The Mysterious Dark Ages (HD Ancient Middle Ages History Documentary) At its height in the second century A.D., the Roman Empire was the beacon of learning, trade, power and prosperity in the western world. But the once-powerful Rome--rotten to the core by the fifth century--lay open to barbarian warriors who came in wave after wave of invasion, slaughtering, stealing, and ultimately, settling. As chaos replaced culture, Europe was beset by famine, plague, persecutions, and a state of war that was so persistent it was only rarely interrupted by peace. THE DARK AGES profiles those who battled to shape the future, from the warlords whose armies threatened to case the demise of European society, like Alaric, Charles the Hammer, and Clovis; to the men and women who valiantly tended the flames of justice, knowledge, and innovation including Charlemagne, St. Benedict, Empress Theodora, and other brave souls who fought for peace and enlightenment. It was in the shadows of this turbulent millennium that the seeds of modern civilization were sown.

The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) Professor Freedman outlines the problems facing the Roman Empire in the third century. The Persian Sassanid dynasty in the East and various Germanic tribes in the West threatened the Empire as never before. Internally, the Empire struggled with the problem of succession, an economy wracked by inflation, and the decline of the local elite which had once held it together. Having considered these issues, Professor Freedman then moves on to the reforms enacted under Diocletian to stabilize the Empire. He attempted to solve the problem of succession by setting up a system of joint rule called the Tetrarchy, to stabilize the economy through tax reform, and to protect the frontiers through militarization. Although many of his policies failed--some within his lifetime--Diocletian nevertheless saved the Roman Empire from collapse. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Introduction and Logistics 01:35 - Chapter 2. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) The Roman Empire in the West collapsed as a political entity in the fifth century although the Eastern part survived the crisis.. Professor Freedman considers this transformation through three main questions: Why did the West fall apart -- because of the external pressure of invasions or the internal problems of institutional decline? Who were these invading barbarians? Finally, does this transformation mark a gradual shift or is it right to regard it as a cataclysmic end of civilization? Professor Freedman, as a moderate catastrophist, argues that this period marked the end of a particular civilization rather than the end of civilization in general. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) Professor Freedman opens by discussing why historians use the writings of Procopius and Gregory of Tours, a sixth century bishop whose history of the Merovingian kings is discussed the following week. Procopius's three works -- The Wars, the adulatory Buildings, and the invective Secret History -- are the best sources on the reign of the Emperor Justinian. Under Justinian and his wife Theodora, the Roman Empire reached its height as it reclaimed territories in North Africa and Europe previously lost to the Vandals, Visigoths and Ostrogoths.. However, defeats in war accompanied by heavy taxation led to civil unrest. In addition to the wars, Justinian commissioned a number of large projects like the building of the Hagia Sophia and the organization of Roman law in the Corpus Iuris Civilis. 00:00 - Chapter 1. The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210) In this lecture, Professor Freedman considers the importance of the British Isles in the early Middle Ages, both in their own right and as an example of a post-Roman frontier society. In the wake of the fifth century Roman withdrawal, England experienced "radical economic simplification." However, England's conversion to Christianity beginning at the end of the sixth century brought about a flourishing written culture and Latin learning. Ireland experienced a similar cultural flowering, although it had converted to Christianity centuries earlier. It had never been colonized by the Romans, and the Irish Church was less hierarchical, more decentralized, and placed less importance on bishops than did the Roman. The conversion of England under the competeing influences of Rome and ireland was thus not just a conflict between Christianity and paganism, but also between two administrative styles of Christianity. Professor Freedman ends the lecture with a few remarks on the cultural accomplishments of the British Isles. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Introduction to the British Isles 22:32 - Chapter 2. The Conversion of England 36:30 - Chapter 3. The Conversion of Ireland and the Irish Church 45:34 - Chapter 4. THE REAL DARK AGES: OFFA (ANCIENT MIDDLE AGES HISTORY DOCUMENTARY) Offa, (died July 796), one of the most powerful kings in early Anglo-Saxon England. As ruler of Mercia from 757 to 796, Offa brought southern England to the highest level of political unification it had yet achieved in the Anglo-Saxon period (5th–11th century ad). He also formed ties with rulers on the European continent. A member of an ancient Mercian ruling family, Offa seized power in the civil war that followed the murder of his cousin, King Aethelbald (reigned 716–757). By ruthlessly suppressing resistance from several small kingdoms in and around Mercia, he created a single state covering most of England south of modern Yorkshire. The lesser kings of this region paid him homage, and he married his daughters to the rulers of Wessex and Northumbria. Offa appears to have aspired to be accepted as an equal by continental monarchs. Charlemagne, king of the Franks, quarreled with Offa, but the two rulers concluded a commercial treaty in 796. In addition, Offa maintained a friendly relationship with Pope Adrian I, who was allowed to increase his control over the English church, while acceding to Offa’s request for the creation of an archbishopric of Lichfield. This remarkable, if temporary, change in church organization freed the Mercian church from the authority of the archbishop of Canterbury, who was seated among Offa’s enemies in the kingdom of Kent. An impressive memorial to Offa’s power survives in the great earthwork known as Offa’s Dyke, which he had constructed between Mercia and the Welsh settlements to the west. Perhaps the most enduring achievement of his reign was the establishment of a new form of coinage bearing the king’s name and title and the name of the moneyer responsible for the quality of the coins. The principles governing his coinage were employed in England for centuries afterward.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_music http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/renm/hd_renm.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Renaissance_composers (III - De musica Horae mediae aetatis, Nobis nuper) - The Renaissance is a period from the 15th to the 17th century, considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and Modern history. It started as a cultural movement in northern Italy and cities like Florence, Genua, Bologna and Venice in the Late Medieval period and later spread to the rest of Europe. Some good early examples were the perspective within painting and the recycled knowledge of how to make concrete. Although the invention of metal movable type sped the dissemination of ideas from the later 15th century, the changes of the Renaissance were not uniformly experienced across Europe. Generally, the end of the Middle Ages could be set to around 1475, but in Italy north of the Papal State this could be five decades earlier. As a cultural movement, it encompassed innovative flowering of Latin and vernacular literatures, beginning with the 14th-century resurgence of learning based on classical sources, which contemporaries credited to Petrarch, the development of linear perspective and other techniques of rendering a more natural reality in painting, and gradual but widespread educational reform. In politics, the Renaissance contributed the development of the conventions of diplomacy, and in science an increased reliance on observation. Although the Renaissance saw revolutions in many intellectual pursuits, as well as social and political upheaval, it is perhaps best known for its artistic developments and the contributions of such polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who inspired the term "Renaissance man". There is a consensus that the Renaissance began in Florence, Italy, in the 14th century. Various theories have been proposed to account for its origins and characteristics, focusing on a variety of factors including the social and civic peculiarities of Florence at the time; its political structure; the patronage of its dominant family, the Medici; and the migration of Greek scholars and texts to Italy following the Fall of Constantinople at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. The Renaissance has a long and complex historiography, and in line with general scepticism of discrete periodizations, there has been much debate among historians reacting to the 19th-century glorification of the "Renaissance" and individual culture heroes as "Renaissance men", questioning the usefulness of Renaissance as a term and as a historical delineation. The art historian Erwin Panofsky observed of this resistance to the concept of "Renaissance": It is perhaps no accident that the factuality of the Italian Renaissance has been most vigorously questioned by those who are not obliged to take a professional interest in the aesthetic aspects of civilization—historians of economic and social developments, political and religious situations, and, most particularly, natural science—but only exceptionally by students of literature and hardly ever by historians of Art. Some have called into question whether the Renaissance was a cultural "advance" from the Middle Ages, instead seeing it as a period of pessimism and nostalgia for classical antiquity, while social and economic historians, especially of the longue duree, have instead focused on the continuity between the two eras which are linked, as Panofsky himself observed, "by a thousand ties". The word Renaissance, literally meaning "Rebirth" in French, first appears in English in the 1830s.The word occurs in Jules Michelet's 1855 work, Histoire de France. The word Renaissance has also been extended to other historical and cultural movements, such as the Carolingian Renaissance and the Renaissance of the 12th century. -Disclaimer- All music and images belong to their rightful owners no copyright infringement intended. Artists' renditions of Jesus, theChrist, both ancient and modern, illustrate this passion hymn that dates back to the Middle Ages. It' is sung by Michael Card on his "The Hidden Face of God" album. The lyrics: O sacred head now wounded With grief and shame way down, Now scornfully surrounded With thorns thine only crown, How art thou pale with anguish, With sore abuse and scorn. How does that visage languish, Which once was bright as morn. What Thou, my Lord, hast suffered, was all for sinners’ gain; Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain. Lo, here I fall, my Savior! ’Tis I deserve Thy place; Look on me with Thy favor, vouchsafe to me Thy grace. What language shall I borrow To thank thee dearest man? For this, thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end. O make me thine forever, And should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, ever Outlive my love to thee.
Medieval swords are some of the most astounding weapons and the craftsmanship and intricate detail of many these weapons are a wonder. The medieval sword descended from the Roman spatha the shorter sword used by Roman infantry. The barbarian Franks preferred to use long heavy swords that were constructed from soft iron that were far less reliable than the well crafted short Roman swords. In the 6th century Viking invaders began terrorizing many parts of Europe and the Vikings carried large swords that were capable of smashing through the smaller swords once favored by the Romans. The sword that the Vikings carried was the direct forefather of the traditional Knight sword favored by so many in the Middle Ages.Medieval weaponry was fairly simple during the early Middle Ages but the crafting of swords continued to advance as man's knowledge of crafting metal advanced. Most medieval swords were crafted from a strong metal compound that made them much harder to break and the weight of swords increased as the blades got longer. Blade weapons had been one of the primary form of weapons used by mankind throughout history. Since the creation of bladed weapons over three thousand years before Christ swords were the weapon of choice for nearly every civilization in history. They were the primary weapon used by millions of people until the late 19th century when the invention of gunpowder made traditional Medieval weaponry obsolete. There are a number of traditional medieval swords The short sword designed to be a short stabbing blade that is easy to wield in close quarter combat. The longsword a longer blade than the short sword was made to be swung easily in battle. It added reach to the sword's wielder while still being light enough to be easily used. The broadsword was the traditional sword of knights. The broadsword was designed to be heavy and cause blunt force damage in addition to the chopping and slicing damage done by the sharp blade and the blade was heavier and broader than the average long sword. The bastard sword or handandahalf sword was a sword that could be used with one hand or two. This sword was made to deliver a great deal of force. The claymore was the favored sword of Scottish warriors and the two handed claymore was used as a two handed weapon capable of inflicting massive damage. The greatsword was designed as a two handed weapon capable of chopping through chainmail and deep into the flesh but they were heavy and difficult to use.Medieval swords were the main weapons of use in a time when lances spears pikes and halberds were common infantry weapons. Due to the high price of steel in medieval times only the rich lords and knights were able to afford the costly medieval weaponry. Less fortunate warriors were relegated to using weapons that combined wood with a steel tip such as spears and pikes. Swords were usually fancy affairs and many people gilded their swords in order to decorate them. A sword was considered a man's honor and dishonored knights were forced to relinquish their sword to their conqueror as a sign of submission.
A pretzel (German: Brezel or Breze) is a type of baked bread product made from dough most commonly shaped into a knot. Pretzels originated in Europe, most likely among monasteries in the Early Middle Ages. The traditional pretzel shape is a distinctive symmetrical looped form, with the ends of a long strip of dough intertwined and then twisted back into itself in a certain way (a pretzel loop). Pretzels now come in different shapes. Salt is the most common seasoning for pretzels other seasonings include sugars, chocolate, glazes, seeds, and nuts.

The Guardian 2015-03-22The Middle Ages (adjectival form: medieval, mediaeval or mediæval) is a period of European history encompassing the 5th to the 15th centuries. It is normally marked from the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, accepted as the end of Classical Antiquity, until the beginning of the Renaissance and Age of Discovery, which ushered in the Modern Era. It is thus the middle period of the traditional division of Western history into Classical, Medieval, and Modern. The Middle Ages is often split into two or three sub-divisions.
In the Early Middle Ages, depopulation, deurbanization, and barbarian invasion, all of which had begun in Late Antiquity, continued apace. The barbarian invaders formed their own new kingdoms in the remains of the Western Roman Empire. In the 7th century North Africa and the Middle East, once part of the eastern empire, became an Islamic Empire after conquest by Muhammad's successors. Although there were substantial changes in society and political structures, the break was not as extreme as once put forth by historians, with most of the new kingdoms incorporating as many of the existing Roman institutions as they could. Christianity expanded in western Europe and monasteries were founded. In the 7th and 8th centuries the Franks, under the Carolingian dynasty, established an empire covering much of western Europe; it lasted until the 9th century, when it succumbed to pressure from new invaders – the Vikings, Magyars, and Saracens.
Darl tales of middle ages, scent blood and hate; injustices with theft.
Voices from torture dungeon, guardians with black mask, irontongs on fire.
Diabolical looks of tormentors, fearness dreams of imprisoners.
Pain and agony, killers of shouts, suffocaters of cries, satisfy shouting revenge dungeon.
Servitude abases the human conscience, confiscates the conniving slaves.
Aggrogance of carcass remains show their anger with a strong congeal.
Taste the cold but ardent carver can easily chop you in two in a minute then easily be commemorated.
Bowling girl, increases his appetitle, amorphous vagina caused by pulverizing,
Became turbid with her breasts then klitoris consequently.
Chewing her soft klito, feeling her hot capillary vessels.
Toilsome torture goes on and the last and the worst mistake she has ever done,
Misfortunate of others, agonizing bodies of minority.
Maltreat of the mankind, first push the tongue into the maidens pussy then bite hardly with a gorment.
Listen her last cries as a hymn
As a satisfactory orgasm makes it wargasm consequently on your mind,
