Ask singer/songwriter Amie Mangola why she loves Country music and she's quick with an
enthusiastic response. "I'm a huge fan of country music — I grew up in California listening to Dolly and Reba from the time I was 8 years old and all my friends thought I was nuts... now young kids love country music. I was definitely country when country wasn't cool. My mother's father, "Papa Duke" — sang and played guitar, being a true country boy from the mountains of Arkansas. That wonderful man introduced me to country music. I remember watching him sing and pick at his guitar from the time I was little. I owe him a lot... He's a big part of who I am — musically and otherwise."
Ask her why she chose to make music her career, however, and she becomes quiet and reflective before answering. "When music touches you, it's like taking a breath in unison with God, so naturally I live for moments like that... it's just something I was born to do." Amie's music and voice illustrates what sets this talented young artist apart from a glut of pop-country singers while offering great songs inspired by themes found in traditional country music.
Amie explains, "It's a gift to have Dolly and Reba as idols and leaders in the business because they've shown everyone that there's something more to being an artist than just being a singer; you really have to be an entertainer and be open to taking your talents and career to bigger places which is what I want to do. I think in this day and age you need to be multifaceted. I love coming up with crazy and fun idea's -- that's what my music is about; honesty, heart and fun."
Amie's music has been featured on country radio stations across the California southland,
including the giant Go Country in Los Angeles, KHAY as well as smaller stations across the
US. Recently, she has shared the stage with the likes of Phil Vassar, Jason Aldean, Joey+Rory and James Otto to name a few, gracing such venues as the House of Blues and the legendary Cow Palace in Sacramento. "I've learned a lot playing at those little chili cook-offs and dive bars all these years as well as packed arenas and raceways. I'm at home on stage — I love it."
Amie Mangola's decisive artistic vision, coupled with her authentic talent, head turning looks and years of honing her musical skills makes success seem within grasp. "I want to say what girls and woman can't sometimes. We girls love to cry and laugh and dance. That's why country music is so compelling, it does it all."
