Kenrick died in a hail of bullets fired by the country’s security forces, the police and army. ‘The soldier used his foot on his throat and fired shots into his stomach and his head.’ Rico, who was hiding at the time of the murder, believes the police had no reason to shoot. ‘They had no need to hurt the youths. They'd just come out to kill somebody.’ Every other day in Kingston the police kill someone. ‘That is how the police operate,’ states Dr Caroline Gomes, director of Jamaicans for Justice, ‘the police are involved in murder for higher corruption - selling guns, drug running.’ Deputy Commissioner Mark Shields says it’s a constant battle between good and bad: ‘the bad cops…undermine everything that the rest of us are trying to do.’ SBS DAteline - Ref 4381

JUSTICE SOUND BOOKING 904 444 9444JUSTICE SOUND BOOKING 904 444 9444 Jamaica is an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea, comprising the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles. The island, 10,990 square kilometres (4,240 sq mi) in area, lies about 145 kilometres (90 mi) south of Cuba, and 191 kilometres (119 mi) west of Hispaniola, the island containing the nation-states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Jamaica is the fifth-largest island country in the Caribbean.[5] Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago, in 1655 it came under the rule of England (later Great Britain), and was called Jamaica. It achieved full independence from the United Kingdom on 6 August 1962.[6] With 2.8 million people, it is the third most populous Anglophone country in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. Kingston is the country's largest city and its capital, with a population of 937,700.[7][8] Jamaica has a large diaspora around the world, due to emigration from the country.[9] Jamaica is a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as its monarch and head of state. Her appointed representative in the country is the Governor-General of Jamaica, currently Patrick Allen. The head of government and Prime Minister of Jamaica is Portia Simpson-Miller. Jamaica is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy with legislative power vested in the bicameral Parliament of Jamaica, consisting of an appointed Senate and a directly elected House of RepresentativesThe Arawak and Taino indigenous people, originating in South America, settled on the island between 4000 and 1000 BC.[17] When Christopher Columbus arrived in 1494, there were more than 200 villages ruled by caciques (chiefs of villages). The south coast of Jamaica was the most populated, especially around the area now known as Old Harbour.[17] The Taino still inhabited Jamaica when the English took control of the island in 1655.[17] The Jamaican National Heritage Trust is attempting to locate and document any evidence of the Taino/Arawaks.[18] Spanish rule Christopher Columbus claimed Jamaica for Spain after landing there in 1494. His probable landing point was Dry Harbour, now called Discovery Bay.,[19] although there is some debate that it might have been St. Ann's Bay[citation needed]. St. Ann's Bay was named "Saint Gloria" by Columbus, as the first sighting of the land. One mile west of St. Ann's Bay is the site of the first Spanish settlement on the island, Sevilla, which was established in 1509 and abandoned around 1524 because it was deemed unhealthy.[20] The capital was moved to Spanish Town, then called St. Jago de la Vega, around 1534 (at present-day St. Catherine).[21] British rule Spanish Town has the oldest cathedral of the British colonies in the Caribbean.[21] The Spanish were forcibly evicted by the English at Ocho Rios in St. Ann. In 1655 the English, led by Sir William Penn and General Robert Venables, took over the last Spanish fort in Jamaica.[22] The name of Montego Bay, the capital of the parish of St. James, was derived from the Spanish name manteca bahía (or Bay of Lard), alluding to the lard-making industry based on processing the numerous boars in the area.[23] Henry Morgan was a famous Caribbean pirate and privateer; he had first come to the West Indies as an indentured servant, like most of the early English colonists.[24] In 1660, the population of Jamaica was about 4,500 white and 1,500 black,[25] but by as early as the 1670s, black people formed a majority of the population.[26] In 1394, France prohibited Jews as residents of their country. By 1660, Jamaica had become a refuge for Jews in the New World, also attracting those who had been expelled from Spain and Portugal. A settlement of Jews had arrived in 1510, soon after the son of Christopher Columbus settled on the island. Primarily merchants and traders, the Jewish community was forced to live a clandestine life, calling themselves "Portugals". After the British took over rule of Jamaica, the Jews decided the best defense against Spain's regaining control was to encourage making the colony a base for Caribbean pirates. With the pirates installed in Port Royal, the Spanish would be deterred from attacking. The British leaders agreed with the viability of this strategy to forestall outside aggression.[27] When the English captured Jamaica in 1655, the Spanish colonists fled after freeing their slaves.[22] The slaves dispersed into the mountains, joining the maroons, those who had previously escaped from the Spanish to live with the Taínos.[28] The Jamaican Maroons fought the British during the 18th century.[28] The name is still used today for their modern descendants. During the centuries of slavery, Maroons established free communities in the mountainous interior of Jamaica, where they maintained their freedom and independence for generations.

"Jamaica's Cabinet has approved a much-anticipated bill of drug law amendments that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of pot and pave the way for a legal medical marijuana industry on the Caribbean island, the justice minister said Wednesday. Following the Cabinet's authorization, Justice Minister Mark Golding said he expects to introduce the legislation in the Senate by the end of this week. Debate could start before the end of the month in the pot-steeped country where the drug, known popularly as "ganja," has long been culturally entrenched but illegal. Golding said the bill would establish a "cannabis licensing authority" to deal with the various regulations needed to cultivate, sell and distribute marijuana for medical, scientific and therapeutic purposes." The renowned Jamaican scientist Dr. Henry Lowe, a leader in THC studies for medical purposes, is running the company with the University of West Indies and the University of Technology jointly funding the facility. In addition to studying the scientific benefits of marijuana, Dr. Lowe says the company will produce CBD-based medical products, which fall under legally accepted medicinal use of the ganja plant. Lowe says the plant extract can be used to treat psychosis and severe pain, as well as mid-life crises in men. Please Subscribe to keep us going! Official Site: http://www.strainhunters.com http://www.greenhouseseeds.nl Facebook http://facebook.com/greenhouseseeds & http://facebook.com/strainhunters.official Here we go again! We board a flight from Amsterdam and in 9 hours we are in the Caribbean. After a layover of just a couple of hours on Curacao, we fly on to Jamaica. We land in Kingston around 11 am local time. The air is hot, but not too humid. We have a 3 hours layover, so we decide to get out of the airport and go have lunch in Port Royal, half an hour away on the coast. It's a bit of a ghost-town, once a very rich merchant harbor, destroyed at the end of the seventeenth century by a powerful earthquake. It looks like it never really recovered… We eat lunch in a small fish-restaurant, famous for its snapper. But I eat jerk chicken because I am picky with my fish, and the jerk-spices here are amazing! Of course we drink some Red Stripe beers, and Simon and myself decide it's time to find some weed. It does not take long before we hit the jackpot: literally on the side of the local Police station, along the seaside, there are some barracks and shacks; inside a group of Rastas is busy cleaning and chopping weed and rolling it up in small balls, using rolling papers as containers. We ask if we can buy some, and the guys are thrilled. It's cheap, less than 1 Euro per gram. But it's a bit bitter, very leafy, and we enjoy it just because it's been a while since we smoked in Amsterdam! Some of the Rastas in the back are smoking crack cocaine in a glass pipe, the smell is terribly sour. They ask if we like some, and we politely tell them we are just here for the ganja; they nod, and scream "Jah Rastafari"! We sit and smoke a joint with them, and chat a bit about the local weed, and the cops. It's incredible that this is all happening next to the Police station. We leave as soon as the joint is over, and we go back to the restaurant to join the rest of the crew. It's time to get back to the airport and catch a Jamaican Airlines flight to Montego Bay, where our local contacts are waiting. The flight is really short, under half hour, and we arrive in MoBay before sunset. Bigga, Shanti, Nampo and Taleban are waiting for us and it's great to see them again; Arjan and myself spent some crazy days with these guys not long ago, during our scouting trips on the island. These guys are a tight crew, and they are going to take care of us during the next days of this filming trip. Nampo is a older Rasta, wise man, with lots of contacts and very respected. Taleban, his friend, is a grower and a smuggler, a real pirate and one of the funniest guys we ever had with us during our expeditions. Bigga is our driver/bodyguard, he's a man of the road and he knows who and what you need to know to keep us safe. Shanti is a local singer, a reggae artist with an amazing talent and a great personality. I know him since he was 10 years old, back in 1994, when I spent a few weeks near where he lived with his father (the man supplying me with fine herb at the time). It was really special to find Shanti during our scouting trips back in July, he's now a grown up man… and I am getting old! Shanti will come along and make sure the soundtrack of our travels is inspiring and inspired. We get the cars, two Toyota Fortuner, and we load up the mountain of gear we are carrying. Then we drive down to Negril in the sunset light, and when we arrive it's already dark. We decide to spend the first night at the Blue Cave Castle, a really cozy place on the rocky cliffs of Negril. It's another true 1994-flashback for me, this is one of the places where I stayed when I was a 20-years-old ganja-traveler, already a Strain Hunter without knowing it…. Of course to make the flashback even more intense the same room where I slept then is available, so I take it. It still looks the same. We are tired from the long travel, and we decide to go for some food. Unfortunately the chef is sick, so we decide to find something not too far away. We hit a jerk-chicken stand by the side of the road and we eat like there's no tomorrow. After a few Red Stripes and a few joints we go back to the hotel, where we smoke some good amount of high-grade weed, and some "gum", the local finger-hash. The weed is definitely an indica-cross, it tastes sweet and strong, and they say it's from a site not too far from where we are. We make a plan for tomorrow, and we go to sleep. Jamaica is great. It's a true privilege to be here again. Jah Bless! And now we are back with MisterX pics, the man is a true artist..... enjoy! In the global market place, the term: “ Brand Jamaica” now carries a distinct image of a unique culture, iconic music and dance, exotic cuisine, art and craft rooted in the island’s rich heritage, plus a delight local language. Tourism in the Caribbean is a major component of the regions economy. Many of the island nations governments invest heavily in attracting tourists to their beaches, resorts and attractions, more so than some invest in the infrastructure of their countries. Extensively large all-inclusive hotels are built by foreign investors and the governments welcome new carriers opening new routes of travel to their islands. According to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), the Caribbean Basin is the most tourist-dependent region in the world. The region's tourism dollars exceed gross exports by about a third of total receipts, and about a million workers are employed in the tourism industry. Many factors influence tourism in the Caribbean Basin Statistics from the CTO lists Jamaica as one of the few countries in the Caribbean that experienced an overall increase of 3.6% in visitors, along with Guyana, Cuba, Curacao and the Dominican Republic. On our most recent visit to Jamaica, we took a look on what effect has on vendors in the Northern coastal town of Ocho Rios. THIS ENTIRE SHOW IS A LOOK AT TOURISM AND WHETHER OR NOT IT HAS ANY SIGNIFICANT TRICKE-DOWN EFFECT ON THE RESIDENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES OF JAMAICA.

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News In Jamaica, attacks, murder, and rape are common occurrences against LGBTI people, with little to no retribution or justice brought against those responsible. After being forced from shacks, derelict buildings, and their own families, many homeless LGBTI Jamaicans have found refuge in the storm drainage systems of Kingston — known locally as the gully. For trans girls and gay men unable or unwilling to hide their sexuality, the sense of community and relative safety the gully provides acts as a welcome sanctuary, and for many, a hope of change to come. VICE News travelled to the New Kingston area to see what LGBTI life is like in Jamaica — where just being who you are can mean living a life underground. This unique community has found solace in the lyrics of street life and struggle of the recently incarcerated singer Vybz Kartel, a national hero of sorts and considered "The Voice of the Jamaican Guetto" by many. Check out the unofficial video for "Beautiful Girl" by Vybz Kartel, the ""voice of the Jamaican ghetto" at Noisey: http://bit.ly/1l7eE0P Check out the VICE News beta for more: http://vicenews.com Follow VICE News here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/vicenews Twitter: https://twitter.com/vicenews Tumblr: http://vicenews.tumblr.com/

Jamaica (i/dʒəˈmeɪkə/), officially the Commonwealth of Jamaica, is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, 234 kilometres (145 mi) in length, up to 80 kilometres (50 mi) in width, and 10,990 square kilometres (4,240 sq mi) in area. It is situated in the Caribbean Sea, about 145 kilometres (90 mi) south of Cuba, and 191 kilometres (119 mi) west of Hispaniola, the island harbouring the nation-states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The indigenous Arawakan-speaking Taíno name for the island was Xaymaca, meaning the "Land of Wood and Water" or the "Land of Springs".
Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago, it became an English colony in 1655 under the name "Jamaica". It achieved full independence from Britain on August 6, 1962. With 2.8 million people, it is the third most populous anglophone country in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. It remains a Commonwealth realm in concert with the Monarchy of Jamaica holding ultimate executive power, where Queen Elizabeth II is the current head of state and Queen of Jamaica.Kingston is the country's largest city and the capital.
Put on your sun tan lotion and block the sun
'Cause you're in Jamaica
Sensational quality from the greens to the tapestry
South central the beaches are so tropical
I wish I could go there and see the sites
And buy some things In Jamaica
You don't have to go far to find
So many friendly faces
And the beaches are dangerous after midnight
After midnight
Put on your sun tan lotion and block the sun
'Cause you're in Jamaica
Sensational quality from the greens to the tapestry
South central the beaches are so tropical
So tropical
So tropical
So tropical

Find it in me, to be your lover
Find it in me, to be your friend
I got a home, with space for another
So I'll be yours
We can let it go cause summer girlfriends, house in Jamaica
Said "oh, we've got a drink we can bring"
This is modern life and I've got a patience, sat by temptation
Said "oh, such an extraordinary thing"
[X2]
Fast asleep, in a suit, by the fire
Empty space, close my eyes, we expire
We can let it go cause summer girlfriends, house in Jamaica
Said "oh, we've got a drink we can bring"
This is modern life and I've got a patience, sat by temptation
Said "oh, such an extraordinary thing"
[X2]
How'd we come here? How'd we find this place on our own?
Smell that burning? Must be someone who calls this home
Guess I'll ask her later, guess I'll ask her alone
[X2]
We can let it go cause summer girlfriends, house in Jamaica
Said "oh, we've got a drink we can bring"
This is modern life and I've got a patience, sat by temptation
Said "oh, such an extraordinary thing"
Jamaica, oh Jamaica,
Little island shining in the sea,
There's a dark-eyed girl who's waiting,
Yes, she's waiting just for me.
Oh, in Jamaica, oh, Jamaica,
Where the gentle trade winds blow,
Once I'll hold her in my arms again,
I'll never ever ever ever let her go.
Never more will I travel
And no more will I roam,
Captain, weigh your anchor chain
And set your sails for home,
To Jamaica, oh Jamaica,
Little island I've been dreaming of,
I can't wait to reach that golden beach
When the world gets too much to carry
And when life becomes too bizarre
And all of my friends seem ordinary
As compared to the Rastafar
No, I can't wait to see the city
Have a drink inside my favorite bar
So if you leave me, that's a pity
Maybe I'm better off by far
Oh, Jamaica
Hold me
Come let your arms enfold me
Forever and ever
Someone told me
Love grows
Here in Jamaica
Leaving you, how could I ever
As I ran for the ocean ferry
Well I knew I'd said my last goodbye
And now my life seems so contrary
As the stars fill the evening sky
Oh, Jamaica
Hold me
Come let your arms enfold me
Forever and ever
Someone told me
Love grows
Here in Jamaica
Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica, Jamaica
Little Island Shining In The Sea
There’s A Dark Eyed Girl Who’s Waitin’, Waitin’
Yes, She’s Awaitin’ Just For Me Oh Oh Oh Oh
In Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica, Jamaica
Where The Dandle Trade Winds Blow
Once I Hold Her In My My My My My Arms Again
I Never Ever Ever Ever Let Her Go
Never More I’ll Travel, Jamaica
And No More Oh No No More, No More Will I Roam, Jamaica
Captain, Now Would You Wreck The Chain
And Set Your Sail For Home, Oh Oh Oh Oh
At Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica, Jamaica
Little Island I’ve Been Dreaming Of
I Can’t Wait To Reach That Golden Beach
And The Little Dark Eyed Girl I Love
Do You Read Me What I Say, Jamaica
Oh Oh Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica
Oh Oh Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica
Oh Oh Jamaica, Oh Oh Jamaica
Sie war ein Traum
superblond.
Wir haben letztes Jahr nicht nur gesonnt!
Gleich nächsten Sommer
so gab sie ihr Wort
selbes Hotel
wir treffen uns dort!
Wo es aufgehört hat
da fangen wir an
versprach sie und hauchte: "Bis dann!"
Und dann dies' Telegramm.
bist du denn verrückt?!
Du hast dich südwärts verdrückt!
Jamaica! Du bist längst in Jamaica!
Was willst du in Jamaica?
Was ist da denn schon los?!
Jamaica! Ich flieg' nie nach Jamaica
ist das Wetter auch schön da!
Was gibt's da denn schon groß?!
Ich geb' es zu
es ist kalt
drei Wochen Regen
das ist noch geprahlt!
Immer nur Fernsehn
macht mich nicht an
irgendwas ist am Süden wohl dran!
Während ich fast erfrier'
da aalst du dich entspannt
mit wildfremden Männern am Strand!
Ab ins Reisebüro
meinen Schirm laß ich hier
und bin schon morgen bei dir!
Jamaica! Ich fahre auch nach Jamaica!
Schließlich war ich noch nie da!
Es wird Zeit irgendwann!
Jamaica! Ich flieg' gleich nach Jamaica
denn sonst bist du allein da
und du langweilst dich dann!
Jamaica! Ich fahre auch nach Jamaica!
Schließlich war ich noch nie da!
Es wird Zeit irgendwann!
Jamaica! Ich flieg' gleich nach Jamaica
denn sonst bist du allein da

When will these dark clouds disappear from view
When will the sun begin to shine
When will I once again be near to you
When will I know for sure you're mine
Dreaming of those Jamaican nights
Longing to hold you
Jamaica take me away
Take me away with you
Jamaica, I'm wasting away
Take me away with you
Jamaica take me away
Take me away with you
Jamaica, I'm wasting away
Take me away with you
When will these dark days disappear again
When will I finally see the light
How long must I wait
To have you here my friend
I want to be with you tonight
Dreaming of those Jamaican nights
Longing to hold you
