LATEST UPDATE [HOT NEWS] VIDEO U.S. airstrikes on ISIS near Baghdad - Sept 16, 2014 (CNN) -- ISIS beheaded another Westerner, a British aid worker. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry courted Middle Eastern leaders to join a coalition in the fight against the Islamist militants. And U.S. planes aimed at ISIS flighters near Iraq's capital. As world leaders struggled Monday to come up with strategies against ISIS just days after a high-profile beheading by the Islamist militants, the U.S. military targeted an ISIS position near Baghdad. An airstrike southwest of the city appears to be the closest the U.S. airstrikes have come to the Iraqi capital since the start of the campaign against the Islamist militants, a senior U.S. military official told CNN. A statement from U.S. Central Command described the action as "the first strike taken as part of our expanded efforts beyond protecting our own people and humanitarian missions to hit (ISIS) targets as Iraqi forces go on offense, as outlined in the President's speech last Wednesday." An ISIS "fighting position" that was firing on Iraqi security forces southwest of Baghad was destroyed, the statement said. Meanwhile, more than two dozen nations, the Arab League, the European Union and United Nations met in the French capital, calling ISIS a threat to the international community and agreeing to "ensure that the culprits are brought to justice." In a statement at the conference's conclusion, the French government said the participants had agreed to take on ISIS "by any means necessary, including appropriate military assistance, in line with the needs expressed by the Iraqi authorities, in accordance with international law and without jeopardizing civilian security." French President François Hollande, who hosted the conference with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Masum, said there was "no time to lose" in international efforts against ISIS. Meanwhile, the leader of Iraq's Kurdistan region asked for intensified U.S. airstrikes, saying he would welcome foreign fighters and urging Iran and the United States to set aside their differences to fight ISIS. The air strike begins around 40:30 I can't stop the ads. This is a recording I made of CNN's coverage of the "Shock and Awe" campaign conducted at that time. I copied this off of my VHS tape. I'm merely uploading this for historical purposes. Most tapes I see of this are only about ten minutes long. This is just over two hours. It covers from 8:19 PM to around 10:30 PM (Baghdad local time). The "Shock and Awe" campaign starts at 9:00 PM or about 40:30 . This video includes post-bombing statements from Secretary of the State Donald Rumsfeld, and Air Force General, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Richard Myers among others. 1:17:22 This is only for historical purposes. It is in no way meant to glorify, or denounce these events. I'm not uploading this for monetary gain. I'm merely sharing this with others who may wish to see it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In his memoir, "Decision Points," Bush wrote about how he felt sick to his stomach when he found there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. "I felt terrible about it," Bush stated in 2010. "On the other hand, those reports did point out that Saddam Hussein was very dangerous, that he had the capacity to make weapons. I'm convinced that if he were still in power today, the world would be a lot worse off."

Iraqi troops fight ISIS outside Baghdad Turkish border,ISIS capture Kobani, hostages Syria's Kobane,Iraq war For more hottest and latest news, please subscribe Hot News 24/7 channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=thehotnews247 Turkish-Syrian border (CNN) -- Intense street fighting raged in the Syrian city of Kobani Monday as ISIS came closer to capturing a key area on the border with Turkey. ISIS fighters planted their flag on a hill on the eastern side of Kobani, then punched through defenses to open up the route for more troops, one witness inside the city told CNN. CNN crews on Monday also spotted what appeared to be the black flag of ISIS flying from a hilltop on the eastern side of the city. The flag was farther east into the city from one shown flying atop a building in video from Reuters and also seen by the CNN crews. Many Kurdish forces defending the city were wounded and killed, and many ISIS fighters were also killed as clashes spread from street to street, the witness said. The fall of the city would carry huge symbolic and strategic weight, giving ISIS sway over an uninterrupted swatch of land between the Turkish border and its self-declared capital in Raqqa, Syria, 100 kilometers (62 miles) away. The Turkish military, which has bulked up its defenses along the border in recent days as the fighting has flared, blocked people fleeing the embattled city from crossing the border. "We want to go across!" would-be refugees chanted as they pressed against a border fence. One witness inside Kobani told CNN he'd been waiting to leave the city with hundreds of others since Sunday night. "We'll get killed if we stay," he said. As ISIS fighters attacked with tanks and heavy artillery, the city's defenders vowed to keep fighting. "We are afraid of this. We are obliged to defend our home, our town," Kurdish Kobani official Idriss Nassan said. "We didn't choose this war, but we are obliged to fight." ISIS now controls 80% of Anbar province, and is getting close to the Baghdad airport. Barbara Starr reports.
A Journey Through Jewish Baghdad, 1912-1941http://www.memoriesofeden.com http://www.memoriesofeden.wordpress.com Imagine a world with no running water or electricity, scorching heat and the constant fear of cholera.Imagine a warren of alleys no wider than a cart. Cows are being milked on doorsteps, street barbers are giving shaves, pulling teeth and lancing boils. Barefoot water-sellers are bent double under their heavy goatskins. It is 1912 and we are in old Baghdad. To us it sounds like hell. Yet Violette Shamash, born into an affluent family, adored its positive side: sleeping under the stars, hearing the call of the nightingale, smelling scents of gardenias and spices, riding to school on donkey-back.For her it was a kind of Eden.Violette was a privileged witness to a time when nearly 40% of Baghdad was Jewish and Jews, Moslems and Christians embraced each other's differences. Her insights into domestic life, and a society coming to terms with the 20th century, are candid, entertaining, and often very amusing. However, in 1941, disaster struck the oldest community in the Diaspora. A brutal massacre took place over two days of rioting and sounded the death-knell for the Jews of Babylon. This slideshow contains images from Violette's book, MEMORIES OF EDEN, which not only provides a unique insight into the culture and customs of the Jews of Iraq but also shows everyday life as experienced by everyone at a time when Baghdadis lived together side by side, in mutual respect, irrespective of religion. William Shawcross has called it "an astonishing record, telling the story of a cultivated and well integrated Jewish community in the heart of Muslim Arabia during the end of the Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate. A superb account of a long forgotten time which is barely imaginable now." Further reviews and comments from academics and literary critics can be seen on our website. Over the past decade, tens of thousands of Iraqis have fled their country to resettle in Sweden. Iraqi-born Swedes are today one of the largest ethnic minority groups living in Sweden. In 2007, Swedish immigration authorities ruled there was no longer an armed conflict in Iraq and that it was therefore acceptable to send Iraqi citizens back to their country. A number of Iraqi refugees were deported amid protests, criticism from human rights groups and concern expressed by the United Nations. This film tells the story of Iraqi immigrants in Sweden, highlighting issues of integration, multiculturalism as well as an emerging right-wing backlash against immigration.

The protracted war between these neighboring Middle Eastern countries resulted in at least half a million casualties and several billion dollars’ worth of damages, but no real gains by other side. Started by Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein in September 1980, the war was marked by indiscriminate ballistic-missile attacks, extensive use of chemical weapons and attacks on third-country oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. Although Iraq was forced on the strategic defensive, Iran was unable to reconstitute effective armored formations for its air force and could not penetrate Iraq’s borders deeply enough to achieve decisive results. The end came in July 1988 with the acceptance UN Resolution 598. Advertisement History Uncut: Saddam Hussein CapturedPlay video History Uncut: Saddam Hussein Captured 2min Facebook Twitter Google During the eight years between Iraq’s formal declaration of war on September 22, 1980, and Iran’s acceptance of a cease-fire with effect on July 20, 1988, at the very least half a million and possibly twice as many troops were killed on both sides, at least half a million became permanent invalids, some 228 billion dollars were directly expended, and more than 400 billion dollars of damage (mostly to oil facilities, but also to cities) was inflicted, mostly by artillery barrages. Aside from that, the war was inconsequential: having won Iranian recognition of exclusive Iraqi sovereignty over the Shatt-el-Arab River (into which the Tigris and Euphrates combine, forming Iraq’s best outlet to the sea), in 1988 Saddam Hussein surrendered that gain when in need of Iran’s neutrality in anticipation of the 1991 Gulf War. Three things distinguish the Iran-Iraq War. First, it was inordinately protracted, lasting longer than either world war, essentially because Iran did not want to end it, while Iraq could not. Second, it was sharply asymmetrical in the means employed by each side, because though both sides exported oil and purchased military imports throughout, Iraq was further subsidized and supported by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, allowing it to acquire advanced weapons and expertise on a much larger scale than Iran. Third, it included three modes of warfare absent in all previous wars since 1945: indiscriminate ballistic-missile attacks on cities by both sides, but mostly by Iraq; the extensive use of chemical weapons (mostly by Iraq); and some 520 attacks on third-country oil tankers in the Persian Gulf-for which Iraq employed mostly manned aircraft with antishipping missiles against tankers lifting oil from Iran’s terminals, while Iran used mines, gunboats, shore-launched missiles, and helicopters against tankers lifting oil from the terminals of Iraq’s Arab backers.

Iraq's national museum has officially reopened in Baghdad, 12 years after it was closed in the aftermath of the US-led invasion. Many of the antiquities looted during the war have now been recovered and restored. The museum's opening was brought forward in response to an Islamic State (IS) video showing statues being destroyed in Mosul. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has vowed to punish those responsible. "Those barbaric, criminal terrorists are trying to destroy the heritage of mankind and Iraq's civilization," Mr Abadi said while attending the museum's opening. "We will chase them in order to make them pay for every drop of blood shed in Iraq and for the destruction of Iraq's civilization.'' The world heritage body Unesco has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss how to protect Iraq's cultural heritage. The Iraqi Deputy Tourism and Antiquities Minister, Qais Hussein Rashid, told AFP the actions of IS had spurred them into opening. "The events in Mosul led us to speed up our work and we wanted to open it today as a response to what the gangs of Daesh did," he said, using an Arabic acronym for IS. The Iraq Museum estimates that some 15,000 items were taken in the chaos that followed the toppling of Saddam Hussein. Almost one-third have been recovered. The collection covers 7,000 years of history, with Mesopotamia - as Iraq was called for much of human history - considered the cradle of civilization. Modern reality in Iraq is more violent. The areas in and around Baghdad continue to see daily violence, with at least 25 people killed in two separate attacks north of the capital on Saturday.

Ukraine War: RAW: Russian Sukhoi jets land in Baghdad to boost fight against ISIS Please like & share! RT (Russia Today) is a global news network broadcasting from Moscow and Washington studios. RT is the first news channel to break the 1 billion YouTube views benchmark. 2014–15 Russian military intervention in Ukraine In late February 2014, Russia began to send troops and military equipment into Ukraine (beginning with the appearance of "little green men") in what has been termed a stealth invasion, following the February 2014 Ukrainian revolution and Euromaidan movement, including the contentious ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. Starting with the 2014 Crimean crisis, soldiers of ambiguous affiliation began to take control of strategic positions and infrastructure within the Ukrainian territory of Crimea, which Russia then annexed.Russian journalists often used the phrase "polite men". Describing them as Russian troops in the Russian media was not done, and dangerous. London-based military experts and the US State Department said the soldiers were likely Russian special forces (possibly including Spetsnaz commandos) and airborne units. Putin initially dismissed awkward questions about the presence of Russian troops but then admitted in April that Russian troops had been active in Crimea and said this had laid the ground for the Crimean status referendum. After the annexation of Crimea, demonstrations by pro-Russian and anti-government groups, which were taking place in the Donbass area of Ukraine since early March, escalated by mid-April into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR respectively) and the Ukrainian government. As this armed insurgency spread across the Donbass, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over the conflict zone on 17 July near Torez in Donetsk Oblast. Evidence from open sources indicated that separatists in Ukraine were in control of a Russian-supplied Buk missile launcher on 17 July and transported it from Donetsk to Snizhne. In August, Russian military vehicles have openly crossed the border in several locations of Donetsk Oblast (including Mariupol), massing over 40,000 army units near the Ukrainian border. Russia denied allegations of its involvement in eastern Ukraine whilst Russian soldiers captured in Ukraine, comments made by rebel leaders such as Zakharchenko, and statements such as that of the head of the Russian Union of Committees of Soldiers' Mothers, Valentina Melnikova indicated that Russian service personnel were fighting in Ukraine. In August Russia sent dozens of white lorries, green army trucks painted white, into eastern Ukraine, without inspection by Ukraine. The trucks were “almost empty” the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg reported, and the action has been characterized as one of diversion, a distraction, so that at other points equipment and personnel came into Ukraine. hi viewers u r watching latest news Bombings kill 19 people in Iraq BAGHDAD: A series of car bombs on Saturday ripped through a crowded marketplace and a Shia militia's checkpoint, killing a total of 19 people in separate attacks north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, officials said, as the country's prime minister vowed to punish those who smashed ancient artifacts in a northern city. Police said the first attack took place on Saturday morning when a car bomb exploded near a busy market in the town of Balad Ruz. Minutes later, a second car bomb went off, targeting people who gathered to inspect the site of the first blast. Balad Ruz is 70 kilometers (45 miles) northeast of Baghdad. Police and hospital officials said 11 people were killed and 50 wounded. Later on, a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a checkpoint manned by Shia militiamen who are fighting Islamic State militants near the city of Samarra, killing eight Shia fighters and wounding 15 others. Samarra and the surrounding areas have been under constant attacks by the Islamic State group, which captured large swaths of western and northern Iraq last summer. Police said clashes erupted between Iraqi security forces and Islamic State militants following the attack in areas around Samarra, 95 kilometers (60 miles) north of Baghdad. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. Nobody immediately claimed responsibly for the attacks. Iraq sees near-daily attacks that are often claimed by the Islamic State group, which seized about a third of the country last year. Iraqi security forces backed by Shia militiamen have been struggling to retake areas lost to the group. Meanwhile in Baghdad, Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi vowed to track down and punish those who were behind the smashing of rare ancient artifacts in the northern city of Mosul. On Thursday, the Islamic State group released a video purportedly showing militants using sledgehammers to smash the statues, describing them as idols that must be removed. The act brought global condemnation. The destructions are part of a campaign by the extremists, who have destroyed a number of shrines — including Muslim holy sites — in order to eliminate what they view as heresy. They are also believed to have sold ancient artifacts on the black market to finance their bloody campaign across the region. ''Those barbaric, criminal terrorists are trying to destroy the heritage of the mankind and Iraq's civilization. We will chase them in order to make them pay for every drop of blood shed in Iraq and for the destruction of Iraq's civilization,'' said al-Abadi during a celebration held in the Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad on Saturday. He said that Islamic State militants destroyed some of the Mosul artifacts, and are smuggling others. Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, and the surrounding Nineveh province fell to the militants as Iraqi security forces melted away during the Islamic State group's summer blitz.

At least 34 people have been killed in three bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, police say. The explosions came just hours before a long-standing ove.
Officials said a series of car bombs on Saturday ripped through a crowded marketplace and a Shiite militia's checkpoint, killing a total of 19 people in separate attacks north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The country's prime minister vowed to punish those who smashed ancient artifacts in a northern city. Police said the first attack took place Saturday morning when a car bomb exploded near a busy market in the town of Balad Ruz. Minutes later, a second car bomb went off, targeting people who gathered to inspect the site of the first blast. Balad Ruz is 45 miles northeast of Baghdad. Police and hospital officials said 11 people were killed and 50 wounded. Later on, a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a checkpoint manned by Shiite militiamen who are fighting Islamic State militants near the city of Samarra, killing eight Shite fighters and wounding 15 others. http://feeds.foxnews.com/~r/foxnews/world/~3/H5bHyLzOkog/ http://www.wochit.com

Deccan Herald 2015-03-29Baghdad (Arabic: بغداد, Baġdād, IPA: [bæɣˈdæːd]) is the capital of Republic of Iraq, as well as the coterminous Baghdad Province. The population of Baghdad as of 2011 is approximately 7,216,040, making it the largest city in Iraq, the second largest city in the Arab World (after Cairo, Egypt), and the second largest city in Western Asia (after Tehran, Iran).
Located along the Tigris River, the city was founded in the 8th century and became the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Within a short time of its inception, Baghdad evolved into a significant cultural, commercial, and intellectual center for the Islamic World. This in addition to housing several key academic institutions (e.g. House of Wisdom) garnered the city a worldwide reputation as the "Center of Learning". Throughout the High Middle Ages, Baghdad was considered to be the largest city in the world with an estimated population of 1,200,000 people. The city was largely destroyed at the hands of the Mongol Empire in 1258, resulting in a decline that would linger through many centuries due to frequent plagues and multiple successive empires. With the recognition of Iraq as an independent state (formerly the British Mandate of Mesopotamia) in 1938, Baghdad gradually regained some of its former prominence as a significant center of Arabic culture.

I'm going crazy,
Gonna lose my shit if I don't check myself.
I keep my head down,
One day we'll seem alive,
Hold onto life and make this go away.
Somebody has to make me understand,
Why I'm here to stay.
Too many people've died, or lost their mind.
It happens every day.
Hold onto everything I've every known,
And I might be
Talked to my friends and
No one even know who the Hell is held.
I see my brothers broken down,
But still know what they have to do.
