Thank you for an enjoyable 3 night stay that allowed us to travel from interstate to help celebrate our friend's wedding! The daily deck-side visit from the horses was a real highlight (especially for our girls) and your email prior to our arrival meant that we were not only expectant of their arrival, but also well armed with their favourite snacks!! The complimentary bottle of locally produced wine was an unexpected surprise, as was the little frog that shared the bathroom for the duration of our stay. The quality of the bedding was excellent, and your provision of a porta-cot very much appreciated. All in all, a very relaxing destination surrounded by beautiful countryside. Thank you!!

My boyfriend and I had an absolutely amazing break away for two nights. There was absolutely everything you could want- tennis, a pool, private jacuzzi, bush walks and amazing scenery. We stayed in the Cedar cabin and found it to be fantastic. It had a fantastic view!

Hunter River Retreat is one of the best kept secrets in the Hunter Valley region. Barbara and Ted, the owners, go out of their way to assist you from the first point of contact, continuing this level of service and hospitality through until you leave. The two cottages our family stayed in for a two days period, were perfect for our needs, and provided a charming combination of old world meets contemporary. Attention to detail was at a premium, complete with the welcome addition at breakfast time each day, of the farm horses - a truly wonderful an unexpected extra for all of aus.We would have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending this property, and its wonderful hosts to anyone wishing to leave the frenetic pace of the city behind, and instead, to take in all the Hunter Valley has to offer, using this delightful property as your base,

I want to say thanks to Ted and Barbara because my mum and sister's family who came from China were so enjoying the time at Hunter River Retreat. They said there just like paradise. Everything is so exceed our expectation: lodge is neat and just ready for us to live in; swimming pool and spa occupied us so much time and no one wanted to get out; wildlife is awesome too. I'd like strongly recommend to anyone who is interested in Australia bush life. Thanks for Ted show us that nice chocolate shop and we bought quite a lot and my sister has already brought them back to China as gift. We celebrated our Chinese New Year eve at the retreat and I think everyone will remember that moment forever.Last thing I have to mention is Barbara's professional attitude toward her customers. I booked our holidy initially on 28/1/2013, but because of heavy raining during those days Barbara suggested me to cancel the holiday or change the date because she knew I was not quite confident in driving on the muddy courtry road. She even didn't charge any cancellation fee. I just want to say thanks again to Barbara and Ted. We definitely will come back your retreat again.

We would love to thank Ted and Barbara for their warm yet non intrusive welcome for our weekend away. We brought along a few friends visiting from Japan and Korea driving in on a Friday night from Sydney. Needless to say we arrived very late but our lodge was waiting for us with the light on. As soon as we entered we were greeted with a bottle of wine on the table with a hand written note which was a lovely touch. The lodge was clean and homely, the kitchen was massive and had great crockery and utensils. The horses on the property were darlings and very friendly. The white one trotted up to us for a pat when we went out for a walk! Our wine tour arrived on time and waited at the doorstep for us. Thank you again for a wonderful weekend and I would not hesitate to recommend this place to friends looking for a quiet retreat or for a small get together with intimate friends.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hunter River Retreat (Ironbark lodge). Accommodation was perfect for our group of 2 young families. The (gated) pool is perfectly positioned in front of the house and was lovely having a dip to cool down at the end of the day. The spa was lovely and relaxing and the views from the deck were beautiful. Highly recommend!

We hired out 3 cottages for a group of friends. Facilities are fantastic, everything you need; with a pool and tennis court. Open fire BBQ, beds were comfortable, ceiling fans if too hot, Jacuzzi on the deck if it gets cold. Great place, would recommend to anyone!

We had a fantastic weekend staying at the Hunter river retreat. The Ironbark lodge accomodated for 10 of us comfortably and was seculded enough so that we could do our own thing. The Spa was HOT,Tennis court very fun, the kitchen was great to cook in and the outdoor dining on the deck was amazing. I will definitely stay there again. Thanks Ted and Barbara

Absolutely wonderful - From the outset Ted and Barbara are quick to respond to inquiries and have continued to be helpful even after my stay.
The property really is special with wild horses roaming the grounds and a fantastic jacuzzi on the deck. The wine tour Barbara booked for us showed us Hunter Valley veterans some new wineries and was very well priced for the whole day trip.
An original and unique Hunter Valley stay which we will definitely return to - thanks for a great weekend.

Without a doubt the best property that I have stayed at in the Hunter valley. Therese, the manager could not have been more helpful, and helped us out with many things including basic barbeque operations!!
The house and views were amazing as was the pool, the spa and the tennis courts. It was extremely well equipped and surprisingly, people weren't even interested in the wineries as they were enjoying themselves so much in the house. The late night visiting horses were an added bonus. We will definitely be back and it comes highly recommended.

My fiance Trevor & I enjoyed our 'mid-week getaway' immensely thanks to the courteous & relaxed atmosphere of the retreat. The jacuzzi was our favourite part of the experience-it was so hard prying ourselves away from it to play a friendly game of tennis on the full-size court or get whisked away for wine-tastings. We'll be back with friends next time!
