Ex-minister Papaconstantinou to face court over Lagarde list tampering
Giorgos Papaconstantinou has denied all charges and claims he is being made a scapegoat for the inaction of others
Former finance minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou is expected to face a special court on Wednesday in Athens over charges of allegedly tampering with a list containing the names of more than 2,000 Greeks with cash deposits at a Geneva branch of HSBC in an effort to remove the names of three of his relatives.
The judges of the special court, which is convening for the first time in more than two decades, were drawn by parliament and presiding is Nikolaos Passos and the prosecutor is Xeni Dimitriou-Vassilopoulou.
He has denied all charges and claims he is being made a scapegoat for the inaction of others, after he asked authorities to investigate the list and they failed to do so.
Giorgos Papaconstantinou, a PASOK politician, served as finance minister from October 2009 until June 2011 under the George Papandreou government. He was not elected into parliament at June 2012 elections.
