Abu Yusuf Yaʻqūb ibn Isḥāq al-Sabbah al-Kindī (Arabic: ابو يوسف يعقوب بن اسحاق الصبّاح الكندي, Latin: Alkindus) (c. 801–873 CE), known as "the Philosopher of the Arabs", was a Muslim Arab philosopher, mathematician, physician, and musician. Al-Kindi was the first of the Muslim peripatetic philosophers, and is unanimously hailed as the "father of Islamic or Arabic philosophy" for his synthesis, adaptation and promotion of Greek and Hellenistic philosophy in the Muslim world.
Al-Kindi was a descendant of the Kinda tribe. He was born and educated in Kufa, before going to pursue further studies in Baghdad. Al-Kindi became a prominent figure in the House of Wisdom, and a number of Abbasid Caliphs appointed him to oversee the translation of Greek scientific and philosophical texts into the Arabic language. This contact with "the philosophy of the ancients" (as Greek philosophy was often referred to by Muslim scholars) had a profound effect on his intellectual development, and lead him to write hundreds of original treatises of his own on a range of subjects ranging from metaphysics, ethics, logic and psychology, to medicine, pharmacology,mathematics, astronomy, astrology and optics, and further afield to more practical topics like perfumes, swords, jewels, glass, dyes, zoology, tides, mirrors, meteorology and earthquakes.

Ce concert met en parallèle deux traditions mystiques dont le dénominateur commun est non seulement le personnage emblématique de la Vierge, mais est aussi la parenthèse historique, géographique et stylistique du langage modal savant oriental: l'Echo, la tradition grecque byzantine monodique d'Orient et le Maqâm, la tradition savante arabe.
Dans les premiers siècles la liturgie byzantine s'est tout d'abord élaborée à Antioche, ville qui faisait partie du Sham et incluait l'actuelle Syrie, le Liban et la Palestine. L'école d'Antioche était doublement marquée par ces apports gréco-romain mais surtout sémitique et mésopotamien.
L'art vocal byzantin s'est considérablement développé à Constantinople du temps de l'empire chrétien mais plus encore au 18ème siècle lors de l'apogée de l'empire Ottoman où sa similitude esthétique avec le "fesil" (suite profane de musique de Cour) et la liturgie du rituel des derviches Mevlevi est manifeste.
Hamza Shakour est actuellement le plus grand chantre officiel de Syrie, il dirige la chorale des munshiddins de la grande Mosquée de Damas lors des fêtes religieuses. Bâtie sur les fondations d'une cathédrale byzantine, elle fut la première grande mosquée de la dynastie des Omeyyades.
Disciple du grand hymnode Lycourgos Angelopoulos, Kostantinos Angelidis, fondateur du Choeur Byzantin Tropos, également chercheur et enseignant reconnu dans le domaine du chant byzantin, officie en tant que Protopsaltes -- premier cantor-- de l'Eglise de St Eustathius d'Athènes.
Dés le 9ème siècle, la musique arabo-musulmane a considérablement développé sa théorie musicale à partir des procédés de partage arithmétique de la quarte, hérités des philosophes de la Grèce Antique et adaptés aux exigences d'un art, héritier lui même de la musique de cour perse de l'empire Sassanide. La tradition damascène est restée, malgré son intégration dans l'Empire Ottoman, fidèle à une esthétique Arabo-moyen orientale du fait de sa centralité symbolique sur le plan de l'Islam, en particulier sur le plan de l'intonation des maqamat-s.
Maqams similaires, le diatonique doux Exo Protos, connu sous le nom de Bayati Husayni, la somptueuse tradition arabe de la qaçida et du muwashah diniye en Syrie, vont alterner avec la riche hymnographie de l'Église Orthodoxe et les "kratimas", ces formes savantes byzantines traditionnellement interprétées à capella en l'honneur de "La Très Sainte Mère de Dieux".
C'est cette nouvelle expérience musicale, d'un rare raffinement, que propose cette dernière création de Julien Jalledine Weiss et son Ensemble Al Kindi, qui explore depuis plus de vingt ans le vaste territoire de la musique arabe et orientale.

Kostantinos Angelidis) Création : "Stabat Mater Dolorosa", Hommage chrétien et musulman à Marie Direction : Julien Jallaledine Weiss Direction Choeur Byzantin Tropos d'Athène : Kostantinos Angelidis ########################## Peu d'occidentaux ont connaissance de l'estime que l'Islam, avec ses propres critères, et plus particulièrement le Soufisme, portent à Marie et au Christ. Ce concert met en parallèle deux traditions mystiques dont le dénominateur commun est non seulement le personnage emblématique de la Vierge, mais est aussi la parenthèse historique, géographique et stylistique du langage modal savant oriental: l'Echo, la tradition grecque byzantine monodique d'Orient et le Maqâm, la tradition savante arabe. Dans les premiers siècles la liturgie byzantine s'est tout d'abord élaborée à Antioche, ville qui faisait partie du Sham et incluait l'actuelle Syrie, le Liban et la Palestine. L'école d'Antioche était doublement marquée par ces apports gréco-romain mais surtout sémitique et mésopotamien. L'art vocal byzantin s'est considérablement développé à Constantinople du temps de l'empire chrétien mais plus encore au 18ème siècle lors de l'apogée de l'empire Ottoman où sa similitude esthétique avec le "fesil" (suite profane de musique de Cour) et la liturgie du rituel des derviches Mevlevi est manifeste. Hamza Shakour est actuellement le plus grand chantre officiel de Syrie, il dirige la chorale des munshiddins de la grande Mosquée de Damas lors des fêtes religieuses. Bâtie sur les fondations d'une cathédrale byzantine, elle fut la première grande mosquée de la dynastie des Omeyyades. Disciple du grand hymnode Lycourgos Angelopoulos, Kostantinos Angelidis, fondateur du Choeur Byzantin Tropos, également chercheur et enseignant reconnu dans le domaine du chant byzantin, officie en tant que Protopsaltes -- premier cantor-- de l'Eglise de St Eustathius d'Athènes. Dés le 9ème siècle, la musique arabo-musulmane a considérablement développé sa théorie musicale à partir des procédés de partage arithmétique de la quarte, hérités des philosophes de la Grèce Antique et adaptés aux exigences d'un art, héritier lui même de la musique de cour perse de l'empire Sassanide. La tradition damascène est restée, malgré son intégration dans l'Empire Ottoman, fidèle à une esthétique Arabo-moyen orientale du fait de sa centralité symbolique sur le plan de l'Islam, en particulier sur le plan de l'intonation des maqamat-s. Maqams similaires, le diatonique doux Exo Protos, connu sous le nom de Bayati Husayni, la somptueuse tradition arabe de la qaçida et du muwashah diniye en Syrie, vont alterner avec la riche hymnographie de l'Église Orthodoxe et les "kratimas", ces formes savantes byzantines traditionnellement interprétées à capella en l'honneur de "La Très Sainte Mère de Dieux". C'est cette nouvelle expérience musicale, d'un rare raffinement, que propose cette dernière création de Julien Jalledine Weiss et son Ensemble Al Kindi, qui explore depuis plus de vingt ans le vaste territoire de la musique arabe et orientale.- published: 24 Jan 2011
