Islam receives criticism from the left and right. I think this is justifiable as many common very accessible interpretations of the core texts and the historical practice of Islam has many issue vis'a'vis human rights. However on a regular basis, particularly following Ben Affleck's appearance on Bill Maher's show people normally associated with the liberal left, which normally opposes racism and bigotry themselves get accuses of racism by other who present themselves as liberals. How can this be reconciled? Is criticism of Islam racism — If not, why not? If so, how? I tend to think that it is not strictly speaking racism, however I do feel we need to show due consideration of how we present criticism of Islam such that it does not serve as fodder for hatemongers, does not unduly bias, or foment fear in those unfamiliar with Islam, lastly we must formulate our criticism with an eye to helping free those who are in authoritarian regimes that make use of Islam to justify oppression. Those critical of critics such as Maher and Harris such that they direct aspersions towards them, might you be failing to recognize a duty to those who live in oppressive regimes founded on narrow interpretations of Islam? Couldn’t Islam and Muslims benefit from criticism as a patient benefits from bitter medicine? via YouTube Capture because my iPhone's normal upload feature stopped working.

A video of a Korean pop band embracing teenage girls in Malaysia has attracted heavy criticism and triggered a debate over the behaviour of young Muslim women in the country. Several girls, giggling and sometimes hesitant, can be seen acting out scenes from Korean dramas with different members of the band, all of which end in friendly hugs. A band member also kisses one girl on the top of her head. Islamic authorities for Kuala Lumpur, where the meeting took place, have said they will investigate the incident for possible violations of Sharia law, and have called on the girls involved to come forward to assist in the inquiry. In Austria, controversial revisions to a century-old law on Islam have received parliamentary approval. The changes mean the employment of Islamic teachers funded by any organisation from abroad will be banned. The government says the new law will give Islam in Austria a chance to develop without foreign interference. But Muslim groups have denounced the revisions as unfair. … READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2015/02/25/austria-islam-law-revised-amid-international-criticism What are the top stories today? Sayed Ashraful Islam criticism about Dan Mozena & Nisha Desai Biswal
This video first appeard 17 August 2012 at: http://www.alhayattv.net This talk features the Pakistani-born author, Sabatina James: Islam-critic and convert from Islam to Catholicism since 2003. James' family had arranged a forced marriage with her cousin in Pakistan. When she refused, she was forcefully sent to a Madrassa, an Islamic Koran school. Her conversion to the Catholic life earned her a death-threat from her father. Today she is in Germany under police protection. This discussion of "Islamophobia" and the Istanbul process appeared on the German portal, Politically Incorrect, on 20 August 2012 (http://www.pi-news.net/2012/08/video-sabatina-james-uber-feindbild-islamkritik/). THE STRUCTURE OF THE TALK Sabatina James' talk, in its form, reveals a two-stage development in the response of the modern secular state, and most of the media, to criticism of Islam. The two stages are progressive in nature, the first leading to the second, and they have been well recognised in the emergence of totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. Stage 1: The critic, in this case the Islam critic, "is mocked, defamed, vilified and is denied every public platform." Initially criticism of Islam is called "Islamophobia", a pseudo-psychiatric disorder [inventions characteristic of totalitarian regimes]. US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has announced the arrival of this stage in remarks she made on July 15, 2011 at the 'Organization of the Islamic Conference' (now 'Organisation of Islamic Cooperation') on July 15, 2011 when she promises to revive the techniques of the totalitarian state: ". . . to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming so that people don't feel that they have the support to do what we abhor", which for her audience, was to criticise Islam (http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2011/07/168636.htm). Stage 2: The "techniques of peer pressure and shaming" never being enough to silence critics, they now expand to the criminalisation of speech. In the case of Islam criticism, Sabatina James points to the coming of the "blasphemy law" to the West: "This effort goes under the name of the "Istanbul Process" and its purpose is to make criticism of Islam punishable internationally. Therefore In future, not only will critical utterances about customs, clothing and behaviour of Muslims be punished, but also scientific criticism." This second stage is also prefigured in the pro-Islamic Barack Hussein Obama's speech on 25 September, 2012 before the UN when he said: ""the future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam." Sabatina James summarises the two stages as follows: "In future, even the pointing out of human rights violations such as the forced marriage of Muslim minors, . . . will first qualify as Islamophobia, and then it will also be punishable." Here is the full quotation in the video which is taken from UN Resolution 13/16 (15 April 2010) and which specifically mentions "Islam and Muslims in particular": "Noting with concern that defamation of religions and incitement to religious hatred in general could lead to social disharmony and violations of human rights, and alarmed at the inaction of some States in combatting this burgeoning trend and the resulting discriminatory practices against adherents of certain religions and, in this context, stressing the need to effectively combat defamation of all religions and in this context, stressing the need to effectively combat defamation of all religions and incitement to religious hatred in general and against Islam and Muslims in particular" (UN Resolution 13/16, p. 2: http://www.unhcr.org/refworld/category,LEGAL,UNHRC,,,4bd6a5cd2,0.html). Although Sabatina James does not mention it, there is also resolution 16/18 (12 April, 2011) which Hilary Clinton's department backed in December of 2011. The formal title of the resolution is the seemingly harmless: "Combating intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of, and discrimination, incitement to violence against persons based on religion or belief." This resolution was put forward by the 57 member 'Organization of Islamic Cooperation' (OIC), there being only one purpose, to silence criticism of Islam. The key word in the document is "incitement", and it is repeated 7 times. For example, "incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence" or "incitement to religious hatred." A cartoon and a movie can "incite" violence, and anyone with the means can decide what is incitement, and those reacting with violence are not responsible for their actions (Resolution 16/18: http://www.ifex.org/international/2011/11/15/un_resolution_16_18.pdf).

Independent online (SA) 2014-04-10Criticism of Islam has existed since Islam's formative stages. Early written criticism came from Christians, prior to the ninth century, many of whom viewed Islam as a radical Christian heresy. Later there appeared criticism from the Muslim world itself, and also from Jewish writers and from ecclesiastical Christians.
Objects of criticism include the morality of the life of Muhammad, the last prophet of Islam, both in his public and personal life. Issues relating to the authenticity and morality of the Quran, the Islamic holy book, are also discussed by critics. Other criticisms focus on the question of human rights in modern Islamic nations, and the treatment of women in Islamic law and practice. In wake of the recent multiculturalism trend, Islam's influence on the ability of Muslim immigrants in the West to assimilate has been criticized.
The earliest surviving written criticisms of Islam are to be found in the writings of Christians, who came under the early dominion of the Islamic Caliphate. One such Christian was John of Damascus (c. 676–749 AD), who was familiar with Islam and Arabic. The second chapter of his book, The Fount of Wisdom, titled "Concerning Heresies", presents a series of discussions between Christians and Muslims. John claimed an Arian monk (whom he did not know was Bahira) influenced Muhammad and viewed the Islamic doctrines as nothing more than a hodgepodge culled from the Bible.

Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie (Hindi: अहमद सलमान रुशदी (Devanagari), احمد سلمان رشدی (Nastaʿlīq); /sælˈmɑːn ˈrʊʃdi/; born 19 June 1947) is a British Indian novelist and essayist. His second novel, Midnight's Children (1981), won the Booker Prize in 1981. Much of his fiction is set on the Indian subcontinent. He is said to combine magical realism with historical fiction; his work is concerned with the many connections, disruptions and migrations between East and West.
His fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), was the centre of a major controversy, provoking protests from Muslims in several countries, some violent. Death threats were made against him, including a fatwā issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the Supreme Leader of Iran, on 14 February 1989.
Rushdie was appointed Commandeur dans Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of France in January 1999. In June 2007, Queen Elizabeth II dubbed him Knight Bachelor for his services to literature. In 2008, The Times ranked him thirteenth on its list of the fifty greatest British writers since 1945.
