Two years ago, I made my first DIY curb ramp: It worked well. Until now, I had that one and another one I made from concrete mix which is really heavy, greater than 35 lbs, I am tired of lifting it back and forth whenever I need to use it. So I decided to make another wooden one to make a set. In this video, you'll see entire process of my making it; some portion were sped up 10x to avoid the boredom of repetitions. Hope you enjoy it. It was fun to be doing this in the pleasant weather of 70F under the sun.

The Bridjit expandable 3-piece rubber curb ramp protects the undercarriage of vehicles from damage when driving over rolled curb driveway entries. Rubber from recycled tires makes this curb ramp resistant to weather and street sweepers, and allows parallel-parking. The 3-piece 12-foot set includes a left-side, center, and right-side section for installation on both curved and straight driveway entries. Bridjit Curb Ramps are placed in the gutter of a rolled curb driveway entry to create a gradual slope between the top of the curb and street. Bridjit Curb Ramps are designed to reduce the impact of a rolled curb entry by as much as 80% and can be used for protect the undercarriage of all types of vehicles, such as cars, trucks, golf carts, motorcycles, boat trailers and can be used to facilitate the movement of wheeled carts and hand trucks. The 2-3/8" height at the center tapers to 3/4-inch at the top and bottom of the ramp. A 2-1/2-inch wide channel on the underside of each section allows water to flow under the ramp, accommodating storm runoff and tapered ends help prevent the buildup of debris. Galvanized bolts measure 1/2 x 7-1/2-inch and are pre-inserted into the center section to connect the three sections, and are installed using only a hammer and screwdriver. Bridjit ramps are bolted together, not to the concrete. Note:Additional 4ft wide center sections can be purchased to increase coverage beyond 12 feet. Check P/N 365393

The Bridjit expandable 3-piece rubber curb ramp protects the undercarriage of vehicles from damage when driving over rolled curb driveway entries. Rubber from recycled tires makes this curb ramp resistant to weather and street sweepers, and allows parallel-parking. The 3-piece 12-foot set includes a left-side, center, and right-side section for installation on both curved and straight driveway entries. Bridjit Curb Ramps are placed in the gutter of a rolled curb driveway entry to create a gradual slope between the top of the curb and street. Bridjit Curb Ramps are designed to reduce the impact of a rolled curb entry by as much as 80% and can be used for protect the undercarriage of all types of vehicles, such as cars, trucks, golf carts, motorcycles, boat trailers and can be used to facilitate the movement of wheeled carts and hand trucks. The 2-3/8" height at the center tapers to 3/4-inch at the top and bottom of the ramp. A 2-1/2-inch wide channel on the underside of each section allows water to flow under the ramp, accommodating storm runoff and tapered ends help prevent the buildup of debris. Galvanized bolts measure 1/2 x 7-1/2-inch and are pre-inserted into the center section to connect the three sections, and are installed using only a hammer and screwdriver. Bridjit ramps are bolted together, not to the concrete. Note:Additional 4ft wide center sections can be purchased to increase coverage beyond 12 feet. Check P/N 365393

Some of the problems really take their toll on this bike route. Width in some areas is OK, but could be wider, but some are very narrow. The curb ramps should align. If it was dark I would have trouble finding the ramps and I could fall off the curb, right where motor traffic would be. The crossing of the LRT is pretty bad, I had to get off my bike and walk. A bike route should never require this. Gate arms like they are for motor traffic should be used. To do otherwise makes me a second class citizen. Incidentally I am a Canadian citizen. Don't I have the same rights as a car and the same requirements for quality of infrastructure? The experience of pedestrians and wheelchairs users is different from the experience of motorists, transit riders, and bicyclists. The pedestrian experience depends on the conditions of sidewalks, curb ramps, and other features that are frequently missing from maps. Analysis for urban planners and individualized services for pedestrians require an accurate and detailed walkway network model. OSM is an optimal foundation for walkway modeling: it has rich detail about pedestrian routes, data updates and corrections are easy, and open data facilitates citizen and advocacy group involvement. We’re building a full stack of open source tools which leverage OSM for walkability analysis. Some of the problems really take their toll on this bike route. Width in some areas is OK, but could be wider, but some are very narrow. The curb ramps should align. If it was dark I would have trouble finding the ramps and I could fall off the curb, right where motor traffic would be. The crossing of the LRT is pretty bad, I had to get off my bike and walk. A bike route should never require this. Gate arms like they are for motor traffic should be used. To do otherwise makes me a second class citizen. Incidentally I am a Canadian citizen. Don't I have the same rights as a car and the same requirements for quality of infrastructure? Maintenance really needs to be updated in some areas, it needs to be swept, some bollards need to be removed, signs need to be added. Wayfinding needs to be added to where I have to use backstreets, as should lighting. The 30 km/h limits in the neighbourhood those back streets were on though is a huge improvement. 30's purdy after all! Bike signals need to be added, bike specific signs need to be added, crossing markings need to be added. Better connection to side streets and crossing roads needs to be much better. Especially at 76 Ave where not coincidentally McKernan Belgravia station actually is. It must be safe for even a 5 year old child on their own in the darkness (which might happen during the winter time, it can get dark very early then) in order for this to be a good bike route. Why Edmonton do we refuse to fund this sort of infrastructure never treating me as if I am a pedestrian or car or augmentations of either when I truly am neither?

This is the second phase of a three-phase program, which began April 6, 2016, to improve the quality and prolong the life of the City’s streets and highways.

STREET RESURFACING: Chair of the Public Service Committee, Shannon Hardin is supporting ordinance 0926-2016, which authorizes the Director of Public Service to enter into a $11,139,101.75 contract with Strawser Paving Company for repairing and resurfacing 108 city streets and constructing 750 ADA curb ramps. This is the second phase of a three-phase program, which began April 6, 2016, to improve the quality and prolong the life of the City’s streets and highways.
HEALTHY HOMES: Councilmember Michael Stinziano is supporting ordinance 0647-2016, which enters into an annual cooperative agreement with Columbus Public Health to provide funding for the Healthy Homes Program. For the past fifteen years, the Columbus Division of Water and Columbus Public Health partnered in a national pilot program to help eliminate lead exposure in homes. The program provides risk assessment services in reported cases of excessive levels of lead in children under six years of age and provides educational and preventive lead exposure services in the community.
COAAA: Councilmember Jaiza Page, Chair of the Recreation and Parks Committee, is sponsoring ordinance 0373-2016 to transfer matching funds to pay employee salaries at the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA). COAAA plans, funds and develops services that make our communities places where individuals can live with independence and dignity. It also coordinates and arranges services for more than 8,000 individuals who participate in community based long term care programs including PASSPORT, MyCare Ohio, the Ohio Home Care Waiver and the Franklin County Senior Options Program.
