Peter Oborne: This Is the Critical HSBC Story Deleted from The Daily Telegraph Website

The Daily Telegraph quietly removed a news report from its website alleging HSBC has a £70 billion hole in its finances, even though the claim came from independent analysts and was widely reported on many other major financial news websites.
The article, which was published in January 2014, reports criticism of the bank’s financial model. But it has since vanished from the newspaper’s website with no reason given for its deletion. Rival sites such as Bloomberg News and CNBC have stuck by the story, which reports claims that the banking giant may require a major injection of new funds over the coming years

Peter Oborne questions Daily Telegraph's lack of HSBC leaks coverage
Peter Oborne: "The Telegraph needs to explain to its readers why it didn't report the HSBC story". The Daily Telegraph has been accused of compromising its coverage of sensitive news stories by its former chief political commentator Peter Oborne. Mr Oborne wrote a lengthy public attack on the newspaper's decision to limit coverage of certain stories, which he believed was done to placate advertisers. The Telegraph has issued a statement saying the "distinction between advertising and our award-winning editorial operation has always been fundamental to our business".
It added: "We utterly refute any allegation to the contrary. It is a matter

RIP the Daily Telegraph Blogs
RIP the Daily Telegraph Blogs
RIP the Daily Telegraph Blogs
The Daily Telegraph has (pretty much) shut down its blogs section, which for seven years has been a mainstay of right-wing British discussion on the Internet. It's all part of the paper's push to become PC, even though it had a very good circulation as it was, and will now wither commercially because it has made itself irrelevant. As one commenter put it: "Sad. I've never seen a newspaper commit suicide before."
NB. The unforgivable Dan Hodges incident is here: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danhodges/100171356/you-want-a-serious-debate-about-immigration-lets-have-one-then/

This video clip is intended to be viewed in the context of the blog post: "Truthiness: The Telegraph is guilty of lazy and biased journalism but, as ever, it’s all the fault of the BBC" http://wp.me/p3xSxU-tc
The question is, do we want an impartial BBC to report objectively on the performance of our government and to hold them accountable when they lie and attempt to deceive the public or do we want the most trusted news broadcaster in the world to be cowed and debased by threats from political parties that the licence fee funding will be withdrawn if the organisation doesn’t toe the government line? Our democracy demands that the BBC igno
