It is the job of any person working in maintenance to keep equipment, machines, or buildings in proper working order. While maintenance employees are often associated with performing small repairs in office buildings or rental properties, they can carry out a number of different tasks depending on their area of specialization. They work on everything from aircrafts to water mains, and it's because of these dedicated individuals working behind the scenes that we're able to enjoy the things we use on a daily basis as well as the buildings in which we use them.

Responsibilities & Skills

The most important responsibility for a maintenance worker is to ensure the building or equipment he or she is in charge of is kept in safe, working order. He or she should enjoy working with their hands, be able to stand for long periods of time, and enjoy completing a variety of different tasks. Duties may include machine installation, insulation, pipe fitting, building repair, flooring, plumbing, and electrical work. People working in maintenance should also be able to operate and inspect heavy machinery, clean and repair equipment, and perform routine checks.
