ALLMODERN Giveaway Winner!

July 16th, 2009

Thank you to everyone who entered to win the Oiva Toikka Little Tern Bird from AllModern.com! You all wrote such thoughtful comments, we know it will go to a great home.

In order to make it fair for everyone, we used a random number generator to pick the winner.

Of course, Murphy’s Law dictates that the random number generator would pick the one person in the list of 48 that does not live in North America. So we needed a do-over (sorry Janne).

Congratulations to #46—Kate!

We can’t wait for you to share with us a photo of the bird in your home!

Inspirations from another Swedish Cottage

July 16th, 2009

swedish-cottage-7

There is something so magical about a modern Swedish cottage, their black exteriors against the green forest, or the white snow is so beautiful. We just got back home from another 2 days of reno, and we can’t wait to share the photos with you tomorrow. While you wait, take a look at a Swedish Cabin that’s been a constant inspiration for us during our renovation:

These photographs were taken by Rachael Smith, who also shot the interior of Eero Aarino’s house.

These floors look great, I’m still curious about what they are…

I love the simple grey sheepskin throw on the pine floors.

The furniture is very simple, and for the most part potentially affordable. The sofa is very similar to the Karlstad Sofa, and that wooden shelf could be an Ekby. Throw in a sheepskin and a Bertoia chair, and you essentially have their living set.

I love that fireplace, and the white & blue runner (we still need one for our kitchen)

ALLMODERN Giveaway.

July 16th, 2009

The contest is now closed. John and I have to do the very scientific process of drawing a name (do we pick a number, names in a hat?), which will happen sometime late tonight. Suspense is good.

UpsideDive Move

July 15th, 2009

upsidemove-8

Ok, so we are a bit late in reporting on this one. We were away when UpsideDive moved out of their hidden digs to the sunny streetside of Queen Street East. Now that it’s accessible by the Queen Street East streetcar (well before the DVP bridge), we think it’s about high time you head on over and say hello.

269 Queen St, East, Toronto, ON
Hours: Wed/Thurs 10-6pm, Fri 10-7pm, Sat 10-5pm, Sun 12-5p

Well, lookie here. A Mobler chair for only $65. Where were you two months ago?

upsidemove-9

This glass and chrome coffee table is a close second to the one we bought from Upside a year ago. Too bad it’s already sold!

Check out the large selection of vintage clothing and shoes (I spied quite a few pairs of shoes – sadly it’s the luck of the draw on that one.)

Dan & Val’s Weekend finds!

July 14th, 2009

Today we got a nice email from our friends Dan and Val. It looks like they had a pretty terrific weekend, taking home two amazing design pieces for only 3 bucks! They didn’t say that we could post this, but we wanted to share these great objects and photos.

Here’s a really cool Teak Digsmed bowl.
