Port Alberni

Port Alberni is a small city located on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The city has a small population of fewer than 20,000 residents and many of the families that first moved here worked either in the Port or in the forestry industry. The forestry industry was the main source of revenue for residents here throughout the 1900s however today, the city is trying to move from a forestry dependant economy to one that is much more centered on the tourism industry. Port Alberni is the gateway city to all of the small towns of Ucluelet and Tofino on the western side of Vancouver Island. These towns have been growing steadily over the past few decades as tourist hotspots and Port Alberni's residents are trying to capitalize on this influx of tourist dollars to the area. The Pacific Rim National Park is another popular tourist attraction about 1.5 hours west of Port Alberni as well as Mount Arrowsmith.
