Participating in the special event were veterans from Commando Unit 101, in which Har-Zion fought, young soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade, military prep school students and the general public.
Meir Har-Zion was one of the heroes of the Retribution Acts in the 1950s. He was awarded the Medal of Courage and was one of the founders of the Paratroopers Patrol as well as its first commander. He and his wife Ruti established a farm, near the Belvoir site, where their four children were born and raised.
The event, which took place last Friday, March 20, 2015, was organized jointly by the Har-Zion Organization, the Emek Hamaayanot Regional Council, KKL-JNF, INPA and the Southern Jordan Streams and Drainage Authority.
Yiftah Harhol, KKL-JNF Northern Region Director, said that KKL-JNF is planning to
plant a grove at the site with 101 trees in memory of Har-Zion. “The ideals he symbolizes, love for the land of Israel and its defense, connect very well with KKL-JNF's values,” Harhol said.
The Belvoir National Park is situated on the eastern heights of Ramat Yissachar overlooking the Jordan Valley. In the center of the park there is a magnificent Crusader fortress, the most intact of all those in Israel that remain from the Crusader Period. The breathtaking panoramas of the Gilad Mountains on the other side of the Jordan River inspired its founders to name it Belvoir (beautiful view).
