It's a favourite day trip destination for many, but even a few hours in the big city can cost a fortune. Yes, I'm looking to the Capital, peering into my wallet and wondering how a family day out could be so darn expensive. After many years of commuting in and out of London for work, we've gotten adept at pairing it with family mini-breaks to see a show, visit family or just enjoy the attractions that London has to offer. Sadly, even if you plan everything to a tee, it can still end up costing a fortune, so today, I'm going to share with you a really quick list of our favourite things to do with the children in London that are free or almost free to enjoy. And first on that list it has to be Parks. If you're in London for a particular event and need to kill some time and let the kids burn off some energy, then you could do a lot worse than to head to one of London's many beautiful, spacious parks. From Hyde Park to Regent's Park, Kensington Gardens to St James Park, there's no shortage of wide-open spaces right smack bang in an otherwise busy City. And when we fancy a bit of culture to while away the hours, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to galleries. While some specialist exhibitions within the Tate might require a fee to enter, the majority of the work is on show free of charge, and the kids can have a wonderful time soaking up the art and starting to think about what it might mean. Equally, London is packed with educational opportunities in the form of museums, many elements of which are designed specifically to cater for children. Among those that are free to enter are the Imperial War Museum London, British Postal Museum, Natural History Museum and the V&A; Museum of Childhood -- all packed with enough to fill a whole afternoon. While other museums such as the London Transport Museum do cost to enter, often one ticket buys you an annual pass, so after that it's a cost free place to visit time and time again with plenty of interactive challenges and exhibits for the kids to enjoy. And finally, an idea you might not think of when visiting the Capital, but if you're City-based and want something fun to do that doesn't involve breathing in traffic fumes, you could visit one of Greater London's many Urban Farms. There are urban farms in Hackney, Spitalfields, Kentish Town and Vauxhall to name but a few and all are free to enter and allow children to pet and feed the animals. A lovely way to spend an afternoon and a great educational experience for those more used to City living. That's it for now.
