The Great Dorset Steam Fair Part 1 - MUD ! Well here we are again, at the end of the 2014 steam rally season, and to round it off we are at the Great Dorset Steam Fair near Blandford Forum. Unfortunately though, due to the heavy rain on the Bank Holiday Monday the site became saturated. The heavy transporters and service vehicles that move around the grounds churned up the mud and by Wednesday when the gates opened to the public. The entire site was virtually impassable. Which put a halt to all traffic moving within the area and as a consequence it sadly brought a stop to most of the arena events. This part one video covering Wednesday through to Friday is a testament and tribute the the Great British public who having parted with their lucre donned their wellies and trudged through acres of the deepest and thickest mud I have seen. determined that the weather will not get the better of them. They say that at the GDSF your're either going to get the mud or the dust. - I know which I prefer! This video is captured in 4K UHD by the Panasonic GH4, resolving the best rendition of mud you'll find. Due to the strong winds though there is a fair bit of wind noise on the soundtrack which also shook the light travel tripod a fair bit. Look out for part 2 which will be the Friday night evening show with the Showmans engines lighting up the sky, and part three which will be the regular steam show. Music by YouTube Audio Library

noodls 2015-04-08Dorset ( /ˈdɔrsɨt/) (or archaically, Dorsetshire), is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast. The county town is Dorchester which is situated in the south. The Hampshire towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch joined the county with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. The ceremonial county comprises the area covered by the non-metropolitan county, which is governed by Dorset County Council, together with the unitary authorities of Poole and Bournemouth. Dorset covers an area of 2,653 square kilometres (1,024 sq mi); it borders Devon to the west, Somerset to the north-west, Wiltshire to the north-east, and Hampshire to the east. Around half of Dorset's population lives in the South East Dorset conurbation. The rest of the county is largely rural with a low population density.
The county has a long history of human settlement and some notable archaeology, including the hill forts of Maiden Castle and Hod Hill. A large defensive ditch, Bokerley Dyke, delayed the Saxon conquest of Dorset for up to 150 years. In 1348 the black death came ashore at Melcombe Regis and spread throughout England, killing a third of the population. Dorset has seen much civil unrest: the first trade union was formed by farm labourers from Tolpuddle in 1834, the Glorious Revolution was instigated in an ice-house at Charborough Park, and the Duke of Monmouth and his rebels landed at Lyme Regis. During the English Civil War (1642–1651) angry yokels fought with Cromwell's forces near Shaftesbury. The naval base at Portland has had a pivotal role in the nation's defence for many years, and with Weymouth and Poole was one of the main embarkation points on D-Day.
