In 1703, Tsar Peter the Great founded St. Petersburg in the swampy delta mouth of the Neva River. It became Russia's capital city and remained so until 1918 when Lenin and his revolutionary Bolshevik government moved to Moscow. Today, it is a living monument to the lives and times of Russia's Imperial Tsars. The Winter Palace contains Russia's largest museum, The Hermitage, which houses more than 2.5 million exhibits. Since Peter the Great, Russian rulers purchased many major works of art, but it was Catherine The Great who acquired complete collections from the auction houses of Europe. The Admiralty, with its needle-shaped, gold-plated tower, is one of the city's most famous landmarks, its grand architecture depicting the emergence of Russia as a naval power. The marvelous Saint Isaac's Cathedral has the third largest dome in the world. Twenty-four thousand tree stumps were used for its foundations, and it can accommodate a congregation of 14,000. The Peter And Paul Cathedral was the burial place of the Tsars, and it contains the marble coffin of Peter the Great. The most colorful church in Russia is the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral which was built on the orders of Tsar Alexander III on land where, in 1881, his father, Alexander II, had been killed by a bomb planted by a revolutionary group. Eine Liebe in St. Petersburg Fernsehfilm Deutschland 2009 Der Berliner Anästhesistin Nora stehen aufregende Zeiten bevor: Zuerst erhält sie unerwartet das Angebot, auf einem Kongress in St. Petersburg ihren ersten wichtigen Vortrag zu halten, dann macht Lebensgefährte Eric ihr einen Heiratsantrag. Nora nimmt Erics Antrag an und fährt nach Russland, wo ihr ein frostiger Empfang bereitet wird. Der russische Kinderarzt Andrej, vom Organisationskomitee des Kongresses als ihr persönlicher Begleiter eingeteilt, ist von dieser Aufgabe alles andere als begeistert, hat er doch in seiner Kinderklinik mehr als genug zu tun. Da gerät Nora durch seine Nachlässigkeit in eine gefährliche Situation. Die junge Berliner Anästhesistin Nora Sanders (Valerie Niehaus) ist mächtig aufgeregt. Ihr Verlobter Eric (Florian Fitz) hat ihr gerade einen Heiratsantrag gemacht, außerdem soll sie ihren ersten Vortrag auf einer Fachtagung in St. Petersburg halten. Trotz sommerlicher Temperaturen bereitet die russische Metropole ihr einen frostigen Empfang. Schuld daran ist der Kinderarzt Andrej Michailov (Martin Feifel), vom Organisationskomitee des Kongresses als ihr persönlicher Begleiter eingeteilt. Andrej hat als Chirurg einer unterversorgten Kinderklinik alle Hände voll zu tun und ist nicht begeistert, für eine gut situierte Ärztin aus dem Westen den Chauffeur spielen zu müssen. Und so ergreift er gerne die Gelegenheit, Nora in ein Taxi zu setzten, als ihn ein Notruf aus der Klinik erreicht. Doch das Taxi wird überfallen und Nora ausgeraubt. Andrej plagt das schlechte Gewissen, als er von Noras Malheur erfährt. Er will seinen Fehler wiedergutmachen, zeigt sich von seiner durchaus vorhandenen charmanten Seite und hilft Nora schließlich sogar bei ihrer Suche nach dem Exsoldaten Grischa (Rolf Hoppe), der unerfüllten Jugendliebe ihre Großmutter (Nicole Heesters). Wider Erwarten kommen die beiden Streithähne einander dabei näher - sehr zum Missfallen von Andrejs Exfreundin Jelena (Julia Bremermann), die mit ihm nach Amerika auswandern möchte. Vor der beeindruckenden Kulisse St. Petersburgs inszenierte Regisseur Dennis Satin diese berührende Liebesgeschichte, die mit Valerie Niehaus und Martin Feifel glänzend besetzt ist. Die leidenschaftliche Begegnung zwischen Nora und Andrej findet ihren Spiegel in der Jahrzehnte zurückliegenden, unerfüllten Liebesgeschichte von Noras Großmutter und dem Exsoldaten Grischa, die von Nicole Hesters und Rolf Hoppe großartig verkörpert werden.
