Gold Coast, British West Africa / Colonial Film (1870s-1940s) Ghana during colonial, imperial times in its pre-independence, British colony state. The Gold Coast (now Ghana) became an official British colony in 1874. The Gold Coast's name derives from its most treasured and valuable resource, which is gold. In the beginning of time, it was known as the Empire of Ancient Ghana which was well known for the Ashanti Kingdom. The Ashanti Kingdom, however, was actually the last kingdom to be conquered by the British to be incorporated in the Gold Coast British colony.

What is Ashanti Empire? A report all about Ashanti Empire for homework/assignment The Ashanti (also spelled Asante) Empire was a West African sovereign state of the ethnic Akan people of Ashanti, Brong-Ahafo, Central region, Eastern region, Greater Accra region, and Western region, currently South Ghana. The Ashanti (or Asantefo) are of Akan origin, historically inhabiting an area known as Akanland. They used their military power, which came from effective strategy and an early adoption of European firearms, to create an empire that stretched from central Ghana to present-day Benin and Ivory Coast, bordered by the Dagomba kingdom to the north and Dahomey to the east. Due to the empire's military prowess, wealth, architecture, sophisticated hierarchy and culture, the Ashanti empire was studied and had one of the largest historiographies by European, primarily British, sources of any indigenous Sub-Saharan African political entity. Ashanti, Asante, or Asante Twi, is one of three literary dialects of the Akan language of southern Ghana, and the prestige dialect of that language. It is spoken in and around Kumasi, the capital of the former Ashanti Empire and current subnational Asante Kingdom within Ghana. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asante_dialect is an Akan language that is the principal native language of Akan lands in Ghana, spoken over much of the southern half of that country, by about 58% of the population, and among 30% of the population of Ivory Coast. Because the Akan dialects' phonologies differ slightly, Asante dialect will be used to represent Akan. Asante, like all Akan dialects, involves extensive palatalization, vowel harmony, and tone terracing. Twi has three phonemic tones, high (/H/), mid (/M/), and low (/L/). Initial syllable may only be high or low. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akan_language
Along with the Akuapem dialect, Asante is often called Twi. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asante_dialect Akan also known as Twi and Fante, is an Akan language that is the principal native language of Akan lands in Ghana, spoken over much of the southern half of that country, by about 58% of the population, and among 30% of the population of Ivory Coast. Three dialects have been developed as literary standards with distinct orthographies, Asante, Akuapem (together called Twi), and Fante, which despite being mutually intelligible were inaccessible in written form to speakers of the other standards. In 1978 the Akan Orthography Committee (AOC) established a common orthography for all of Akan, which is used as the medium of instruction in primary school by speakers of several other Akan languages such as Anyi, Sehwi, Ahanta, and the Guang languages. The language came to the Caribbean and South America, notably in Suriname spoken by the Ndyuka and in Jamaica by the Jamaican Maroons known as Coromantee, with enslaved people from the region. The descendants of escaped slaves in the interior of Suriname and the Maroons in Jamaica still use a form of this language, including Akan naming convention, in which children are named after the day of the week on which they are born, e.g. Akwasi/Kwasi (for a boy) or Akosua (girl) born on a Sunday. In Jamaica and Suriname the Anansi spider stories are well known. According to work done by P K Agbedor of CASAS, Mfantse (Fante), Twi (Asante and Akuapem), Abron (Bono),Sefwi (Sehwi), Wassa, Asen, Akwamu, and Kwahu belong to Cluster 1 of the speech forms of Ghana. Clusters are defined by the level of mutual intelligibility. Cluster 1 may better be named r-Akan, which do not explicitly have the letter “l” in their original proper use. On the other hand l-Akan, refers to the Akan cluster comprising Nzema, Baoulé, Anyin and other dialects spoken mainly in the Ivory Coast, whose use of the letter “r” in proper usage is very rare. Because the Akan dialects' phonologies differ slightly, Asante dialect will be used to represent Akan. Asante, like all Akan dialects, involves extensive palatalization, vowel harmony, and tone terracing. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akan_language The Akan languages are part of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo languages. There are about 7 million Akan speakers in eastern Ivory Coast, south-central Ghana, and central Togo. There are numerous dialects of Akan, including Twi, Fante, Bono, Wasa, Nzema, Baule and Anyi, with a high level of mutual intelligibility between them. Akan languages started to be written down, mainly in religious publications, by Danish, German and British missionaries during the 17th and 18th centuries. http://www.vladtv.com - Long Island songstress Ashanti sat down with VladTV and shared her thoughts on the decline of Murder Inc, saying their federal indictment was perhaps the biggest catalyst in the downfall of the label. She also admits that their beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit contributed to their decline, as she and Ja Rule were the major breadwinners of the label who didn't feel it made sense to "clap back" at 50 in song, which is why Jadakiss and Fat Joe eventually became involved after collaborating with Ja. Sizzla Kalonji, or simply Sizzla (born Miguel Orlando Collins, April 17, 1976, Kingston, Jamaica) is a reggae musician. He is one of the most commercially and critically successful contemporary reggae artists and is noted for his high number of releases.[1] As of 2011 he had released over 70 solo albums Sizzla was born in Kingston to devout Rastafari movement parents.[3] Like them Sizzla subscribes to the Bobo Ashanti branch of the Rastafari movement.[4] He was raised in August Town, Kingston Jamaica where he studied mechanical engineering at Dunoon High School. Career[edit] Kalonji witnessed a dancehall explosion, and with the music came the lifestyle: drugs, guns, and "slackness" (vulgarity).[5] Formally adopting the Rastafari faith, with its advocacy of repatriation to Africa and its use of cannabis, he joined the ranks of the Bobo Ashanti in the mid-1990s. Sizzla began to develop his own style whilst serving his musical apprenticeship with the Caveman Hi-Fi sound system.[6] He has used his music as a vehicle for his message, kickstarting his recording career in 1995 with a release through the Zagalou label,[5] he then teamed up with "Bobby Digital" Dixon for a series of singles.[7] Extensive touring with fellow roots and culture artist Luciano followed, earning Sizzla notability.[5] Homer Harris, the same man who named and mentored Buju Banton got him his first break, introduced Sizzla to top Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser, the musical director for Philip "Fatis" Burrell's Xterminator Family. 1996 marked an important turning point for Sizzla when he began working with Fatis.[5] This union led to a run of successful singles and the release of Sizzla's debut album, Burning Up.[5] The two allied again a year later with the follow-up, Praise Ye Jah (JetStar).[5] Praise Ye Jah was quickly trumped by his release of the Dixon-produced Black Woman & Child that same year.[7] The title track was a smash hit and became something of a cultural reggae anthem. Sizzla scored several more hits during 1997, including "Like Mountain," "Babylon Cowboy," "Kings of the Earth," and the Luciano duet "Build a Better World."[5] This hot streak kicked off an enormously productive recording binge that lasted over the next several years, with much of his output still done for Burrell.[5] Along with universal praise came Sizzla's first nomination for Best International Reggae Artist of the Year at the 1998 MOBO Awards and a place in various magazines' top 100 albums of the year.[7] Sizzla has since released several dozen albums, including 1998's Kalonji and Royal Son of Ethiopia from 1999. 1999 also saw him receive his second MOBO nomination.[7] Sizzla remains a constant presence in the reggae charts worldwide. Currently, Sizzla has 21 albums that have made it onto the Billboard's Top Reggae Albums music chart, the highest Words of Truth, reaching the peak position of #5.[8] Sizzla Kalonji has released over 45 solo albums and over fifteen combination albums, crossing different genres of Reggae.[5] He has started his own record company, Kalonji Records; which in a joint venture with Damon Dash Music Group and Koch Records, released the album, The Overstanding, in November 2006.[5] This was his third album released through Kalonji Records; as well as Black History and Life.[5] Sizzla, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Buju Banton, NYAHBINGHI ORDER, Nyahbinghi Elders, Nyabinghi, Nyabinghi Chant, Nyabinghi Drumming, Nyabinghi Roots, Rastafari Nyabinghi Livity. Travel video about destination Singapore. Singapore is a city of gardens and the heart of South East Asia. Its history began in 1819 with Thomas Stamford Raffles, a young official who worked for the British East India Company. Raffles estimated that the natural harbor was perfect for trading ships, so he bought the land from the Sultan of Johor and founded a trading settlement. As a free port, Singapore attracted trading ships from all over the world and today, 4 million people live here on an area that covers 640 square kilometres. In June each year, there is an exciting boat race in Marina Bay known as the Dragon Boat Race, that features magnificently painted dragon boats with hand-carved heads and tails accompanied by the sound of frenetic drumbeats. Dating back to colonial times, British influence is omnipresent, whether the Cricket Club or the Parliament, traditional English spirit rules despite Singapore's Independence. The World Famous Raffles Hotel is situated in the Colonial District near the Singapore River. In the hotel's Ashanti Bar, it was customary to throw expired peanut shells directly onto the floor and at the same time, reverently sip a Singapore Sling, the national drink. The Singapore Zoo is one of the finest in the world in which the animals can roam freely, their territory being surrounded by a landscaped ditch. Approximately 2,800 animals live in the spacious enclosures and even those from the world's coldest regions can be observed both below and above water, thanks to cleverly designed viewing areas. A complete mix of ethnic cultures, there's Chinatown, Little India and the Arab Street Quarter in which there are mosques, women wear burqas and there is all the hustle and bustle of a bazaar. Singapore is an exotic city of skyscrapers, a cultural melting pot and the exciting gateway to South East Asia!

Ghana Travel Video - Ghana is a very friendly country, ideal for first time travellers to Africa, the people are generally very helpful and welcoming. While their laidback attitude and lack of organized Travelist sights/trips can be a little annoying to begin with, before you have been there for very long you realize that it is one of the delights of this country. There is archaeological evidence which shows that humans have lived in what is present day Ghana from about 1500 BC. Oral tradition has it that many of Ghanas current ethnic groups such as the multi-ethnic Akan, the Ga and the Ewe arrived around the 13th Century AD. However, the Dagombas are believed to be the first settlers, having been fully established by 1210 AD, before the arrival of other ethnic groups. Modern Ghanaian territory includes what was the Empire of Ashanti, one of the most influential states in sub-Saharan Africa before colonial rule. Travelism in Ghana is growing very quickly, and more Travel operators are seeing increased requests for Ghana as a travel destination. Ghana is also rich in gold. This is a stable country with great potential for growth. Enjoy Your Ghana Travel Video!

Return of the Ashanti Empire. Coming out show (probate)
Gold Coast, British West Africa Sequel / Colonial Film 1950s Ghana during colonial, imperial times in its pre-independence, British colony state. In the 1950s, the Gold Coast came under an African rule, namely government, who shared political power with the British. This was particularly with the governor Sir Charles Noble Arden-Clarke. This African rule included none other than Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his political party the CPP (Convention People's Party).

The Gold & Silver Club Weekly Commodities Review In Alliance With ACM Gold South Africa - 21st March 2014. Presented by: This week on Wednesday, Gold Prices slipped to a three-week low, following the highly anticipated March FOMC Statement, which signalled the Federal Reserve could hike interest rates in 6-months after the current bond-buying program ends. By Thursday, Gold prices fell to a low of $1320 an ounce, during Gold biggest one-day sell-off in 3-months, which presented commodities traders with a highly lucrative sell short opportunity. Overnight Gold price were back above $1330 an ounce as bargain hunters stepped in to buy on the dip. On Wednesday, the FOMC announced they would taper monthly asset purchases by a further $10 billion to $55 billion-a-month, which the markets expected. However the FOMC shook the financial markets by announcing an upward revisions to its benchmark interest rate forecasts. The market become nervous on the prospect of rates being raised as early as March 2015 - something traders were not expecting. Based on the current pace of taper, the Fed predicates - its bond-buying program could be completely unwound by October. The USD surged following the FOMC Statement, which in turn has been a bearish for the Precious Metals. The big question now is: Will Gold price make a comeback or continue to fall next week? They came in pursuit of gold and this led to the start of the African slave trade, which the Europeans incorporated themselves in. The British fought for control over what was then known as the Guinea coast, which was the Ancient Empire of Ghana. The British successfully won control and renamed it the Gold Coast. The Ashanti kingdom was the last section to be incorporated in the British Gold Coast and brought under British rule. They were reluctant to give into British rule, and also to give away the ancient golden stool that the British were so desperately eager to acquire from them once they got to know of it. So one female warrior named Yaa Asantewaa was determined to defend the Ashanti kingdom and make sure that the golden stool would not get into the hands of the British colonial power. Nana Prempeh the first at the time had ascended the throne as the new Ashanti hene. In 1874, the Gold Coast became an official British colony. As a result of opposing colonial rule, both Yaa Asantewaa and Prempeh were sent to an island east of mainland Africa called Seychelles in exile. Yaa Asantewaa died in exile in 1921, but Nana Prempeh managed to survive and was allowed by the British to return to the Gold Coast which was in 1924, 3 years after Yaa Asantewaa's death. The slave trade in Africa made its way to North America where the African diaspora began. Slaves were working on plantations in the south and picking cotton. This led to Harriet Tubman's secret underground railroad discovery, which many slaves used as a way to escape from their slave masters. Slaves who were brought from Africa in ships were treated very horribly once they arrived in America, and even while they were on their way coming in the ships they were treated badly and living in deplorable conditions. Many were chained and shackled together. While in America over the years fighting for equal rights, it sparked the civil rights movement. This brought great civil rights leaders like Jesse Jackson, Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., among many others. Recently the first Black democratically President visited Ghana and also went to see Cape Coast castle, a place where many slaves were kept in order to be brought onto the ships which shipped them off. He chose Ghana as the first country to visit in Sub-Saharan Africa since becoming President, and of course Africa as a whole. Many saw him as acknowledging and realizing Ghana's political and economic stability over other countries in Africa. He even chose Ghana over his father's home country Kenya. It was then discovered that Ghana had become some sort of a pilgrimage for many African Americans who were and are interested in learning about the history of the slave trade.I recommend watching this video: "16th century Equality 21st Century White Supremacy" I want to redo the information I have already presented so it is more viewable. I will continue to work on it Wonders of the African world page 198, we learn the Portuguese come to the so called Gold Coast and soon this area is producing 1/10 of the worlds supply of gold. Many people may be relieved to know that during this period; most of the African slaves that the Portuguese bought were then sold to

Huffington Post 2015-03-31The Ashanti (or Asante) Empire (or Confederacy), also Asanteman (1701–1896) was a West Africa state of the Ashanti people, the Akan people of the Ashanti Region, now in Ghana. The Ashanti (or Asante) are a major ethnic group in Ghana, a powerful, militaristic and highly disciplined people of West Africa. Their military power, which came from effective strategy and an early adoption of European Firearms, created an empire that stretched from central Ghana to present day Benin and Côte d'Ivoire, bordered by the Dagomba kingdom to the north and Dahomey to the east. Due to the empire's military prowess, sophisticated hierarchy, social stratification and culture, the Ashanti empire had one of the largest historiographies of any indigenous Sub-Saharan African political entity. Today the Ashanti monarchy continues as a constitutionally protected, sub-national traditional state in the Republic of Ghana.
The ancient Ashanti may have migrated from the vicinity of the north-west Niger river at some point during the Ghana Empire. Linguists have substantiated the migration by tracing word usage and speech patterns along West Africa. Between the 10th and 12th century AD the Ashanti and other Akan peoples migrated into the forest belt of present-day Ghana and established several states. At the height of the Ghana Empire the Akan people became wealthy through the trading of gold mined from their territory.
