In March 2008, at the Arab League summit in Damascus, Gaddafi told Arab leaders that the USA would abandon them the way it was done with Saddam Hussein, who was its past "close friend". In one way, Gaddafi's words turned out to be true. Ben Ali and Mubarak were forced to resign without a tear shed from the USA. However, as usual , the "guide" might not have realized that he may be next. http://gahgeer.blogspot.com

Sahara Morocco tours - Sahara Morocco trip Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=World1Tube The Western Sahara is a disputed territory in the Maghreb region of North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the extreme northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Its surface area amounts to 266,000 square kilometres (103,000 sq mi). It is one of the most sparsely populated territories in the world, mainly consisting of desert flatlands. The population is estimated at just over 500,000, of whom nearly 40% live in El Aaiún (also spelled Laâyoune), the largest city in Western Sahara. Occupied by Spain since the late 19th century, the Western Sahara has been on the United Nations list of non-self-governing territories since 1963 after a Moroccan demand.[4] It is the most populous territory on that list, and by far the largest in area. In 1965, the UN General Assembly adopted its first resolution on Western Sahara, asking Spain to decolonise the territory. One year later, a new resolution was passed by the General Assembly requesting that a referendum be held by Spain on self-determination. In 1975, Spain relinquished the administrative control of the territory to a joint administration by Morocco (which had formally claimed the territory since 1957) and Mauritania.[6] A war erupted between those countries and the Sahrawi national liberation movement, the Polisario Front, which proclaimed the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) with a government-in-exile in Tindouf, Algeria. Mauritania withdrew in 1979, and Morocco eventually secured effective control of most of the territory, including all the major cities and natural resources. Since a United Nations-sponsored ceasefire agreement in 1991, two thirds of the territory (including most of the Atlantic coast line)[8] has been controlled by Morocco and the remainder by the SADR, strongly backed by Algeria.[9] Internationally, countries such as the United States and Russia have taken a generally ambiguous and neutral position on each side's claims, and have pressed both parties to agree on a peaceful resolution. Both Morocco and Polisario have sought to boost their claims by accumulating formal recognition, essentially from African, Asian, and Latin American states in the developing world. The Polisario Front has won formal recognition for SADR from 53 states, and was extended membership in the African Union. Morocco has won recognition or support for its position from several African governments and from most of the Arab League. In both instances, recognitions have, over the past two decades, been extended and withdrawn according to changing international trends.[citation needed] As of 2006, no other member state of the United Nations has recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Even before Cairo was established in the tenth century, the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in nearby Giza. Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr (Arabic: مصر), the Egyptian Arabic pronunciation of the Arabic name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city, and the Arab League has been based in Cairo for most of its existence. With a population of 6.8 million[2] spread over 214 square kilometers (83 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. With an additional ten million inhabitants just outside the city, Cairo resides at the center of the largest metropolitan area in Africa and the eleventh-largest urban area in the world.[1] Cairo, like many large cities in developing countries, suffers from high levels of pollution and traffic, but its metro currently the only on the African continent also ranks among the fifteen busiest in the world,[3] with over 700 million passenger rides annually. The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, is home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. It has 136,000 items on display, with many more hundreds of thousands in its basement storerooms Khan el-Khalili is an ancient shopping area, nothing less, but some of the shops have also their own little factories or workshops. The suq (which is the Arabic name for bazaar, or market) dates back to 1382, when Emir Djaharks el-Khalili built a big caravanserai (or khan) right here. A caravanserai was a sort of hotel for traders, and usually the focal point for economic activity for any surrounding area. This caravanserai is still there, you just ask for the narrow street of Sikka Khan el-Khalili and Badestan. The part of Cairo that contains Coptic Cairo and Fostat, which contains the Coptic Museum, Babylon Fortress, Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, many other Coptic churches, the Ben Ezra Synagogue and Amr ibn al-'As Mosque. The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete TV tower in Cairo. It stands in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the Nile River, in the city centre. At 187 meters, it is 43 meters higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza, which stands some 15 km to the southwest. Over the ages, and as far back as four thousand years, Egypt stood as the land where civilizations have always met.[citation needed] The Pharaohs together with the Greeks and the Romans have left their imprints here. Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula, led by Amr ibn al-A'as, introduced Islam into Egypt. Khedive Mohammad Ali, with his Albanian family roots, put Egypt on the road to modernity. If anything, the cultural mix in this country is natural, given its heritage. Egypt can be likened to an open museum with monuments of the different historical periods on display everywhere. Jordan a Biblical land Travel - Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is a country in the Middle East. It shares control of the Dead Sea with Israel. Jordans only port is at its southern tip, at the Red Seas Gulf of Aquaba, which it shares with Israel, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Much of Jordan is covered by the Arabian Desert. However, the north-western part of Jordan is part of the Ancient Fertile Crescent. The capital city is Amman. During its history, Jordan has seen numerous civilizations, including such ancient eastern ones as the Canaanite and later other Semitic peoples such as the Edomites, and the Moabites. Other civilizations possessing political sovereignty and influence in Jordan were: Akkadian, Assyrian, Judean, Babylonian, and Persian empires. Jordan was for a time part of Pharaonic Egypt, the Hasmonean Dynasty of the Maccabees, and also spawned the native Nabatean civilization which left rich archaeological remains at Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World located in the Maan Governorate. Cultures from the west also left their mark, such as the Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Turkish empires. Since the seventh century the area has been under Muslim and Arab cultures, with the exception of a brief period when the west of the area formed part of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem and a short time under British rule. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy with representative government. The reigning monarch is the head of state, the chief executive and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The king exercises his executive authority through the prime ministers and the Council of Ministers, or cabinet. The cabinet, meanwhile, is responsible before the democratically elected House of Deputies which, along with the House of Notables (Senate), constitutes the legislative branch of the government. The judicial branch is an independent branch of the government. Jordan is a modern Arab nation, its population is 92% Sunni Muslim with a small Christian minority. Jordanian society is predominantly urbanized. Jordan is classified as an emerging market with a free market economy by the CIA World Fact Book. Jordan has more Free Trade Agreements than any other country in the Arab World. Jordan is a pro-Western regime with very close relations with the United States and the United Kingdom. It became a major non-NATO ally in 1996, and is one of only two Arab nations, the other being Egypt, that have diplomatic relations with Israel. It is a founding member of the Arab League, the WTO, the AFESD, the Arab Parliament, the AIDMO, the AMF, the IMF, the International Criminal Court, the UNHRC, the GAFTA, the ESCWA, the ENP and the United Nations. Jordan is also currently undergoing close integration with the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Jordan expects to receive advanced status with the EU by 2011. The first travel guide on Sri Lanka in Arabic Language penned by a UAE national, was launched yesterday at the Sri Lanka pavilion in the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The author of the book is Heba Al Mansoori. Al Mansoori said the book is a "labour of love" and proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to a charity. The initial print run of the book is 10,000 copies in both hard bound and soft bound copies. She said that due to the many decades of national conflict in Sri Lanka, some Arab travellers had misconceptions about Sri Lanka and her attempt was to put this to rest. The Arab League has officially given the green light for the offering of military support to the foreign-backed militants fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In a statement released at the end of a meeting of the AL ministers in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Wednesday, the ministers said they had "stressed the right of each state according to its wishes to offer all types of self defense, including military, to support ... the Free [Syrian] Army." This is while the league had previously highlighted that the Syrian opposition and militants should be backed by humanitarian and diplomatic means. He further called on the European Union (EU) to lift an arms embargo on Syria for the facilitation of the provision of weapons to the militants in Syria.

SECRETARY KERRY: Good afternoon, everybody. I’m really pleased to welcome my friend and longtime colleague in working on these issues, Nabil Elaraby, the secretary-general of the Arab League. And he comes here to Washington at obviously a particularly challenging moment in the region. The Arab League obviously is based at its headquarters in Cairo, but it is responsible for all of the Arab relationships. And Nabil has been a solid partner in trying to find ways to address violent extremism, to address ISIL, to deal with the Middle East peace process, Syria, Egypt, and its transitions. The challenge is a really great deal of transition that is taking place in the region. So I appreciate very much you being here today to be part of this important dialogue. We have a lot to talk about, and more importantly, we have a lot more to do. And so it’s with pleasure, Nabil, that I welcome you here to the State Department. MR. ELARABY: Thank you, John. Good evening. I’m pleased to be here today to attend this important conference on the question of extreme violence, and the terrorism that goes with it is really very much in the minds of the Arab states. We have adopted a resolution – the foreign ministers of the (inaudible) – which has a comprehensive approach to counter this kind of terrorism. By comprehensive approach, it’s not only military – though yes, military (inaudible), but (inaudible) ideological factors, regional factors, cultural factors to look why people from the area join these terrorist organizations. But it’s not only the Middle East or the Arab countries; it’s the whole world. As you know, this is an international phenomenon. I think the president today, President Obama, made it very clear that all the countries in the world are together in (inaudible). If you want to succeed in getting rid of these heinous organizations, we have to work cooperatively. SECRETARY KERRY: Thank you very much. And we will. Thank you very much. Thank you all. Appreciate it. http://www.state.gov/secretary/remarks/2015/02/237640.htm

Qatar has recalled its ambassador from Egypt following a row about air strikes on Islamic State targets in Libya. Foreign ministry officials said it was prompted by comments made by Egypt's delegate to the Arab League, who accused Qatar of supporting terrorism. Qatar had expressed reservations over Egypt's unilateral military action in another Arab League member state and the risk of civilian casualties. Relations between Doha and Cairo have been strained in recent years. The Qatari government backed President Mohammed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood before his overthrow by the Egyptian military in 2013. The Qatari-owned TV network, Al Jazeera, has also been a major source of tension, with the Egyptian authorities accusing it of serving as a mouthpiece for Mr Morsi's supporters and prosecuting its journalists. 'Against righteousness' The Egyptian air force bombed Islamic State bases in Libya on Monday in retaliation for the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians. After a meeting in Cairo on Wednesday, the Arab League issued a statement stressing its "complete understanding" about the air strikes and supporting Egypt's call for the lifting of the UN arms embargo on the supply of weapons to the Libyan armed forces. But Qatar's expression of reservations about the statement was criticised. "According to our reading in Egypt to this Qatari reservation, it became clear that Qatar has revealed its position that supports terrorism," the Egyptian permanent representative to the Arab League, Tareq Adel, was quoted as saying by the Egyptian state news agency, Mena. In a statement published by the official QNA news agency on Thursday, Qatari foreign ministry official Saad bin Ali al-Muhannadi denounced Mr Adel's statement, saying it was "against righteousness, wisdom and principles of joint Arab action". He said the emirate's delegate to the Arab League had merely pointed out that Egypt should have consulted its neighbours before "launching a unilateral military action in another member state, a matter which might lead to harming civilians". Mr Muhannadi said Qatar was also against the strengthening of one party in the conflict in Libya before the conclusion of UN-backed peace talks and the formation of a national unity government. The Gulf Co-operation Council also voiced support for Qatar, saying it rejected "accusations by Egypt's permanent envoy at the Arab League". Secretary General Abdul Latif al-Zayani said they were "unfounded, contradict reality, and ignore the sincere efforts by Qatar, as well as the Gulf Co-operation Council and Arab states, in combating terrorism and extremism at all levels".
The Arab League and Italy have called for urgent action to halt Libya’s slide into chaos. The UN Security Council is due to meet later tonight to discuss the power struggle within the North African state. According to Middle East analyst Morad Fathy, Arab League leaders are looking for a joint declaration to fight against terrorism. Egypt wants a UN resolution mandating an international coalition. Its air force has already bombed several Islamic State militant targets this week, the first time that it has directly intervened in the conflict. Cairo says it launched the strikes in retaliation after ISIL released a video showing the murder of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians. Italy has sent mixed signals about its readiness to join any military intervention but it has expressed concerns about possible alliances between local militias and ISIL. Italy’s watched in alarm as hundreds of thousands of migrants have arrived on its southern islands. Voa News 2015-03-16The Arab League (Arabic: الجامعة العربية al-Jāmiʻa al-ʻArabiyya), officially called the League of Arab States (Arabic: جامعة الدول العربية Jāmiʻat ad-Duwal al-ʻArabiyya), is a regional organisation of Arab states in North and Northeast Africa, and Southwest Asia (Middle East). It was formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945 with six members: Egypt, Iraq, Transjordan (renamed Jordan in 1949), Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Yemen joined as a member on 5 May 1945. The Arab League currently has 22 members (including Syria, whose participation was suspended in November 2011). The main goal of the league is to "draw closer the relations between member States and co-ordinate collaboration between them, to safeguard their independence and sovereignty, and to consider in a general way the affairs and interests of the Arab countries."
Through institutions such as the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League's Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU), the Arab League facilitates political, economic, cultural, scientific and social programs designed to promote the interests of the Arab world. It has served as a forum for the member states to coordinate their policy positions, to deliberate on matters of common concern, to settle some Arab disputes, and to limit conflicts such as the 1958 Lebanon crisis. The League has served as a platform for the drafting and conclusion of many landmark documents promoting economic integration. One example is the Joint Arab Economic Action Charter which sets out the principles for economic activities in the region.
