The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO /ˈneɪtoʊ/; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord; OTAN), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium, one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009. An additional 22 countries participate in NATO's Partnership for Peace program, with 15 other countries involved in institutionalized dialogue programmes. The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70 percent of the global total.[4] Members' defense spending is supposed to amount to 2 percent of GDP.[5] NATO was little more than a political association until the Korean War galvanized the organization's member states, and an integrated military structure was built up under the direction of two US supreme commanders. The course of the Cold War led to a rivalry with nations of the Warsaw Pact, which formed in 1955. Doubts over the strength of the relationship between the European states and the United States ebbed and flowed, along with doubts over the credibility of the NATO defence against a prospective Soviet invasion—doubts that led to the development of the independent French nuclear deterrent and the withdrawal of the French from NATO's military structure in 1966 for 30 years. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the organization was drawn into the breakup of Yugoslavia, and conducted its first military interventions in Bosnia from 1992 to 1995 and later Yugoslavia in 1999. Politically, the organization sought better relations with former Warsaw Pact countries, several of which joined the alliance in 1999 and 2004. Article 5 of the North Atlantic treaty, requiring member states to come to the aid of any member state subject to an armed attack, was invoked for the first and only time after the 11 September 2001 attacks,[6] after which troops were deployed to Afghanistan under the NATO-led ISAF. The organization has operated a range of additional roles since then, including sending trainers to Iraq, assisting in counter-piracy operations[7] and in 2011 enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya in accordance with U.N. Security Council Resolution 1973. The less potent Article 4, which merely invokes consultation among NATO members, has been invoked four times: by Turkey in 2003 over the Iraq War, twice in 2012 by Turkey over the Syrian Civil War after the

No to any violation of Iraq’s sovereignty… This is the main reaction by Iraqi politicians to Turkish parliament’s recent decision to allow the country’s army to intervene in Iraq in case of what the parliamentarians called terrorist terrors coming from Iraq. The MP also urged Iraqi government to react towards to any intervention plan in Iraq. She also called on UN Security Council to take appropriate measures in case of any Turkish intervention in Iraq’s internal affairs. Other Iraqi politicians reject as baseless justifications of such decision saying Iraq is capable enough to tackle terrorist attacks inside its soil and there is no need for foreign intervention. Turkish parliament decision comes as according to Iraqis there is no legal justification for it within international laws.Experts warn that moves like this will pave the way for other countries to intervene in Iraqi's internal affairs. The Iraqi government and people say they are opposed to any foreign military intervention in their country, considering it a breach of Iraq's sovereignty. They believe that Iraqi armed forces and government can defend the country and emerge victorious in the war on terrorism.
Turkish military officials say the country’s prime minister is shipping arms to terrorists via Syria-bound trucks operated by Turkey’s national intelligence service. The revelations come after Premier Ahmet Davutoglu banned media from reporting on some trucks searched by Gendarmerie General Command. The vehicles were carrying missiles, mortar rounds, and anti-aircraft ammunition. Gendarmerie said the trucks were carrying weapons and supplies to al-Qaeda and ISIL militants. Davutoglu also removed the public prosecutor who had ordered the search. Thirteen soldiers involved in the search have been charged with espionage and are facing 20-year prison terms. ISIL militants are already wandering around freely in Istanbul without fear of local authorities. Turkey could lend military or logistical support to U.S.-led air strikes against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants in Syria, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was quoted as saying on Sept. 23, signaling a potential shift in Ankara’s stance on the issue. “We will give the necessary support to the operation. This could be military or logistical,” Erdoğan was quoted as telling reporters in New York. The United States and its Arab allies bombed Syria for the first time earlier on the same day, targeting members of a separate al-Qaeda-linked group, along with ISIL, opening a new front against militants and directly intervening in Syria’s three-year-old civil war. Turkey has so far refused a military role in the coalition, citing domestic concerns. Erdoğan’s remarks came days ahead of his crucial Sept. 25 meeting with U.S Vice President Joe Biden. Turkey is home to a major U.S. base in the southern town of İncirlik, which officials says has not been used so far in any lethal strikes in Iraq or Syria. Erdoğan said Turkey viewed the U.S.-led action positively and stressed it should continue. “We are not a country that is outside of the region,” he also said in a separate interview with PBS’s Charlie Rose, justifying Ankara’s caution on the issue. “The fire is burning in our region. A total of 1.5 million refugees are not in the U.S., Germary or France, but Turkey.” Erdoğan said Turkish executives were in talks with their U.S. counterparts on how Turkey could contribute to the fight against ISIL. Turkish officials had said the country’s hands were tied while 46 of its citizens were held hostage by ISIL militants in northern Iraq, including its consul general in Mosul. However, on Sept. 20, Turkish intelligence agents brought the hostages back to Turkey after 101 days of captivity, raising questions about whether Ankara might commit more wholeheartedly to the military coalition. “Clearly, Turkey had an initial challenge with respect to its hostages. That being resolved, Turkey is now ready to conduct additional efforts along with the rest of us in order to guarantee success,” U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said at a recent counter-terrorism forum. “Turkey is still determining what its posture is going to be,” a senior U.S. Obama administration official, speaking on background, told reporters Sept. 23. “At minimum, we certainly want their full cooperation and effort to crack down on the flow of foreign fighters in and out of Syria and Iraq. Turkey’s been a transit point for ... foreign fighters, so we’ve had discussions with them on that issue,” the official added. Erdoğan spoke on the sidelines of an annual meeting of world leaders at the United Nations, hours after U.S. and Arab allies launched airstrikes on ISIL targets in Syria. Erdoğan told journalists that Turkey was now considering a role that “includes everything. Both military and political,” Doğan News Agency reported. “Of course we will do our part,” he said.

At an international conference in Paris, more than twenty countries undertook to support the Iraqi government in the battle against the ISIL terrorist group. Turkey which was one of the NATO members taking part in the conference. has said that it will not allow its airbase at Incirlik, some 100kms from the Syrian border, to be used for airstrikes amid concerns over possible civilian casualties among its own citizens. However, many analysts believe that there is more to Turkey's reluctance to take on such a barbaric foe right on its own doorstep. They accuse the government of at best turning a blind eye to extremism so long as it fits in with its own regional priorities of becoming a regional hegemon and following a policy of neo-Ottomanism. Analysts point out that Turkey's foreign policy has been decidedly neo-ottoman at least since 2009, when current Prime Minister Davutoglu was the Foreign Minister. Earlier this week, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered to host exiled Muslim Brotherhood leaders, who have been asked to leave Qatar. While Ankara continues to debate how and to what extent it will contribute to the international coalition against ISIL, the Turkish government is under pressure to stem the flow of extremists crossing its border to fight for ISIL terrorists in Syria.
The United States has hailed a vote by Turkish parliament that allows Ankara to take military action against ISIL terrorists. State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki says retired Marine general John Allen will travel to Turkey next week to hold talks with the country's leaders about the matter. The Turkish parliament's approval allows the deployment of armed forces in Syria and Iraq, as well as the transit of foreign forces in Turkish territory for operations against ISIL. Earlier, the jailed leader of Turkey's outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party warned Ankara that ISIL advances on the Syrian town of Kobani could derail peace talks with the Kurds. The PKK accuses Ankara of colluding with ISIL terrorists. Ankara has been denying Kurdish volunteers' entry to Syria to fight the Takfiri militants. On Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu discussed over the phone the situation in the region and the war against ISIL. During the phone conversation, the Turkish premier vowed that his country will respect Iraq's sovereignty, and that Ankara will seek Baghdad’s approval before taking any actions. But politicians here do not seem to be fully convinced. They say Turkey has already threatened Iraq’s security by stationing troops at its borders with Iraq and Syria. Baghdad has time and again opposed the presence of foreign troops on Iraq’s soil, saying that it forces can, and will defeat the terrorists. Last week Turkey’s parliament voted to authorize military action against the insurgents. But Davutoglu says the Turkish troops will only take a defensive role. Political analysts say that if the US and its allies really mean to defeat the ISIL, they can simply send arms to the Iraqi military. Meanwhile, Washington is still delaying the delivery of three dozen F-16 jets Baghdad purchased long time ago and even partially paid for them. It has become obvious that the U-S and its allies have a different plan for Iraq. The question is whether Turkey will be finally pushed by Washington to intervene militarily in Iraq, or if it will keep its promise to Baghdad and respect the country's sovereignty.

Turkey's parliament is discussing a motion that would give the government new powers to launch attacks in Syria and Iraq. The government bill calls for enabling the Turkish army to launch operations against all threats, including ISIL terrorists, Kurdish P-K-K militants and even Syrian forces. The mandate also authorizes foreign incursions from inside Turkish territories. This is while, Turkey's major opposition parties have opposed the proposal, calling it unacceptable. However, the parliament, which is dominated by the ruling Justice and Development Party, is expected to approve the motion. U.S. suspects accused of sending military supplies to terrorists in Syria, Iraq (CNN, Feb 28, 2015) http://edition.cnn.com/2015/02/28/us/terror-linked-arrests/index.html "Six suspects linked to terrorist activity referred to Syria and Iraq as "the beach," and used other coded language to avoid detection in the United States, authorities say. Attach shatters relative calm in far northern Syria that has been a safe haven for thousands of refugees fleeing the three-year civil war. At least 14 people were killed and 70 wounded in a car bombing on Sunday near a field hospital in a Syrian town on the border with Turkey that serves as a main supply line for rebels fighting President Bashar Assad, activists said. The attack shattered relative calm in a region of far northern Syria that has been a safe haven for thousands of refugees fleeing the three-year civil war. The bomb exploded in the town of Atmeh, situated amid olive groves opposite the Turkish village of Bukulmez in the province of Hatay. The target was a hospital owned by Ghassan Abboud, a pro-opposition businessman who owns Orient Television.

Meanwhile in Turkish parliament, politicians voted to back a motion that could allow the Turkish military to fight in Syria and Iraq. Police in Turkey have used water cannon against protesters amid growing fury over the mining disaster which killed at least 282 workers. Violence flared on the streets of Istanbul as grief turned to anger in the wake of the underground explosion at the mine in Soma, some 155 miles (250km) south of the city. The number of those killed is expected to rise as families lose hope of finding alive any of the estimated 150 miners still feared trapped, with the last survivor brought out more than 24 hours ago. The first funerals have been held for those killed in the underground blast Emergency workers have been fighting fire and toxic fumes in their frantic search at the scene. Row upon row of graves have been dug to bury those killed in Turkey's worst ever mining disaster. In the meantime, security was tightened at the site for a visit of the country's President Abdullah Gul, with officials anxious to avoid a repeat of the anger which greeted Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, when his car was mobbed by protesters. A protester is kicked by an adviser to Turkey's PM during trouble in Soma Pictures have emerged of that visit, showing Yusuf Yerkel, an adviser to the PM, kicking a demonstrator as he is held on the ground by police officers. Miners are holding a strike in protest at the disaster in the face of mounting anger over poor industry safety standards. The major accident has become a focal point of wider dissent against the ruling administration, which has been in power for 11 years, with violent clashes in Istanbul and the capital Ankara. The government said 787 people were inside the coal mine at the time of the explosion, and 363 have been rescued including many who were injured. There have been fresh clashes in Turkey following the disaster But some families have cast doubt on the official figures. Those still trapped are thought to be some 1.2 miles (2km) below the surface and 2.5 miles (4km) from the mine entrance. As thousands of anxious relatives waited for news of Turkey's worst mining disaster, Mr Erdogan was accused of ignoring warnings over safety at the coal pit. A convoy containing his car was attacked by crowds and he was forced to seek refuge in a supermarket, surrounded by police. Scores of graves have been dug close to the mine to bury the dead With feelings running high, protesters shouted for him to resign and said he was a "murderer" and a "thief". And Mr Erdogan's attempt to downplay the disaster at a news conference did little to defuse tensions. He said accidents happened in other countries and even pointed to cases in 19th century Britain. Mr Erdogan said: "These types of things in mines happen all the time. "It's in its nature. It's not possible for there to be no accidents in mines. Of course we were deeply pained by the extent here." He declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to be lowered to half-mast. The public backlash over the disaster could threaten Mr Erdogan's presidential ambitions ahead of the August election.

Turkish troops evacuate soldiers guarding the Suleyman Shah tomb in Syria Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced Sunday Turkish troops have completed a mission to evacuate 38 soldiers guarding the tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria. A hundred vehicles and hundres of soldiers were involved in the mission, he said. The mission was the first ground incursion by Turkish troops into Syria. There were no clashes but one soldier was killed in an accident. The tomb holds the remains of the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire and has been considered Turkish sovereign territory since 1921. The Turkish government said late last year Islamic State militants were advancing on the mauseoleum and had repeatedly vowed to defend it.
Breaking News December 2014 ISIS ISIL DAESH kill Brigadier General Hamid Taqavi Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Iraq - Iran has repeatedly stressed that it will not interfere militarily in Iraq and Syria, but the Islamic Republic continues to provide support to both countries against ISIL in the form of defense consultancy and humanitarian aid. At the onset of the ISIL advances in Iraq, the Islamic Republic took rapid steps to mobilize popular forces in the country. Brigadier General Hamid Taqavi was killed while on “an advisory mission” in the holy city of Samarra. He was killed while conducting the mission in cooperation with the “Iraqi army and popular mobilization (forces) to counter the ISIL Takfiri militants in the vicinity of the shrine of (the eleventh Shia Imam) Hasan al-Askari. Samarra , located around 110 kilometers (68 miles) north of the capital, Baghdad, is home to the shrines of the tenth and eleventh Shia Imams, Ali al-Hadi and Hasan al-Askari. Taqavi was a military commander during the 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war against Iran. Tehran has also refused to join the so-called US-led coalition against ISIL in Iraq and Syria. Published on oct 03, 2014 IS steps up attack on key Syria town | BREAKING NEWS - 03 OCTOBER 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headline SUBSCRIBE: - https://www.youtube.com/user/BBCWorldNews1000 Heavy fighting is being reported between Kurdish militiamen and Islamic State (IS) militants advancing on the northern Syrian town of Kobane. A BBC correspondent across the border in Turkey saw explosions and smoke rising from buildings hit by shells. IS has moved to within a few kilometres of the town despite US-led air strikes seeking to halt its two-week offensive. On Thursday, Turkey's prime minister promised it would do whatever it could to prevent the fall of Kobane. Ahmet Davutoglu spoke only hours after the Turkish parliament authorised military operations against militants in Iraq and Syria who threaten Turkey's security, and for foreign troops to use Turkish bases. More than 160,000 Syrians, mainly Kurds, have fled across the border since IS launched an offensive to capture Kobane on 15 September. 'World remains silent' Shells fired by IS fighters hit several buildings inside Kobane and Kurdish militia positions on a strategically important hill overlooking the town on Friday morning. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based activist group, reported intense fighting to the east and south-east. Kurdish fighters had destroyed two vehicles belonging to jihadists, it said. Earlier, there were reports of an air strike, and a big column of smoke was seen rising to the south-east. Failed Bank Robbery in Turkey Kudos to the security guy.
To some it's known as the 'Turkish Miracle' - an economy that continued to grow in 2011 despite European stagnation. And with Turkey seemingly taking a bigger role in regional foreign affairs - many are looking to the country as an example of sound economic and political practice. But with a global trade and service balance in debt to the tune of 70 billion dollars -- many believe the economy will have to slow this year - if Turkey is to balance its books -- as Howard Johnson reports from Istanbul. Experience onboard Turkish Airlines B737-800 aircraft on a 5 hour flight between Istanbul, Turkey and Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was a full cabin in Economy Class on this red-eye flight but it was comfortable nonetheless. The meal was excellent though it was unfortunate that this aircraft did not offer a personal entertainment system. Despite the full flight, I was able to sleep soundly after my meal. Onboard this Central Asia-bound flight, what impressed me was how kindly the passengers treated each other onboard. Strangers moddle-coddled the small children and smiles were shared all around, despite the ethnic diversity of passengers onboard. Onboard, it reminded me that kindness is indeed universal and we were all sharing a good flight experience together. Thank you for watching. A Turkish doctor has suffered a heart attack in front of millions of viewers during a popular health show broadcast live on national television. Dr Ugur Yansel, a professor of orthopaedics, was explaining flat feet in children when he had a heart attack during a live telecast of the hugely-popular "Healthy Living" ("Saglikli Yasam") program on the Istanbul-based 360 channel. The doctor, who is in his late 50s, displayed symptoms such as chest pain and discomfort before suffering what appeared to be the first in a series of heart attacks. "Are you feeling well, professor?" asked Arzu Kilic, the elegantly-dressed host of the show, suggesting that he took a sip of water. "It's something to do with my pacemaker," Yansel replied, pointing to his chest. He then took some water and had a more severe heart attack, which made him jump up on the couch. Kilic, who managed to keep her composure throughout the entire show, somehow ended the broadcast with a smile on her face: "It's time to take care of our doctor now, and the commercials." Yansel was moved to the backstage area where he had a third heart attack. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance and is reported to be in a stable condition.
Highlighting once again the above-average number of Caesarean sections performed in the country, Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Müezzionoğlu has warned patient that they do not have the right to demand such operations. “Demanding a natural birth is a natural right of the patient and this is the way it should be,” Müezzinoğlu told a group of reporters in Parliament on Dec. 19. “It is the duty of the midwives and the doctors to prepare them for the birth. The patients cannot say ‘I want a C-section, they do not have such a right.” The government in 2012 moved to regulate abortion and C-section births by making them far more difficult to obtain than before. The government said its policy was designed to encourage families to have more children and prevent doctors from pushing women into unnecessary surgery with potentially serious consequences, although women’s groups excoriated the government for its perceived interference in citizens’ reproduction rights. “The doctors’ job is to fulfill their medical responsibilities, not to follow the patients’ demands,” Müezzinoğlu added. “Doctors must give the medical services that the patients have right to, C-section is not one of those rights.” The health minister said the rate of C-section births was around 15-17 percent, whereas the number is almost 50 percent in Turkey. He said the ministry has started to send letters to the doctors who have high C-section rates and sanctions will be applied in the future to those who do not meet “certain criteria” in such operations.

Mothers should not put any career before motherhood, Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinoğlu has said during a visit to the first baby born in 2015 in Istanbul early on Jan. 1. Müezzinoğlu and Istanbul Gov. Vasip Şahin visited the baby and congratulated her parents at a hospital in Zeytinburnu while also giving advice to mothers. “Mothers have the career of motherhood, which cannot be possessed by anyone else in the world. Mothers should not put another career other than motherhood at the center of their lives. They should put raising good generations at the center of their attention,” Müezzinoğlu said. The minister also urged mothers to have normal deliveries rather than using a C-section, saying medicine should be used for extraordinary situations. “Every mother’s natural structure is created for normal delivery. Normal delivery should be used. Using medicine is for extraordinary situations. We expect doctors to make the best decisions when needed,” he said. Müezzinoğlu also emphasized the importance of breastfeeding. “Nearly 1,150,000 babies are born every year. This is a huge richness for our country,” he added, conveying his good wishes for all babies being born in 2015. Müezzinoğlu also praised the family after learning the new baby, named Meryem Azra, was the couple’s third child. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has consistently exhorted women to have at least three children, while also calling abortion “murder” and railing against Caesarian sections.

Turkey Tourism & Vacations 2015, Turkey Trip 2015, Attractions in Turkey Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye) is on the Mediterranean, with 97% of it's territory in West Asia and the Middle East, and with a small section in Southeastern Europe separated by the Turkish Straits (Bosphorus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles). With the Black Sea to the north and the Aegean Sea in the west and Mediterranean Sea to the southwest, Turkey is surrounded by Bulgaria and Greece to the west, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to the northeast, Syria, Iraq and Iran to the southeast. See in Turkey ================ As a general rule, most museums and sites of ancient cities in Turkey are closed on Mondays, although there are numerous exceptions to this. Ancient ruins and architectural heritage At the crossroads of civilizations, all parts of Turkey are full of a mindblowing number of ancient ruins. Hittites, the first indigenous people that rose to found a state in Anatolia—although there is one certain Çatalhöyük preceding them, the earliest settlement ever found to the date in Turkey—left the proof of their existence at the ruins of Hattuşaş, their capital. Ancient Greeks and closely following Romans left their mark mostly in Aegean and Mediterranean Regions, leaving behind the marble ruins of hundreds of cities, temples, and monuments. Some are largely restored to their former glory, such as Ephesus as well as numerous others along the Aegean coast which are on the checklist of most travellers to Turkey, along with some more obscure ones off the beaten path such as Aphrodisias near Denizli, and Aizonai. In the meantime, some other indigenous peoples, such as Lycians, were carving beautiful tombs—many of which are fairly well preserved and can be seen all around Lycia—for their dearly departed ones onto the rocky hillsides. Legendary Troy stands out as an example of different civilizations literally living on the top of each other. While what is visible today is clearly Hellenistic, the place has its roots as Hittite Wilusa, and later re-built many times over by Ancient Greeks. Perhaps the most unique "architectural" heritage in the country, some of the Cappadocian cave houses and churches carved into "fairy chimneys" and underground cities (in a literal sense!) date back to early Christians hiding from persecution. Successors of Romans, the Byzantines, broke new ground with more ambitious projects, culminating in grand Hagia Sophia of Istanbul, built in 537, and which had the distinction of being the largest cathedral in the world for almost a thousand years. Most of Byzantine heritage intact today is found in Marmara Region, especially in Istanbul, although a stray monastery or two dating back to the era can be found in almost any part of the country. Seljuks, the first ever Turkic state to be founded in Asia Minor, built most of their monuments—which incorporates large majestic portals and heavily delicate stonework, reminiscent of some landmarks in parts of Asia—in major centres of the time in Eastern and Central Anatolia, especially in Konya, their capital. Ottomans, who had considered themselves as a Balkan state until their demise, built most of their landmarks in Balkans and the natural extension of Balkans within today's Turkey—Marmara Region—just like the Byzantines, whom the Ottomans inspired to in so many ways. Most of the earlier Ottoman monuments were built in Bursa, which have little Byzantine and comperatively large Seljuk influences, and later, when the dynasty moved to Europe, in Edirne, some of the major landmarks of which exhibit some kind of "transitional" and fairly experimental style. It wasn't until the Fall of Constantinople that the Ottomans adopted Byzantine architecture almost full scale with some adjustments. However, the Ottoman imperial architecture possibly reached its zenith not in Istanbul, but in Edirne—in the form of Selimiye Mosque, a work of Sinan, the great Ottoman architecture of 16th century. 19th century brought back the Greek and Roman taste of architectural styles, so there was a huge explosion of neo-classical architecture, as much fashionable in Turkey as in the much of the rest of the world at that time. Galata side of Istanbul, Izmir (though unfortunately most of which was lost to the big fire of 1922), and numerous towns along the coasts, one most prominent and well preserved example being Ayvalık, quickly filled with elegant neo-classical buildings.

Just to describe exactly what you are seeing in the video: Armenian youth had chained themselves at one Turkish site (in Paris) in order to protest against them about the genocide and what has been happening in Kessab. The police created a barrier in front of the students and waited for further instructions by their superiors. However, the Turks came (the ones you see screaming at the police officers) and they began to tell them how unfair they (the police) were against them (the Turks). By the end, the Armenian protesters got arrested. Just bear in mind though, they didn't get arrested for protesting, but because they had had vandalized the inside of the building. Either way, one thing was clear, they attracted a great amount of people (including tourists) to make them aware of the struggle of the Armenian people.
The quick depreciation of the Russian ruble against the U.S. dollar might affect Turkish tourism, warned Yusuf Hacısalihoğlu, head of the Association of Mediterranean Tourism and Hoteliers of Turkey (AKTOB), during a conference in the Turkish resort of Antalya on Nov. 28. In the opening speech of the international conference titled “Tourism of Future, Future of Tourism,” Hacısalihoğlu asked the government to take preventive and supportive steps for the 2015 season. The ruble has depreciated by 30 percent against the dollar in 2014, mainly due to U.S. and European Union sanctions because of the crisis with Ukraine; both Russia and Ukraine, of course, are Turkey’s northern neighbors across the Black Sea. The Russian losses reached $40 billion due to the Ukrainian sanctions and $100 billion due to falling oil and gas prices this year, the Russian Finance Ministry stated earlier in November. More than 4.2 million Russian tourists visited Turkey in 2013, coming second only to the 5 million plus Germans who came out of the total of nearly 35 million. “That makes Turkey the sixth most tourist receiving country in the world,” said Osman Ayık, the head of Turkey’s Tourism and Hoteliers Federation (TUROFED), during the conference. “More than 12 million of those tourists were hosted in Antalya alone.” Antalya has actually gained importance for Turkey in the political field as well. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu announced that the government was prepared to host the G-20 Summit in November 2015 there. Menderes Türel, the mayor of the city, underlined the importance of having Expo 2016 in Antalya. Russians are number two in overall guests in Turkey but number one in Antalya at more than 3.3 million. But as Hakan Ateş, the general manager of Denizbank of Turkey, which was bought by Russia’s Sberbank in 2012, pointed out at the conference, Turkey is 10th in tourism revenues, falling behind in the world in terms of the number of tourists. Of Turkey’s nearly $800 billion national income, some $32 billion, or 4 percent, comes from tourism revenues. “It’s like oil for Turkey,” Ateş says. The depreciation of the ruble against the dollar could hit the purchasing power of Russian tourists, Antalya tourism investors worry. When combined with the depreciating image of Turkey in Europe, especially in Germany due to Turkey’s domestic political situation and the atmosphere of war in Syria and Iraq, that worry increases. “Tourism do not like to [hear] words like war,” Hacısalihoğlu said. “Turkey could not even carry out efficient PR to tell the world how important a humanitarian effort it has paid by helping 1.6 million refugees from Syria.” For Peter Frankhauser, the CEO of Thomas Cook, one of leading tourism operators, says that political crises like wars are not the major problem. “We have seen worse,” Frankhauser said. “We can tell our customers that Antalya is 400 miles away from the Syrian border. This is a new world and we have to live with crises. The problem that keeps me awake until morning is to attract the future customer who wants everything in its mobile device in digital form. We have to find a way bridge the old world with the new one.” That ties the issue to changing customer habits and also the purchasing power of future tourists. Russian tourists are likely to be an issue during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit starting today, yet not a major one. There are more strategic issues like having Turkey continue to defy sanctions against Russia and buy Russian gas, while also continuing work on Turkey’s first nuclear power plant project in Akkuyu. For Turkish tourism investors in Antalya, the acute issue is not to lose German but especially Russian tourists. They admit that they have a lot to do like diversifying the content, protecting the environment better and going digital in a transforming world, but they think they deserve more attention from the government. None of them wanted to go on-the-record, but almost all said they would like to have Tourism and Culture Minister Ömer Çelik in the conference to hear their concerns.

Travel video about destination Turkey. Turkey, ‘the land beneath the half moon’. We begin our journey in Istanbul, golden gateway to the Orient, a city that was once the centre of the Old World and still reflects two and a half centuries of history. On the opposite side of the Galata Bridge on the banks of the Golden Horn is the Yeni Cami Mosque with a large number of domes and minarets built one on top of the other plus a number of precious glass windows. The Grand Basare is a city within a city. Through a large gate there is a labyrinth of corridors that were built over many centuries. The enclosed market contains more than four thousand shops within its seemingly endless halls and it is possible to buy almost anything here. A vivid world full of the aromas of the orient. Near to the west coast of Turkey situated between Troy and Ephesos is one of the most famous and well preserved ancient cities of this region, Pergamon. This, in the Hellenic era, was an ancient cosmopolitan city the traces of which are still visible today. Marmaris is situated on the Turkish Riviera and was once well protected by a mediaeval fortress. In 1522 Sultan Süleyman The Splendid enlarged the small castle of the former Roman rulers as he wished to conquer the island of Rhodes. Ankara is the capital of the Republic of Turkey and this once Anatolian provincial backwater is today one of the country’s most modern cities and is a vibrant world metropolis. The biggest mosque in Turkey is the Kocatepe Camii which is both a symbol of the devoutness of the Turkish people as well as being an important centre of communication for the entire city. Turkey is a country of many faces, with fairytale-like mosques and palaces, legendary ancient cities and fascinating landscapes. It is a link between Asia and Europe, between East and West and an historic bridge between both Orient and Occident.

The crisis in Europe may create opportunities for the Turkish tourism businesses if airlines reflect the fall in oil prices on their ticket fees, according to Başaran Ulusoy, the head of the country’s leading tourism organization. “The crisis in Russia poses opportunities for us,” said Ulusoy, head of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), while speaking at a sector event organized by daily Hürriyet on Dec. 22. “Let the airline companies support us and reflect the falling oil prices on ticket,” he said. Turkey’s tourism sector, which employs around 800,000, attracts large numbers of Russian tourists every year, but the recent depreciation of the ruble remains a major concern for next year, as the citizens of the northern neighbor may cut spending. “Developing ties with Russia is very important for us,” he said. “And our strongest hand in the issue is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,” he added, referring to good relations between the Turkish leader and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. The tourism sector is precious for Turkey, said Vuslat Doğan Sabancı, the chairwoman of Hürriyet, in her addressing at the event, “The tourism sector grew tenfold in the last decade,” she said. “Besides its economic input, the socio-cultural contributions are very important. Tourism means civilization, development and peace.” The event gathered representatives of some 90 percent of the sector, she noted, highlighting the Hürriyet supplements and publications that support the sector. Turkey has gone beyond limited sun-and-sea tourism, said Culture and Tourism Ministry Undersecretary Professor Haluk Dursun. “We should add culture tourism to this,” he said. Daily Hürriyet is among the actors in the tourism sector, Editor-in-Chief Sedat Ergin said. “We are very pleased to see that our contributions to tourism are appreciated by the sector,” he added.
Check Our Website : http://www.travels1001nights.com Istanbul (Turkish: İstanbul) is the largest city in Turkey, constituting the country's economic, cultural, and historical heart. With a population of 14.1 million, the city forms one of the largest urban agglomerations in Europe[d], second largest in the Middle East and the fifth-largest city in the world by population within city limits. Istanbul's vast area of 5,343 square kilometers (2,063 sq mi) is coterminous with Istanbul Province, of which the city is the administrative capital.[c] Istanbul is a transcontinental city, straddling the Bosphorus—one of the world's busiest waterways—in northwestern Turkey, between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. Its commercial and historical center lies in Europe, while a third of its population lives in Asia. Founded on the Sarayburnu promontory around 660 BC as Byzantium, the city now known as Istanbul developed to become one of the most significant cities in history. For nearly sixteen centuries following its reestablishment as Constantinople in 330 AD, it served as the capital of four empires: the Roman Empire (330--395), the Byzantine Empire (395--1204 and 1261--1453), the Latin Empire (1204--1261), and the Ottoman Empire (1453--1922).[5] It was instrumental in the advancement of Christianity during Roman and Byzantine times, before the Ottomans conquered the city in 1453 and transformed it into an Islamic stronghold and the seat of the last caliphate.[6] Although the Republic of Turkey established its capital in Ankara, palaces and imperial mosques still line Istanbul's hills as visible reminders of the city's previous central role. Istanbul's strategic position along the historic Silk Road,[7] rail networks to Europe and the Middle East, and the only sea route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean have helped foster an eclectic populace, although less so since the establishment of the Republic in 1923. Overlooked for the new capital during the interwar period, the city has since regained much of its prominence. The population of the city has increased tenfold since the 1950s, as migrants from across Anatolia have flocked to the metropolis and city limits have expanded to accommodate them.[8][9] Arts festivals were established at the end of the 20th century, while infrastructure improvements have produced a complex transportation network. Approximately 11.6 million foreign visitors arrived in Istanbul in 2012, two years after it was named a European Capital of Culture, making the city the world's fifth-most-popular tourist destination.[10] The city's biggest draw remains its historic center, partially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but its cultural and entertainment hub can be found across the city's natural harbor, the Golden Horn, in the Beyoğlu district. Considered a global city,[11] Istanbul is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan economies in the world.[12] It hosts the headquarters of many Turkish companies and media outlets and accounts for more than a quarter of the country's gross domestic product.[13] Hoping to capitalize on its revitalization and rapid expansion, Istanbul bid for the Summer Olympics five times in twenty years.[14] Extra Tags: Istanbul travel guide travel to Istanbul Istanbul tourism travel Istanbul Istanbul travel tips Istanbul travel card Istanbul tours Istanbul travel packages Istanbul travel information what to do in Istanbul Istanbul guide Istanbul info places to visit in Istanbul ferry to Istanbul Istanbul tourist attractions Istanbul travel deals traveling to Istanbul guide Istanbul Istanbul tourist guide Istanbul attractions travel in Istanbul Istanbul tour Istanbul the netherlands travelling to Istanbul visiting Istanbul cheap travel to Istanbul Istanbul tour guide i Istanbul things to do in Istanbul Istanbul what to do lonely planet Istanbul Istanbul lonely planet Istanbul gay travel travel guide Istanbul things to do Istanbul things to see in Istanbul tours Istanbul tourism Istanbul Istanbul visit Istanbul places to visit tour Istanbul tourist information Istanbul Istanbul ferry tours in Istanbul Istanbul tourism guide info Istanbul what to see in Istanbul Istanbul sightseeing travel hotel Istanbul Istanbul city tour Istanbul city tours guide to Istanbul ferries to Istanbul Istanbul city Istanbul holland Istanbul travel info Istanbul city centre Istanbul tourist information Istanbul city guide

Take a tour of Cotton Castle in Turkey -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. The carbonate mineral deposits have formed the pristine white Pamukkale in southern Turkey. Pamukkale is Turkish for cotton castle, even though it is made up of travertine limestone run-off from the area's hot springs. This slow moving rock formation creates dazzling stalactites and terraces The natural hot springs have drawn tourists to this site for thousands of years. This site is the former home of Hierapolis, a Roman Bath town. The waters here are said to be good for the skin and eyes, and can be a remedy for asthma as well. Shoes must be worn in the hot springs, to protect the deposits of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

İstanbul Türkiye / Turkey HD 720p İstanbul The capital of empires... The city that dominated continents... The cradle of civilisation... The meeting point of cultures and civilisations... These are some of the thousands of phrases that describe İstanbul. Yet neither words nor any amount of reading or listening are sufficient to truly describe and become familiar with the city. Only when you walk along its historic streets, when you see with your own eyes the architectural masterpieces of Byzantine and Ottoman Empires in their original setting, when you enjoy the panoramic vistas of its unique location, and when you start to explore its mystical beauties -- only then will you begin to discover, and to fall in love with İstanbul.İstanbul is the most developed and largest city of Turkey, and the latest discoveries indicate that the history of human habitation goes back 400,000 years ago. The Megarians settled and founded the city of Byzantium that later lent its name to the Byzantine Empire. However, the first settlers in the region established their city Chalcedon (Kadıköy), on 'the land of blind people' which was strategically less important. And the Megarians, led by an Oracle, became aware of the beauty of Seraglio Point (Sarayburnu), and they established their city there on the opposite side of the Chalcedon. Today the historical peninsula is the most beautiful part of İstanbul, and is strategically well placed. The city is surrounded by a seascape peppered with distant islands, and this, together with the Golden Horn (Haliç), the estuary that thrusts into the land along the peninsula, make İstanbul a unique place -- and, throughout its long history, a city that many desired to conquer. But the desire to possess the city cannot be explained only by its strategic position or unsurpassed beauty; it has a different attraction, a mystical magnetism that drew states, empires and great conquerors towards it. This attraction led to a long history of conflict, conquest and occupation between those determined to maintain their hold on the city and those who strove to capture it. For more than 1,500 years İstanbul was the capital of two empires, first the Byzantine and later the Ottoman. It was beautified accordingly with magnificent monuments and became a metropolis where diverse cultures, nations and religions mingle. Those cultures, nations and religions are the small pieces that form the mosaic of İstanbul. Perhaps some of those little pieces do not mean much to you, but as an ensemble they make up the unique majesty of İstanbul.

Set in an idyllic fishing village, with a back drop of natural pine forest mountains, only 20 minutes drive from the popular tourist destination of Altinkum and only 45 minutes drive from Bodrum airport, Akbuk is the perfect location to purchase a holiday home or investment property. In 1991, Akbuk separated from Altinkum and Didim to become a "Fevzi Pasa" or township in its own right and has grown steadily ever since. Set in an idyllic fishing village, with a back drop of natural pine forest mountains but with the benefits of activities such as snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean sea, wind surfing, fishing, horse riding, jeep safari or just sunbathing on one of Akbuk’s beautiful blue flag sandy beaches, this up and coming resort has something for everyone. The centre point of Akbuk Bay is the Harbour, with its long pedestrian promenade, where you can take a relaxing walk stopping off for a meal and enjoy the ambience of the traditional Turkish relaxed atmosphere and watch the beautiful sunset across the bay. There are wide varieties of shops; with a market every Friday located next to the main Akbuk bus station, restaurants and bars within the town itself but those wanting to experience the bustling tourist area of Altinkum will find it is only a short 20 minutes drive away. Steeped in history, the Apollo Temple and the Roman city of Ephesus are within easy reach, you will also find the breathtaking Bafa Lake within the locality of this up and coming resort. Once a small fishing village, Akbuk remains decidedly traditional in feel and is largely unspoilt by tourism. It is now rapidly becoming a popular tourist resort with visitor figures rising year on year meaning great future rental prospects For those who are health conscious Akbuk is also reported to have the highest oxygen ratio and the lowest humidity in Turkey making the climate pleasant with a refreshing breeze even during the long hot summer months! There is a building restriction that states only bungalows or two storey properties can be built in the area so you are never going to get those high rises obstructing your view making it a desirable location on the coast. We are expecting that this area will increase significantly in value in the coming years and end up one of the most affluent areas along the Aegean coast in the not too distant future ################################# Please visit http://OverseasPropertyMap.com for more property ads. Obama avoids the word 'genocide' to not hurt relations with powerful NATO ally Turkey.
GREECE vs TURKEY, Military Power Comparison 2015 Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), in 2010 the Turkish Armed Forces had an active strength of around 510,000 personnel. In addition, it was estimated that there were 378,700 reserve personnel and 152,200 paramilitary personnel (Turkish Gendarmerie and Turkish Coast Guard), giving a combined active and reserve strength of around 1,041,900 personnel. In 2010, the defence budget amounted to 26 billion liras. The Law on the Court of Accounts was supposed to initiate external ex-post audits of armed forces' expenditure and pave the way for audits of extra budgetary resources earmarked for the defence sector, including the Defence Industry Support Fund. However, the Ministry of Defense has not provided the necessary information, so the armed forces expenditure is not being properly checked. In 1998, Turkey announced a programme of modernisation worth US$160 billion over a twenty-year period in various projects including tanks, fighter jets, helicopters, submarines, warships and assault rifles. Turkey is a Level 3 contributor to the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme. The final goal of Turkey is to produce new-generation indigenous military equipment and to become increasingly self-sufficient in terms of military technologies. Havelsan of Turkey and Boeing of the United States are in the process of developing a next-generation, high-altitude ballistic missile defence shield. Turkey has chosen the Chinese defense firm CPMIEC to co-produce a $4 billion long-range air and missile system. Military of Greece Greece currently has universal compulsory military service for males, under which all men above 18 years of age serve for 9 months. Women may serve in the Greek military, but cannot be conscripted. According to NATO, in 2008, Greece spent 2.8 percent of G.D.P. on its military, or about €6.9 billion, or around $9.3 billion. Greece is the largest importer of conventional weapon in Europe and its military spending is the highest in the European Union (relative to G.D.P). Greece is an EU and NATO member country and participates in peacekeeping operations such as ISAF in Afghanistan, EUFOR in Bosnia and Chad, and KFOR in Kosovo. Big News Network 2015-04-09Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), known officially as the Republic of Turkey ( Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (help·info)), is a Eurasian country located in Western Asia (mostly in the Anatolian peninsula) and in East Thrace in Southeastern Europe. Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west; Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan (the exclave of Nakhchivan) and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast. The Mediterranean Sea and Cyprus are to the south; the Aegean Sea is to the west; and the Black Sea is to the north. The Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles (which together form the Turkish Straits) demarcate the boundary between East Thrace and Anatolia; they also separate Europe and Asia.
Turkey is one of the six independent Turkic states. The vast majority of the population are Muslims. The country's official language is Turkish, whereas Kurdish and Zazaki languages are spoken by Kurds and Zazas, who constitute 18% of the population.
