Pirates of the Caribbean is a dark ride at the Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Park (Paris) theme parks. This was the last attraction which Walt Disney himself participated in designing; it opened three months after his death. It is located within the New Orleans Square portion of Disneyland, its facade evoking antebellum New Orleans, topped by a 31-star United States flag (which would indicate the 1850s). An overhead sign at the boat dock names it for the famous pirate Jean Lafitte (although his name is misspelled Laffite), who fought alongside the U.S. Army at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. The second floor of the facade was originally designed to be a private Disney family apartment. Instead it later opened as an art-related retail/museum space called the Disney Gallery until late 2007 when it was replaced by the Disneyland Dream Suite. During the course of the indoor boat ride, guests float through an immersive, larger-than-life pirate adventure featuring gunshots, cannon blasts, burning buildings, and carousing and pillaging pirates, all accompanied by the rollicking theme song, "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" written by George Bruns and Xavier Atencio.

Photographs showing the abuse of inmates at Iraq's infamous Abu Ghraib prison by US prison guards have shocked the world. The latest one to be outraged is Admiral Michael Mullen, the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff. Mullen has voiced his disgust after seeing some of the withheld photographs of the abuse that the administration of Barack Obama, the US president, is seeking to keep under the wraps and not let the world to see. In a leaked memo obtained by the Fox News network, Mullen said he was "appalled" that someone in an American uniform would behave in such a way. "We haven't all absorbed or applied all the lessons of Abu Ghraib," Mullen said. But for Mahmood Khalil, an Iraqi television cameraman and former Abu Ghraib inmate, the pictures are more than just disturbing images - they are personal nightmares. Khalil told Al Jazeera that he was on his way to work when he was stopped at a US checkpoint in 2003, accused of being a terrorist, and led into the notorious prison, where he was held for more than three months. As Al Jazeera's Mosab Jasim reports, Khalil said he saw guards deliberately abusing and intimidating prisoners in full view of other inmates. "[One] detainee was tortured in front of my eyes, only three metres from my cell," Khalil said. "[He] was tortured by dogs to confess to a crime he never committed."

Nigeria's Goodluck Jonathan vows to defeat Boko Haram Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to defeat militant group Boko Haram, after a series of attacks blamed on the group in recent weeks. Earlier on Thursday, at least 10 people were injured by a suicide bomber near a church in Gombe, north-east Nigeria. On Wednesday, 11 people were killed when a bomb went off on a bus heading from Gombe to neighbouring Yobe state. Mr Jonathan said the group had caused "agony" in the country. They killed at least 2,000 civilians in 2014. "I want to assure you that the terrorists will not get away with the atrocities, they will not win," Mr Jonathan said in his new year's address. "We will bring justice to the savage terrorists known as Boko Haram. They will be defeated." Mr Jonathan, who is up for re-election in February, has made similar pledges before and has faced criticism for failing to stop the militants. For more Info :http://www.bbc.com/news/

Obama tells Iran to grasp 'historic' chance
Obama tells Iran to grasp 'historic' chance

US President Barack Obama told the people and leaders of Iran on March 19 that nuclear talks presented "the best opportunity in decades" for the two countries to transform long-frayed ties, but warned there was still work to do in the tortuous negotiations. It came after mixed messages emerged from the talks earlier in the day in Switzerland, where US Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart hailed "progress," but a European negotiator said Tehran and the six major powers were "pretty far from a deal." The countdown has begun with a March 31 deadline to agree to the outlines of an agreement that would see Iran scale back its nuclear program in return for relief from sanctions. In his annual address to mark the Persian new year festival of Nowruz, Obama -- in a video message -- spoke directly to the Iranian people and their leaders. "This year, we have the best opportunity in decades to pursue a different future between our countries," the president said. He did not give names, but Obama's Republican foes, allies Israel and Gulf countries -- as well as hawks in Tehran -- have all voiced opposition to an agreement. "The days and weeks ahead will be critical. Our negotiations have made progress, but gaps remain," he said. "And there are people, in both our countries and beyond, who oppose a diplomatic resolution. "My message to you -- the people of Iran -- is that together we have to speak up for the future we seek." Obama's video was subtitled in Farsi and included a direct appeal to Iran's large and youthful population, many of whom have known only antagonism between the United States and Iran. The 1979 Iranian revolution and subsequent capture of US embassy hostages in Tehran led to a rupture in diplomatic relations that is only now starting to be repaired, and Obama acknowledged that: "For decades, our nations have been separated by mistrust and fear." But he added: "I believe that our nations have an historic opportunity to resolve this issue peacefully -- an opportunity we should not miss." The mooted agreement, due to be finalized by July, is aimed at convincing the world after a standoff now in its 13th year that Iran won't build nuclear weapons under the guise of its civilian program. The highly complex deal would likely involve Iran reducing in scope its nuclear activities, allowing ultra-tight inspections, exporting nuclear material and limiting development of new nuclear machinery. In exchange Iran would be granted staggered relief from the mountain of painful sanctions that have strangled its oil exports and hammered its economy. Tehran, which denies wanting nuclear weapons, also wants to expand its activities in order to fuel nuclear power stations and meet its energy needs. Speaking in the Swiss city of Lausanne, where the talks are taking place, the European diplomat said he did not expect a breakthrough by Friday, the tentative scheduled end of this round of meetings, meaning that negotiators will likely have to return next week. Iran's deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi also hinted that could happen, saying Tehran was "prepared to prolong the negotiations if necessary." Negotiators missed two deadlines last July and November to clinch a deal despite numerous rounds of talks around the world. But Secretary of State Kerry cannot afford a new extension, experts say, with Obama's Republican opponents teeing up new sanctions legislation that would likely kill the entire process. The Republicans and Israel's freshly re-elected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- whose country is widely assumed to have nukes itself -- fear the agreement will not stop Iran from getting the bomb. Obama's administration has repeatedly warned that congressional action at the height of negotiations could infuriate Iran and provide it with an excuse to pull out of talks.
