Lanka and Seychelles yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote investments among the two countries. The two-year deal which is automatically renewable was entered into by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and the Seychelles Investment Board. Seychelles Minister of Finance, Trade and Investment and Sri Lanka’s Investment Promotion Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena witnessed the signing. Minister Abeywardena said through the MoU there would be an exchange of information between the two investment promotion agencies to create a favourable environment for investment. It will also build relationships between investors from both countries who will identify and promote business opportunities. “Under the MoU, both countries will assist investors by arranging field trips,” the Minister said. “I am also very pleased that this MoU will lead to promoting of manpower training and create hope and opportunities for our greatest treasure, our youth. I think that this will develop cooperation in the tourism sector, which is an important industry for both our countries,” he said. The MoU will be implemented by a joint committee that will consist of an equal number of officials from both countries. The Committee will meet and build cooperation. Minister Abeywardane recalled the strong friendly ties between Sri Lanka and the Seychelles. On 1 June, President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a State visit to Seychelles. During the visit a number of key agreements were signed, including one covering investment and committing both parties to sign an MOU promoting cooperation in investment. “The visit was very fruitful and developed cooperation and also resulted in a small but significant Sri Lankan economic presence in Seychelles,” the Minister said. Sri Lankan institutions such as Mihin Airlines, Nawaloka Medical Centre and the Bank of Ceylon set up branches in the Seychelles. Source: Financial Times

Hi Guys Well, after the mishap of my outbound flight to Las Vegas aboard Edelweiss I decided to show you the excellent and very satisfying service and IFE of Edelweiss Airlines as my latest trip report! For those who have not seen the outbound flight yet I suggest you watch the other review first, so you’ll get so see what went wrong on the ZRH-LAS leg. For those who have seen it get to see how Edelweiss is if everything is working. After a quick ride and easy check-in I find myself aboard Edelweiss A330-200, an aircraft which recently has been totally refurbished with all new Business Class, Economy Max and Economy, new seats with a state-of-the-art entertainment system. Refusing to work on my outbound flight, now perfectly doing its job, the IFE convinced me with a really sensitive touchscreen and very fast working system. But have a look yourself in the review. The food aboard was of great quality, as always with Edelweiss, and the quantity was good too. Being a leisure airlines someone would not expect such great service. I totally recommend flying edelweiss, but best if you book through SWISS, because that way you get to earn miles. If you book through edelweiss, no miles credited to your account!!! (yeah I found out the hard way) Anyhow, hope you enjoy my Edelweiss Long Haul review and hope I could make you think of choosing edelweiss maybe for your next leisure trip or, if you live in paradise, why not hop on a Edelweiss Plane and check out switzerland ;) Wishing you all the best! No one seems to know how come people in Seychelles love Country & Western music and how did it all start? There are many theories and folklore about the origin of Country music in Seychelles but none can be proven. All we know is that our nation has fallen in love with Country & Western music and what is more interesting is we have stayed very traditional and we still adore the old legends as though they were still with us. Well in our minds and in our hearts they are still with us. As a consequence of our love for C & W music we have grown some home talents and in this video you can see Angelique one of our up and coming Country stars perform one of Billie Jo Spear's songs " Blanket on the Ground" and she does it very well in deed. These videos are from Seychelles First Country & Western Jamboree that we staged last year in 2010 and this year we are going to repeat the success of last year by staging Seychelles' Second Country & Western Jamboree on 23 and 24 July. It would be a beautiful experience if you could come over and enjoy the show with us. We plan to hold Line Dancing competitions during the show so come and have great time in the Seychelles. Our hospitality will knock you down and you will not want to leave Seychelles. We are a very small nation of only 86,000 people and the Seychelles is made up of 110 beautiful islands scattered within 4 degrees South of the Equator. We enjoy very good sunshine all year round but from time to time we need water to drink so we have a little rain. In fact we are short of water. We have beautiful golden beaches some cast away on small islands that you would think Robison Crusoe was still alive and he would turn up round the corner and say "Waht are you doing on my isdland?" That would freak you out heh! So come and see Angelique perform in the Seychelles and while you are here we will look after you, we will show you our Seychellois culture which is unique in the world because we have been isolated for so long but don't worry we have the best hotels, food and drinks that is the latest on the market and you can enjoy these to your heart's content. View more of Seychelles on www.seychelles.com So see you at the next Jamboree on 23 and 24 July 2011. Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day) is a Saint Lucian festival that celebrates Creole culture. It is held on the last Sunday of October across the entire island, and has been held annually since 1984. On the Sunday of this week, the various towns chosen to host this festival put out the result of their grand preparations; local dishes and foods such as roast breadfruit, Green Fig and Salt Fish (The National Dish of St.Lucia), plantain, king fish, Manicou (opossum), Souse (a soup made with pork and often cucumber), fried bake and floats, Accra (a fried dough which contains salt fish), Paime (otherwise known as Conkies) and a famous dish known as Bouillon (fish, chicken or meat stewed with dasheen, yams, plantains, banana and dumplings) Also local drinks such as Cocoa Tea, Golden Apple Juice, Guava Juice and more. Apart from the food part, the event is collaborated with kweyol music some of which have been past down to and from many generations. The most widely used instrument besides vocals are the Tambos (drums) and are beaten throughout as people speak in the creole language and have a merry time. Most people commemorate this day by wearing the island's National Wear such as the Wob Dwiete. Persons who do not want to wear the extreme layers of skirts and dresses make clothing out of special plaid material called Madras which is one of the cloths used in the national wear. Among the places which celebrate it every year are Mon Repos and Dennery Happy Jounen Kwéyòl 2013 to All Lucians This Mix was put together by DJ Socaholic (((((((DOWNLOAD THE MASTERED COPY HERE)))))) http://www.sendspace.com/file/88u1nn http://www.sendspace.com/file/88u1nn http://www.sendspace.com/file/88u1nn BBM: 7C5374F9

HE Mr. Danny Faure, Vice President, Republic of Seychelles, expressed his views on the blue economy. He emphasised the inability to achieve sustainability without the blue economy, as a sustainable ocean will lead to a sustainable planet. It is becoming increasingly clear that the challenges the world faces in respect of energy, water and food security are interlinked. Consequently, if strategies have to be developed for tackling one or the other aspect of this integrated challenge we would need to consider comprehensive and critical aspects of managing supply and demand for energy, water and food in a manner that ensures security in each of these. It is in this context, DSDS 2014 deliberated upon 'Attaining Energy, Water and Food Security for All'. For more information, visit http://dsds.teriin.org
One of the things that came to my mind when Kay D suggested she was going to sing "Home to Louisiana" was the link that I have always made between Louisiana and the Seychelles. The link is food, Creole Cuisine. Although Louisiana and Seychelles are thousands of miles apart the cooking has uncanny similarities. Gajun Cuisine and Seychelles Creole Cuisine use similar spices, fish, crabs, lobsters, prawns and even when meat is cooked it resembles each other's cuisine. I have always wondered why this is so. In a similar way I am baffled at the phenomenon by which people in Seychelles love Country & Western music when we are so far away from America or any other nation where Country muisc is very popular. And now I am baffled at the similarity of cuisine. Anyway Kay D here in this video gives this song a beautiful lust and rythm and her bubbly personality makes it a joy to watch and listen to her. The audience loved her and they keep asking me whn is Kay coming back? Of all the things I have done in my life staging Seychelles' First Country & Western Jamboree has been the most difficult task I have ever undertaken and mainly because I had very little help just Derothy, Amanda and myself, that's it and it took years off my life. But now looking at these footage and watching Kay D perform I feel happy that I made the effort. Enjoy the video and keep in touch. Seychelles is an island nation with 115 islands full of natural beauty. They are in two distinct groups including the Inner Island Group and the Outer Island Group. The 41 granitic Inner Islands cluster around the three principal islands of Praslin, La Digue and Mahe. There are also two coral islands in the Inner Island Group. They are Denis Island and Bird Island. Sailing around the Seychelles’ Inner Islands offers miles of scenic coastline with safe anchorages and over 65 beaches on Mahe alone as well as many secret coves and grottoes. The Outer Islands are 72 coral islands and form an arc towards Africa. The six distinct island groups in the Outer Islands are the Amirantes, the Alphonse Group, the Southern Coral Group, the Farquhar Group and Aldabra. They all lie between 260 and 865 miles from the east coast of Africa. As part of RGM's work for the Seychelles Tourism Board, we filmed and edited a 3 minute informative piece on the stunning sailing spots that Seychelles has to offer, with interviews by local experts. The Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys hololissa) has been thought to be extinct since the mid-19th century due to overexploitation on the granitic Seychelles islands. Similar giant tortoise species on other Indian Ocean islands such as Mauritius, Réunion, and Rodrigues Island are also extinct. This species inhabited islands of the Seychelles group, where it thrived on vegetation on the edges of marshes and streams. By 1840, it had disappeared from the wild and was assumed to be extinct. As a grazing species, it somewhat resembled the Aldabra giant tortoise with its domed shape. In 1999, some Seychelles island tortoises (12 known individuals) were suggested to have survived in captivity. The report of oddly shaped captive tortoises prompted the Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles to examine the identity of the living tortoises. Examination of museum specimens of the "extinct" Seychelles species by Dr. Justin Gerlach and Laura Canning seemed to show some living tortoises possess characteristics of the extinct species. With DNA testing, tortoises of the "extinct" species were identified and were acquired by The Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles for conservation. They were brought to Silhouette Island, where the only breeding population exists.

All Africa 2015-03-20Seychelles (i/seɪˈʃɛlz/ say-SHELZ; French: [sɛʃɛl]), officially the Republic of Seychelles (French: République des Seychelles; Creole: Repiblik Sesel), is an island country spanning an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, some 1,500 kilometres (932 mi) east of mainland Africa, northeast of the island of Madagascar.
Other nearby island countries and territories include Zanzibar to the west, Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agalega and Réunion to the south, Comoros and Mayotte to the southwest. Seychelles, with an estimated population of 86,525, has the smallest population of any African state. It also has the highest Human Development Index in Africa.
Scholars assume that Austronesian seafarers, and later Maldivian and Arab traders were the first to visit the uninhabited Seychelles. Remains of Maldivian mariner presence from the 12th century were found in Silhouette Island. The earliest recorded sighting by Europeans took place in 1502 by the Portuguese Admiral Vasco da Gama, who passed through the Amirantes and named them after himself (islands of the Admiral).
