Happy Birthday, Melanie! Melanie is one of the coolest chicks I know. We go all the way (Bow-Chicka bow wow!)...I mean, we go all the way back to our first days of college at IU, where she was in the awesome class group I reference in #BirthdayQuest day 29 (Pat H.) She's a great Trombone player, and she's great people as well. One of our many adventures together involves a sketchy class I took during my undergrad years. I recruited her to play a rather ridiculous solo piece I wrote- the ridiculousness being a measured response to a wide range of factors ;) The full, amazing, hilarious story will have to wait for that proverbial book I'm going to write, but let's just say that class day was an epic one! Interestingly, the piece she played for me quoted another solo piece I wrote earlier in that semester, which is where the bass line for this #BirthdayQuest theme comes from. In another beautiful example of small world/full circle/etc life happenings, Melanie was working at the Music School when I returned for my Grad work! I'd often stop by to chat and say hello. On a fateful day, in Read cafeteria, during the first semester of our Freshman year, a Funk Bass meme was born...Melanie's #BirthdayQuest theme pays homage to this!
