Timonides: [when Ballomar threatens to continue burning Timonides's left hand] Let's look at this logically...
Commodus: Livius, if you listen very carefully, you can hear the gods laughing!
Livius: You're beautiful.::Lucilla: You're beautiful.
Timonides: As you see there is more than enough for ourselves. We were right Livius. There is no limit with what can be done with a human spirit, for good or evil.
Timonides: Men of Rome, men of Rome! Do not touch these people, they have become your brothers. They're Roman now. The whole Northern people will answer with fire and blood, their hatred will live for centuries. Men of Roman blood will pay for this. You will make nations to kill us all. Let us live in peace!Peace! [Timonides is killed with a javelin in the chest]
Victorinus: We're in command now Livius, the throne is yours.::Senator: Gaius Mettelus Livius, the people are asking for you.::Livius: You would not find me very suitable, because my first official act would be to have you all crucified.
Livius: [standing over body of Timonides] What happened, gentle Greek? Did you try to tell them there were three possibilities? Did you not know there was a fourth? This! [picks up and throws spear away]::Lucilla: This is the way they answer to reason and now even you must see, this is the only way to answer them.::Livius: He does not seem dead to me, I can still feel his life, hear his words. Tell me what I must do in his name. [yelling] March the army into Rome and drown the city in blood!::Lucilla: [uncovering the Christian cross Timonides wore around his neck] He was my father's friend and a wise man.::Livius: I shall go alone into Rome, if I do not return by sunset, let the army enter Rome.
Livius: A few days longer, Caesar, we'll bring you his head.::Marcus Aurelius: No Livius, please don't bring me his head. I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Closing Narrator: This was the beginning of the fall of the Roman Empire. A great civilization is not conquered from without, until it has destroyed itself from within.

The students were shot dead as they slept in their dormitory at the College of Agriculture in Yobe state. North-eastern Nigeria is under a state of emergency amid an Islamist insurgency by the Boko Haram group. Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow Nigeria's government to create an Islamic state, and has launched a number of attacks on schools. Casualty figures from the latest attack vary, but a local politician told the BBC that around 50 students had been killed. The politician said two vanloads of bodies had been taken to a hospital in Yobe's state capital, Damaturu. A witness quoted by Reuters news agency counted 40 bodies at the hospital, mostly those of young men believed to be students. College provost Molima Idi Mato, speaking to Associated Press, also said the number of dead could be as high as 50, adding that security forces were still recovering the bodies and that about 1,000 students had fled the campus. A Nigerian military source told AP that soldiers had collected 42 bodies. The gunmen also set fire to classrooms, a military spokesman in Yobe state, Lazarus Eli, told Agence France-Presse. The college is in the rural Gujba district. In May, President Goodluck Jonathan ordered an operation against Boko Haram, and a state of emergency was declared for the north-east on 14 May. Many of the Islamist militants left their bases in the north-east and violence initially fell, but revenge attacks quickly followed. In June, Boko Haram carried out two attacks on schools in the region. At least nine children were killed in a school on the outskirts of Maiduguri, while 13 students and teachers were killed in a school in Damaturu. In July in the village of Mamudo in Yobe state, Islamist militants attacked a school's dormitories with guns and explosives, killing at least 42 people, mostly students. Boko Haram regards schools as a symbol of Western culture. The group's name translates as "Western education is forbidden". Boko Haram is led by Abubakar Shekau. The Nigerian military said in August that it might have killed him in a shoot-out. However, a video released last week purportedly showed him alive. Other previous reports of his death later proved to be unfounded. Read More: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24322683
'Boko Haram' kills 48 Nigerian fishermen near Chad | BREAKING NEWS 23 NOV 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Islamist militants from Nigeria's Boko Haram have reportedly killed 48 people in an attack on fish sellers near the border with Chad. A fish traders' group said some victims had their throats slit whilst others were tied up and drowned in Lake Chad. The attack took place on Thursday, but the news took several days to come to light because Boko Haram has destroyed mobile phone masts in the area. It was the second major attack in two days by Boko Haram. In Thursday's attack, the traders were on their way to Chad to buy fish when militants blocked their path near the village of Doron Baga, some 180km (112 miles) north of Maiduguri in Borno state. Abubakar Gamandi, the head of the fish sellers' association, said the militants had used no guns. "The attackers killed their victims silently without the use of the gun to avoid attracting attention from the multi-national troops," he told AFP news agency. Troops from Nigeria, Chad and Niger have been deployed to the area and have a base at Doron Baga, but the military task force has had little impact, says the BBC's Will Ross in Lagos. On Wednesday, Boko Haram gunmen attacked the village of Azaya Kura, also in Borno state, killing at least 45 people. In this attack too, victims' hands were tied behind their backs and their throats were slit. The attack was apparently aimed at punishing the community after four insurgents were pointed out to soldiers and were shot dead. This is a movie that exhibits a lot of creativity and the artists have shown some entertaining prowess. Ikem (Michael Godson) a young businessman finds himself visited by a strange illness that paralyzes him from head to toe, after barely recovering from armed robbers attack. His parents in a confused state and desperate to have his lineage continued, gets a pregnant girl to be married to him. This act gets the story going to a very interesting and gripping direction that will definitely keep the audience at the edge of their seat. Suspected Islamists kill 90 in Nigeria village raid: witnesses For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to http://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Suspected Islamist fighters killed at least 90 people in an early morning attack on a village in remote northeast Nigeria on Sunday, witnesses said. The Boko Haram gunmen surrounded the village of Izge, near the border with Cameroon, spraying it with bullets, setting off explosions and burning down dozens of houses, they said. "As I am talking to you now, all the dead bodies of the victims are still lying in the streets," resident Abubakar Usman told Reuters by telephone. "We fled without burying them, fearing the terrorists were still lurking in the bushes." Borno state Police Commissioner Lawal Tanko confirmed the attack but said he had no details of casualties. Another witness, Lawan Madu, said hundreds of residents had fled. President Goodluck Jonathan ordered extra troops into northeast Nigeria in May to try to crush the insurgents, who want to carve a breakaway Islamic state out of largely Muslim northern Nigeria, where they have killed thousands of people. But the Islamists simply retreated into the remote, hilly Gwoza area bordering Cameroon, from where they have continued to mount deadly attacks that increasingly target civilians. Jonathan faces an election in a year's time, and the persistence of Boko Haram's 4-1/2-year-old insurgency despite an costly military operation against it remains a major headache. Last week, Boko Haram fighters in trucks painted in military colors killed 51 people in an attack on the Konduga local government area. Nigeria's most controversial show - Two Angry Men! - with James and Harry are angry at Nigeria Business - do foreigners own all the businesses in the country? "We're Nigeria, the giant of Africa - we're black and we're proud but tell me - na Nigerians dey run Nigeria or Oyinbo people?" asks James. (Nigeria Business) Two Angry Men - do foreigners own Nigeria? Since the opening up of the Nigerian economy to international investment since the return to democracy in 1999 - many of the new businesses are owned by foreign companies. Foreign companies and investors see huge potential in Nigeria's untapped market and large population - but why are so few Nigerian companies able to take advantage of the opportunities in their own country? "Park & Shop na Indians, Shoprite and Game are South African... who get MTN? South Africans! who get Airtel? Indians!" says James. "Which one we get?" "Starcomms!" says Harry. "That's the problem - we are a consuming nation," replies James. There are of course plenty of examples of successful Nigerian companies - but they are often the minority; for example - Fast Food: "Mr Biggs be like Super Eagles - the more we dey lose, anytime Nigeria dey play stadium na full!" says Harry. Mobile Telecoms, Shopping Malls, Construction, oil companies and much more are heavily invested in by foreign companies. Of Nigeria's fastest growing industries - banking is almost wholly Nigerian-owned. "Lebanese people dey collect all our Mama-Put from us!" says James "They get Mama-Put for Lagos now." "Let me ask you one question - see Lebanese mama put and oe under bridge - But which one you dey go?" "Lebanese - they get packaging!" "We have to improve our enterprise!" One of the problems is the stigma associated with the "Made-in-Nigeria" label, often derogatorily referred to as "Tokunbo" (or, second-hand) "No body is willing to invest in am" says Harry "I agree foreign enterprise don take over." "We no sabi anything at all - it dey vex me" says James. "Even Porsche - we dey consume things!" **** For more Two Angry Men!! - Check Out: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzlaogGTq02cEYcxI6SE9J8et65Vyzz_O&feature;=view_all **** CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE FOR NEW BATTABOX VIDEOS EVERYDAY: http://goo.gl/vJfFY ... Two consecutive African Berbers Kingdoms once conquered a vast area from northern Spain to deep in the African Sahara. Only to be destroyed by outside forces of the Christian Spain and Arab east. The Almoravids went from being desert nomads to empire builders. Gus Casely-Hayford describes how they managed to control not just the trans-Saharan gold trade, but the key to life itself. Underground irrigation channels, called khettara, ensured they could move the precious resource to where it was needed. The Berbers or the Amazighs ⵉⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⴻⵏ are the ethnicity indigenous to North Africa west of the Nile Valley. They are distributed from the Atlantic Ocean to the Siwa Oasis in Egypt, and from the Mediterranean Sea to the Niger River. Historically they spoke Berber languages, which together form the "Berber branch" of the Afro-Asiatic language family. Since the Muslim conquest of North Africa in the seventh century, a large portion of Berbers have spoken varieties of Maghrebi Arabic, either by choice or obligation. After the invasion of north Africa by France people were "not only forced to speak French but that access to every non-French language was forbidden as well. Especially in school, Algerians were forced to speak French instead of their previous mother tongues; this included classical Arabic, the Berber language and all of its dialects. Algerians were required to speak a single language, French".[5] Foreign languages like French and Spanish, inherited from former European colonial powers, are used by most educated Berbers in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia in some formal contexts such as higher education or business. Today, most of the Berber people live in Northern African countries such as Algeria and Morocco; a large Berber population is also found in Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Mali and Niger, as well as large migrant communities living in France, Turkey and other countries of Europe. The Berber identity is usually wider than language and ethnicity, and encompasses the entire history and geography of North Africa. Berbers are not an entirely homogeneous ethnicity and they encompass a range of phenotypes, societies and ancestries. The unifying forces for the Berber people may be their shared language, belonging to the Berber homeland, or a collective identification with the Berber heritage and history. Linguistically speaking, there are some twenty-five to thirty million Berber speakers in North Africa. The number of ethnic Berbers (including non-Berber speakers) is far greater, as it is known that a large part of the Berbers have acquired other languages, over the course of many decades or centuries, and no longer speak Berber today. Berbers call themselves some variant of the word i-Mazigh-en, possibly meaning "free people" or "free and noble men". The word has probably an ancient parallel in the Roman and Greek names for some of the Berbers, "Mazices". Some of the best known of the ancient Berbers are the Numidian king Masinissa, king Jugurtha, the Berber-Roman author Apuleius, Saint Augustine of Hippo, and the Berber-Roman general Lusius Quietus, who was instrumental in defeating the major wave of Jewish revolts of 115–117. Dihya or Kahina was a female Berber religious and military leader who led a fierce Berber resistance against the Arab-Muslim expansion in North-West Africa. Kusaila was a seventh-century leader of the Awraba tribe of the Berber people and head of the Sanhadja confederation. Famous Berbers of the Middle Ages include Yusuf ibn Tashfin, king of the Berber Almoravid empire; Tariq ibn Ziyad the general who conquered Hispania; Abbas Ibn Firnas, a prolific inventor and early pioneer in aviation; Ibn Battuta, a medieval explorer who traveled the longest known distances in antiquity; and Estevanico, an early explorer of the Americas. Well-known modern Berbers in Europe include Zinedine Zidane, a French-born international football star of Algerian Kabyle descent, Loreen the Swedish-born winner of Eurovision 2012 and Ibrahim Afellay, a Dutch-born football player of Moroccan Riffian descent. In historical times, the Berbers expanded south into the Sahara (displacing earlier populations such as the Azer and Bafour), and have in turn been mainly culturally assimilated in much of North Africa by Arabs, particularly following the incursion of the Banu Hilal in the eleventh century. However much of Berber culture is still celebrated among the cultural elite in Morocco, and Algeria, a precedent set as early as Ibn Khaldun in the 14th century. The areas of North Africa which retained the Berber language and traditions best have been, in general, Morocco, highlands of Algeria (Kabylie, Aurès et cetera) most of which in Roman and Ottoman times remained largely independent. The Ottomans did penetrate the Kabylie area; Turkish influence can be seen in food, clothes and music, and to places the Phoenicians never penetrated, far beyond the coast.

Malaria pneumonia and Diarrhea are the main killers of children globally, accounting for 40% of all deaths among children under 5 years of age. In certain countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the relative importance of these killers is higher still. In Mali and Niger for example, malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea cause 60% of child deaths. This is why UNICEF and (the Canadian International Development Agency)* are supporting Niger's Ministry of Health to deliver Integrated Community Case Management of Malaria, pneumonia, Diarrhea and acute malnutrition. This strategy, also known as iCCM, uses trained, supervised community health workers living in communities without access to medical facilities to deliver life-saving health services to the children who need them the most. A clear focus on effective strategies such as iCCM, to deliver life-saving health services in rural and remote communities has contributed to a 34% decrease in the number of child deaths in Niger annually. These films document the work of local Community Health Workers and the people who are affected by the program the most: The mothers and children. http://www.UNICEF.org Photographed and directed by Michael Crook http://www.michaelcrook.com Produced by UNICEF Music by Asou and Koudede Isalantara Edited by Michael Crook Color Grading: TBD Post Post Production Supervisor: Ted Griffis, TBD Post Color Specialist: Brandon Thomas, TBD Post
Niger seed oil is obtained from the seeds of Niger plant, which belongs to the Asteraceae family and of the Guizotia genus. Normally it has a poor shelf life and will become rancid when stored for a long period.
In 2005, Niger’s President “offered his people” the removal of user fees covering ante-natal consultations, children under five years, and caesarian sections. Increased access to health facilities resulted, and many poor people benefited from this subsidy. There was, however, insufficient preparation and inadequate funding mechanisms put in place. Most health facilities were not reimbursed by the State leading to paralysis in services when facilities were unable to buy expensive drugs or lab reagents. Care was free but drugs were often missing The film follows a Nigerien research team investigating the implementation of this policy and shows reactions by different stakeholders. WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS GRAPHIC FOOTAGE OF DEAD BODIES AND EXECUTIONS Gruesome video footage gathered by Amnesty International provide fresh evidence of war crimes, including extrajudicial executions, and other serious human rights violations being carried out in north-eastern Nigeria as the fight by the military against Boko Haram and other armed groups intensifies. The footage, obtained from numerous sources during a recent trip to Borno state, reveals graphic evidence of multiple war crimes being carried out in Nigeria. It includes horrific images of detainees having their throats slit one by one and dumped in mass graves by men who appear to be members of the Nigerian military and the “Civilian Joint Task Force” (CJTF), state-sponsored militias. It also shows the aftermath of a Boko Haram raid on a village in which the armed group killed nearly 100 people and destroyed or badly damaged scores of homes and other buildings.

Only Northern Leaders Can Stop Boko Haram Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Hon. Kingsley Kuku, has stated that military option alone cannot resolve the problem of insurgency perpetrated by the violent Islamist sect, Boko Haram, arguing that only conciliatory moves by leaders from the North-east can end the reign of terror. Kuku said insurgency had festered because northern political, religious, traditional, and opinion leaders, particularly those from the North-east geo-political zone failed to embark on the kind of moves by their compatriots in the Niger Delta region, which brought militancy in the oil-rich area to an end in 2009. The presidential aide, who spoke in Abuja at a public policy discourse on resolving the Boko Haram challenge via the adoption of lessons learnt from the resolution of the Niger Delta crisis, said the Niger Delta crisis was resolved through the sincere, committed and fearless participation of leaders from that region. Kuku regretted that so far, leaders from the northern part of the country, particularly, the North-east were yet to galvanise themselves and take up the gauntlet that would culminate in bringing the dreaded Boko Haram sect to embrace peace. Arguing that military option alone may not end the orgy of violence unleashed by the sect, Kuku challenged respected, committed and trusted leaders from the North-east and other parts of the north to rise up, reach out to the insurgents with a view to ending the blood-bath and massive destruction being visited on people and property. He recalled the roles played by President Goodluck (then vice president) and other notable leaders from the Niger Delta, who risked their lives to reach out to ex-militant leaders, which eventually resulted in the federal government’s Amnesty Programme and the concomitant peace being enjoyed in that region presently. Kuku, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) lamented that insurgency can engulf and destroy the whole country if not checked urgently.
The Nigerian military on Tuesday confirmed the take over of Baga in Borno State by members of the Boko Haram Terrorist group. After an emergency security meeting in Abuja on tuesday, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, told reporters that Niger and Chad had withdrawn their troops from Baga, a situation that apparently led to the takeover of the town that had been in contention. The meeting was held to assess the security situation in the country especially in the north-east. The Air Chief, however, said that the countries had not pulled out of the multinational Joint Task Force contingent fighting the terrorist group in the north-east. He assured Nigerians that the military would overcome the insurgents at all cost For more information log on to http://www.channelstv.com
Nigerian soldiers have scored a victory against Boko Haram as they reportedly killed 70 members of the group during a battle on Monday, December 1. Heavily armed insurgents invaded Konduga town in Borno State on Monday night but were repelled by the army. According to Muhammed Abbas, an official of the Nigeria Vigilante Group in Maiduguri, the terrorists were forced to retreat after they were subdued by the soldiers who killed many of them and wounded several others. Abbas told Premium Times that over 70 bodies, believed to be those of Boko Haram fighters, were counted after the battle. Konduga has suffered many attacks from Boko Haram and is the town where the sect's leader Abubakar Shekau was alleged to have been killed before he resurfaced dismissing the claims.

A replay of the epic battle between David and Goliath took place Tuesday morning when Boko Haram insurgents met their waterloo in the hands of civillian citizens of Rann, headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area, Borno northeast. Haven obtained prior information on an impending attack by Boko Haram prepared a big surprise package for them. According to report, they launched an unbridled offensive against the insurgents, killing over 200 of them! The terrorists reportedly numbering over 400 drove in in their usual lackadaisical manner with cars, trucks, pick-ups, bikes, even Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) when they suddenly ran into a well organized and prepared villagers armed to the teeth waiting for them. Before the insurgents could make a maneuver, the angry villagers pounced on them and unleashed a mayhem of rocks, knives, local guns, bows and arrows, even African magic on them, and before long, the frightened terrorist, haven lost total composure of themselves, scampered for safety not grasping what had hit them. http://trumpetmediagroup.com/ http://www.elombah.com/index.php/reports/22702-civilians-records-unprecedented-feat-kill-200-boko-haram-terrorists-in-borno-attack http://www.360nobs.com/2014/05/civilians-kill-200-boko-haram-terrorists-in-borno-attack-yesterday/ http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_05_15/Nigerian-civilians-kill-200-Boko-Haram-militants-0248/ https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct;=j&q;=&esrc;=s&source;=web&cd;=9&cad;=rja&uact;=8&ved;=0CFMQFjAI&url;=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vanguardngr.com%2F2014%2F05%2Finsecurity-angry-soldiers-open-fire-gocs-vehicle-maiduguri%2F&ei;=1A91U8CoLcOjqAaNkYH4DQ&usg;=AFQjCNEahRosiNTqH9eA7vhwXTev1cgK1A&sig2;=iwipwNlSRRYeIna00LmhKA https://www.google.com/search?q=Civilians+kill+200+Boko+Haram+terrorists+In+Borno&rlz;=1C1KMZB_enUS555US556&oq;=Civilians+kill+200+Boko+Haram+terrorists+In+Borno&aqs;=chrome..69i57&sourceid;=chrome&es;_sm=93&ie;=UTF-8

Why the MEDIA BLACK OUT??? "They told us that Boko Haram first of all attacked the military base just outside of Baga and overwhelmed the soldiers stationed there. They moved inside Baga town and shot civilians in their homes and in the streets and as they tried to flee into the surrounding bush," "After doing so, Boko Haram moved on to other towns in the area, where they continued to deliberately target other civilians. And based upon our interviews with witnesses, we believe the death toll could be as many as 3,000 people and this would make it the deadliest attack by Boko Haram so far." Another Islamic militant group has carried out a massacre in northern Nigeria, on a horrific scale. Boko Haram militants have sacked the town of Baga, burning it to the ground and killing thousands of people. A local government official says more than two thousand residents in Baga and surrounding villages were massacred. -------------------------------------------------------- Evangelist Anita Fuentes Website: http://www.emoaf.org/ Join the Conversation and Get Breaking News Headlines @ my Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/openyoureyespeople.emoaf Join me Live Mon, Wed, Fri 5PM PDT End-Time Broadcast: http://www.emoaf.org/Evangelist-Anita-Fuentes-Live-On-Air-Radio-TV-Broadcast.html Our End-Time Prophecy Channel - Subscribe!: https://www.youtube.com/user/PureGraceEvangelism/videos Pick up A CD and by doing so your helping the Urgent and Vital work of this end-time ministry! http://www.emoaf.org/ Will You Help Us Do Even More? The upcoming Nigerian presidential election, to be held on 14 February, could reshape the political landscape of the country should Muhammad Buhari be elected. He is the main rival of incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan, who is re-running. We spoke with Paul Adams, a consultant for the Africa Research Institute in London, on the current political situation in Nigeria and what strategies the government should adopt to defeat terror group Boko Haram, whose insurgency in northern Nigeria has led to the death and displacement of thousands. Jonathan has been accused by many of doing very little to halt Boko Haram. People who live in northern Nigeria particularly dislike the current president as they feel marginalised and ignored by the government and argue that politicians should do more to protect civilians from widespread terror attacks. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Nigerian soldiers refuse to be deployed to rebel-held areas arguing that they are not adequately equipped and are not paid on time. According to Adams, however, one of the main reasons for the current government's incapability to defeat the terrorists is the lack of discipline within the army, also accused of committing atrocities. At the beginning of January, Boko Haram slaughtered at least 2,000 people, including women and children, in Borno state. The mass-killing, described as "possibly the deadliest" the terrorists have committed, was carried out as the group raided 16 towns in Borno. Adams warned that attacks will continue and will expand to neighbouring countries - as has already happened several times in Cameroon - unless the government provides the army with better training and intelligence and intensifies the fight against corruption, a big obstacle to peace in Nigeria, Africa's biggest oil producer.

Chad's army says its forces killed more than 200 militants from Boko Haram on Tuesday in a battle in the northeastern Nigerian towns of Gambaru and Ngala, which are near the border with Cameroon. A military source said militants from Boko Haram also attacked the town of Fotokol on Wednesday but were repelled, Chad has deployed 2,500 troops as part of a regional effort to take on the militant group, which has been fighting for five years to create an Islamist emirate in northern Nigeria. Who are Nigeria's Boko Haram Islamists? Farouk Chothia This screen grab taken on 25 September 2013 from a video distributed through an intermediary to local reporters and seen by AFP, shows a man claiming to be the leader of Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau, flanked by armed men. Continue reading the main story Boko Haram Army pride wounded Girl bombers City under siege Nigeria's militant Islamist group Boko Haram - which has caused havoc in Africa's most populous country through a wave of bombings, assassinations and now abductions - is fighting to overthrow the government and create an Islamic state. Its followers are said to be influenced by the Koranic phrase which says: "Anyone who is not governed by what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors". Boko Haram promotes a version of Islam which makes it "haram", or forbidden, for Muslims to take part in any political or social activity associated with Western society. This includes voting in elections, wearing shirts and trousers or receiving a secular education. Boko Haram regards the Nigerian state as being run by non-believers, even when the country had a Muslim president. A female student stands in a burnt classroom at a school in Maiduguri, Nigeria, on 12 May 2012 Boko Haram has attacked many schools in northern Nigeria Vehicles burn after an attack in Abuja on 14 April 2014 The group launched its insurgency in 2009 Burnt vehicles and motorcycles after an attack in Abuja, Nigeria (14 April 2014) It has targeted both civilians and the military The group's official name is Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad". Recruiting ground But residents in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri, where the group had its headquarters, dubbed it Boko Haram. Loosely translated from the region's Hausa language, this means "Western education is forbidden". Boko originally meant fake but came to signify Western education, while haram means forbidden. Boko Haram Mohammed Yusuf, bare-chested and with a bandage on his arm, surrounded by soldiers Official Arabic name, Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad" Initially focused on opposing Western education - gaining the nickname Boko Haram, which means "Western education is forbidden" in the Hausa language Launched military operations in 2009 to create Islamic state Founding leader Mohammed Yusuf (pictured above) killed in 2009 same year in police custody, succeeded by Abubakar Shekau Thousands killed, mostly in north-eastern Nigeria - also attacked police and UN headquarters in capital, Abuja Some three million people affected Declared terrorist group by US in 2013 Profile: Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau Why Nigeria has not defeated Boko Haram Jihadist groups around the world Since the Sokoto caliphate, which ruled parts of what is now northern Nigeria, Niger and southern Cameroon, fell under British control in 1903, there has been resistance among some of the area's Muslims to Western education. They still refuse to send their children to government-run "Western schools", a problem compounded by the ruling elite which does not see education as a priority. Against this background, the charismatic Muslim cleric, Mohammed Yusuf, formed Boko Haram in Maiduguri in 2002. He set up a religious complex, which included a mosque and an Islamic school. Many poor Muslim families from across Nigeria, as well as neighbouring countries, enrolled their children at the school. But Boko Haram was not only interested in education. Its political goal was to create an Islamic state, and the school became a recruiting ground for jihadis. Boko Haram in 60 seconds In 2009, Boko Haram carried out a spate of attacks on police stations and other government buildings in Maiduguri. his led to shoot-outs on Maiduguri's streets. Hundreds of Boko Haram supporters were killed and thousands of residents fled the city. Nigeria's security forces eventually seized the group's headquarters, capturing its fighters and killing Mr Yusuf. His body was shown on state television and the security forces declared Boko Haram finished. Chad and Niger troops move to attack Boko Haram

BBC News 2015-03-20Niger (French pronunciation: [niʒɛʁ], but occasionally pronounced as /niːˈʒɛər/ or i/ˈnaɪdʒər/), officially the Republic of Niger, is a landlocked country in Western Africa, named after the Niger River. It borders Nigeria and Benin to the south, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west, Algeria and Libya to the north and Chad to the east. Niger covers a land area of almost 1,270,000 km2, making it the largest nation in West Africa, with over 80 percent of its land area covered by the Sahara desert. The country's predominantly Islamic population of just above 15,000,000 is mostly clustered in the far south and west of the nation. The capital city is Niamey, located in the far southwest corner of Niger.
Niger is a developing country, and consistently ranks as one of the lowest ranks of the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI), 186th of 187 countries in 2011. Much of the non-desert portions of the country are threatened by periodic drought and desertification. The economy is concentrated around subsistence and some export agriculture clustered in the more fertile south, and the export of raw materials, especially uranium ore. Niger remains handicapped by its landlocked position, desert terrain, poor education and poverty of its people, lack of infrastructure, poor health care, and environmental degradation.
Slowly the center of the universe shifts
No longer is he the birth of my shame
Now I see the end to this
Now I’m free to end all this
He don’t call me
and I surrender
He won’t see me
but I am headstrong
and I could be a little better
and I could be a little bit stronger
and I could be a little bit of everything
He was the stone on the ground I stepped upon
He meant to have me as I was for way too long
Now I see how I grew up
Now I’m here and he’s torn out
He won’t call me, and I surrender
He won’t see me
but I am headstrong
and I could be a little better
and I could be a little bit stronger
