Greece, which began with the Aegean Civilizations of the Bronze Age. Considered the cradle of all Western civilization, Greece is the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, Western literature and historiography, political science, major scientific and mathematical principles and Western drama including both tragedy and comedy. The cultural and technological achievements of Greece greatly influenced the world, with many aspects of Greek civilization being imparted to the East through Alexander the Great's campaigns, and to the West through its incorporation into the Roman Empire. This rich legacy is partly reflected by the 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites located in Greece, ranking it 6th in Europe and 13th in the world. The modern Greek state, which comprises most of the historical core of Greek civilization, was established in 1830 following the war of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Greece is a democratic and developed country with an advanced high-income economy, a high quality of life and a very high standard of living. A founding member of the United Nations, Greece was the 10th member to join the European Communities (precursor to the European Union) and has been part of the Eurozone since 2001. The nation is also a member of numerous other international institutions including the Council of Europe, NATO[a], OECD, OSCE and the WTO. Greece, which is one of Europe's largest shipping powers, has the largest economy in the Balkan Peninsula where Greece is an important regional investor; its economy is also the ninth largest in the Eurozone and the 43rd in the world. An important percentage of Greece's national income comes from tourism. All images are either in the Public Domain or on Google images labeled for reuse. On Saturday Greece and Croatia booked their tickets in the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament. Croatia's semi-final win secured their spot with a tight 76-70 win over favorites Germany. Led by Marko Tomas who scored 21 points, the 20th-ranked Croatians showed solid improvement in their game, playing from the lead much of the way. The German team made a run to close the gap, but a three-pointer with just over three and a half minutes left pushed Croatia's lead to a 10-point cushion. In the other semi-final, host-team Greece beat Puerto Rico 88-63. The solid performance before a fiery home. For more news and videos visit ☛ http://ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http://twitter.com/NTDTelevision Add us on Facebook ☛ http://on.fb.me/s5KV2C The International Basketball Federation finalized the Olympic brackets on Sunday after Germany secured the final qualifying spot with a win over Puerto Rico. It marks the first time since 1992 that Germany will play in the Olympic Games. Germany and Greece, will play in Group B which already includes Angola, China, world champions Spain and the U.S. While Croatia, the third qualifier, was drawn in Group A alongside 2004 Olympic champions Argentina, Australia, Iran, Lithuania and European champions Russia. Meanwhile, Yao Ming gave China's Olympic basketball hopes a boost when he returned to action last week. But Yao, recovering from a foot injury, spent most of the warm-up match on the sidelines. [Yao Ming, Chinese Basketball Player]: "The match was really not that intense. The Serbian and Russian eams are both youth teams. Only the Angolan team will be playing in the Olympics. The next match against Angola will be more of a real test. As far as how my body feels, there's no way to tell if the challenge isn't that great." As China's best-known sportsman, Yao faces considerable pressure to excel despite the team's modest medal hopes.

http://bestflights.co.za/europe/greece/santorini Colorful! Spectacular! Beautiful! Romantic! This is some of the words that best describes the island of Santorini. The islands is a result of a massive volcanic eruption that happened 3600 years ago. Even though Santorini has a violent origin it has the most majestic landscape, spectacular sunsets and great wines that lure tourists all over the world. Santorini is one of the great natural wonders of the world, and its main attraction is the landscape and seascape of the island itself. Santorini's primary industry is tourism, particularly in the summer months. Santorini is well-known for its low-lying cubical houses, made of local stone and whitewashed or lime-washed with various volcanic ashes used as colours. The island is popular for its legendary sunsets, which is some of the most spectacular in the world. Santorini ranks among top destinations for wedding celebrations for at least 4 years - primarily for sunset and peace. The landscape such as the blue sky, the little white houses perched on gigantic rocks on hills that plummet to the sea, the lemon and orange groves, the pink and white churches that look like pastry cakes and the faces and warmth and expressiveness of the Greek people makes the island a popular tourist destination. The best time to visit Santorini is from June to September since it is when almost all events and festivals occur. During these months, the weather is great for a swim and staying on the beach. Spoil yourself with a vacation to Santorini and enjoy the beautiful, colourful and spectacular atmosphere with a splash of romance. Check also - http://www.facebook.com/SimioniucAdrianIulianModel Meteora is wonderful place( unique and unbelievable) where you can find 6 monasteries , 4 inhibited by men and 2 inhibited by women. The closest city is Kalambaka at just 5 km where you can find some hotels but the prices are pretty high , I suggest you to get accomodation in Larissa(100km away) or in Thessaloniki(250km away) , Meteora is a 1 day destination because if you follow to main road you can visit all monasteries in just few hours. You can visit here also a cave. The Meteora means , 'middle of the sky','suspended in air'or 'in the heavens above' etymologically related with "Meteorite" is one of the largest and most important complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The six monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars,on the plane of Thessaly near the Pindus mountains in central Greece You have 2 ways to get at Meteora , first is From Thessaloniki but you have to drive 250km and the second is from larissa and you have to drive just 100km or you can take a bus from a travel agency. About accommodation tell u that it is pretty bad and expensive , people usually come here to stay 1 night or maxim 2 because following the main road you can visit all monasteries in just 1 day Meteora is a place where you can find 6 monasteries 4 inhibited by man and 2 inhinited by women. As you can see to get here is not easy so take care. And finnaly when you get to the monastery you have to pay a tax to visit it In the 14th during the Ottoman invasion the monks decided to build new monasteries right on the pick, the only safe place in the period of time Here were 24 active monestries Kalambaka is the closest city situated at just 5km People started to live here thousands of years ago but in 9 century a group of monks move up to this nice place. Meteora is a place where natural and man made wonders are linked makeing this place unique. The Holy Monastery of Grand Meteoron is the largest of the monasteries located at Meteora. It was elected in the mid-14th century and the building serves as the main museum for tourists The holy monastery of Varlaam is the second largest monastery in the Meteora complex. It was built in 1541 and it is dedicated to all Saints. The holy monastery of St.Stehen is a small church built in the 16th century. This monastery rests on the plain rather than on a cliff. it was damaged by the Nazis during WW2 who believed it was harbouring insurgents and was abandoned.Nuns took it over and Reconstructed it. The monastery of the Holy Trinity is on top of the cliffs and it was built in 1475. The holy Monastery of St.Barbara was founded in the middle of 16th century. http://youtu.be/5oGkqUul4xE

World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Greece Travel Guide http://bit.ly/19QqISc Shepherd Entertainment gives you the history of Corfu and takes you on a tour of the city's sites and attractions. Its visitors can enjoy the Halikiopoulos Lagoon, St. Mark fortress and the famous Vlacherna Monastery, which is the symbol of the Island. A castle of stones and earthworks stood in the place of the old fortress around the 5th century. It was fortified by the Byzantines who established their capital here as a protection from the attacks of the Vandals, the Goths and the Slavs. In the court, the Doric style pillared garrison church was built. The residential buildings were connected by an underground labyrinth. The walls on the seaside were made higher. In the 18th century, the buildings were surrounded by a wide water jump which is used as a port nowadays. A drawbridge spans the channel. From the esplanade, we can reach the castle using this bridge. The dungeons, the knights' rooms and the towers of the building surmounting the cliff are reminiscent of the fortress that was once impregnable even by the Turkish. The museum and the lapidary tell tales of old ages. Of course, we can't only see Byzantine mosaics but also frescoes and reliefs as reminiscences of the 400 years of Venetian rule. The lighthouse still helps the orientation of ships and the castle chapel is also in operation. The far side of the 5km promenade is occupied by the Kanoni Peninsula. The area between the two ports was the city of the ancient Kerkyra, the excavation of which has not yet been finished completely. The summer residency of the English governors was built on the nice little peninsula covered by rich vegetation. This is where Austrian Queen Elizabeth stayed when she was looking for a place to build her castle and this is where Philip, Duke of Edinburg was born who became the husband of Queen Elizabeth of England. The Halikiopoulos Lagoon can be found between the capital and Perama. The runway of the airport of Corfu was built on its bank. Here can be found the symbol of the island, the Vlacherna Monastery standing on a peninsula with the Pontikonissi or Mouse Island behind. Its white stairs among evergreens lead up to a small nunnery. Vlacherna and its surroundings is the most visited and photographed site on Corfu. The white washed belfry church can be accessed by a foot bridge. Thousands of visitors come to this place on a pilgrimage which is gripping in its simplicity. From the café with terrace on the top of the steep green hill, there's a magnificent view of the monastery and the every changing colors of the sea. The new fortress was built by the Venetians who gave it the obvious name St. Mark. The lion with wings can still be seen over the gate. Today, the base of the Greek navy can be found here. However, in the port, there are hardly any naval vessels. There are more ferries bringing tourists and cars from Bari Italy. By hydrofoil, the travel time can be reduced by 2/3. But travelling this way on a rolling sea is more like an extreme sport. The Byzantine museum can be found in the scenic Capielo district. It was established in the Panagia AntivouniotissaChurch built in the 15th century. Here, paintings and icons by famous artists such as -- Lombardos or Damascinos are exhibited. From the terrace of the marjia, we can view the Venetian port which is called Mandraki like in Cos and Rhodos. Instead of Venetian galleons, today, tourist ships gather here. On Thursday, Germany rejected Greece’s proposal for a six-month extension to its Eurozone loan agreement. Germany said that the proposal was “not a substantial solution” because it didn’t obligate Athens to stick to the conditions of its international bailout. As the biggest creditor and EU paymaster, Germany has the clout to block a deal which would leave Greece without a financial lifeline and potentially put it towards an exit from the Eurozone. Erin weighs in. Then, Edward sits down with Dr. Pippa Malmgren – founder of DRPM Group and author of “Signals: The Breakdown of the Social Contract and the rise of Geopolitics." Dr. Malmgren gives us her take on the possibility of a Greek default and its potential effects. Pippa believes that the voting public in Greece and elsewhere in the periphery has become radicalized after years of economic hardship. She sees this as one big reason that Greece could eventually exit the Eurozone. Pippa also gives cogent analyses of shrinkflation, the downsizing of portion sizes in retail packaging to increase margins, as well as the UK trade data and what they mean for the upcoming UK elections. After the break, Erin is joined by Steve Keen – head of the School of Economics, History, and Politics at Kingston University and author behind “Steve Keen’s Debtwatch.” Steve tells us that new Greece finance minister Yanis Varoufakis is not as radical as some make him out to be and gives us his take on the rest of the periphery. He believes that the situation in Greece is a textbook case of debt deflation and proves how destructive pro-cyclical cuts to government spending are for an economy. Dr. Keen goes further and suggests that the rest of the periphery is still not out of the woods. He believes even France is at risk economically. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison continue the discussion on Greece and the turmoil surrounding the German Finance Minister’s rejection of Greece’s proposal to extend its loan agreements. There is no question that the US economy is improving. However, as the economy improves it’s become clear that Americans are borrowing to pay for purchases. According to a survey released on Monday by Bankrate.com, 37% of American’s have credit card debt that is equal or greater than their emergency savings. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by James Galbraith – professor of government at the University of Texas in Austin and author of “The End of Normal.” James tells us about his recent trip to Greece alongside former colleague and current finance minister Yanis Varoufakis. Galbraith gives us an inside view into the apparent dysfunctionality that reigns at the highest levels of European institutions. He also says that the mood in Athens had changed demonstrably due to Syriza’s election. But many hurdles remain as the recent agreement details are hashed out. After the break, Erin sits down with George Magnus – former chief economist at UBS and author of “Uprising: Will Emerging Markets Shape or Shake the World Economy?" George tells us that trust between the Greek government and the EU has broken down. In fact he believes that the trust issue goes beyond Greece to the whole southern periphery of the Eurozone. While the Greek government’s interim loan extension has bought it time, Magnus believes Greece will not be able to repay its debts under the current policy framework. That sets up a problem for negotiations for what would effectively be a 3rd bailout down the line. George also weighs in on why he is cautious on European asset markets despite some modest improvement in the economic outlook. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison discuss Greece and Europe. The shocking level of dysfunction in European institutions and the inability for Greece to repay its debts make June a date when the proverbial stuff will hit the fan. Take a look! The Western world is built on the wisdom and traditions of the ancient Greeks, who uncovered the fundamental principles that established the basics of modern technology. Explore their contributions to geometry, astronomy, and physics and take a close-up look at how they applied their knowledge: Thales predicted an eclipse, Pythagoras discovered mathematical correlation between a musical instrument's string length and its tone, Archimedes developed laws of mechanics, and a group of 90 priests made well-informed educated guesses about many things. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is calling on Europe to back down on austerity. That attitude has been met with sympathy from France, Italy and the United States. Germany’s insistence on sticking with tough austerity measures is leaving it increasingly isolated. What effect will the power struggle between Tsipras, the EU and Berlin have on wider power relations in Europe? Could this result in a showdown after all? Is the prospect of a Greek exit from the Eurozone still on the cards? What do you think? On Sunday, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis told Italian state television that if Greece is forced out of the Eurozone, other countries will inevitably follow and the currency bloc will collapse. Greece’s new government is trying to renegotiate its debt repayments and has begun to roll back austerity policies with its international creditors. Varoufakis said Greece’s debt problems need to be solved in conjunction with anti-austerity policies – not just for Greece, but for the Eurozone as a whole. Erin weighs in. Then, Erin is joined by Steve Keen – Head of the School of Economics, History, and Politics at Kingston University. Steve tells us if he’s optimistic about the Troika and Greece overcoming their differences and reaching a deal that is acceptable to both creditors and the new Greek government and gives us his take on Greek austerity. Steve’s view is that government must offset the deleveraging of the private sector to prevent pro-cyclicality that undermines longer-term growth. Keen also wants debt writedowns in an optimal scenario, particularly in Europe’s private sector. But, short of this, he believes that option-embedded debt based on GDP growth in Greece is a step forward for the Greek sovereign debt situation. After the break, Erin sits down with Richard Werner – director of international development and founding director of the Centre for Banking, Finance and Sustainable Development at the University of Southampton. Richard talks to us about the Federal Reserve’s quantitative easing and gives us his take on wage growth and household debt levels. The credit easing that Ben Bernanke did in the first round of quantitative easing, qualitatively was closer to what Werner proposed when he first created the idea of quantitative easing in the early 1990s. But the other forms of QE will not increase credit growth because bank balance sheets are still encumbered. Richard believes a target for nominal growth would be an improvement over present central bank policy. And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison discuss India. Specifically, India is now poised to grow 7.4% according to government projections. This puts India ahead of China, cementing India’s position in markets as the darling of the emerging market big hitters. Take a look! This documentary tells the truth about the creation of the Greek state in the 19th century. Still many perspectives have to be analyzed far better than till now, but we get a general idea what has happened with the history of Greece. Falsehood and deletions of facts, about the Albanian population of Greece, about the role of Orthodox Church during the revolution etc., is shown in this documentary made by Greek TV SKAI.

With everyone who participates the audience and distribution network will grow. Are you participating? http://intothefire.org A hard hitting documentary which shows the plight of refugees and migrants in recession hit Athens, Into The Fire is a film with a difference. Shot and edited with sensitivity and compassion, it doesn't pull its punches and makes for harrowing viewing in parts. It is the product of crowd funding, dedication, self-sacrifice and a burning sense of justice. On 21 April, Into the Fire is simultaneously released on websites, blogs and other platforms around the internet. The film will be available in various languages, including Albanian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian and Spanish. There are a number of public screenings planned in several countries in Europe and Northern America. To participate in the release or organise a screening see http://intothefire.org/publish This strategy is being used to maximise the audience, in the hope that the audience will become active participants, commentators and amplifiers when it comes to opposing the conditions visited on the victims in the story. The premiere of Into the Fire on 29th April, 6:30pm will be hosted by the School of Oriental and African Studies. The filmmakers will be joined for discussion by Habib Rahman of the Join Council for the Welfare of Immigrants. In times of severe austerity things look bleak for Greek people, but they're far worse for those who have recently arrived. Without housing, legal papers or support, migrants in Greece are faced with increasing and often violent racism at the hands of the growing Nazi party Golden Dawn and the police in Athens. Many are trapped by EU laws and legislation of other EU countries meaning they'd be returned to Greece if they managed to get to another member state, they are desperate to leave the country. This film gives incredible insights to the reality faced by people who simply want to lead peaceful, normal lives. Having been to Athens to shoot footage about austerity in April last year, Reel News video activists started talking and working with a young Somalian refugee, they made many contacts in the migrant world and those contacts gave them access to a huge number of untold and shocking stories. Funded by small donations from friends and organisations, the film makers are once more turning to their supporters and allies in the UK to distribute the film online and through screenings to grassroots groups across the country. No one has been paid to work on this film.
Athens claims success in comprise reached with creditors that would end austerity, but required reforms could be costly.
In this episode of the Keiser Report, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss the impossible demand from the Greek voters that both austerity ends and that they remain in the euro as currently arranged. They also look at a parallel ‘future-tax’ crypto currency as a possible answer to Greece’s problems. In the second half, Max interviews Liam Halligan, editor-at-large at BNE.eu and columnist at the Telegraph, about the latest on the unpayable debt crisis in Greece. Liam suggests a Grexit will happen but that Greece won’t be the first European nation to leave the euro. Clashes broke out between riot police and protesters in Corinth Saturday after the latter organised a demonstration against one of the country's biggest detention centres. Wielding red and black 'anarchist' flags, a group of the protesters managed to break into the camp's main entrance.
