You never know what someone's been through.
Alix: I found out how hard it is to change, really change. Even hell can get comfortable if you're used to it. All I wanted my whole life, was for that lonliness inside me to go away. But, it never did, no matted what I drank, or what drug I took, or where I went, who I was with. We all need something to help us get through life. All I needed was to find the right thing to rely on, something that would never go away, something I would never run out of. Turned out to be the same thing for everybody. And the funny thing was, it was there all the time, in those little glimpses of heaven in every day... In the smile of a stranger, the green of the trees, the advice of a friend, the laughter of a child, the help of a neighbor, the plane that arrived safely.

Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba. Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars. But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you a sense of stepping back in time. Here in Havana you should enjoy a tour of the cities main sites, an evening at the Bueno Vista Social Club, and trip to one of her many museums. You'll need at least a couple of days, its a very fun place. In two weeks time Trinidad will celebrate its 500 anniversary. Founded only a few years after Christopher Columbus discovered the America's, the town shot to prominence in the 19th century as one of the world's largest exporters of sugar. With its fine plazas, palaces and churches, and its famous cobbled streets lined by colourful houses, it developed into masterpiece of colonial Caribbean architecture. So well preserved is the town that in 1988 it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status and today forms an important part of most cultural trips to the country. From Trinidad you might continue east to visit the revolutionary centre of Santiago de Cuba, or head west to enjoy the amazing landscapes around Vinales. Or you might like to do something completely different. Of course there are plenty of other things to enjoy in Cuba besides the cultural highlights Trinidad and Havana offer. Cuba is blessed with beautiful countryside through which to can go hiking, cycling and horse back riding. Right now I am at a government ranch called La Guabina, in Pinar del Rio province. Each year Wild Frontiers takes the place over to run a horse riding tour of the area and horse riding is primarily what I have come here to do. But if riding is not your thing, from here you can also go on wonderful walks, go fishing or boating on one of the regions many lakes, indulge in some bird watching, or just relax away from the more chaotic life urban Cuba has to offer. And finally of course there are beaches. As an island over a 1000 kilometres in length, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other, there are hundreds of wonderful beaches just waiting to be enjoyed. And in our experience, Cayo Levisa, where I am now, is one of the best. Relatively close to Havana, and relatively small in size, Cayo Levisa offers all the usual activities you'd associate with a modern beach resort, like sailing, fishing snorkeling and diving, but is small enough to not have you feeling drowned by mass tourism. As with a number of other similar locations, Cayo Levisa offers a great way to round off your trip to Cuba. Of course a cultural adventure to Cuba will not be for everyone. With luxury accommodation pretty much non-existent, transport pretty basic, the cuisine though in places surprisingly good, in others rather plain, and a service level that is at best eclectic, those looking for a high end experience will almost certainly be disappointed here. But if you're the kind of traveller that is interested in seeing a country that hasn't really changed in the last 50 years, a place that has not been overwhelmed by all the trappings of modern consumerism, and are happy to go with the flow in one of the world's last remaining communist countries, then here in Cuba you will find one of the most friendly, authentic, historically interesting and culturally rich places in the whole of Latin America. My advice is to come soon before it all changes.
There are few more fascinating destinations in the Caribbean than its largest and most populous island, Cuba -- not least because it has been a socialist rep...

Havana, Cuba Tourism, Havana, Cuba Vacation, Havana, Cuba Tours, Visit Havana, Cuba Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Havana City is the capital city of Cuba, and one of the fourteen provinces of the Republic of Cuba. Weather in Havana, Cuba ======================= Cuba has a tropical climate, with warm, humid weather all year long, though cold temperatures have occured in the mountains before. Being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba has warm water year round, with winter water temperatures at 75F, spring and fall temperatures at 78F and summer temperatures at 82F. See in Havana, Cuba ================= Museum of the Revolution and the Capitol Building. Visit a live cigar factory. One offering tours is at the intersection of Peñalver and San Carlos (just 1 mile southwest of Old Havana La Habana Vieja), tickets can/should be bought in advance (10 CUC per person as of July 2014). English tours are available. Please note that there is no photography allowed. It is the place where you can also be sure to get the correct cigars in the shop - more expensive than 'street offers' - but the quality of these "street offers" is definitely questionable, . Note that the Partagas cigar factory just behind the Capitol Building has closed permanently since late 2011. Havana Club Rum Factory. Go on a guided tour of Havana Club, one of Cuba's most famous rums. Most of the exhibits are subtitled in English and are fairly self-explanatory. Walk along the Prado street in the evening. Great public space - unfortunately not illuminated at night. The Prado hums with street life, cafes and charm. Walk along El Malecón. A favorite stroll for tourists and locals, a walk along the Malecon runs along the main streets of Havana and provides stunning views of the Bay. Enjoy the glory of La Habana Vieja (The Old Town), some of it faded and crumbling - but there are many beautifully restored buildings as a result of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation. Plaza de la Revolución. Huge square dominated by a statue and monument of Jose Marti and the iconic image of Che Guevara adorning the Ministry of the Interior. Arrive either early or late, as it is often swamped by tourists and gets very hot during the day. John Lennon Park in Vedado. Features the only statue of a western musician in Havana. Notable for the regularly stolen (and replaced) eyeglasses. The US Special Interests building in Vedado, just off the Malecon. In the absence of a United States embassy in Cuba, this heavily fortified and guarded building is where Cuban citizens go to apply for US Visas. It was notable for displaying news which is unfiltered and not censored by the Cuban government on electronic billboards situated behind the windows of one of the floors, but these were switched off in 2009. It is also the focus for regularly staged protests. Hotel Habana Libre in Vedado. The hotel housed Castro's soldiers for several days after they took Havana. It has an excellent selection of photos in the lobby along with one of the only 24 hour fast food restaurants in the city. Enjoy extraordinary 360-degree views of the city using the large Camara Oscura in the old town. The Catedral de San Cristobal in old Havana. Said to be the only example of a baroque construction that possesses asymmetrical features, one of the towers is wider than the other. Plaza de Armas. Spacious and elegant, the square is surrounded by baroque constructions that give it a authentic colonial milieu. Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Plaza des Armas. Castillo de La Real Fuerza is the oldest bastioned fortress in the New World and has now reopened as a Cuba’s premier maritime museum. Do in Havana, Cuba =============== Walk along the Malecón, the sea wall that runs along the Havana coastline. On weekends this is where the locals come to party, so bring a bottle and join in. Latin American New Cinema Festival, [6] is a popular event held every December, screening international films and drawing around 500,000 people. Tropicana Show — A cabaret show that costs 90CUC. Take a tour in an old car — For around 20-30CUC an hour for up to four people, be driven around Havana in style. Choose a car you like near the Hotel Inglaterra or outside the Museum of the Revolution. Go to the eastern beaches (Playas del Este) — There's a bus leaving from Hotel Inglaterra every 30 minutes. Price is 5 CUC for a roundtrip. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Walk around Havana Vieja in the early mornings, or take a very long walking tour with "Havana Frans", a Dutch jazz photographer who lives in Havana.

All together two million Spanish, Indian, African, Chinese, Mulato and other peoples live here together in peace. The Metrobus, a long bus pulled by a semitrailer holds 200 people at a time transporting them throughout the city which spans 45km. It's the biggest settlement in Central America. Fortunately, the tourist sites are limited to a smaller territory than this in the Vieja Habana, Centro Habana and Vedado City regions. Sought by everyone, relics of the colonial past can be found in the old town Vieja. Outside the former city wall, in the middle of a monumental park, the building of the Capitollo can be found. This huge palace with a white dome is the symbol of the American influence. It was built in 1929, taking the capital in Washington as a model. Due to its designer's healthy Cuban self confidence, it was built to be one meter higher than the original. It served as the parliament of the Cuban republic for three decades. In one of its wings, the House of Representatives and the other wing, the senate was in session. After the victory of the revolution, a new function was given it and today, it is the seat of the Cuban Scientific Academy. Because there's a lot of room left in it, the Museum of Natural Science and the Planetarium were also set up here. The 208 meter wide façade looks under Martilla Esplanade which is always busy and broadens to become a square. Next to the capital, an impressively beautiful building can be seen. This neoclassical palace ornamented with statues columns and small towers is the national theater which was named after the antifascist poet Federico Garcia Lorca. As a result of his beliefs, General Franco had him executed. Exploring the real beauties of the city can be done best on foot but sightseeing can also be continued by hailing a cab. In the street opening opposite, we can find El Floradita which is a bar and a restaurant in one and is one of the most popular in Havana. In the corner of the bar, Hemingway leans against the counter as he used to do when yearning for a swig of daiquiri. This cocktail was first given to workers as a refreshment in the mine the bar was named after. It is made in many ways but its base is Cuban white rum, lemon juice and lots of ice. Sugar syrup, triple sec or maraschino can also be added but it can be made with banana or orange as well and it's best to drink it right here on the spot. The determining elements of the panorama of Havana are the American old timers. In the 1950s, Americans not only bough real estate here, but they also brought their cars which were the most modern at that time. After the revolution, Fidel nationalized the cars too. They belong to the national heritage. They're not for sale even if the collector had paid huge amounts for a chrome osmobile or a pink Cadillac, a wing Chevrolet or a Studebaker. In Cuba, there are no places where they dissemble old cars. The wrecks can still be driven. As spare parts are not available for these models at all, it's a challenge to maintain them. Perhaps there's little money but there's always an idea. World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Cuba Travel Guide http://bit.ly/17jZOBD Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of Santa Clara in Cuba, which surrounded by hills came into existence in 1689 and soon became the center of the region due to its location. Santa Clara, the seat of the Villa Clara region owes its existence to the fact that the coastal city of San Juan delos Remedios suffered a lot from pirates. The pirates attack caused a majority of the population to look for a safer place further inland. Santa Clara surrounded by hills came into existence in 1689 and soon became the center of the region due to its location. The main square Park Vidal was named after the colonel who died during the second war of independence here. The square looks like any other square in Cuba. It has beautiful parks and is decorated by peacock flowers, boxwood and royal palms with a classical bandstand in the middle. The houses flanking the square were built in the 1920s and are mainly buildings with pillars and arcades. One of them is the best café in the city, the neoclassical building of Palacio Provincial is decorated by ionic columns and big tympanum. The building houses offices and a library and we could find a cinema, bank and several hotels on the square. The biggest building is the renovated Teatro la Carida. It's tympanum on the façade has a slashed shape rather than a common triangular one. If it hadn't been for Che Guevara, today's Santa Clara might only have its main square to be proud of. In this way, however, we can't miss the square of revolution and the mausoleum which houses the remains of Che Guevara and 16 of his fellow combatants killed in 1967 during the Bolivia Campaign. In the huge Plaza dela Revolucion, the monumental statue of the hot tempered but ardent commander can be seen from far away. The relief of the pedestal depicts the episodes of Che's life. Across the square, a museum commemorates his life of 39 years. In 1998, Pope John Paul II held mass here with a crowd of worshipers. Live fast, dangerously and die early. This may be the watchword of every true revolutionary but Ernesto che Guevara lived it. He was born in 1928 in Argentina and was executed in 1967 in Bolivia. Cuba's Communist government has always maintained tight control over information. All media on the island are state-controlled and access to the internet is restricted. Only a privileged few are allowed online at home and there is little public wifi and no web access on telephones. But there are signs that could be changing with the opening of new, public access internet centres, mobile email, and promises of more to come soon. Many Cubans are impatient for that moment. Life Inside Cuba 1 of 7 . BBC World News Documentary, recorded 18.02.2009 I'm nostagic about Cuba... As such I've collected News & Media Clips over the years...
(Raw Story) Fox News digital politics editor Chris Stirewalt reacted to the news that President Barack Obama had authorized a prisoner swap with Cuba by comparing the commander-in-chief to child reality star Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. Alan Gross, a contractor who was imprisoned by the Cuban government without charges since 2009, was released on Wednesday. At the same time, the U.S. agreed to release three Cubans. The moves were thought to be part of confidence-building measures to mark the start of normalizing diplomatic relations. “While surely across Washington, there is a great deal of support for a family that will be reunited, and a man who has been wrongly imprisoned, etc., etc.,” Stirewalt told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Wednesday. “This case looks like that might be the political cover or the means — the sugar to help the medicine go down — for the White House to make the focus on one wrongly imprisoned man while they embark on an enormous change in U.S. policy.” According to Stirewalt, the embargo on Cuba had been maintained because it was “deemed necessary for U.S. credibility.” “I think part of it is sort of entering this sort of Honey Boo Boo phase of the Obama presidency in which he does what he wants,” he added. “And he’s not going to be constrained by elections, he’s not going to be constrained by voters.” MacCallum said that she could not fathom why the president would choose to focus on Cuba now. “You look at the Taliban massacre of children that occurred in Peshawar yesterday morning, you look at what’s going on with Iran, you look at that discussion — we have serious, serious foreign policy issues on the table,” MacCallum opined. “And I think other than the release of Alan Gross — which as you point out, everyone is happy about — you know, the question once again for this presidency becomes ‘What? Why this now? Why?’” “And I think it is because he can,” Stirewalt replied. “And because this is a president looking for a legacy, this is a president who has a very short period of time before the 2016 stakes take over and Hillary Clinton assumes full control of the Democratic Party, which will happen shortly after the president’s State of the Union Address.”

Cuba releases American Alan Gross in prisoner swap By Elise Labott, CNN Global Affairs Correspondent Washington (CNN) -- U.S. contractor Alan Gross, held by the Cuban government since 2009, was freed Wednesday as part of a landmark deal with Cuba that paves the way for a major overhaul in U.S. policy toward the island, senior administration officials tell CNN. President Barack Obama is expected to announce Gross' release at noon in Washington. At around the same time, Cuban president Raul Castro will speak about it in Havana. Gross' "humanitarian" release by Cuba was accompanied by a separate spy swap, the officials said. Cuba also freed a U.S. intelligence source who has been jailed in Cuba for more than 20 years, although authorities did not identify that person for security reasons. The U.S. released three Cuban intelligence agents convicted of espionage in 2001. President Obama is also set to announce a broad range of diplomatic and regulatory measures in what officials called the most sweeping change in U.S. policy toward Cuba since the 1961 embargo was imposed. see more: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/12/17/politics/cuba-alan-gross-deal/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 cnn, cnn news, cnn news today, cnn news yesterday, cnn news this week, cnn news breaking news, cnn news breaking news today, cnn news breaking news now, cnn news now

Talks in Havana continued as the U.S. and Cuba work to restore diplomatic and economic ties.
Money Clips: A new law that bans Florida from doing business with companies that have ties to Cuba would hurt our economic recovery, says Sean Snaith. (2012)
Maverick entrepreneur Mark Cuban described his picture of an ideal world to attendees of the Inc. GrowCo conference in Nashville, Tenn. http://www.inc.com/amy-whyte/if-mark-cuban-ruled-the-world.html Mark Cuban made headlines this week with the unflinchingly honest remarks he made at Inc.'s 17th annual GrowCo conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The outspoken entrepreneur gave his opinion on everything from whether Donald Sterling should be banned from the NBA to how to fix the economy. On stage before a packed audience of entrepreneurs, Inc. President and Editor-in-Chief Eric Schurenberg asked Cuban the instantly intoxicating question: What would you change if you were in charge? Naturally, Cuban jumped on the question. (He's obviously been thinking about this!) From abolishing patents to reforming the NBA, here's how the world would look if Cuban was King: Eliminate software patents. "Patent law right now holds us back in every which way shape and form," said Cuban, who added that he was once sued over a film distribution technique his company developed after someone else decided to file a patent for the technique. "In software, there's no place for it." Change the culture of professional sports. When Cuban purchased the Dallas Mavericks in 2000, he immediately instituted a new rule: "If you mention our win or loss record, you're fired." Cuban made it clear that even though he owned a NBA team, he wasn't in the business of basketball--he was in the business of entertainment. "The one thing you can't control in sports is which games you're going to win and which games you're going to lose," he said. "What I could control was the experience fans have." Put a $10,000 cap on student loans. The current student debt crisis, Cuban argued, is hurting the economy more than anything else. It's taking away the spending power of college graduates and decreasing overall consumption. He blamed skyrocketing college tuition costs on the availability of student loans. "It's easy to get that loan because the government guarantees it," he said. "And because it's easy for you to take out a loan, it's easy for the colleges to ask for more, because then the potential students just take out bigger loans." The move might put some schools out of business, Cuban admitted, but the universities that survived would come back smarter and more efficient. "Until you fix the student loan bubble and the tuition bubble, we don't have a chance," he said. Encourage organizational resilience. When discussing the upcoming vote to ban Sterling from the NBA for making racist remarks, Cuban stopped short of indicating how he'd vote. But, overall, he described the ban as a "slippery slope" and admitted that he himself is bigoted in some ways. After he asserted that everyone is prejudiced in some way or another, he argued that it was impossible to keep "stupid" out of an organization, as there was no law against it. "People are going to be stupid and make mistakes," said Cuban. Ok, so this point isn't totally in keeping with the "how Cuban would change the world" rubric, but overhauling people's perceptions would surely be a top priority.

Voices of the Island: The Cuban Art Collection of Reynier Llanes http://www.reynierllanes.com/New-7-Exhibition.html Art Museum Exhibit Features Creative Genius of 13 Cuban Artists The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum presents Voices of the Island: The Cuban Art Collection of Reynier Llanes, opening Thursday, Jan. 15. When artist Reynier Llanes moved to Charleston, SC, in 2009, he brought his artistic inspiration with him: his home in Pinar del Rio, a mountainous, biologically and artistically rich region at the westernmost end of Cuba. Passionate about sharing his cultural heritage with his new country, he has done so not only through his own artwork, evoking themes and images from his upbringing, but also by collecting and selling the works of other artists from Pinar del Rio. Voices of the Island features 55 works by 18 artists (including Llanes), all of whom are from Cuba and most of whom are still living there. The works are all part of Llanes' personal collection. Though the artists' styles and subject matter vary greatly, most share several common themes — a strong link to the Cuban culture and landscape, an emphasis on family or unity, and reflection on contemporary Cuban society. There are landscapes, abstract pieces, portraits, still lifes and more. http://www.myrtlebeachartmuseum.org/
Cuba's culture is based on the arts, including painting, music and ballet. Though the Cuban government uses the art forms as propaganda, the arts have become a way of life for most Cubans, penetrating their mentalities and enhancing their daily lives. http://www.HavanaSpring.com The Story of Free Cuba Follow us here: Twitter: https://twitter.com/HavanaSpring Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HavanaSpring Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/havanaspring/ Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/10Hg377 ___________________________ Title: The Cuban culture Date: June 9, 2013 Duration: 03:57" Code: V_2013_1091 [00:00:11,798] The Cuban culture has been promoted toward the society. But also used as currency for governmental propaganda. Art schools, spreading the culture, the culture like a weapon of the revolution are slogans that have remained in the Cuban mentality. Do you know something about Cuban art? [00:00:31,634] Well, look, to tell you that there is nothing more important in life than art; and to say art is to say flowers, to say art is to say Martin, to say art is to say women, to say art is to say life, to say art is such a big thing that such a small word cannot limit it, what it should, what it should encompass about what the system of culture is, of the culture. Do you know something about Cuban art? [00:00:59,480] Nothing. I am modern. I know nothing. Why do you not know anything? Does is not interest you? Do you know something about Cuban art? Cuban art? Well, it is a very beautiful culture. The cultural term encompasses in addition to the manner of life, ceremonies, arts, inventions, technology, systems of values, fundamental rights of human beings, traditions and beliefs. [00:01:28,271] Tell me the name of three Cuban dance companies? The Ballet Litz Alfonso... The, what is it is called? Can you tell me the name of three dance companies of Cuba? The name of three dance companies? The ballet of the Festival of San Juan, of Alfonso, ballet X Alfonso, is it? And Calzada, I do not remember another. [00:02:07,312] Music is without any doubt whatsoever, what has had the most influence on the Cuban personality. It is said that on the Island, that one speaks singing that one dances while walking and falls in love with a lyric from a song. Who was the author of Guantanamera? The Guantanamera? Do you know who the author of the Guantanamera was? Joseito Fernandez. [00:02:30,380] Although the new generations, in great majority, do not know what good theater is or know who their representatives are in the different manifestations of the culture, what is true is that culture gives Man the ability to reflect upon himself. What is the Cuban theatre company that has the status as the ambassadors of peace? I do not know. What is the Cuban theatre company that has the status of ambassadors of peace? [00:03:00,545] No, I cannot place it right now, the truth, I do not remember. It is art which specifically makes of us human beings, rational, critical and ethically committed. Can you tell me the name of a Cuban painter? Of a Cuban painter? Can you tell me the name of a Cuban painter? Yes. We have Mendive, we have Choco, we have Kcho, we have Kai. [00:03:31,872] Through culture Man exists. He becomes aware of himself. He questions his achievements and tirelessly looks for new meanings and creates works that transcend them. [00:03:43,630] And a country without culture would be a country, let us say, I do not know, savage; a country that does not believe in many things; of the importance it has. Our biggest concern of the day was deciding what to wear as all of our food and drinks were included for the entire week. Whether we wanted to order a pizza at 3 pm or have a buffet lunch or dinner was entirely up to us. Moreover, we had the opportunity to drink all kinds of delicious nonalcoholic and alcoholic beverages such as Pina Colada, Cuba Libre, Cuban Rum, Bucanero, Cerveza Cristal, TuKola Ciego Montero, Cristal Beer, Cuban Beer and Rum and Coke. On afternoons that weren't spent at the beach, we often were hanging out at the pool participating in aqua aerobics, yoga, tai chi or life sized chess. The few times we set our alarms in the morning, we were rewarded with spectacular sunrises and in the evening brilliant sunsets. There was also a small village at the perimeter of our resort where we could pick up Cuba souvenirs such as Cuban cigars and Cuban paintings. For nighttime entertainment we enjoyed live Cuban music and dance performances including Cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba and Salsa. The week flew by and this is the type of Cuban vacation I've always dreamed off. If we reach a point where we feel stressed out or in need of a digital detox we'll certainly considering coming back to Cuba again. Our honeymoon in Cuba: Cuba vacation in Cayo Santa Maria This week Sam and I are in Cuba on our honeymoon. Woo! So yeah, we're going to be spending a full week here at an all inclusive. We are staying in Cayo Santa Maria and we are going to be showing you what it is like to just take a week off, relax and not really travel. I think it is beach time. After a year and a half of round the world travels, we wanted our honeymoon to be very relaxed and easy going. This was very unlike us, but we didn't plan any side trips or run around touring attractions. Our trip to Cuba was all about enjoying the beach, drinking pina coladas, and cooling off in the pool. The Caribbean is home to some spectacular beaches, but we think Cuba may have the best of them all! So it is time to play life sized chess. I think I can probably beat Sam. So how was that easy victory of yours? Huh? Let's count how many pieces I have left. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven. And I only have my King. That is so rude. You didn't let your new bride win. Domination. Domination. Cuban singing, dancing and performing. The most work we did was set the alarm clock to go catch a beach sunrise. One of the best part of being at an all inclusive resort is the endless supply of drinks. Rum and coke. Pina Colada. Bucanero. Cola Ciego Montero Cristal So it must be over forty degrees today and the sea is a bit choppy so it is a perfect day for the pool. The pool was the heart of the action. By 10 am the crowd had descended for an endless flow of rum. There were also lots of fun activities like water aerobics to keep everyone entertained. While we didn't leave the resort, we did make some time to pick up a few souvenirs to take back home. Cuban rum, anyone? And aside from that, we just spent more time at the beach! The waters were so calm and inviting, that we often spent the whole day there just reading book and enjoying the beauty of it all. And that's a little taste of our Cuban honeymoon. If you're looking for a relaxed sun destination, then Cuba won't disappoint! Cayo Santa María This is part of our Travel in Cuba series. As of 22 October 2014, a delegation of 53 Cuban health workers arrived in Liberia to help fight the Ebola outbreak. The Cuban team consists of nurses, doctors, epidemiologists and intensive care specialists. Having received an initial Ebola training in Cuba, all team members received a second training in Liberia on how to work in an Ebola treatment unit. Being one of the first foreign medical teams to respond to the Ebola outbreak in Liberia, the Cuban delegation will stay in the country for 6 months. They will work in shifts in smaller teams mainly in the newly opened Ebola treatment unit located at the former Ministry of Defence compound in Monrovia.

She says she hopes that the Cuban response to Ebola, sending doctors rather than troops, shows that better things can be done for people with science, solidarity and tenderness, and trying to end the pandemic. She believes that health is a human right, and a human life something you cannot put a price on, and something which you cannot put a price on cannot be on the market. She says that for first time, important American press are saying good things about Cuba, ‘almost a historical event.’ She argues that a cultural exchange is needed in order for Britain to get to know the real Cuba, and also for Cuba to get to know Britain. She warns that public opinion in the US is easily manipulated by the media, but slowly people are realising that they have a closer relationship than they think, and there is hope that the blockade could be lifted. She says that Britain does have the right to refuse entry for one of the Miami 5, but it is not a decision that she understands. She explains that the blockade affects their relationship with every country in the world as the US seeks to prevent free trade between Cuba and any country, not just America. And she believes that Cameron could break the blockade, and he should not let the States influence the relationship between the UK and Cuba. On this special episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin highlights part II of BTS’ eight day trip to Havana, Cuba, starting with an interview with Cuban doctor, Katiel Llorente Izabelez, who explains how Cuba has managed to maintain such a high life expectancy rate, despite the lack of access to up to date medical supplies. BTS producer, Cody Snell, then speaks with students at the Latin American School of Medicine, an international medical school set up by the Cuban government that provides free tuition to low income individuals that want to become doctors. Abby then discusses how Cuba managed to send the largest contingent of doctors to fight the ebola crisis in West Africa, and how this is just the latest example of the country’s medical internationalism. Abby then goes over the US programs meant to encourage Cuban doctors to defect and how this undermines international health efforts. BTS wraps up the show with an exclusive interview with Mariela Castro, daughter of Cuban President, Raul Castro, and director of Cuba’s sexual education program CENESEX, about the biggest challenges facing Cuba’s gay community. Cuban Public Health Minister Roberto Morales announced Friday that Havana would send 165 health workers to Africa to fight the Ebola outbreak. The World Health Organization welcomed the decision. teleSUR http://multimedia.telesurtv.net/web/telesur/#!en/video/cuba-to-send-health-care-workers-to-africa-to-fight-ebola
Amid the worst Ebola outbreak of our time, it has been the small island nation of Cuba that has provided arguably the most impressive policy response. Instead of offering financial assistance to those West African nations most in need, the Cuban government has focused on providing skilled healthcare workers passionate about helping Ebola victims. The Cuban response is based on a combination of pre-existing government commitments to the provision of universal healthcare, the establishment of a medical education system emphasizing service to others, and Cuba's efforts to bolster its international reputation. Cuba's government has a long history of providing universal healthcare as a human right, a belief that was enshrined in the 1976 constitution. Consequently, it has always been committed to helping other nations in need, extending the government's policy beliefs beyond its borders. These efforts were partly inspired by Ernesto Che Guevara, the Argentine-born doctor who fought alongside Fidel Castro during the Cuban revolution. Che Guevara repeatedly encouraged doctors to use their medical skills in the service of others.

Travel video about destination Cuba. Basking in the Caribbean sun, the island of Cuba lies between sun and socialism, rumba and revolution. Havana is the capital. In 1553, the Spanish conquerors designated Havana’s harbour as a collection point for ships loaded with gold and silver from the new Spanish colonies and named the settlement, San Cristobal De La Habana.La Bodeguita Del Medio was once Hemmingway`s local and nowhere else is the ‘Mojito’ mixed better: three year old white rum, lime juice, soda, sugar, ice and mint. Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house, or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but busy town in which the Red Star and portraits of Che Guevara are displayed for all to see. In the old town, colourful houses with beautiful pillared corridors demonstrate the former wealth of the country’s independent tobacco growers. Time means little here. While observing life on the streets, one begins to think in the same relaxed tempo of the leisurely-smoked cigars. A visit to a tobacco factory is a must. Cuba’s cigars are world famous. Together with sugar, tobacco is the country’s most important export. The oldest geological formation in Cuba are the Mogotes, well-weathered limestone peaks which, supported by pillars, once covered a large complex of caves. Over many decades, subterranean rivers flooded the earth below and thus created these gigantic grottos. On seven manmade islands in the centre of the Cienaga De Zapata National Park, is the Indian village of Guama. This swampy nature reserve with its dense mangrove forest vegetation offers an ideal sanctuary for many rare water birds. No Cuban town has changed as little in two hundred years than that of Trinidad. In the 18th century, the city experienced great wealth and recognition due to the cultivation of sugar cane and the luxurious palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city. Rich green tropical forests, tobacco country at the foot of mysterious mountain caves, humid tropical swamps, history, cigars and rum. Cuba is a colourful cocktail

Spanish governor, Diego Velasquez ordered to have it founded in 1514. Sancti Spiritus i.e. Saints' Souls is one of the oldest cities of Cuba. Spanish governor, Diego Velasquez ordered to have it founded in 1514. In the main square flanked with colonial style houses, the schools of the city can be found. While in the junior section of elementary school, the pupils wear a blue tie and the senior section, they wear a red tie, the students at secondary schools have a uniform consisting of a yellow skirt or trousers with a white shirt or blouse. There're nice dashes of color in the streets of Cuba. In the middle of the square, decorated with palm trees, a bandstand and the statue of the strategist who was killed in action General Serafin Sanchez can be found. He isn't alone, sharing his solitude with the stone statue of Jose Marti. The venerable hotel of the city is the Perla de Cuba. Because its rooms have a high ceiling, the roof of the building is at the same level as the tower of the church. The building of the theater, decorated with columns and balconies is an important element of the city. The main square is the center of social life where friends come together to have a chat. As everywhere in the torrid zone, the people here like living their lives in the streets. In the side streets opening from the square, the Presbyterian church and the big parish church can be found. The museum of colonial arts lies on the road leading to the River Yayabo. Take a tour of Havana's Capitolio in Cuba -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The National Capitol building in Havana, popularly known as El Capitolio, housed the nation's legislative branch until the Cuban Revolution in 1959. The building, known for its sophisticated and impressive design was the brainchild of the Cuban dictator Gerardo Machado. Built in neo-classical style, this monument instantly reminds one of the US Capitol but its architect insists that it was the Panthéon in Paris that was his source of inspiration for the cupola. This building of great national significance took years to be constructed and was inaugurated on May 20th 1929. It was 2 years later, in 1931, that the legislature began operating out of El Capitolio. Today, the building is famously known as it holds the headquarters of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

On this special episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin highlights BTS’ eight day trip to Havana, Cuba, starting with a historical look at the tensions between the US and Cuba that have led the two countries to the negotiating table to normalize relations. Abby then discusses the major areas of contention when it comes to these negotiations and where they currently stand. BTS producer, Cody Snell, then speaks with members of the largest delegation of peace activists to visit Cuba since the normalized relations announcement, highlighting the role of grassroots diplomacy. BTS than talks to average Cubans both in Havana and in Miami about their views on the state of US-Cuban relations. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Kenia Serrano, a high ranking Cuban parliament member and President of The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, about everything from internet access to the crackdown on free speech in the country. Subscribe to Journeyman for news and science reports every weekday: http://www.youtube.com/journeymanpictures.html For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=10317 The dream of a socialist paradise in Cuba has soured. Unemployment has reached record levels, inequalities are increasing and the economy has nearly collapsed. Now people are starting to blame Castro. A woman shows us around her decrepit home. For the past two years, she has been reduced to living in an abandoned cinema. “It leaks a lot and the top floor is also collapsing,” she complains. “The economic, political and social situation in Cuba really couldn’t get any worse,” states prominent dissenter Vladimiro Roca. Since September 11th the tourism dollars have stopped flowing and over a third of Cuba’s hotels have closed. “There’s still enormous fear in Cuba but people are starting to criticise the government,” comments Roca. The young are leading the assault, using music to voice their concerns. “You’re scared of change, you’re scared of one person. What’s happening Cuba?” raps Junior Clan. Under pressure to act, Castro has opened his arms to corporate America. “The United States has done a lot to develop agriculture and industry in the world,” he enthuses. For Oswaldo Paya, organiser of the Varela project which collected 11,000 signatories demanding change, it’s not enough. He now faces constant harassment from the security services but remains unrepentant. “We’re basically saying we don’t want to submit to fear any more.” ABC Australia: Ref 1475 Journeyman Pictures is your independent source for the world's most powerful films, exploring the burning issues of today. Travel To Cuba: The 8th Wonder Of The World - World Documentary Channel Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is an island country in the Caribbean. The united state of Cuba consists of the major island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud and numerous island chains. Havana is the funding of Cuba and its largest city. The second-largest city is Santiago de Cuba. To the north of Cuba exists the United States (150 km (93 mi) away), the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are to the northeast, Mexico is to the west (210 km (130 mi) away), the Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast. Tourism was initially restricted to enclave hotels where tourists would be segregated from Cuban society, described as "enclave tourism" and "tourism apartheid". Calls between foreign visitors and average Cubans were de facto illegal between 1992 and 1997. The rapid development of tourism during the Special Period had prevalent social and financial effects in Cuba, and brought about speculation concerning the development of a two-tier economy. The Guardian 2015-03-29Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, (i/ˈkjuːbə/; Spanish: República de Cuba, pronounced: [reˈpuβlika ðe ˈkuβa] ( listen)) is an island country in the Caribbean. The nation of Cuba consists of the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud, and several archipelagos. Havana is the largest city in Cuba and the country's capital. Santiago de Cuba is the second largest city. To the north of Cuba lies the United States (140 km or 90 mi away) and the Bahamas, Mexico is to the west, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south, and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast.
In 1492, Christopher Columbus landed on and claimed the island now occupied by Cuba, for the Kingdom of Spain. Cuba remained a territory of Spain until the Spanish–American War ended in 1898, and gained formal independence from the U.S. in 1902. A fragile democracy, increasingly dominated by radical politics eventually evolved, solidified by the Cuban Constitution of 1940, but was definitely quashed in 1952 by former president Fulgencio Batista, and an authoritarian regime was set up, intensifying and catalyzing already rampant corruption, political repression and crippling economic regulations.Batista was ousted in January 1959 by the July 26 movement, and a new administration under Fidel Castro established, which had by 1965 evolved into a single-party state under the revived Communist Party of Cuba, which holds power to date.
refrain:
When you got the feeling
You try to get higher
You think you're going insane
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Oooh!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Oh, when you spin 'n' stompin'
There's no way out
You're getting down by the sound
And you fool about, feet around
As you inspire
It really knocks yourself out
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Yeah!)
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Come on, man, y'all
Yeah, you got it now
Have a real good time
Do the non stop dance
Non stop, mmm, dance
Yeah
Non stop (Dance) (3x)
Non stop (Dance!)
refrain
You're almost crazy
It really drives you mad
You feel it coming your way
Have a real good time
Do the dance (Hey!)
Have a real good time

Do the dance (Do the dance)
Do the dance (You're getting down by the sound)
Do the dance (Do the dance)

Babe I'm leaving the country
You know I just gotta go
This record company bull-shit
They break my heart, they rape my soul
And they're only after the dollar
And they're dollars, they're dollars
They're house in the hills
I'm gonna break free of this saccharine sunshine
Go my way to where the blood can spill
So come on down to Cuba
Come play in the sand
We can drink and go scuba
We'll make love out on the beach
And then we'll run out
Away from the world
And I will be your jungle hero
And you, you, you can be my girl.
I'm gonna go down to Cuba
I'm gonna make me some brand new friends
I'm gonna wait for the country to open
And when the music-mother-fuckers try to move right in
I'm gonna be there already waiting
With my long-range rifle and a perfect plan
And when they're all walking on the guitar mat
Amigo, não insista,
desista
Eu não vou mudar.
O meu destino é certo
Prá Cuba, quero viajar! (2x)
Eu disse, outro lugar
Não tem Fidel,
Não tem aquele céu...
Não tem Guevara
Que é a minha cara.
Tudo foi pro beleléu...
Não tem Havana, sandália Havaiana,
Não tem calça Lee.
