The 1974 Australian Manufacturers' Championship was a CAMS sanctioned Australian national motor racing title open to Group C Touring Cars.[1] The championship, which was the fourth Australian Manufacturers' Championship, was won by General Motors-Holden's.[2]

Bond initially made a reputation as a hillclimber with three NSW Hillclimb titles in 1965-67 driving a Lynx-Peugeot S/C. Also known as a rally driver he was relatively unknown in circuit racing circles apart from a few forays racing various Isuzu Belletts, when he was chosen to partner Tony Roberts in one of three Holden Dealer Team entered Holden Monaros for the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst. On a day when the Fords crumbled with unsuitable tyres for the race, the HDT stood strong, putting all three Monaros into the top six positions with Bond and Roberts winning.
Torana GTR XU-1
Bond and Shepheard in the Holden Dealer Team Torana GTR XU-1 on their way to another win in the Warana Rally, round four of the 1972 Australian Rally Championship.
The nimble 6-cylinder Torana GTR XU-1 debuted in late 1970 and in 1971 Bond began racking up an impressive list of race and rally titles in his Torana. He secured the Manufacturer's Championship for Holden by winning 3 out of 5 rounds, including the Sandown 250 enduro in his XU-1. He also won the Australian Rally Championship and the Southern Cross Rally, along with the South Pacific Touring Series that year.
Late in 1971 Bond had a couple of drives with Frank Matich's F5000 team. One was in the Australian Grand Prix at Warwick Farm and driving in a wet practice session Bond put in lap times seconds faster than his more experienced F5000 rivals. After his open-wheeler stint he opted to stay with the Holden Dealer Team.
The following year Bond won the Australian Rally Championship for the second year in a row. Bond also won the Catalina Park rallycross series, while on the bitumen he won the Toby Lee Series and Sun-7 Gold Medal. In 1973 he again won the Sun-7 series at Amaroo Park.
1974 ARC winners Colin Bond and George Shepheard in the HDT Torana GTR XU-1 at the Warana Rally, round five of the 1974 Australian Rally Championship.
In 1974, as well as winning his third national Rally Championship, Bond won his third consecutive Sun-7 Chesterfield Series against a strong challenge by Bob Morris.
Torana L34
In late 1974, driving the new Holden Torana SL/R 5000 L34, he contributed to Holden's victory in the Australian Manufacturers' Championship, again winning three out of five rounds.
Peter Brock left the Holden Dealer Team at the end of 1974. So for the 1975 season Colin Bond was the team's No.1 driver. That year he won the Australian Touring Car Championship and also won the South Pacific Touring Car Series. At Bathurst Bond won pole position and led for much of the early part of the race but a broken axle at half distance put him too far back to challenge Peter Brock.
Reproduction of the 1976 Bathurst Bond/Harvey Torana
Bond was involved in a dramatic finish in 1976 at the Bathurst 1000. Late in the race when it seemed Bond, in the Holden Dealer Team Torana L34, had the race sewn up he was forced to pull into the pits with fanbelt trouble allowing the Bob Morris Torana to take the lead. In the final laps Morris's co-driver, British touring car ace John Fitzpatrick, nursed home an ailing car trailing smoke ahead of Bond's Torana which finished about 40 seconds behind.
In 1987, motoring writer Bill Tuckey in his book The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock claimed that there had been a lap scoring error in the 1976 race and that Colin Bond's Torana was the first car to complete the distance. Tuckey claimed Holden declined to challenge the result because a privately entered Holden team had won in such a memorable, emotional finish, and because Bob Morris' major sponsor was Ron Hodgson Motors, one of Sydney's leading Holden dealerships at the time. It remains however a contested footnote, Bob Morris denies that this was the case, claiming most team lap scorers agreed that the results were correct. Despite this, Bond's co-driver John Harvey believes that he and Bond did indeed win the race, despite the official result still showing Morris and Fitzpatrick as race winners.

Colin Bond
Colin John Bond (born 24 February 1942) is a retired Australian racing driver. Bond reached the highest levels in Australian motorsport in 1969 when he was recruited by Harry Firth to the newly formed Holden Dealer Team. He quickly found success, winning the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 mile race (now the Bathurst 1000) at Bathurst, New South Wales in a Holden Monaro.
Bond was a particularly versatile driver, also finding success in the Australian Rally Championship, winning the title in 1971, 1972 and 1974 driving a Holden Torana. Bond also won the 1975 Australian Touring Car Championship in a Holden Torana and was inducted into the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame in 2002.

Peter Brock
Peter Geoffrey Brock, AM (26 February 1945 – 8 September 2006) otherwise known as "Peter Perfect", "The King of the Mountain" or simply "Brocky" was one of Australia's best-known and most successful motor racing drivers. Brock was most often associated with Holden for almost 40 years, although he raced vehicles of other manufacturers including BMW, Ford, Volvo, Porsche and Peugeot. He won the Bathurst 1000 endurance race nine times, the Sandown 500 touring car race nine times, the Australian Touring Car Championship three times, the Bathurst 24 Hour once and was inducted into the V8 Supercar Hall of Fame in 2001. Brock's business activities included the Holden Dealer Team (HDT) that produced Brock's racing machines as well as a number of modified high-performance road versions of his racing cars.
Early years
Brock was born at the Epworth Hospital, Richmond, Victoria, the son of Geoff and Ruth Brock (née Laidlay). The family lived in the country town of Hurstbridge (now an outer suburb of Melbourne) and Brock continued to live there throughout his life. He attended Eltham High School in Eltham Victoria His first car was an Austin 7 that he bought for £5 (A$10). He claimed that his driving skill improved at this point of his life because the car did not have brakes (or a body, which was removed with his father's axe).

Bathurst 1000
The Bathurst 1000 (currently branded as the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 for sponsorship reasons) is a 1,000-kilometre (620 mi) touring car race held annually on the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. It is currently run as a championship event for V8 Supercars.
Widely regarded as the pinnacle of motorsport in Australia, the Bathurst 1000 is colloquially known as The Great Race among motorsport fans and media. The race concept originated with the 1960 Armstrong 500 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, before being relocated to Bathurst in 1963 and continuing there in every year since. The race was traditionally run on the Labour Day long weekend in New South Wales, in early October. Since 2001, the race is run on the weekend after the long weekend, normally the second weekend in October.
Race winners are presented with the Peter Brock Trophy. This trophy was introduced at the 2006 race to commemorate the death of Peter Brock. Brock is the most successful driver in the history of the race, winning the event nine times, and was also known as one of the most popular and fan-friendly drivers during his long career.

The 1974 Australian Manufacturers' Championship was a CAMS sanctioned Australian national motor racing title open to Group C Touring Cars.[1] The championship, which was the fourth Australian Manufacturers' Championship, was won by General Motors-Holden's.[2]

Bond initially made a reputation as a hillclimber with three NSW Hillclimb titles in 1965-67 driving a Lynx-Peugeot S/C. Also known as a rally driver he was relatively unknown in circuit racing circles apart from a few forays racing various Isuzu Belletts, when he was chosen to partner Tony Roberts in one of three Holden Dealer Team entered Holden Monaros for the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst. On a day when the Fords crumbled with unsuitable tyres for the race, the HDT stood strong, putting all three Monaros into the top six positions with Bond and Roberts winning.

Bond and Shepheard in the Holden Dealer Team Torana GTR XU-1 on their way to another win in the Warana Rally, round four of the 1972 Australian Rally Championship.
The nimble 6-cylinder Torana GTR XU-1 debuted in late 1970 and in 1971 Bond began racking up an impressive list of race and rally titles in his Torana. He secured the Manufacturer's Championship for Holden by winning 3 out of 5 rounds, including the Sandown 250 enduro in his XU-1. He also won the Australian Rally Championship and the Southern Cross Rally, along with the South Pacific Touring Series that year.
Late in 1971 Bond had a couple of drives with Frank Matich's F5000 team. One was in the Australian Grand Prix at Warwick Farm and driving in a wet practice session Bond put in lap times seconds faster than his more experienced F5000 rivals. After his open-wheeler stint he opted to stay with the Holden Dealer Team.
The following year Bond won the Australian Rally Championship for the second year in a row. Bond also won the Catalina Park rallycross series, while on the bitumen he won the Toby Lee Series and Sun-7 Gold Medal. In 1973 he again won the Sun-7 series at Amaroo Park.

In 1974, as well as winning his third national Rally Championship, Bond won his third consecutive Sun-7 Chesterfield Series against a strong challenge by Bob Morris.

Peter Brock left the Holden Dealer Team at the end of 1974. So for the 1975 season Colin Bond was the team's No.1 driver. That year he won the Australian Touring Car Championship and also won the South Pacific Touring Car Series. At Bathurst Bond won pole position and led for much of the early part of the race but a broken axle at half distance put him too far back to challenge Peter Brock.
Reproduction of the 1976 Bathurst Bond/Harvey Torana
Bond was involved in a dramatic finish in 1976 at the Bathurst 1000. Late in the race when it seemed Bond, in the Holden Dealer Team Torana L34, had the race sewn up he was forced to pull into the pits with fanbelt trouble allowing the Bob Morris Torana to take the lead. In the final laps Morris's co-driver, British touring car ace John Fitzpatrick, nursed home an ailing car trailing smoke ahead of Bond's Torana which finished about 40 seconds behind.
In 1987, motoring writer Bill Tuckey in his book The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock claimed that there had been a lap scoring error in the 1976 race and that Colin Bond's Torana was the first car to complete the distance. Tuckey claimed Holden declined to challenge the result because a privately entered Holden team had won in such a memorable, emotional finish, and because Bob Morris' major sponsor was Ron Hodgson Motors, one of Sydney's leading Holden dealerships at the time. It remains however a contested footnote, Bob Morris denies that this was the case, claiming most team lap scorers agreed that the results were correct. Despite this, Bond's co-driver John Harvey believes that he and Bond did indeed win the race, despite the official result still showing Morris and Fitzpatrick as race winners.

Bond initially made a reputation as a hillclimber with three NSW Hillclimb titles in 1965-67 driving a Lynx-Peugeot S/C. Also known as a rally driver he was relatively unknown in circuit racing circles apart from a few forays racing various Isuzu Belletts, when he was chosen to partner Tony Roberts in one of three Holden Dealer Team entered Holden Monaros for the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst. On a day when the Fords crumbled with unsuitable tyres for the race, the HDT stood strong, putting all three Monaros into the top six positions with Bond and Roberts winning.

Bond and Shepheard in the Holden Dealer Team Torana GTR XU-1 on their way to another win in the Warana Rally, round four of the 1972 Australian Rally Championship.
The nimble 6-cylinder Torana GTR XU-1 debuted in late 1970 and in 1971 Bond began racking up an impressive list of race and rally titles in his Torana. He secured the Manufacturer's Championship for Holden by winning 3 out of 5 rounds, including the Sandown 250 enduro in his XU-1. He also won the Australian Rally Championship and the Southern Cross Rally, along with the South Pacific Touring Series that year.
Late in 1971 Bond had a couple of drives with Frank Matich's F5000 team. One was in the Australian Grand Prix at Warwick Farm and driving in a wet practice session Bond put in lap times seconds faster than his more experienced F5000 rivals. After his open-wheeler stint he opted to stay with the Holden Dealer Team.
The following year Bond won the Australian Rally Championship for the second year in a row. Bond also won the Catalina Park rallycross series, while on the bitumen he won the Toby Lee Series and Sun-7 Gold Medal. In 1973 he again won the Sun-7 series at Amaroo Park.
1974 ARC winners Colin Bond and George Shepheard in the HDT Torana GTR XU-1 at the Warana Rally, round five of the 1974 Australian Rally Championship.
In 1974, as well as winning his third national Rally Championship, Bond won his third consecutive Sun-7 Chesterfield Series against a strong challenge by Bob Morris.

Late in the race when it seemed Bond, in the Holden Dealer Team Torana L34, had the race sewn up he was forced to pull into the pits with fanbelt trouble allowing the Bob Morris Torana to take the lead. In the final laps Morris's co-driver, British touring car ace John Fitzpatrick, nursed home an ailing car trailing smoke ahead of Bond's Torana which finished about 40 seconds behind.
In 1987, motoring writer Bill Tuckey in his book The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock claimed that there had been a lap scoring error in the 1976 race and that Colin Bond's Torana was the first car to complete the distance. Tuckey claimed Holden declined to challenge the result because a privately entered Holden team had won in such a memorable, emotional finish, and because Bob Morris' major sponsor was Ron Hodgson Motors, one of Sydney's leading Holden dealerships at the time. It remains however a contested footnote, Bob Morris denies that this was the case, claiming most team lap scorers agreed that the results were correct. Despite this, Bond's co-driver John Harvey believes that he and Bond did indeed win the race, despite the official result still showing Morris and Fitzpatrick as race winners.

Bond initially made a reputation as a hillclimber with three NSW Hillclimb titles in 1965-67 driving a Lynx-Peugeot S/C. Also known as a rally driver he was relatively unknown in circuit racing circles apart from a few forays racing various Isuzu Belletts, when he was chosen to partner Tony Roberts in one of three Holden Dealer Team entered Holden Monaros for the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Bathurst. On a day when the Fords crumbled with unsuitable tyres for the race, the HDT stood strong, putting all three Monaros into the top six positions with Bond and Roberts winning.

The nimble 6-cylinder Torana GTR XU-1 debuted in late 1970 and in 1971 Bond began racking up an impressive list of race and rally titles in his Torana. He secured the Manufacturer's Championship for Holden by winning 3 out of 5 rounds, including the Sandown 250 enduro in his XU-1. He also won the Australian Rally Championship and the Southern Cross Rally, along with the South Pacific Touring Series that year.
Late in 1971 Bond had a couple of drives with Frank Matich's F5000 team. One was in the Australian Grand Prix at Warwick Farm and driving in a wet practice session Bond put in lap times seconds faster than his more experienced F5000 rivals. After his open-wheeler stint he opted to stay with the Holden Dealer Team.
The following year Bond won the Australian Rally Championship for the second year in a row. Bond also won the Catalina Park rallycross series, while on the bitumen he won the Toby Lee Series and Sun-7 Gold Medal. In 1973 he again won the Sun-7 series at Amaroo Park.

Late in the race when it seemed Bond, in the Holden Dealer Team Torana L34, had the race sewn up he was forced to pull into the pits with fanbelt trouble allowing the Bob Morris Torana to take the lead. In the final laps Morris's co-driver, British touring car ace John Fitzpatrick, nursed home an ailing car trailing smoke ahead of Bond's Torana which finished about 40 seconds behind.
In 1987, motoring writer Bill Tuckey in his book The Rise and Fall of Peter Brock claimed that there had been a lap scoring error in the 1976 race and that Colin Bond's Torana was the first car to complete the distance. Tuckey claimed Holden declined to challenge the result because a privately entered Holden team had won in such a memorable, emotional finish, and because Bob Morris' major sponsor was Ron Hodgson Motors, one of Sydney's leading Holden dealerships at the time. It remains however a contested footnote, Bob Morris denies that this was the case, claiming most team lap scorers agreed that the results were correct. Despite this, Bond's co-driver John Harvey believes that he and Bond did indeed win the race, despite the official result still showing Morris and Fitzpatrick as race winners.

Alan Hamilton and Tony Loxley on Classic Motorsport
With an impressive motorsport history under his belt, Alan Hamilton's talk at the HSRCA's September 2015 meeting included of interest for everyone. Alan has won the Australian hillclimb racing title on four occasions, raced McLarens and Lola derivatives and raced touring cars including claiming second place at Bathurst in 1977 with Colin Bond in one of Allan Moffat’s Falcons.
For Porsche enthusiasts he’s raced plenty of those as well and provided top cars for Alan Jones and Colin Bond, along with F5000 and Atlantic cars for long time driver Alfredo Constanzo. And Alfie and Alan are still at it with McLarens in historic races!
This evening also featured the launch of Tony Loxley’s new book Tasman Cup 1964 – 1975, and a very entertaining talk by him and some of those who participated in that wonderful decade.

After more than five years, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is ready to set sail again. The first teaser and poster for the fifth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales debuted during last night’s Fear the Walking Dead but does not feature Johnny Depp’s famous Jack Sparrow character. Instead, the one minute, fifty second spot features Javier Bardem’s zombie-ish Captain Salazar asking for Sparrow with a simple message: “Find Sparrow and tell him… death will come straight for him.”
Justice League has wrapping filming in London, and to celebrate, Jason Momoa shared a shirtless picture of himself on Instagram, thanking the cast and crew but apologizing that he won’t be able to make the wrap party as he prepares for the North. Though filming has wrapped in London, it's not the end of the shoot. Filming will continue in a more remote location in the Westfjords of Iceland.
It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend Box Office Report, brought to you by our friends at AMC theatres. Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children took the lead this past weekend in the No 1 spot, pulling in $28.5 million dollars in its first weekend in theatres. Another new release, Deepwater Horizon took the No 2 spot with $20.6 million dollars. The Magnificent Seven fell to No 3 in its second weekend, pulling in $15.7 million dollars, bringing its domestic total to $61.6 million. At No 4 was Storks, taking in $13.8 million on its second weekend, with a domestic total now at $38.8 million dollars. And in the No 5 spot, Sully added another $8.4 million to its total, crossing the 100-million-mark domestic for $105.3 million.

Fox’s marketing campaign is about to begin for War for the Planet of the Apes with Fox announcing Friday that the first footage from the sequel will be unveiled at New York Comic-Con on Thursday, October 6th with director Matt Reeves and star Andy Serkis on hand. In addition to the Comic-Con announcement, the first official synopsis for the movie has been unveiled.
While doing press for Spectre, Daniel Craig was asked if he would return to play James Bond again and he famously told Time Out magazine that he’d rather break some glass and slash his wrists. Now, in a recent interview with BBC, executive producer Callum McDougall was asked if Craig would return and if he’s still the first choice.
Though Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow bowed out of directing its sequel in order to tackle Lucasfilm and Disney’s Star Wars Episode 9, he is still very much involved as a writer and producer. Speaking to the Jurassic Park fan podcast InGeneral, Trevorrow teased that given new director J.A. Bayona’s horror background, fans can expect something a bit more intense the next time around.
The first trailer for Personal Shopper has been released online. Directed by Clouds of Sils Maria filmmaker Olivier Assayas, the film stars Kristen Stewart as a high-fashion personal shopper who, after her twin brother’s death, returns to his home in Paris to look for signs from the afterlife. The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and is scheduled to hit theatres on March 10, 2017.
