The announcement by Prime Minister John Key of the referendum came after his government last month won a third term in a general election. A panel of "respected New Zealanders" will lead the public discussion on potential designs for a new flag. Mr Key has previously said he would like to see a new flag featuring a silver fern, on a black background. That would be similar to the banner already used by many New Zealand teams such as the All Blacks national rugby union team. "I believe that this is the right time for New Zealanders to consider changing the [flag's] design to one that better reflects our status as a modern, independent nation," Mr Key said. abc breaking news, bbc, bbc football, bbc iplayer, bbc news, bbc news america, bbc persian, bbc sport, bbc weather, bbc world news, breaking celebrity news, breaking election news, breaking late news, breaking local news, breaking music news, breaking news, breaking news alerts, breaking news canada, breaking news headlines, breaking news in atlanta, breaking news in nigeria, breaking news india, breaking news pensacola florida, breaking news plane crash, breaking news story, breaking sports news, business expensive news home media world, christian world news, cnn, cnn breaking news, cnn money, cnn news, cnn news breaking news, cnn news world, detroit breaking news, global news, headline, headline news, health care technology news, hot latest global news, internet technology news, las vegas breaking news, latest breaking news, latest celebrity news, latest information technology news, latest music news, latest news, latest news headlines, latest news update, latest sports news, live breaking news, local breaking news, local news today, msn breaking news, nbc breaking news, nbc world news, news of the world, news report us world, news today news, news updated daily, solar technology news, sports news today, technology news, the latest news, today news, us news and world, us news and world report, us news and world report magazine, us news and world report web site, us news world report, world news, world news daily, world news headlines

Volunteers from the Project Jonah conservation group are working against the clock to save the rest of the mammals near Farewell Spit after more than half of them did not survive. The pilot whales are being doused in water to keep them cool and moist in the heat and some of the them were successfully refloated yesterday, the group said. However attempts to get them away from the 7km stretch of beach and back into the sea are more likely to succeed during the high tide. Even if the whales are refloated, that is no guarantee they would survive, Department of Conservation area manager Andrew Lamason said. “We’ve had plenty times in the past where the pods have gone out to sea and turned around and come back again,” he said. “We’re preparing for a big few days.” TAGS abc breaking news, bbc, bbc football, bbc iplayer, bbc news, bbc news america, bbc persian, bbc sport, bbc weather, bbc world news, breaking celebrity news, breaking election news, breaking late news, breaking local news, breaking music news, breaking news, breaking news alerts, breaking news canada, breaking news headlines, breaking news in atlanta, breaking news in nigeria, breaking news india, breaking news pensacola florida, breaking news plane crash, breaking news story, breaking sports news, business expensive news home media world, christian world news, cnn, cnn breaking news, cnn money, cnn news, cnn news breaking news, cnn news world, detroit breaking news, global news, headline, headline news, health care technology news, hot latest global news, internet technology news, las vegas breaking news, latest breaking news, latest celebrity news, latest information technology news, latest music news, latest news, latest news headlines, latest news update, latest sports news, live breaking news, local breaking news, local news today, msn breaking news, nbc breaking news, nbc world news, news of the world, news report us world, news today news, news updated daily, solar technology news, sports news today, technology news, the latest news, today news, us news and world, us news and world report, us news and world report magazine, us news and world report web site, us news world report, world news, world news daily, world news headlines
Rescuers are racing against the clock to refloat about 90 stranded pilot whales after more than 100 died on a beach on New Zealand's South Island. The rescuers and volunteers at Farewell Spit, Golden Bay, managed to shepherd many mammals into deeper water, only for them to again run aground. Conservation officials believe they have one last chance to refloat the whales on the high tide. If that fails, the mammals may have to be put down. The rescuers are now trying to keep the distressed whales comfortable by pouring water over them. Those mammals who died are believed to have suffered great physical and emotional trauma. Local conservation ranger Mike Ogle said it is the biggest beaching incident in 10-15 years. "Because there's just so many whales, there are a couple of spots where a lot would gather together and that's kind of problematic from the aspect that you can't get in there, it's just too dangerous," he said. Farewell Spit has been the location of many whale beachings. Experts say its shallow waters seems to confuse whales and hinder their ability to navigate. Once they are stranded, whales can suffer from dehydration and sunburn. Pilot whales can grow to about 20ft (6 metres) and are the most common species of whale in New Zealand's waters. Andrew Lamason from the Department Of Conservation said it could take days to refloat the whales and even then there would be no guarantees they would survive. "We've had plenty times in the past where the pods have gone out to sea and turned around and come back again," Mr Lamason said. "We're preparing for a big few days." Scientists do not know what causes groups of whales to beach themselves. The whales, part of a larger pod that beached on Tuesday, came ashore at Ohiwa Harbour in the Bay of Plenty early Thursday, the Department of Conservation said. The department, which originally said the group had 21 whales, said 14 of them died and the rest were euthanised on welfare grounds. It brings the total number of pilot whale deaths in the North Island harbour to 58 since Tuesday. Darren Grover, from whale rescue volunteer group Project Jonah, said hopes the whales would head to deeper waters after being re-floated on Wednesday proved futile. "This is a sad outcome after yesterday's successes," he said. "It's worth remembering that every moment out of their natural environment is a highly stressful time for these beautiful animals." Mass pilot whale strandings are common in New Zealand, with scientists unclear about why the marine mammals swim ashore in large groups. Welcome aboard one of the newest aircraft in the skies.... the Boeing 787-9. Air New Zealand is the launch customer of the type and are currently flying it between Auckland and Sydney, soon to be followed by Perth and some Asian destinations. These Auckland/Sydney runs have been a way for the crew to familiarise themselves with the aircraft before long haul services commence. This video has been filmed in the brand new Premium Economy cabin, this particular seat is different to that found on the B777-300ER, it's a more typical recliner seat in black leather. This comprehensive video shows flight NZ104 and includes the boarding, pushback, engine start (great start sound), taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, meal service, a look at the economy cabin, descent and landing in Auckland. Please note that whilst I was sitting in Premium Economy, the service is standard Tasman economy. This is because Air New Zealand don't sell premium economy on short haul sectors, however you can pre-purchase a seat for an additional charge. These seats are also provided to elite frequent flyers and those travelling on the works deluxe or premium economy long haul fares. There is the ability to purchase food and snacks on the entertainment touch screen and have them delivered, you will see this demonstrated in this video. Two of us booked Economy seats on Air New Zealand's new 777-300ER for a recent long haul Pacific crossing [Aircraft ZK-OKN]. We were given the option of paying extra to upgrade to the "Skycouch" [seen at 4:35]. Very nice as you are guaranteed to have the center seat open. The "couch" has numerous configurations; you can use it as a leg rest, or in the extended and locked position to make a bed. During boarding you are given a thin mattress pad and two extra large pillows to use. You are also given a seatbelt kit that allows you to stay secure no matter what size (children) or position you're in. (There are metal brackets under the seat pocket in front of you to clip the belts to.) Pacific Economy was really nice on the 777-300s. The Inflight Entertainment System is very good. In addition, you can order drinks, snacks and other items that are delivered to your seat. Pretty cool. Self service shelves at the exit rows allow you to have a snack or drink whenever you like. The most noticeable feature of our Air New Zealand flights however, were the really friendly crew. We flew SFO-AKL-SYD-CHC-AKL-LAX, and every flight found us commenting on how nice the crew was. They all looked sharp and were consistently helpful and cheerful.

Download a free worksheet to go with this lesson here: http://thehevproject.blogspot.com/p/free-worksheets.html *p.s. These worksheets have yummy recipes to go along with each country! My father was a traveler and spoke 7 languages fluently. I remember being fascinated by the maps, pictures, and relics he brought home with him. When I was a boy he and I traveled by bus from one end of Mexico to the other staying in the homes of random people and taking in all of what Mexico had to offer (large cockroaches, hot food and all!) . I guess some of that rubbed off on me. I speak Spanish and English fluently, and can get by in German, Portuguese, and Mandarin Chinese. Today, when I visit another country my favorite place to be is in someone’s house taking in the feeling of their lives and culture, and eating their food! This course allows one to learn about world history by discussing the history and culture of individual countries. The countries selected for this series are ones that I have traveled to or are the homeland of a person with whom I am acquainted with, or both. Some of the topics that are discussed to help learn about culture are: i. Art ii. Music iii. Dance iv. Politics/government v. Language vi. Money vii. Food b. Each lesson involves a brief history of the country and a printout that invites the learner to consider lessons that can be learned from that country’s history. Most of the lessons involve a recipe to make a meal common to that area. (because food says a lot about a culture and is really fun to make!)

Experience Beijing Culture with Monica and Wayne from Air New Zealand. Beijing is the cultural, historical and political heart of China, today it a modern and thriving metropolis but also home to some of the world's most impressive ancient wonders: The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace. But there's another side to Beijing -- uber cool bars, ultra-modern architecture, great shopping (both in the markets and at the malls), and wonderful cuisine. The rich traditions of China date back centuries and in Beijing you can find them all -- both in traditional and modern form. The evolution of China is reflected in the music and art scene in Beijing.

New Zealand Tourism, New Zealand Travel Guide, NZ Vacation New Zealand Tourist Attractions, New Zealand Nature, NZ cities Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Top Tourist Attractions in New Zealand Milford Sound ======== Milford Sound is among the most famous tourist attractions in New Zealand. Lying at the most northern and accessible end of Fiordland National Park, Milford sound offers some of the world's most staggering coastal scenery with its dramatic peaks and dark blue waters. The area's frequent downpours only enhance this South Island beauty, sending numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs. Bay of Islands ========== The Bay of Islands is one of the most popular holiday destinations in New Zealand. The picturesque area contains 144 islands, many secluded bays and some great sandy beaches. This beautiful bay has an abundance of marine life including whales, penguins, dolphins and the big marlin. Not surprisingly, it is a popular tourist spot for sailing yachts on world cruises and international sport fishermen. Tongariro National Park =================== The first national park of New Zealand, Tongariro is known for its surprises and extremes. The park's diverse range of ecosystems includes tranquil lakes, active volcanoes, herb fields, untamed forests and desert-like plateaus. Start your trek at the Whakapapa Visitor Center, just a three hour hike from the stunning Taranaki Falls. The short hike will take you through scrubland and forest and across the lava line of volcanic eruptions from hundreds of years ago. Rotorua ======== Rotorua is known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. There are numerous geysers and hot springs in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves. Natural eruptions of steam, hot water and mud occasionally occur in new locations. Nearby Wai-O-Tapu is also a popular tourist attraction with many hot springs noted for their colorful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser. Franz Josef Glacier ============= This glacier, located within Westland National Park in the southwest, is one of the world's most accessible. Visitors can walk right up to the foot of the massive glacier or take a helicopter ride over the dazzling Ice Age remnant. Together with Fox Glacier it is one of South Westland's major drawcards for tourists. Kaikoura ======== This small coastal town on the South Island is a haven for seafood lovers. You can spot fur seals, dolphins, sperm whales and albatrosses off the shore, then indulge in a feast of fresh crayfish, mussels, blue cod and more. Land lovers can take a wilderness walk through the untamed and dramatic Kaikoura forest. Napier Art Deco ======== Napier, a small city in Hawke's Bay on the North Island's east coast, is famous for its eye-catching art deco architecture. Most of Napier was leveled by an earthquake in 1931. The rebuilding period coincided with the short-lived Art Deco era and as a result Napier's architecture is strikingly different from any other city in the world. Thousands of tourist visit Napier every February for the Art Deco Weekend, an event dedicated to the style, vintage cars, picnics and the soapbox derby. Sky Tower =============== The Sky Tower is an observation and telecommunications tower located in New Zealand's largest city. At a height of 328 meters (1,076 ft) it is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere and the Sky Tower has become an iconic structure in Auckland's skyline. The tower offers views of up to 80 km away and fine dining in the Orbit revolving restaurant. Abel Tasman National Park =============== Located on the northern tip of the country's South Island, this vast national park is a hiker's dream. Closed to vehicles, one must enter by boat, foot or small plane, but the trip is well worth it. While traversing the mountainous terrain, blue penguins, wekas, oyster catchers, wood pigeons and other rare birds can all be seen. Coromandel Peninsula ============== This north-eastern peninsula is famous for its white and golden sand beaches that frame magnificent coastal scenery, forests perfect for days of exploration and other natural wonders. Start your visit in Thames, a small but picturesque city with a rich history of gold mining. Don't miss a stop at Hot Water Beach, where visitors can dig their own hot pool from the springs under the sands. ====================== New Zealand tourist attractions, New Zealand Tourism, New Zealand Nature, NZ cities, NZ full video HD, New Zealand HD, New Zealand Travel, New Zealand Travel Guide, New Zealand Vacations, New Zealand Landscape, New Zealand Tours, Top Tourist Attractions in New Zealand, Milford Sound, Bay of Islands Tongariro, National Park, Rotorua, Franz Josef Glacier, Kaikoura, Napier Art Deco, Sky Tower Abel Tasman National Park, Coromandel Peninsula

Wellington, New Zealand Tourism , Wellington, New Zealand Vacations, Wellington Tours Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube See in Wellington, New Zealand ============================== Te Papa, . The national museum. Particularly good if you have children to entertain on a rainy day. Free (except for the occasional special presentation). Museum of Wellington City & Sea, Queens Wharf, . Daily, 10AM-5PM, closed 25 Dec. A well-presented museum of the history of Wellington, including its maritime history. Free. City Gallery, Civic Square. Lacks a permanent collection but runs a consistently avant-garde set of exhibits. It also has the excellent cafe Nikau attached to it. The Wellington Cable Car, from Lambton Quay (next to the McDonald's), 04 472 2199, . Daily until 10PM. The easiest way to get a nice view of the city and harbor, the Cable Car runs on rails from Lambton Quay to the Botanic Garden in Kelburn every ten minutes. $3.50 one way, $6.00 return (Concession prices are available for children, students and senior citizens over 65) Frank Kitts Park. A great place to wander around, with walls to climb, inline skates, and jet ski rental. Futuna Chapel. Important architecture modernist masterpiece located in suburb of Karori. Visit by arrangement Wrights Hill. More views, and WWII underground tunnels which are open to the public on public holidays for a small fee. Brooklyn Wind Turbine. Another great place to go to get an excellent view of the city, the harbour, and Cook Strait, plus experience the wind! Access is signposted from Brooklyn shops: head up Todman Street. Massey Memorial An interesting place to go if you want to see a large memorial in the middle of nowhere, with a good view of the surrounding harbour. Karori Cemetery is an interesting picnic spot. Elmscourt an historic art deco apartment block on the corner of The Terrace and Abel Smith Street. Oriental Parade. A new beach. However if you are not from somewhere really cold it is unlikely that it will be hot enough for you to be in desperate need for a swim. There is a spa pool (jacuzzi) in Freyberg Swimming pool (on Oriental Parade) which is inexpensive if you enjoy "people soup". Zealandia (Karori Wildlife Sanctuary), end of Waiapu Rd, (first left after the Karori Tunnel), . Daily 10AM-5PM (last entry 4PM), closed 25 Dec. A predator-proof fence encloses an old water catchment area, forming a mainland island that provides a natural haven for endangered native birds, tuatara, wētā, and other indigenous flora and fauna, safe from introduced predators. By far the most convenient place in the country to see rare New Zealand wildlife. $17.50, child $9, more for guided tours. Plimmer's Ark. Under and in the Old Bank Arcade on the corner of Lambton Quay and Customhouse Quay - near Plimmer's Steps. A hundred years ago a Bank was built on top of a wrecked ship that had been used as a market. When they renovated the building they discovered the ship's timbers and preserved the remains in the building! Just take the escalator down through the bank vault doors. Parliament Buildings, the Beehive (or Executive Wing), and the Parliamentary Library. The grounds of Parliament are open to the public. Known as the hill, Parliament grounds are at the foot of Molesworth and Bowen Streets, where they meet Lambton Quay. National Library of New Zealand, corner of Aitken and Molesworth Streets (across the road from the Cathedral and Parliament), . The library regularly holds exhibitions. Turnbull House, Bowen Street (just across the road from Parliament Buildings). This imposing brick mansion now seems small and out of place amongst the surrounding high-rises. The Old Government Buildings, with the cenotaph in the foreground and NZ Post headquarters behind. Old Government Buildings opposite Parliament at 15 Lambton Quay. This is the largest wooden building in the southern hemisphere and the second-largest in the world. It is now the home of Victoria University Law School. Old St Paul's, (one block east of Parliament). This was the Anglican center for decades. Superseded by the new cathedral north of Parliament, this one is popular for weddings and funerals. Wellington Central Library, (in the city square, next to the information centre), . It's huge with great places to sit and read or if you bring your laptop to connect home via one of the city's paid-for wi-fi networks. Entry is free.

http://www.expedia.com/Auckland.d178233.Destination-Travel-Guides With 1.5 million lucky people calling Auckland home, this North Island gem is the most populous city in New Zealand. Auckland tourism is quite diverse, giving visitors a bounty of choices for how to spend their time. The city marries modern buildings and art with nature, and the surrounding region has plenty of its own attractions to offer. Auckland is called the City of Sails, boasting more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world. Nestled between two natural harbors, it’s no wonder residents and visitors alike enjoy spending time on the water. After a breakfast in Elliott Stables, take off on a boat cruise from downtown to explore the sights of Hauraki Gulf. With your feet back on solid ground, enjoy Auckland sightseeing and shopping along Queen Street. Jet over to Ponsonby, which is considered one of the more hip neighborhoods in Auckland. When lunchtime rolls around, find your way to Devonport, a lovely harborside suburb where you can enjoy a seafood lunch. With a contented stomach, spend some time at Auckland Domain, the city’s oldest park. Watch a game of cricket, walk through the Formal Gardens, or take a leisurely stroll through the mature trees. If you’re interested in even more of New Zealand’s natural landscape, head just outside the city for rolling hills, jagged cliffs, and forests with towering treetops. Walk through the Hauna Ranges and you’ll be rewarded with the Hunua Falls, an impressive waterfall rushing over a volcanic edge. Visitors interested in adventurous Auckland tours must head to the downtown Sky Tower before leaving New Zealand. This is the tallest man-made building in the entire country – and it offers a breathtaking base jump from the top. If you’re not in the mood for that much adrenaline, head to the observation platform to take in sweeping views of the city and harbor. What do you most look forward to doing in Auckland? Auckland - New Zealand - Oceania Tourism, Attractions, Travel Guide - Travel Videos HD, World Travel http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube Improbably strung across a series of volcanoes, and punctuated by islands of green, Auckland is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is also extraordinary for the diversity of its population, with one-third of its residents born overseas. This makes it a genuine cultural melting pot and the most vibrant city in New Zealand. For unparalleled beauty, consider Auckland's natural assets. Framed by the summit of Maungawhau (Mt Eden), it is surrounded by the sweeping expanse of Waitematā Harbour to the north-west, with the distinctive cone of Rangitoto Island and the islands of the inner Hauraki Gulf to the north-east. On a clear day, Little Barrier (Hauturu) and Great Barrier (Aotea) islands and the Coromandel Peninsula shimmer in the distance. Thanks to its location on a narrow isthmus, Auckland's districts weave around bays and harbours, so you're never far from the water. In fact, the intricate series of inlets and creeks means that most residents live within 5km (2 miles) of the sea. In total, Auckland and its surroundings are blessed with over 1,600km (994 miles) of unpolluted coastline featuring glorious beaches. If you fancy a dip, head to Mission Bay, Takapuna or Devonport, while there are good surfing spots at Pihi and Muriwai. Considering these facts, it's no surprise then that the city is obsessed with sailing, with more boats per capita in Auckland than any other city in the world, earning it the moniker 'City of Sails'. Aside from its natural assets, Auckland is the country's most culturally diverse city, home to a significant Polynesian, Asian and Maori community, who made up around 44% of the population in 2006. This diversity is reflected in Auckland's eclectic restaurants serving quality Pacific Rim cuisine (fish and seafood here is divine) and its shops. Despite the fact that it's the country's largest city, it's surprisingly small and has a village-like ambience. From its vibrant, regenerated waterfront and ever-expanding Downtown district to its hip suburbs with their Edwardian and Victorian delights, Auckland teems with delights. And its manmade attractions are equally compelling. Check out the iconic Sky Tower, New Zealand's tallest building, where visitors can drink in breathtaking views from a height of 328m (1,076ft). Or visit the superb Auckland Museum, housed in an impressive Greco-Roman style building, dedicated to telling the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. It is particularly renowned for its Maori and Pacific collections. Make a detour to swoop over Auckland's Harbour Bridge. Although lacking the resonance of its Sydney counterpart, it is an important part of the city's history and offers spectacular harbour views for daredevils willing to bungee jump into the harbour. And when you want to escape the urban jungle, head out to the unspoilt Waitakere Ranges, a chain of hills lying 25 km (14 miles) from the city to the west, where you'll discover traditional Maori carvings, black-sand beaches and kauri forests. With such bountiful attractions, it's no wonder that thousands of foreign students every year head to Auckland to make the city their home. Follow their lead and pay a visit -- you won't regret it.

The Hindu 2015-03-24New Zealand (Māori: Aotearoa) is an island country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses ‒ that of the North and South Islands ‒ as well as numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometres (900 mi) east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometres (600 mi) south of the Pacific island nations of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. Because of its remoteness, it was one of the last lands to be settled by humans.
During its long isolation, New Zealand developed a distinctive biodiversity of both animal and plant life. Most notable are the large number of unique bird species, many of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and introduced mammals. With a mild maritime climate, the land was mostly covered in forest. The country's varied topography and its sharp mountain peaks owe much to the tectonic uplift of land and volcanic eruptions caused by the Pacific and Indo-Australian Plates clashing beneath the earth's surface.
When they say
We were never old enough to care
It's like first of November
And when they say
We were never good enough to love
They've been washed in the holy waters
So I wanna die
With my eyes full life
All the years I survived I knew nothing about
Nothing about
So I wanna die
With my head full life
All the years I survived I knew nothing about
Nothing about so much
Hope we got far
'Cause here it's the same as for a bear
To be stuck inside a bird cage
And if we swim
To see New Zealand with our friends
Oh would you please bury me there
And sing
Together for the new start
I'm sailing
Through the mighty coast lines
As a ghost on a holiday
So I wanna die
With my eyes full life
All the years I survived I knew nothing about
Nothing about
So I wanna die
With my head full life
All the years I survived I knew nothing about
Oh gove me
Fufty-sex buts of fash and chips
I hiven't said that since
Nineteen fufty-sux
That's a bit rich
If you kuss me on the lops
I'll hut you with my fust
If you guve me the shuts
Amen
Real Lyrics:
Oh give me
Fifty-six bits of fish and chips
I haven't said that since
Nineteen fifty-six
That's a bit rich
If you kiss me on the lips
I'll hit you with my fist
If you give me the shits
